This is by far the best Mexican food we've ever had! We are from Michigan and in town just for the night. The reviews looked great so we decided to give it a try. Holy cow, we are SO GLAD we did!!! We ordered so much food because as a family we were starving and we also wanted to try everything! The fry their own tortillas for their hardshell tacos. They had 3 hardshell tacos for just $5! What a deal. The Chile Relleno burrito was really good. It's a big burrito stuff with 1 or 2 chile relleno's and rice then grilled. It's soooo good! I really loved the Birria Tacos. It's 2 tacos filled full of barbacoa, onions & cilantro served with a great portion of consommé with a side of rice and homemade refried beans. This might have been my favorite dish that we tried. We also really enjoyed the Chile Verde. It's a large portion of tender flavorful pork, corn tortillas and rice and beans. We thoroughly enjoyed this as well. We ordered a variety of different street tacos with different meats and loved them all. There is even a salsa bar so you can get your own hot sauces they make in house, limes and even pickled jalapeno's and carrots! Everything about this establishment is a win! The staff is friendly, the music playing, the decor was just so authentic. We couldn't have picked a better place for dinner that night. We left extremely full and happy! I went a few days ago, and their California burrito was amazing! It tasted great, and was very well made. However, I got two more yesterday, and it ended up being very disappointing. Half of the burrito was purely tortilla, and I didn't really get to any filling until I had finished most of it. It might be a discrepancy due to a different chef, but for a restaurant, I would think consistency is important. read more

Excellent Mexican food. We thought that this is the best food you can get in Hurricane and we tried a few establishments. It is a family business, very nice lady takes your order, her young daughter is in the restaurant. Prices are very reasonable, you can get a meal for two for $15. There is a surcharge for credit cards so cash is better. You can ask for customizations of your food. Their chicken taco is so good! There is a free vegetables buffet with cucumber, radishes, spicy carrot, limes and salsas. Plenty of parking in the front and on the side. There is someone selling her sourdough bread for $10 that displays her bread at the restaurant, you simply Venmo her. Highly recommended! read more

Not much to look at from outside with garish parking lot lights, fluorescent paint job, or even inside, with the split dining room, but expect excellent Mexican food that will make the decor irrelevant. My go-to these days is the Chile Relleno, and I was not disappointed with the Chile Relleno Burrito on offer here. (I'm actually starting to favor the chile relleno in a burrito over the more common plated presentation under sauce). The burrito's fillings did not overwhelm the unique taste or texture of the chile. Service is fast-food style across a counter, but that's something else to forget once the bulging, warm wrapped-up burrito is in your hands. (That's what she said.) We ordered a grilled chicken taco and it was definitely just their seasoned mush. All their sodas were pricey and flat. We were looking for dinner in west Hurricane, when El Jinete caught our attention. The restaurant was small but cozy with plenty of tables for seating, and the menu had a wide variety of casual Mexican eats. I got a cheap fish burrito for $6.5, and it came with two pieces of fried fish, lettuce, and some tarter sauce. There were also free salsa and pickled veggies in the fridge. We moved here from San Diego recently and have been on the hunt for something close to what we get back home. It was the tale of two burritos for us, really. We were making the most out of a sunny day and in the neighborhood, when the sun was starting to go down and we decided to get some food before taking to the road. So a couple of burritos it was, and after ordering we waited a few minutes to unwrap. Both were a good size--not the infant-sized portly things that you sometimes find, but more torpedo-like, packed with the fillings. That's where the similarities end, however. The chorizo one was actually quite lovely and a surprise hit, with a not-so-spicy chorizo as the star. The tortilla was fresh and the whole thing was soft and delightful. My grilled chicken burrito, however, was not so great. The shell was crumbly and falling apart, and the chicken was a little overcooked, but more importantly, seems like it had been cooked much earlier. It was barely warm and had that "been sitting out" texture to it. Much love to the locally-run business and the average of a "better than expected" plus a "worse than expected" ends up still being a recommendation, but I would just ask about what's fresh before selecting your meat and making your order. read more

Being originally from California, we're used to good Mexican food. Well, this our go-to-place. We primarily go for their great tacos! We like the shredded beef crispy tacos, and the chicken as well. Really, all of the menu items we have tried have been very good--from breakfast burritos, asada fries, the carnitas plate, enchiladas, etc.[ It's a huge menu!] They make their salsas in house and have an excellent habanero sauce. The inside was a-little hot idk if thats normal.. the condiments were all great Except for their limes they smelled bad and looked a little rancid out of color. The girl at the front desk was very professional and nice my wife and i are from cali Los angeles/ ventura area. Therefore our expectations for mexican food are high! We were hesitant. Being from Southern California where there's a ton of mexican food, this place is bomb!!! We had a chicken quesadilla which was huge!! Probably food for 2 people! There's was quite a few people in the dining area, which had plenty of space. It was really clean and they were playing music in the back. I asked the girl working if the corn with hot Cheeto flakes was good and she it was good. Let me tell you, I'm going back for the corn. It was amazing!! The staff in the back was jamming out too and I love when teams vibe together. Great team!!! My husband got a carne asada California burrito and was begging me to try it but after all my food I couldn't fit it. He said it was amazing and wanted to save half since he couldn't finish it. Go here for their street tacos. My husband said they were amazing. You can get your own sauces to go with it including radishes, carrots, and limes. My burrito was a bit bland. It was huge though. Daughter did not like her ch8coen nuggets and fries but at least they do have a kids meal option. I have some pretty high standards for Mexican food and this ma&pa restaurant reminds me of home. Ventilation wasn't the best and masks aren't really a thing in UT so we took our food home. Order: -Carne asada burrito: Very generous with the meat. You get a bang for your buck with this one. I wish they had rice and beans inside the burrito like what I'm used to, but that was missing. Other than that, it's pretty filling. -Caldo de res: The real winner. The entire dish was really hearty. The broth was clean, perfect amount of seasoning. They had a ton of meat and veggies like zucchini, corn, and carrots. The portion was also very generous. I wish there was some type of salsa or sauce on the side for the burrito. In Utah, there isn't much open on a Sunday. We landed at El Jinete in Hurricane primarily because it was open. There isn't a lot to choose from in this area also. Even still, this is a nice authentic Mexican food experience to explore if your in the area. You order at a window and prices for plates are from 11.50-13.50. The portions are of decent size. I got the steak and onions which was served with beans and rice. Like other Mexican food places, you have marinated carrots and a hot sauce bar. Overall for a small unassuming place we all enjoyed our meals and would return if passing through to Zion. Note, the only reason I knocked a star off was because of cleanliness. Stopped at this place for lunch on our way through town. Some of the best adobada i have ever had! Great refried beans too. My daughter had the lengua burrito and thought it was excellent. Like many places, you do have to specify that you want rice or beans in the burrito. My son had some Camarones Rancheros - also excellent. I recommend it. read more

This place has been open about 2 weeks. This location used to be the La Pitas Mexican restaurant. They did some remodeling to exterior and inside. Based on signage it looks more like a fast food type place. Since this is close to home I wanted this to be really good. Ok first impressions. As we entered the parking lot the first thing I notice is a chain link fence across west parking lot. It had parking only for business on the other side. Looks like a property dispute. As I look closer there was a new fence placed closer to building that has been cut down. Think they had a egress issue. Seen this before where parties involved have to give right away access no matter who owns the property. This makes for a small parking space for El Jinete. This might make for interesting issues down the road. As we enter you can't help but notice huge signs in every window with their specials and fair for sale. Going inside I notice a really nice tiled floor which is new. Then not being sure what's the new drill for service we are pointed around the corner by a customer. Guess there wasn't a leftover sign budget to make signs inside for traffic and placing orders. When we find the order area it starts to make sense that this is a "Fast Food" type place. No table service. Once we decided on what to order we found a seat. Inside was still painted same as it was before. Looks like only upgrade during remodel was the floor. East dinning nook Didn't get the floor upgrade. Still painted concrete. I ordered the 3 rolled taco plate and a carnitas taco. Wife ordered a fish taco, chips, salsa and guacamole. We both had drinks. Bill came to $26.47. WOW this better be way good. Service was pretty fast and we received our order. Remember how I wanted this to be a great new place? Well not so much. Carnitas Taco was generously stuffed with meat..... a very good sign. First bite wasn't what I expected. This was large pieces of pork that was probably cooked in oven and then heated up on flat too grill. It lacked real flavor and was bland. Bummer. Rolled tacos looked good, but alas were also lacking in flavor. Toppings were bland. Green salsa helped but not much. My wife's Fish Taco was pretty good. She was happy. Chips & salsa wasn't . Salsa was bland and watery. Guacamole was manufactured in a factory and cones in a big bag. So a recap is this place has a lot of work to earn points. My 2 star review is a gift. Maybe other items here are better. As many know it starts with the salsa. There's is terrible. Carnitas are a staple. These were really bad. Fish taco was only thing good, maybe a 4 star item. Guacamole was worst than bad. I hope things will get better as they go forward. It looks like it's ran by a Mexican family. They have a lot of things to do to right this ship. Then when you throw in final price out the door. Well this was $12 meal at best. Served on styro plates with plastic utensils. Taco cart vendors have more flash than this place. Given the high price and taste I won't be back till I see 4 star review status. It's an ugly future to get a new place going. Tough to make it work going on what I see. read more
