Honestly, I was never a Cotija's fan. There had been a location where I lived a decade ago and the guacamole was always watered down and I didn't enjoy it. I figured they were all the same. Well, someone posted a picture on Yelp, of course, of the daily specials. I was surprised as some of the deals. I decided why not give it a try since this location is near my home and my son's school. It's an easy weeknight dinner. I've visited a few times now and can say, I'm a fan. The quality is much better than the old location I had visited. The daily special is a full size portion, not a mini size they have just for that day, like another nearby taco shop. The employees are always friendly and welcoming. I love their bean burrito and their rolled tacos are fantastic. They have a great salsa bar with a good amount of salsa options and offer peppers and onions as well. I really couldn't ask for more and am happy I saw the picture of the deals as I now have a tasty taco shop nearby and I can easily visit. read more

This should technically be 3.5 stars. Initial service is great and friendly. 4ish people ordered after me and all of them got they order after me. She said there was a big order but doesnt that mean I should get my 5 rolled tacos first? Food was fresh. It came out and no lettuce was on it. Was caught, but still kinda like "what the heck". They changed their carne asada meat probably 4 months or so and ever since it's completely changed their food. Their carne asada used to be one of the best and now it's chewy and a completely different experience. Too bad, surprisingly they had amazing carne asada before. I do have to say that living in Rancho Bernardo this is the best Mexican food that I've ever had and it reminds me of eating my grandmother's food. We really love the Chile Riano's and the taquitos and my kids enjoy their burritos. Also my son very much likes their Horchata. Their service is quick and efficient and we have never had a problem with our food. I do recommend the green sauce over the red sauce, but that's just a personal preference. The ambience is very casual and you can get everything to go or you can sit in at the restaurant. read more

I strayed from Colima's since this place had a good offer on Uber Eats. Big mistake. The shrimp on two burritos was lacking in number and small but worst of all.was rubbery and hard to chew. This is my favorite cotijas ever!! They are always consistent with how amazing their food is. I ordered the carne asada fries with extra pico on top, and oh boy they certainly delivered. The meat was seasoned well, the fries were crispy, and the ratio of fries to meat was perfect. They also have a self serve salsa bar inside with those delicious carrots. I love carrots so much. The place is also always super clean whenever I go inside, and they are fast with making the food too. I rly do be hungry and they never keep me waiting long. 10/10 would recommend. read more

Really fantastic Taco Tuesday options here - adobada for the win! Their salsa bar is always well-stocked and clean. I appreciate that they have complimentary pickled red onions with jalapenos, some of my fave toppers! Service is friendly, and the food is quick, fresh, and inexpensive. I haven't written a review in years but had to give my thumbs up for Cotijas in Tierrasanta. My husband and I went there a couple weeks ago and the food and service were excellent. The salsa bar was full and clean. No spills anywhere. Staff very attentive to cleanliness throughout the shop. I ordered #6 Chicken Tamala's w/Cheese Enchilada and my husband ordered #5 Combo-Beef Chimichanga. We were very pleased with the time it took from ordering to food served to us. Okay traditional breakfast burrito. The salsas were fresh and there was good variety (habanero beat). The tortilla was fresh and the flavor was fine, but the burrito just wasn't anything special. On a trip to AutoZone one afternoon I noticed this taco shop in the strip mall and decided to check it out. It has become one of my preferred Mexican food close to work for me! They have daily specials that are discounted and well worth the price. Quality has been really consistent which can be hard to find at many taco shops. Or, some things are great and other items not so much is a common theme. Here, every single thing I have ordered has been above average and you can't beat the killer self-serve salsa bar. When you dine in, you are also offered chips and salsa! This is pretty much impossible to find anywhere besides a sit-down restaurant with menus and waitresses. Only one time I had a slight disappointment. I had ordered the cheese enchiladas plate and the cheese inside was barely melted and lukewarm. This actually has happened to me at other places before. You have to microwave them for just a few seconds or, place in the oven for 5 minutes. So I understand why. I mentioned it to them but did not send it back. They apologized for this. No harm, no foul. Didn't stop me from coming back. There are so many choices around Kearny Mesa for Mexican food and across our county, and I'll continue to try new spots- but this is among the best for sure close to work. read more

In our past catering order experience with Cotijas, the food was delivered on time, the servings were plentiful and everything was delicious! Beyond the usual food (carne asada, al pastor, pollo asado, rice, beans, salsas, chips, guac), it even included a tray of hot carrots, roasted peppers, roasted garlic and other goodness. Ah, Cotijas... Who does not know what Cotijas is. If you have not heard of this taco shop, you been living under a ROCK my friend, given me SpongeBob Patrick vibes. I've only gone my entire life to the LG OG location where they have that sour cream American guac (not sure they have that at this one), nothing will beat the LG one. HOWEVER, if you're in this part of San Diego...look no further my friends. Having a Cotijas in Tierresanta is like thee biggest blessing on the block. Service is the best. They are so quick with any order. Always so hearty, filling and plenty of food. Pricing is average (not cheap but not pricey) We are guilty of ordering here at least once a week...cringe, not something I am proud of but HEY we love it so much and its so conveniently located. We have tried pretty much everything on the menu at this point but we have our guilty go-to's. POPULAR FAVORITES: SURF AND TURF BURRITO (SIZE IS EXTREME, literally my entire forearm...if only you could see, go try it) VEGGIE FRENCH FRIES KID MEALS (They get down with the portion sizes here sheesh, these meals are for the KIDS...this feeds an adult.
