My husband and I went for a late anniversary dinner. The experience of being at a castle was everything I expected it to be. The grounds and the decor on the inside were spectacular. It truly is a breathtaking place. With that being said, let me say the dining experience wasn't up to par. Our waitress was nice, but wasn't as attentive as she should have been. We sat with empty glasses, during the majority of our dining time. She did apologize for this towards the end. The bread board was wonderful, the presentation of the entrees and sides were great, but they tasted terrible. We definitely left disappointed. I had the local beef filet it was charred on the outside more than it should've been. Our macaroni and cheese side was cold and tasteless. I was really hoping that the food and service would've matched the rest of the experience. If you're gonna to offer upscale dining then it needs to be just that. We paid well over $100 for our meal and it should've been one of the best meals I've ever eaten, but sadly it was one of the worst. read more

We came here to celebrate our anniversary! My husband and I both got the steak. It was very good. We liked that everything was farm to table. The service was okay but not overly personal. Just seemed like we were another table and when I'm paying a lot for a dinner I kind of expect that next level of service. read more

I went here with my fiancé for our anniversary, and we were both amazed. The castle and grounds were beautiful and the staff was extremely inviting and helpful. While we were there we saw several people that obviously were better off than we were, but at no point did we feel as if we weren't a priority. Before you order, the server takes the time to get to know you, and then recommends dishes based on what you like.The delicious food came quickly, and we were checked on several times throughout the meal by management and our server. After we finished eating, we were invited to tour the grounds and enjoy the scenery, which we certainly did. I would say that everyone should at least go here once to see what it's about. Stopped by 15 minutes before brunch close at 12:45 with no reservations We were greeted by a friendly professional at the gate. He happily called inside and confirmed they were happy to seat us for brunch or a drink. Professional Lovely setting Delish food Nice prices especially considering location I want to come back and stay overnight and have dinner!! read more

If you are looking for an authentic farm to table experience, this is the place for you! We stayed at the castle and were able to have dinner and breakfast at Castle Farms. The staff and customer service was nothing short of incredible! Stephen greeted us and explained their concept of farm to table experience. Caleb was our waiter and went above and beyond to explain the menu. Lisa was an outstanding bartender after dinner as well! For dinner we had (all were outstanding): Turkey stuffed mushrooms Bisque with duck in the soup Chicken Duck For breakfast: Bloody Mary's (unique blend and fresh!) Turkey sausage wrapped in bacon (I cannot remember the name of the dish specifically, but it was unbelievable) A lot of places in our hometown (about 2 hours away) will boast a farm to table experience. It doesn't even come close to this place. If you're in the Lexington area, you need to try this place out. Highly recommend!!! read more

This place is way overpriced. I understand eating in a castle is not a usual thing and I understand there will be a markup but for what I paid for 3 tiny scallops is more than just gouging. I was definitely not happy with my meal. The steak looked pretty good and the wine selection was good but just overpriced. The grounds were well kept and we were allowed to walk around freely except where the lodging was since we were not guests. I would probably go back for the castle farmer's market since I hear good things about it but I probably will not be for a dinner. For what we paid half of us were still hungry when we walked out. read more

Took my mother here to celebrate her 90th birthday following a tour of the Kentucky Castle. The food was outstanding! The service was not. Our waiter (Dan B) was friendly enough but never there. Very inattentive. We waited for everything while tables around us were tended to by other wait staff. Finished my meal with nothing to drink, would have gladly gotten my water myself except we didn't have a caraf of water like the other tables did. Finished our meal and our waiter finally showed up and asked if we wanted a to-go box and our check. Never even OFFERED us dessert (knowing we were celebrating a birthday). Really disappointed by the service and you had the opportunity to complete the meal with something sweet for a 90 year old birthday girl but we simply weren't the priority or important enough for the restaurant to that. The phenomenal farm to table experience was marred by an inattentive waiter. I expected better service than what we got.......and what we were charged for. I attended an event here at the Castle, The event was held in the "greenhouse" which was an event tent with closed sides and doors put up inside the courtyard. We checked, but was not given a program or any information on the event or the facilities. - as in where are the restrooms. There was open seating but arriving 15 minutes early we ended up sitting in the back. The stage could have been a bit taller as it was difficult to see the performers and it was difficult to hear singing and pickers, over the noise of the heater. So they turned the heater off during the sets so we could hear, but everyone got cold. The temperature outside was mid 40s that evening. The "light refreshments" were on the light side, crackers & dip, veggies and ranch, pinwheel burritos and cookies. The only drinks were a cash bar, it would have been nice to have some water or tea available. We did go inside and found the restrooms and had a quick look around while we warmed up. read more

I made an extremely last minute reservation here (~15 minutes before showing up at 11:30 on a Wednesday) and everyone was extremely friendly & accommodating. Had the Belgian waffle with cherry cardamom whipped cream, which was delicious and came out very quickly. They were kind enough to let me wander around a bit as well. Nothing bad to say about this place. We passed the castle more than 100 times on the road and my wife always wanted to get inside. Take your significant other here and they will be happy. Finally after all the years of driving by it we get in... sadness is what greeted us and we hope it will get better with the new owners. We were surprised at the disrepair the castle is in in just a few years time since the fire and rebuild. Also the "rules" about where you are allowed to look around and take photos... French fine dinning in a Chateau to match. The "castle" is what drew our interest and dinner was pretty much an excuse to go check it out. When you pull up, I won't say you're transported into a fantasy land, but it is really neat. The grounds are beautifully maintained (even in winter), and the interior is well decorated. Then there's dinner. What was intended as an afterthought became the main attraction. We had a charcuterie board, a Brussels sprout salad, trout dish and a ribeye. All were excellently prepared and perfectly seasoned. I recommend the place to any visitors and locals alike. If you haven't been, you should try it, and I doubt it'll be your last visit. We stayed at the Castle and we're provide reservations upon arrival. The restaurant was FULLY booked so we were lucky. The environment was charming and the farm to table cuisine was outstanding. I really enjoyed walking through the 'Chefs garden' to see what would potentially be on the plate at dinner. Lamb chops for me and shrimp orzo for my wife we're both tremendously delicious. Stephan (aka Andrew was super attentive and extremely well versed in the menu offerings. His service was outstanding. I give a strong recommendation, well worth the drive from Louisville. read more

We had an amazing experience at the castle for brunch. The manager, Steve, accommodated us in a private dining area, and provided history about the castle and transformation over the past few years. Our server, Caleb, was attentive and prompt. Our brunch was fresh, and we appreciate their seasonal menu and support of local farmers. A spectacular surprise. We knew nothing about this restaurant (though later found out that all our KY friends did!) and stumbled upon it when looking for something near the Bluegrass Airport. Knowledgeable, friendly staff, superb farm-to-table menu, food to die for and a wonderful selection of KY bourbon from the bar. If I'm ever back in Lexington, we'll be back for sure. read more

Seated quickly (had reservation). -Server was friendly, professional, attentive (without being intrusive), and knowledgeable of the menu. -Floor manager made sure to check in on the guests and was very friendly and engaging, once again without being intrusive. 2) Food: -Soup du jour, which had crispy pancetta and asparagus in it as our starter. Absolutely delicious and a surprise highlight of the meal. -Blackhawk Farms KY Proud Filet Mignon - Perfectly cooked, melt in your mouth rare steak. The included sides were good. **Definitely the best steak in Lexington area** -Warm Brussels Sprouts Salad - Quite tart. Was nice with the steak and creamy / cheesy sides. -Gruyere & Goat Cheese Mac & Cheese - Good taste, but it's mac and cheese. Probably the most forgettable part of the meal. 3) Drinks: -I got 2 of the whiskey sours. Spot on. -Husband got the mule & old fashioned. We went for dinner on a Sunday evening for my birthday and the experience was underwhelming. We arrived 20 min early for our reservation and were expecting to have a drink at the bar first but were told our table was ready so we sat down. My husband said they appeared booked for reservations online but the dining room was never more than half full the whole time we were there. The manager was kind and friendly when seating us but after that we felt nothing but rushed. We ordered drinks the charcuterie appetizer and when it came out waitress couldn't tell us what we were looking at. I ordered the chef's vegetarian option which was very good and my husband ordered the hamburger which he said was fine. We were never offered another drink and with our mouths full our waitress comes over to tell us about the desserts, gives us a few minutes then asks us if we want to order any. We didn't... we were kind of annoyed at this point. As soon as I finish (I always eat faster than my husband) she swoops in and clears everything off the table except his plate which is so awkward for him and so unnecessary. At that point we just got the check and left and went to Malone's for another drink. It was my birthday which was on the reservation and I mentioned to the manager upon being asked, but no further recognition was made. (I didn't want to be sung to, but was so impressed when my mom received a hand written note from the kitchen when dining at holly hill inn for her birthday... some acknowledgment is nice at a restaurant people are obviously going to for a special occasion.) Overall the food was fine, but you are dining at a castle for the ambiance and experience, both of which were lacking. Glad we tried it but once was enough. read more
