Though this restaurant is a throwback, touristy spot, we always have a great time and enjoy the playful old school Mexican vibe. The chicken fajitas and shrimp fajitas were both delicious as were the many garnishes provided, with fresh tortillas of course. Chicken en mole and verde were also very tasty, but not overly spicy. Service is prompt and attentive. Tableside guacamole and salsa prep was interesting (tips?!) though a bit of a hustle and unnecessary. The molcajetes and moles are said to be a specialty. Prices are on the high side for Mexican cuisine, but reasonable. We recommend for a traditional Mexican dining experience with well prepared cuisine.
Casa Tradicional was the most touristy place we ate at. Recommended by someone in the resort pool, as well as our taxi driver (who wanted to take us straight there). Instead we got dropped off downtown and walked (not far) to the restaurant. Upon arrival, we were asked several times who recommended the restaurant. Service was super friendly. Or meal was good. We ordered guacamole as an appetizer, which turned out to be tableside salsa and guac with a big tip jar up front. Luckily my friend had some pesos. The tableside salsa guac was delicious, just unexpected, that in addition to paying for it on the menu bill, we also had to tip before eating?! Very strange. We were then hit up by the Mariachis. For the same price as our cab ride to town, they played us a song. Everyone was nice. The meal was nice. But, it's maybe something you only need to do once.?
Located across the street from the gorgeous cathedral, this restaurant is definitely touristy, but it caters to all nationalities, not just an American and Canadian rip-off place. When we were there, we saw a couple of tables of Mexican tourists as well. Due to its location, the prices are pretty high. However, you get great service, good food, and large portions. Expect to drop around $125 on a dinner for two people if you get booze (less if you don't have drinks). One of the must-order items here is the table made guacamole and salsa. The salsa here is one of my favorite things in the world to eat. It's filled with grilled peppers and tomatoes, and it's smoky and sweet and absolutely delicious. Fresh veggies are mashed right in front of you, and it's delightful. The salsa is served warm, which takes some getting used to, but it's so tasty. The guacamole is the same: as fresh as can be. They even give you a small bowl of salt so you can salt to taste, which I appreciate since I'm very sensitive to salt. The corn chips are a bit oily, but they are fresh. For lunch, hubby opted for beef barbacoa and I got the al pastor shrimp. We thought both were "just okay." I think our final opinion was "good, but not great." The best thing about my shrimp dish was the grilled pineapple slice - smoky, sweet, and oh-so-yummy. My dish had a good amount of shrimp, but I was disappointed that the peppers weren't grilled at all and were just mostly raw chunks (on the menu, it said "grilled"). It came with a small dish of fluffy, buttery rice, and a small pot of beans that were perfectly cooked. Hubby's barbacoa was a bit sad, and came with nothing but a side of corn tortillas. The table next to us had ordered fajitas, and I would get those next time! It's not that they looked particularly good, but there is a SHOW from the staff when you order them. Trust me: if you have kids, order the fajitas! Our lunch was pricey (about $80 U.S. with tip), but reasonable. The atmosphere was fun, with open air windows and a mariachi band that happily took "no" for an answer if you aren't looking to offer tips for music. The restaurant is very clean, the staff spoke just enough English (the menus are in English which is nice), and the service was prompt and friendly. I can see why this restaurant comes so highly recommended.

When we come to Puerto Vallarta we always enjoy a delicious & memorable evening at Casa Traditional. Colorful Mexican decor. Casual dress. The waiter is always engaging in conversation & is entertaining when he brings out the dishes. The flaming fajitas brought to your table is a sight to see. The guacamole made at your table is also a cool touch. Strolling Mariachis. All wanting to make a few bucks. We all had different dishes. Everyone pleased with their food. Solid chicken w/mole, great fajitas. Cocktails elaborate served in fancy Mexican glasses. Food is pricey here for Mexican but worth it for the eventful evening Will be back next trip

Very attentive and interactive staff elevate the whole experience, it eve included Aztec Dancers. Very authentic PV ambiance, and great food. The portions are substantial, we couldn't finish everything.
Popular with tourists. Guacamole made at table side is worth a try albeit made with a small amount of avocados. Pleasant atmosphere with relaxed service. Menu as you would expect. Soups, salads, Mexican specialties. Full bar. Credit cards. Lunch & dinner.
The food was really good! I'm very picky about Mexican food, but this place did not disappoint. If you're in Puerto Vallarta, you need to stop by. They are not by the beach, they are more inland. The service was good and they were very attentive.
The best we have found in PV. They make table side salsa, wow! Great ambiance and super location. We had fajitas and share a mixed plate. The beef and chicken were very tender. This is our new favorite in Puerto Vallarta.
Fantastic service and ambiance. One of the owners was there and talked with us the entire time. Fascinating life... and the walls of the restaurant are adorned with their family pictures. The food was very good, but not great. They were very generous with the tequila and their margaritas were amazing. Located just a few yards from the cathedral Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, this restaurant is a must-try.
I'm not one to often leave a yelp review, but this place was amazing! We were given a coupon for a free plate of guacamole on the street, which got us in the door. But it is probably in my top five favorite places to have ever eaten in my life. I didn't take a picture of everything we ate because I didn't expect the food to be that amazing. The salsa molcajete was DELICIOUS!! They ask if you want Serrano pepper inside prior to making it. I love spicy, however, a few in our group do not. So we only did half a Serrano. I thought it was very mild and the others thought it was a perfect amount of spice. We also got the fried cheese and cilantro. Better than any queso fundido I've ever had! We sampled their mole sauce, and for me a person who usually does not like mole, it was good. Very savory. The chile relleno was the best I ever had in my life! The manager said it was his grandmother's recipe. The carne asada inside was so tender and flavorful. The cheese melted perfectly and incredible flavor. So delicious. The carnitas, in the top three I've ever had in my life. Juicey, crunchy, and flavorful all at once. My friend got the chille en nogada. A vegetarian, dish that was savory and sweet. I didn't sample it but it looked and smelled amazing. The rice and beans, well seasoned and perfectly cooked. The staff is so friendly and funny. The drinks were strong but delicious! One of my favorite places to have ever gone and a new must visit for my Puerto Vallarta adventures. The malecón and the church are just minutes/seconds away to walk to and visit. Plenty of beautiful shops nearby. You should visit!
Love the salsa made to order at our table. We enjoyed the tortilla soup, with chips and salsa. It hit the spot after a long day at the airport.
We were looking for a good, authentic Mexican restaurant and were told to hit a different spot from a friend but switch to here based on a local recommendation from the Tequila shop! The table side, made to order salsa with grilled tomato and peppers and guacamole was the best. Also loved the melted cilantro cheese. The servers were all very friendly and fun. The atmosphere is old but charming. You can hear the bells from the catholic church ringing there on the block . You can got serenaded by very talented mariachis but i heard them at the two tables near us so passed on the opportunity . (Extra tip $). We had the mango margarita and a Coke Light. The margarita is nice and strong. There is nothing like Mexican Coke in fun glasses. I had the local traditional Zarandeado fillet. It came with a salad with a spicy salsa dressing. The fish was grill perfectly and was so amazing. We also had the mixed fajitas and they light them on fire right at the table side and play fun music for the experience!! We left very happy and very full! I'd say it is a more expensive meal but you are in the very touristy part of old Vallarta so to be expected. However... WORTH IT!! read more

The staff and decor are very nice and beautiful. We had found this review on Yelp and it looked like a mom and pop place. It is blocks from the beach and has no view of the water or of anything. $$ signs are 2 yet the menu is $$$$ I'm on vacation and we are out spending money but to have a 4 $ sign restaurant with fancy decor offer such high prices was not for us yet it might be for you. You can expect to spend 1000. PS per person or more with drinks. read more

This was our favorite restaurant the entire trip. A must see place. We were surprised by and enjoyed the entertainment serenaded at our table and fajitas on fire. We enjoyed margaritas, chips and made at your table salsa, steaks, and fajitas. Service was friendly and fun. And food tasted fresh and great. We'll be back! read more

Close to cathedral, here we are again '24 w a new group of 8 adult family. No mariachi band not an issue, the DJ terribly loud on arrival yet appreciate volume down to average. Chili relleno beef was really good as usual. Sister enjoyed shrimp relleno. Guacamole made at table, good stuff. Mole less than average just blah, really sad. I've had some of the best ever mole sauce enchiladas here over the years- guess that chef moved on. read more

This is some of the BEST food you will have in Puerto Vallarta!! Great waiters, great music, great vibes!! This place is great for an intimate dinner or fun with friends. Definitely get the house margarita,, they give you a ton of tequila on top!! read more

I found this place on Yelp while my friends and I were walking around the area and decided to come and try some authentic Mexican sit down food while on vacation and boy, did we stumble into a pleasant surprise! The food here was amazing. Hands down the best Mexican food I have ever had in my life. We got the chips and guacamole for starters which they make at the table! Am I overreacting to say that was the best guacamole I've ever had in my life? I make my homemade guacamole the same way but it does not taste like this one! It also comes with a table side made salsa that was spicy and delicious. The table got ceviche as well which everyone enjoyed. For main courses, we got the fried red snapper which has a lemon pepper butter flavoring to it. The squid was cooked over a wooden fire so it had a very nice smoky flavor to it. The molcajete was steaming and looked interesting but flavor wise, it was okay compared to everything else we had. Lastly, we got the beef fajitas and my goodness, the most tender piece of steak I've ever had! Everything we ordered was so good. Drinks were strong. The servers would pour the tequila into the margaritas at the table so you know exactly how much liquor is in your drink. Service was amazing. Everyone was very nice and knew English. There were a couple birthdays while we were dining here and the birthday person got a free shot with the server and the whole restaurant turned into a very lively atmosphere. read more

Food: 5/5 all the food and drinks were very good. I started with the guac which was made in front of us which was great. Had a beef brisket that was very tasty and had a lot of flavor. The drinks were also great but on the stronger side. The Tres leches cake at the end was a lighter cake which was a great finisher. Service: 5/5 the staff were all very friendly and had great energy throughout the whole dinner. The mariachi band was also very good. Ambiance: 5/5 it was a very festive and upbeat vibe and is great for friends or family to enjoy a nice evening. read more

Fantastic dinner for our group at this amazing resting in the center of town. The owner Nino was very welcome and really took care of our party. They made fresh guacamole and salads right at the table. The drinks were amazing and Nino added some extra tequila in our margaritas. The main dishes were awesome. I tried the Chile releno that was his grand mothers recipe. My wife had the carnitas that was out of this world. They had a mariachi band that played live for our table for tip. We had a birthday in our party and they celebrated her with a nice piece of chocolate cake. All of our food and drinks came out to $260 which is very reasonable to the quality taste and the ambience of this place. read more

Oh my gosh this place was absolutely amazing. It was so cute and they're very traditional. They have mariachi band going around each table singing they do charge 150 peso per table, totally optional. The free homemade salsa was incredible and you could adjust how spicy it is! Me gusta picante mucho The beautiful ambience is very romantic. It is a perfect place for travelers! We got the cilantro, melted cheese (cilantro queso fundito) WOW - muy muy bien! The Tomatina and cilantro, along with the really cheesy melted cheese and fresh homemade tortillas absolutely amazing seriously one of my favorite things on the menu!! The redfin snapper was so good very juicy served with a garlic butter ! Yum! It was more than enough for two people. It came with a side of beans, rice, veggies and tortillas. Aaron Miller came out to about $76 in total! I got a spicy margarita with a salted rim, my personal favorite go to.... And no, it wasn't too spicy. Don't get me started on the mariachi band that came to our table to sing me a happy birthday in Spanish. They called me Panchita lol - I literally held back so many tears because my grandmas birthday is this month - she passed a couple years ago she loved Mexican music and mariachi bands - she was definitely dancing up there in heaven so blessed to have his experience! 10/10 will be coming back here next time I visit! read more
Nacho and the staff were absolutely incredible and made such a wonderful dinner experience. Obviously we got table side guacamole and salsa and I had to get enmoladas because that is such a comfort food for me. Everything was delicious from the drinks to the meal to the ambiance. Puerto Vallarta did not disappoint. This was by far my fave. Nino, Saul, and Roberto thank you so much for all the hospitality. Ambiance is more casual but cute bc you are near the center so you want to be ready for anything. I really enjoyed my last dinner here. read more

Hidden gem in Puerto Vallarta, Guac is made by your table and it's delicious! Large plate sizes and the food is delicious. Homemade style with authentic taste. Small area but great service! Definitely will visit when I'm in town again. read more

We were looking for a good, authentic Mexican restaurant and this checked the box! The table side, made to order salsa and guacamole was the best. Also loved the melted cilantro cheese. The server, (possibly owner?) was very friendly and fun. The atmosphere is old but charming. You can hear the bells from the church ringing. We also got serenaded by very talented mariachis. (Extra $ but worth it). We left very happy and very full! read more
Best Mexican food I ever had, in Puerto Vallarta or elsewhere! We stayed at a 5-star hotel (the employees recommended Casa Tradicional) & the food there didn't even come close to the delicious fresh meal we enjoyed here at Casa Tradicional. We loved it ALL, from the fresh guac made table-side to the sizzling molcajete to the mariachis serenading us table-side. I would've eaten here every day during our stay in PVR if I could have. And service was as superb as the food. Location was convenient in town (loved the view of the church steeple) outside the window. Highly recommended! read more
Lobster tail as big as my head, It was very good just a little overcooked. We had lots of entertainment there and I love the presentation of the cocktails, they pour the alcohol in at your table. Give me more please. Live entertainment in and outside, met some fabulous people that work there and also some fabulous guest. I would recommend. read more

We absolutely love this place! It can get lively on a weekend night with live music and fun songs! Please do not pass up the bicolor soup, it is the absolute best! We also always the get the cochinita pibil, which is so delicious every time. They make your guacamole and salsa table side which is a fun touch! The margaritas are poured at the table, and they do not disappoint!! Highly recommend this place!! read more

Great place in the middle of town. My fiancé and I had the shrimp enchiladas and shrimp chile relleno. Everything was great. They make the guacamole at your table and it was delicious. They also make a salsa for you. Great fun service. Give this place a try. read more
