Tucked away in the oft-forgotten town of Leeds, UT is this authentic Mexican GEM. You won't travel too far off of the highway to find the intimate dinning room whose facade resembles a western saloon. I call it intimate not because it is small, but because the kitchen is visible from every table. Offering a connection to your meal and cooks. They'll know how you feel about the food because they can see you from the grill. But they aren't worried because they know they've created something special for you. If this worries you then just walk 20 feet outside to invite the gorgeous Utah landscape to your dinner party. There are not many better views to be had for a meal. The food is exceptional. This is an absolute gem of a spot! We were in Utah for about a week and capped the trip off with a meal here of about 15 people. The staff were extremely accomodating, helping us get set up outside with the dogs. The food was probably the best meal we had the whole trip. Definitely try the margs (cadillac was incredible I had to ask for the recipe) and all of the entrees were thoroughly enjoyed. Some of the best mex in Utah! read more

I actually hesitate to tell community Y about this gem because I want to keep it all to myself. This is the best flipping authentic Mexican I have EVER had outside of Mexico. True to form, Casa Tequilana is found at the end of a forgotten strip mall in a sleepy little town wherein the exit off I15 only drops into the town.... (Aren't all great places from similar origins?). On a Friday night at 630, we got right in. You walk in to the joint and are met with a humble host stand a foot in front of the kitchen- which is discreetly separated by shelves of food storage. Papel Picado strung across the ceiling in festive display meets a mix of plants and other random livery you'd find at any respectable abuela's. The menu is short and sweet but amazing! The drinks, a Cadillac Marg for hubs and a take on a watermelon agua fresca with Tequila Blanco for me, came out quickly and were mixed just right. Then came the delectable fresh made tortilla chips and guacamole- perfect balance of jalapeño and just a hint of lime, I could have licked the bowl clean. For our entrees, hubs got the birria d'abuela and I opted for the enchiladas suiza. I subbed rice and beans for a side salad. The birria were tender, huge with a touch of smoke and fried to perfection. My salad was big enough for both of us to eat on and seriously tasted like the veggies came from someone's garden. Topped with fried homemade tortilla strips and served with their house dressing, a spin on ranch with ancho chili dry rub- it was so good. The enchiladas were simple perfection. So good even the onions could be eaten by themselves. The chicken was slow cooked, tender and tasteful. A slight verde sauce and a sprinkling of elote- it was so good. By the time we got to dessert even I didn't want any- and if you follow me, you'll know I go out to eat for dessert soooooo. All in all, please don't stop. Don't tell your friends. Consensus: Casa Tequilana is just the restaurant I was looking for as a nice place to eat a filling and delicious meal after hiking in Zion! ______________________________________ Food: We got the chips and salsa for an appetizer and ended up going with the medium spice option, and they were great! The chips seem to be oven baked and have a really nice crisp and thickness to them as well as a nice amount of salt to season! The salsa was really good too, it had a bit of kick to it, but for my personal taste, it was just really nice and not too spicy. For the entree, I went with the shrimp ceviche and it was absolutely delicious! Paired with a bit more lime squeezed in a some tapatio and it was perfect for a refreshing after hike meal! I would highly recommend it! ______________________________________ Service: The wait staff were super nice and funny too, asking us if we wanted to dine inside or outside, while it was 108 outside haha. Why do I want fries at a Mexican restaurant? Default option should be rice and refried beans, then you can choose to switch it out for fries if you'd like. Mazatlan in Hurricane has much better food. The torta was legit. From the menu you can tell that Casa Tequilana is trying to serve delicious, authentic food. The description on the torta had me locked in and boy did they deliver. Fluffy bread, tons of flavor, wow factor bites. Just as a torta should be. The birria wasn't bad. Meat was tender and had a mild, comforting flavor. The prices were high for the ambience. $18.95 for a carnitas burrito & fries and $5.95 for chips $ salsa; a bit overpriced for me. The food was edible but the burrito looked like a babies diaper when it was delivered. The chips were a burnt color and the salsa was the only redeeming element of my meal. We met visiting family here for a wonderful two-hour sit-and-chat dinner. We like to hike near Babylon, just up the road, and saw this place a few times thinking we'd have to try it. What a treat! For anyone coming from St. George, it's only a 20-minute drive, located on the main street in Leeds, just minutes off the freeway. Going north, look for a small rustic strip mall on your left side. We've eaten here twice now. I'm a sucker for chili rellenos and we were lucky the first time to see the winter menu. (The menu rotates seasonally throughout the year.) My rellenos were served in a soup bowl with a rich sauce and fresh homemade corn tortillas. Some of the best I've tasted. Last night, from the spring menu, I had shrimp in a creamy ajillo sauce. The shrimp was cooked just right and came with a large, fresh salad that beats the pants off most salads you'd get in a Mexican place. This is a family business that's clean, inviting, and has a cheerful service vibe. Our server was happy to spend a few minutes talking about her favorites and how the menu rotates seasonally. When you walk in, it smells great--like a hole-in-the-wall kitchen in Baja. I believe the owner is from Jalisco. This place is a stand-out, slightly more expensive alternative to typical Americanized (overly cheesy) Mexican restaurants. The only other place in town we'd consider a fav is Irmita's Casita on 700 South in town. If you're driving up I-15, or have an extra half hour to drive out of the "city," and you'd like to sample a better Mexican place, this is it. We can't wait to try more of the menu on our next visit. WOW! All the positive reviews of this restaurant were right. The food was outstanding, and the service was excellent. We had the summer detox margaritas and they were so yummy and refreshing. For dinner we tried the smothered burrito-awesome, chilaquiles nachos and birria quesadillas- both were delicious but the best was the shrimp tacos!!! Family run spot which we love to support.
