Staying at the Beachfront Campground and gave this a try. I had the blackened fish sandwich and the wife had fish tacos. The fish was cooked perfectly, something i can't do. The place was busy but the server was excellent and gave good suggestions and the food and drinks came right out. Very disappointed with Catalyst Seafood. I ordered the fish tacos & they're so bland. No seasoning at all! It was hard to eat. I had to sprinkle a ton of Tabasco just to eat it. My husband ordered the halibut fish sandwich & it was bland as well! My daughter ordered the Shrimp Po' Boy on sourdough. No flavor at all, not even the cheese. It looked good, but the Chef didn't season the food. Won't be returning & I don't recommend this restaurant. :( read more

This was a nice surprise. It doesn't look like much from the outside, and the inside could use updating. The margaritas we had tasted like a mix and not fresh lime as stated. However the service was friendly and efficient. Most importantly, was the food and that is where they shined. We had some of the best calamari ever, tender, not greasy and delicious. The chowder was delicious as well, it was quite filing, not an overwhelming amount of clams, but well balanced and tasty. Oh, the onion rings were some of the best you can get. The drinks were delicious! We had the Oregon Mule and the High-tide Mai Tai. I tried the Rockfish Sandwich and my partner had the Fish-n-Chips. The calamari and clam-chowder was great, but both of our entrees were lacking flavor. The fish was well cooked but it didn't have any taste at all.. I didn't really taste the tartar sauce on the sandwich, but the Ciabatta bread was good. The server was a little off-putting at first, but who knows what she was going through. It was a monday night and we decided to order takeout. Went there to pickup my order and the place was packed which I took as a good sign. As I approached the restaurant I noticed the outside raised deck area was filled with drunken shoulder to shoulder partyers and none wearing a mask. That was not a good sign and glad I was not dining inside. My order was being packed just as I got there. The person waiting on me asked if I wanted extra sauce, For what? I said no, big mistake. When I unbagged my order the defects became very apparent: Clam chowder in breadbowl with shrimp added, sounds yummy right. Well it was a bread bowl with a handful of shrimp, NO CHOWDER. Garden salad with oil and vinegar dressing, how can you mess that up. They did. The greens were fresh and good but no dressing, not a drop, nothing. Our request for ranch dressing and ketchup, you got it, nothing included. WTF. Salt and pepper-yep, nothing. The good- bread for breadbowl was very good sour dough. As mentioned the salad was good. Onion rings- were excellent, crispy and tasty coating. Oyster shooters, of the two, one was really good, the other looked like a seagull regurgitated it (slimy and smelly). The rest of the food, chicken strips, fries were good but nothing spectacular. If I had to do it over again, I would open the bag and check my order before leaving, don't trust the quality control on take out orders at this place. read more

Love this cute little restaurant by the fishing boats in Brookings. Our server, Cole, was amazing. It was obvious that he made everyone who walked into the place happy. He was so polite and friendly that it made the experience a great one. I ordered the clam chowder and a house salad and W ordered the fish tacos. I would definitely give this restaurant 5 stars were it not for the fact that my soup was served almost cold. I rarely send food back, but I found cold soup to be unacceptable. Cole apologized profusely and replaced the cold chowder with a bowl of warmer chowder. It was warm enough to appreciate it's deliciousness, but it still wasn't hot enough (kind of luke warm). Still, I would order that chowder again.and request that they serve it hot. My salad was HUGE for $6.00 and very fresh and delicious. W's fish tacos with canary rock fish were OMG fantastic. I wish I had ordered the tacos. Were it not the chowder having been cold, I would definitely give this restaurant 5 stars. read more

Poor. Initial beer ordered took at least 10 minutes. Was an IPA, ordered a Blonde. Two of us ordered Fish and Chips. One regular, on Halibut for $10 more . Of 4 fish in Halibut order only one was Halibut and the rest just the cheaper rock fish that other diner ordered. Bait and switch. Easy to recognize when one ordered regular. Told server and their answer was to just charge cheaper priced regular fish and chips. Not appropriate since didn't eat it. read more

A local friend brought us to Catalyst for dinner. My husband had fish and chips and he said the fish has natural sweetness and the batter was nicely crispy. I ordered fried oysters and oh my goodness! They were so meaty, juicy and so FRESH! We overheard our nice server proudly telling the table next to us that he caught the fish they were eating that morning! What a great little restaurant. The only complaint I have is that we'd have to travel thousands of miles from NYC to Brookings to eat there again. It won't be soon but we hope to make it back there again. read more

Anyone who has rated this place less than a 5 does not understand the value of a local eatery. The best seafood north of San Francisco - hands down - is at Catalyst. The Seafood Scampi was delicious and the bearnaise sauce on the surf and turf - oh my lord!!! Plus, the beer is COLD! Don't come expecting a Michelin rated atmosphere, but you should expect Michelin rated flavor. Sorry but this is my experience. When arriving at Catalyst Seafood's front door there was a line of 6. Not a problem, since we're all having to wait for tables it really didn't bother me that no one greeted me or asked if they could help. After 15 minutes I decided to go to my truck and lookup there website. After a few minutes I was able to place my order for one cup of clam chowder to go. At 3:30 pm my order was confirmed to be ready for pickup between 3:55 and 4:12 pm. I was back in line at 4pm. As I stood in line still now greeting from staff. When I finally arrived at the front of the line I asked if my to go order was available. The waitress seemed confused and needed another t help process the order. What really was concerning is the waitress that was confused, walked around to the preparation area and filled my to go clam chowder order. Handed it to me with no spoon and clam chowder dripping Dow the side. I had a $6.00 order and gave her $11.00. Thank you, and walked to my truck. I opened the to go container and took a spoonful. It was a sad experience, " it's not in food safe temperature" almost cold. I will try another time and hopefully the clam chowder is hot. read more

My husband and I had fish and chips with the Ling Cod His was deep fried and mine was grilled.The pieces of fish I got were the size of chicken McNuggets and frys were too salty. Visited Lunch July 28, 2017 Overall, it was good food but not amazing - the food wasn't as good as expected since most reviews talked about fresh food. Personally, the calamari was 'soggy' and while there was a good amount of fish on the tacos, it was also not as crispy as it could have been. Our daughter did comment that she saw our food placed in the window well before our food was delivered, so that might explain it. We also had fish and chips, again, a good amount but not overly hot and soggy, and finally, the clam chowder wasn't as good as we've had other locations along the Oregon Coast. We will be back again to try the food again, but for us so far it's simply okay. read more

My husband and I enjoyed a delicious dinner at Catalyst on October 25. We were anxious to try this place since we had eaten at its previous incarnation. The new version is awesome! We liked the cool vibe, the creative menu, and our dinner was delightful. I had the High Tide Mai Tai which was made with coconut rum, pineapple, grenadine and pomegranate. It was okay. The coconut flavor put me off a bit, but at least I tried something new and adventurous! We slurped down incredibly fresh oyster shooters. Very tasty! Hubby had steamer clams with grilled bread (like a chibata bread) and I had the shrimp basket. We cleaned our plates! Hubby did mention that the clams were in a rather spicy hot tomato broth. He's a die hard steamer fan who loves a white wine and butter broth, but he ate his clams with gusto. I loved the panko large shrimp and the shoe string fries. The shrimp was lightly battered and I appreciated the light touch. For dessert, we tried the bourbon caramel cheesecake. It was rather homogeneous in texture and flavor. We decided it would benefit from a drizzle of chocolate syrup. Others will like it I'm sure. Our server was Sierra, an engergetic young woman who was hostess, wait person, and bus boy, and she never failed to offer a smile and cheerful comment to everyone. I gotta admire her energy and charming manner! We enjoyed our first visit to Catalyst and will return many times, I'm sure as we love good, super fresh fish and seafood. Went to Brookings looking for a good place to eat Seafood and everyone is talking about Ian the new Chef at Catalyst Seafood on the harbor. And they where right. As soon as I walked in I was greeted by smiles from the chef and crew. The Tattood chef in the back was really proud of his food and I saw why. Fast service, hot food and the quality was amazing. I ordered the steamer clams with fish tacos substitute lingcod and it was the best I've encountered in my life. I had my doubts but they were blasted out of the water by the savory dishes at the Catalyst. Definitely will be back read more

We are vacationing in Crescent City and wanted some fresh fish, we are coming back when in Brookings. Ordered the oysters appetizers first and they were amazing! Lightly battered and fresh! The crab tacos were loaded with fresh crab, the fish and chips were just as delicious and fresh cod. Their tuna melt is the their own fresh caught and locally canned tuna. The wait person was very helpful in our meal choices, and let us know that the cook was flexible with our choices. The place is small and clean. read more

Okay, so i come here every time i pass brookings. Each time the expierence is different. Some expierences have been 5 star and some have been less. For that i am landing on a 3 star and hope that the restaurant takes the criticism of their customers well into account because i really want this place to suceed and thrive. First time i came was not long after they had opened. The fresh fish they were frying was delicious, but the batter was very oily, indicating that the fryer was not up to temp when the fish was dropped. This resulted in the batter tasting much like a fair funnel cake. This has seemed to improve as time has gone on. I still enjoyed eating thw fish from inside the batter. We came one time when they had fresh crab and the crab was indeed fresh and mostly extra pleasant. We had the crab and artichoke bread bowl special. Super expensive, but what fresh crab isnt. It was delicious and i would treat myself to it any time its in their menu. They were also doing a cold crab sandwich special. I really regreted getting this. The crab was good enough but it was the whole sandwich was plain and uninspired. Hoagie roll, cold crab and tomato and lettuce which only washed out the great flavor of the crab. Now this is where everything went wrong for me. After getting 2 bites loaded with crab shells, i ended up meticulously picking through it so i didnt waste any of that spendy crab but also didnt shred my mouth or internal organs with crab shells, and fed the roll to my dog. The real disappointment was that i passed up on the fresh halibut and chips that my fiance got for that sandwich. THE FRESH HALIBUT AND CHIPS WERE FREEKING AMAZING. I dont care how much it cost, please dont pass up the opportunity to have that if its available to you!!! The chowder is always good, though i do have a personal preference for clam chowder without carrots. The first time i ordered the steamer clams i was so impressed. They were so different than most restaurants around here. They had andouille sausage and was a touch cajun instead of the white wine and garlic that is more common. The last time we went, they had changed to the more traditional clams for this region and there was hardly enough broth to dip bread in. That was a bummer. BUUUTTT, the clams are clean and free of sand, which is what we really want. Also the prawns add on is well worth it. The very last time we went, tuna was the fresh fish they had on the menu along with rockfish. We got tuna and chips, with rock fish add on, always love that fresh rockfish! As well as a tropical inspired grilled tuna tocos. Definitely jot my favorite. I think i have come to the conclusion that I'm not a huge fan of cooked tuna unless its lightly seared and thin slices or the good ole tuna fish sandwhich. Taking this into account the biggest issues were the cook of the tuna. The thinner ends of the tuna chunks were so over cooked that my dog ate that as well. Even with how hit and miss some things are, the staff has always been amazing and there are things that they nail! I will continue to eat here and update my review as needed. read more

We just ate supper there tonight. Granddaughter had the rockfish sandwich, husband had the shrimp and chips and I had the fish taco that was rockfish. All of the meals were excellent and served very quickly even though the place was packed and people standing waiting for a seat. The steamer clams were delicious and well prepared with a generous portion. The broth was delicious with hints of beer, generous garlic cloves, andouille sausage and nice tender clams. Here's the downside : we each ordered the fish and chips substituting salad and grilled fish. The amount of fish was ridiculously small and the salad was skimpy and dry. Problem is we went to another restaurant the next day for lunch and tried their clam chowder and it was horrible.........had to go back to Catalyst for dinner and have more of theirs!!!!
