Waiters and waitresses are extremely attentive, food comes out fast and hot. Decor is very fiesta and relaxing. Great for big groups or just a quick night out for good food. Free chips and salsa with hot carrots adding that extra special! Fish tacos were crispy with a nice starter sauce. Rice and beans home made fresh. Guacamole is abundance and not shy of the serving size. Mole enchiladas were packed with flavor and mild spice to the mole. Neighborhood Mexican Restaurant located in a small shopping strip mall. Lots of parking. Ambiance was very typical decorated with the Mexican Theme. We were 10 in our group and got there around 3pm on a Saturday. We were seated immediately since it was not a busy hour. We ordered lots of different dishes from Guacamole, Queso Fundido, Veggie Fajitas, Chicken Fajitas, and more. Plus Margaritas, Palomas and other Alcoholic Beverages Service was super fast for us being a large group. We came to Tierrasanta restaurant because we were in the area and wanted a good Mexican dinner. Based on the great Yelp reviews we stopped in and it did not disappoint! This is an unassuming Mexican restaurant in a strip mall in the small neighborhood of Tierrasanta. I have been in the area many times and never looked twice at this place to be honest. When we walked in, we were immediately greeted by the friendly staff who quickly sat us in a comfortable booth (my favorite). They offer a large menu with all of the traditional Mexican dishes you expect and hope to see. I judge a restaurant by their chips and salsa and the chips were crispy and salted, and the salsa had a perfect amount of spice. And the Cadillac marg was blended to perfection. I was immediately pleased. We ordered the Queso Fundido appetizer- as we do whenever we see it offered- and it was sooo good! A large portion of melted cheese topped with chorizo and served with fresh tortillas. (We found out they get them fresh from a local tortilleria.) I ordered the flautas and my husband had the Carnitas. Both were very flavorful and delicious and portions so big we took half of our dinner to go. We ordered flan for dessert and for me it was just ok- did not taste homemade and was more dense like cheesecake. I probably wouldn't order again. But not a deal breaker by any means, and my husband loved it. We were served by multiple staff members throughout our dinner and everyone was very friendly and kind. What a gem of a find! My girlfriend lives in Tierrasanta and suggested meeting for happy hour early dinner. Service was incredible and the food tasty with nice big portions. Love those leftovers! The Mexican restaurant scene in San Diego is basically open warfare. Talk about competition ! Plus, there's always Mexico a short drive away. In terms of what works north of the border, Tierrasanta Mexican simply does the job. Despite the generic name, the food and service are superlative. A friendly server greeted me, and provided chips, salsa and my drink order right away. Almost immediate service, and importantly, excellent chips and salsa. Alongside the basket of chips was a dish of spicy carrots and cooked onion, a rarity anymore in San Diego Restaurants. Deelish. My first ever order here was Carne Asada Quesadillas ($15.95) with refried beans, frijoles, and guacamole on the side for an additional $3.50. Called "COMBO", it is a very worthwhile upgrade. The quesadillas were expertly grilled, and very tasty, not to mention in a huge portion. I couldn't finish them, and brought them home for future consumption. Dividing the separate dining rooms, there is a very charming L-shaped bar, at which I envision myself hoisting a margarita or two in the near future. Excellent service, excellent food, this place has become my new Go-To Mexican restaurant. read more

This is a pleasant looking Mexican restaurant off the beaten path. In a strip mall near the 52, we stopped in for dinner. The menu has many, many choices for both drink and food. I opted to have a white sangria that came with strawberries in the glass. It was very good and refreshing. The margaritas came in 2 different sizes and were enjoyed by those who ordered them. I ordered the shrimp fajitas. It came with a very small amount of guacamole and didn't have any sour cream or salsa. The shrimp were big and many. The tortilla was way too small for having any more than one shrimp at a time. The peppers could have been cooked a bit more and there could have been more sautéed onions. It was good, but not outstanding. My husband had the Camarones tierrasante. The shrimp were big and the bacon was crisp. This was a great combination. It was really good. The service was very good. The server came quickly and took both the drink order and food order without writing anything down. The amazing thing was that he got the order right! It's been several years since I've been here and had forgotten about it. Met up with a couple of friends for margaritas and conversation on a random Tuesday evening. We had our pick of seats and chose a back booth in the main section. We were immediately brought waters and menus. The host told us our server would be right with us as another gentleman immediately brought us chips and salsa. The chips were fresh and the salsa had just the right amount of spice and freshness. Two of us ordered two large El Jefe margaritas and the other ordered a Paloma margarita. We also ordered the appetizer guacamole and the chicken quesadilla. Came here while visiting the folks in Clairemont. We always remark how there is a lack of "sit down Mexican restaurants" in the area. Sure, there are a lot of taco shops in the area, but sometimes those don't fit the bill. So we found (actually rediscovered but it's been a while) this restaurant in one of the local coupon books. We had a good deal for one free entree with the purchase of another entree and two drinks. I had the two taco combo with rice and beans and I enjoyed it. I chose one shredded beef taco and one ground beef taco. Both were good, but I enjoyed the shredded beef taco more, and will probably order two of them next time. The rice and beans were good. The folks ordered a two cheese enchilada combo and a taco/tamale combo. They both liked their dishes. Service was great - attentive, informative, and fast.
