Let me start by saying that I have been going to another large zoo of an eye doctor in Pasadena for the last three years. I'm always there for 2-3 hours. I walked into Dr. Tseng's office and was getting my eye exam within 10 minutes...and that's without an appointment. The worst part of this was finding parking at Costco. Dr. Tseng was quick and thorough. He gave me good advice to take care of my dry eyes and his front desk girls are really cool too. I have to wait at doctor's offices all the time, and I'm so glad that is not the case here. I will definitely be back! read more

While working for Costco this was the only eye doc we were allowed to go to (and still get full coverage). Id been to many places, but Dr. Tseng always took care of me. Always through and asks/suggests tests before actually doing them then charging you/insurance. I owe 7 years of my eye health to this man and his colleges at the Alhambra Costco. I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Tseng at Costco Optometry. I was a walk in appointment on a busy Saturday afternoon, and still only had to wait about 10-15 minutes to see the doctor (and in that 10-15 minutes, I did all the prelim stuff with the receptionist and got my insurance cleared!) Dr. Tseng's office is very clean and Dr. Tseng is an amazing optometrist. Turns out that I have a slight astigmatism in my left eye, which he was able to fix with some awesome lenses--all of a sudden, I could see so clearly!! It also turns out that I was over prescribed before by my previous optometrist, and Dr. Tseng fixed my prescription, so I no longer get massive headaches when wearing contacts. Finally, instead of daily disposable lenses that ran me about $600 per year supply, Dr. Tseng helped me discover monthly lenses with Clear Care solution--now, my eyes feel perfectly great (before, I couldn't wear even two week lenses because of protein buildup!) and I'm only paying $78 per year supply. Love it. Love this office. Five stars for Dr. Tseng and his wonderful staff! read more

I didn't believe that the COSTCO optometrist would be so great, but she was. I don't remember who was the one who was my doctor (but the female one, obviously), not Dr. Cary Tseng, OD. Regardless, she was very nice to me. I told her that I believed work was slowly deteriorating my eyes. She helped me check out my eyes and told me that yes, my eyesight has worsened but only by a little bit. :( I used to be -7.50 for contacts. I told her that I use acuvue oasys and she said that they only have contacts in increments of .5s, and she let me try on the -8.00s. I thought it was alright, but it was a little too powerful...I didn't want my eyes to worsen. Then she gave me another pair of monthlies, I think air optics. I'm wearing them now and I love them! Plus, they come in increments of .25s, so -7.75 is just about right. She was so nice, and I was out of there in less than 30 minutes! Make sure to MAKE AN APPOINTMENT!!! :) (I was also a bit late because it was so hard finding parking so make sure you account for that, but they were nice about it too) It was about $79.00 for the contact lens exam--and I got free contact case and solution too :). The poor receptionist had to juggle phones, new customer paperwork, and preliminary eye exams (quick stuff, checking eye pressure, etc.), but she did so without a hitch. I only mention this because I saw some bad customer service reviews, and I'd imagine this is why. They are a bit busy (an illusion really, because of the small office), but everything moved along much faster than and other optometrist I've been to, and never did I feel shuffled through. Dr. Tseng is fantastic; polite, knowledgeable, and most importantly, he answers any questions you have, and some you may not have thought of. He explained all options to me, even options that other optometrists hadn't thought of. He spent quite a bit of time with me, as I was pretty picky about getting my prescription perfect. I wasn't too optimistic in going to Costco for an eye exam, but overall a great experience. read more

I always dread going to any type of doctor appointments just because a single appointment can eat up 1.5-3hrs of your time. Not to mention the general experience with doctors can be bland at best or extremely frustrating and rude at worst. This is not the case with Dr. Cary Tseng at Costco Alhambra. He is hands down the only doctor I don't mind visiting. Dr. Cary is so mellow and friendly he makes getting your eyes checked a very pleasant experience. He's the only eye-doctor I've met who isn't rude and won't start throwing attitude when you ask if he can show the lens again (ex. "Is it better One or Two?"). And the visit is always quick, the longest I've waited is probably 45mins but that's cause it was busy. The receptionist is nice as well! I hope Dr. Cary never leaves Costco. He's a gem. read more

I walked in the Industry Costco without an appointment first thing in the morning because i needed an eyeglass prescription. After years and years of wearing high index glasses, the doctor at the Industry Costco optometry department (who i believe to be Dr. Tseng since that was the name on the receipt) gave me a new prescription: something with a lower index. He paid very close attention to my needs, asked me a lot of questions and was very meticulous, more than my previous eye doctors. I did not expect this kind of service and dedication from a random costco walk-in appointment. I am very happy with my new pair. His prescription resulted in my eyeglass manufacturer giving me lower index lenses, and true to his word, I LOVE HOW IT FEELS. When i go back to my previous pair, it feels like a magnifying glass so i am really grateful that I was able to go there and get this done. $50 bucks well worth spent. (did not have insurance, just accepted walk ins!) no need for Costco membership too! read more

Two female asian sale associates working at the Alhambra Costco Optometry have the WORST customer service. They can save their bitchy power-trip attitude at home instead of bringing it to work. On one occassion, Tang was acting condescending and told me that eyes are very important and is one of our SEVEN senses. Seriously? LMAO, Not sure how she came up with two extras senses but I hope she knows nipples don't count. Epic failed on sarcasm. On another occasion, the other asian female associate was calling out numbers but not helping customers in the right order. When she called my number I approached to the counter, then she asked me to wait and started calling the previous number with no one approaching. And she gave me a snotty attitude the entire time she was helping me. If you don't feel like working, just go home! I rather bring my biz elsewhere. read more

Dr. Tseng helped both my Mom and me get the proper prescriptions and he caught an issue with my optic nerve. His prices are very reasonable (he's based in a Costco, so what else do you expect?). I've seen a half dozen other optometrists and I like and trust him the most! read more

I've gone to Dr. Tseng for a few years now for quick checkups. His office is inside the Alhambra Costco, but you don't need a membership to see him. You do, however, if you want to buy the contacts at Costco. Anyways, this place never seems very busy so you don't have to wait long on a walk-in appointment. Dr. Tseng is very friendly and knowledgeable. Very cool guy. The cost of my appointment (Contact lens exam + astigmatism) was $105, which included a small bottle of solution and a free trial pair of my new contacts. I consider this place a great alternative to going to a factory like Linden in Pasadena that makes you wait forever. Here, you can get in and out. That's what a hamburger's all about yo. read more

This place goes above and beyond for their customers. I am a grown man and have never worn contacts in my life. I didn't feel the need because almost everything is perfectly visible but wanted to have an eye exam just in case. I called over the phone. And the girl was so polite and nice. She suggested an appointment. When I came in I was greeted with a smile, and within a couple of minutes my eye exam began. I was called in to the Doctors office and was diagnosed. My left eye is really tricky. It seems almost as if it were to be 20/20, but it was slightly off. I have a stigmatism. I wore some trial contacts for a couple of weeks. I didn't feel 100% about em' so had them switched to a different prescription. This one was in fact perfect, or at least the best that is humanly possible to be perfect. In fact I ended up going back for two consultations on two separate occasions and by the end of it all I had seen all three Doctors there. Dr. Sun, Dr. Tseng, and the last Doctor I didn't get his last name, but was also so great. They are so professional. I am now 100% sure that I have the perfect prescription for my eyes. I wouldn't go anywhere else. This place really cares about making sure you leave with the perfect eye prescription. Lastly, you can order your contacts on-line or even pick them up there at their office. Really convenient either way. read more

Ive been coming here for a few years but unfortunately my experience today makes me not want to come back. Dr. Cary Tseng spoke to me in a rude, condescending tone when I was only trying to bring up concerns and questions. It was my 3rd time going back to fix my hard contact lens fit, since I was constantly seeing a glare in my vision despite the other times I came back to fix it. He literally said to me "It doesnt matter!" when I tried to explain an issue with my previous prescription. When I told him I wanted to wear contacts to prevent my astigmatism from getting worse he said again in a condescending tone "You've always had astigmatism!" I knew I always had astigmatism, but I didn't want it to get worse. He didn't seem to get that. He seemed to dissuade me from wearing hard contacts even though other optometrists that work there told me it was a step in the right direction. Overall my experience with Dr. Tseng just left me feeling like my concerns as a patient not understood and instead I was being spoken to rudely and condescendingly. read more

I called for a same day appt. and Dr. Tseng's office kindly obliged the very last minute. Pricing is very fair ($89 for eye/contact exam, sample of contacts, and trial set of saline soln w/vials). They don't accept insurance but it is still less costly than the other eye exam place that I've been to on Colorado blvd in Pasadena ( the one that starts with "L"). The staff is very friendly, and Dr. Tseng is quite knowledgeable, patient, and works with a warm smile on his face. I highly recommend anyone who doesn't want to wait too long and pay high prices. Ok, so I'm giving them 3 stars because in my experience they were all about the up-sell and about pushing the Kirkland brand contacts (despite my request for a prescription for Proclear). This was very annoying when I tried to order my contacts and realized that I couldn't get the contacts I wanted and had specifically requested a prescription for. Then I called and asked them to provide me with the correct prescription only to be told I had to come in for this (why?? this wasn't my mistake) when I pushed the person on the phone she agreed to email it to me but she seemed very annoyed and said she would do it when she could. With that said will I continue to come here for my contacts? Probably, it's pretty convenient but next time I will make sure to spell it out that I don't want Kirkland brand contacts (there was nothing wrong with them - I just prefer the brand I like because i can find them cheaper). read more

"Perfect Optometrist" I've been Dr. Tseng's patient since from 1995 until present. He's thorough, thoughtful, super-efficient, very flexible, professional, super-nice, and very kind. He's the best optometrist doctor I ever had in my life. The measurements and prescriptions of his skills are awesome to my vision. According to the nature of my auditing job, I need to read computer screens and papers a lot every single day. Although I have tri-focal glasses for near, intermediate, and far visions, all these 3 visions work perfect for me every day. Therefore, although I moved to Arcadia several years ago, I still keep going to him (Alhambra Costco) once a year for annual eye exam, which is essential for my work and my life. We love Costco, but the optometry department leaves a lot to be desired. Service is courtesy and friendly but after 6 trips to pickup my wife's glasses, we finally gave up. There were mistakes made by the folks who actually make the lens and also by the optometrist (not Dr. Tseng). She ordered new bifocals and reading glasses and everytime they arrive, there was a problem with the prescription (done by Costco) or with the lenses. themselves. If you need bifocals especially, best to stay away from this place! read more

I've been wearing glasses for 35 years. Just last March 2012, I had the opportunity to have my annual eye check up and prescription through Costco Optometry Department. DR. TSENG was very good and very professional in talking to her patient. I could say this after meeting several optometrists in my life. After my eye check up was done, I went to COSTCO eyewear section and brought my two prescriptions, one for reading and one for progressive lens. After a week, I got an automated notification call that my eye glasses are already at the store and ready for pick. I went right away, got waiting list number and waited for about 20minutes. When my number was called by one of the staff, I believe his name was Jose. He kindly attended to my concern and patiently searched for my pair of glasses from 3 big boxes containing so many eyeglasses. He found one but the other pair is not yet there. He told me to expect another call when my 2nd pair is ready for pick up. Today, April 1 at 3:28pm. I got an automated call from telephone number 16264582236 and got the notice that my pair of glasses is ready for pick. Immediately, I drove to Costco. I got my waiting number, #34 and saw that staff were serving customer #27. I waited patiently and after 35minutes, my number was called by a lady staff, (I think her name was Melinda, but Im not very sure). She asked me if I got a call and I said yes and I even read to her from my cellphone the phone number where the call originated, she acknowledged that it was their phone number. She started searching from the boxes asked me twice again if I got a call from them, I said YES! After few more searches, she told me, the phone call that I received was for the first pair of eyeglasses which I picked up from Jose. I asked her how could that be, when I even signed the bottom part of the order form when I picked it up and had noted that I received it already. I asked her if there's a way to improve their phone notification system as it is not cheap and easy to drive from my place to COSTCO and spend that much time only to be told that the phone messaging system was wrong. One of the male staff who was actually attending to another customer, his name was Mike, look at me and said: "You need to understand humanity." I was a little surprised by his unprofessional behavior, he was attending to another customer not to me and to think that I was there for more than 45minutes already, patiently following their system on how to pick up a prescription, I think that behavior is very uncalled-for. I talked to the lady staff attending to me and asked her again, is there a way that you can improve your automated phone system. FRUSTRATING BUT THIS IS WHAT SHE SAID: "THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO." I have been a patient of Dr. Cary Tseng for over 15 yrs. but because of the bad and rude treatment of his staff I have moved on to go to Walmart Vision that has the exact same prices and NO ATTITUDE. It is a shame because Dr. Cary is a sweet and nice Man but I am done. Tanya is rude and lazy. First she tells me No walk-ins...then she informs me no appointments for 2 weeks while there is an empty reception area and there is a female doctor just sitting there. This is unacceptable. read more
