At Casa Mata for the first time today with my friend AJ. Francisco provides Great Service as well as Marta. Yes the Turkey came right up to our window and greeted us. Every time I go to a New Mexican restaurant if they have it on the Menu I try their Menudo. The Menudo here is very good and a very generous serving. It is different than any I have ever had. Because of it I will be back to sample more of their menu. When you walk in the vibe is very South of the Border. The service is good they are very attentive but don't hang at your table. My favorite thing to order when visiting a Mexican restaurant is the Seafood Soup. This chef obviously has never made this before! I can't even describe it! Just take my word! DO NOT ORDER THIS! Absolutely horrible! The broth was like water, the fish.....I have no idea what kind of fish it was! It was chewy and a purplish color! No vegetables as written in the menu. I know I should have said something but the waiter was so sweet. My thought is just to never go back to this place again! Maybe this was some new chef but I certainly wouldn't take the risk again. We were greeted immediately when we came in, directing us to a brightly lit booth by a window. They brought us chips, salsa, bean dip. I am usually not a fan of bean dip, but theirs was pretty good. Unfortunately, that was about it. I ordered the special enchiladas that said chicken, but he asked. The enchiladas were full of meat but the sauce did not have any heat to it unfortunately. Tried a random new restaurant today and are so glad we did! Loved the beef tacos, cheese enchilada, beef tostada, pork tamal, rellano, chips salsa beens and sopapillas. Enough of a meal we have leftovers for dinner- great portions. Quick service and appreciative friendly people added to our positive experience. Just not sure what all the hype is about this place the food was very basic and this is just a typical oval plate beans and rice Mexican restaurant the food taste just like any other place around the area. The service was great but for what you pay it's just not worth it. I most likely won't be back The Chile rellenos were just OK. However, the cheese wasn't even melted inside. The steak fajitas were swimming in oil, and the pieces of steak were pretty grizzly and fatty. This is a food based review! Service is good because I am like 3rd table. WHERE'S THE SALT!?? Like where's the beef haha Chips and salsa with a side of beans to open. Salsa is ok but lacking salt, as well as the beans with what I assume is their green chili and some shredded cheese on top that's not melted. Also needed salt or lard or some sort of flavor! Got the ultimate margarita it's the only thing that's good here but so small! Lol. Main dish #23. The menu said tamale and rellano were homemade by grandma? Or someone haha. Let's just say they should just stop cooking because uh this was bad. The tamale too much masa no flavor and just sad. The rellano was Luke warm at best cheese already coagulated and not please try to eat. The green chili was no different than water, The enchilada tasted like it was not even cooked, The beef inside did not even taste like beef and I did not see any enchilada sauce at all. Rice was meh as well as the beans as well. Of this was a retirement community then this place would be the jam! No spice, no flavor, and no salt! I wish the best for this place but they need to definitely taste their product and do a rebrand because this was just terrible food. Few bites of each thing and I was done. Such a disappointment We were looking forward to this restaurant as the reviews were good. Well, it isn't good. The food was cold, terribly salty and just generally not good tasting. My relleno was so cold the cheese wasn't even melted and the wrap was like a pancake. My burrito was chicken and chicken and THAT is it. AND it was cold as well. My husband had the meat trio and the meat was so tough you could hardly eat it. Sauce was salty and overpowering. So sad as we have been looking for a good place for Mexican food. Excellent dinner at Casa Mata! Quickly seated in the pleasant and clean dining room at a comfortable booth. Greeted with a basket of warm tortilla chips, salsa and bean dip. All tasted great - chips were light and crispy, salsa had just the right amount of spice, and the bean dip was a very nice touch. Our server was extremely friendly and took our order. The Presidente margarita came out quickly and was delicious. Our food followed and we enjoyed it very much! The tamales and chile relleno were absolutely excellent - they tasted homemade. We also tried a ground beef enchilada, as well as a chicken enchilada and both were very tasty. Rice and beans were also full of flavor. Met up with some friends to try out Casa Mata after hearing excellent reviews. I'm guessing we caught them on a bad night because it was not a good experience for food or service. Service was extremely slow and we waited more than 15 minutes for drinks. We all tried a different margarita and only one of 5 liked theirs. I had the jalapeño margarita and wasn't impressed. I ordered the veggie fajitas and received the veggie enchiladas. When I said it wasn't what I ordered she still set it down and told me I would like it because it was delicious. No apology, no I can switch it out. Just told me I'd like it and went away. Never followed up to see if I liked it - which I didn't. So I paid full cost for a meal I didn't like and didn't order.
