The steamed clams were over cooked, the shrimp had a terrible taste, the fish was somewhat tolerable and even the spaghetti with red sauce on the kids menu was gross. Another excellent meal in driving distance from our new home in OC-whoda thunk there'd be so many top notch restaurants in this area??? We've been shocked and thrilled. Service was again very good-the people in this area are so much friendlier than we are used to. It is like we've moved back in time as well as distance. We love it! Anyway, food: steamed shrimp were very good, the cod fish and chips was great, the filet mignon was perfectly cooked, (I would just recommend a bit of restraint on the salt in the preparation) the mashed potatoes were THE BEST! and the cole slaw decent. The highlight (for me) was the best bread I've eaten in 50 years. (anyone out there been frustrated trying to find actually GOOD white bread?? It's like hen's teeth...) Well, shock on shock, Catch 54 makes their own. And it is fabulous! And they sell it!! (Of course we left with a loaf!) So another wonderful SoDel restaurant (the only exception has been Papa Grande which is like the ugly pimple on a beautiful face) We'll get up to Millsboro one day to try the golf course one. During my first time visit to Catch 54 on July 22, 2023 I asked for a table outside to have appetizers and cocktails while my mom (who has physical limitations) and I waited for the children to get done boating. Our initial hostess was tremendously kind and helpful in accommodating this request. She helped us to the table and assured us it was OK as the restaurant wasn't busy AT ALL at 230 in the afternoon. Exactly one hour later as we were already finishing up, the evening hostess came to our table (which now also included the other parents of the kiddos) and essentially admonished us for taking space. There was literally nobody in the restaurant waiting for where we were. She repeated herself multiple times as if we didn't understand the microaggressions that were coming out of her mouth such as (don't tell other people about here or these tables are being bussed). We were NOT taking a significant amount of additional space, we were paying customers that had ordered more than enough and were getting ready to leave. We had no intention of staying for the evening and quite honestly we felt harassed. I don't know why we were being targeted, I'm not sure if it was racially motivated or homophobic related or maybe none of the above and she was just an unkind human. Either way, it left an impression...one that says I should not return in the future. read more

A happy accidental find. I saw they had happy hour from open until 6pm and I knew I had to try this place. 3pm on a Saturday in August and the lower level bar was full. Only one 4-topper left...like they saved it just for us. I wanted to go upstairs because I bet it is an amazing view as this is right next to the bay but the bar wasn't open yet. Service at the 4 tables is up to you. Little sign on the table tells you to walk up to the bar if you need anything. I love it! But to be honest, the bartender made her rounds and checked on us 3 times! She was great! Happy hour menu is posted here on Yelp. Domestic beers-$2, Drafts-$3, raw oysters-$1 each, raw clams-$0.50 each. Yes. You read that correctly! I had planned on just filling up on raw oysters but as I looked around the other tables, I wanted to order the other things I saw too! Calamari-$6, bucket of fries-$3 12 oysters and something called hog wings but are really ribs. Crunchy on the outside, fall off the bone tender on the inside and a delicious sweet yet tangy sauce. I only ordered two as they were $3 a piece but wished I had a plate-load of those mouthwatering meaty ribs! I have to come back and try the blue fish dip and the giant cheeseburger! From the regular menu: shaved brussels sprouts (BS) salad-$7 and dirty brussels and bacon-$7. A very light salad with pecorino, chopped pistachios, red onion and honey vinaigrette...and so tasty! I am a new BS fan and I love them roasted with bacon and onion but this salad really rocks! The dirty BS was good. It was different as there were a lot of other things mixed in like tomatoes and little white beans. It was served hot with a hint of maybe a tomato vinaigrette. Definitely a bit pricey...I saw a 22oz ribeye steak for almost $40. I wonder if it is bone in. Don't really care. I know I am going to try it next time considering the magic done on one little rib. I was very pleased having ate here for a second time and it was as good as the first time. The ambiance is great - how can it not be when you overlook the water? It was pre-Valentine's date, a little busy, yet the service and food was excellent. I had a fish special, rockfish, DELICIOUS! The fish and chips were also ordered at the table and received rave reviews. Save room for the killer desserts. The key lime pie is one of the best I've had. It would be the result of a cheesecake and a key lime pie having a tawdry affair and then having a baby cake/pie bastard child. AMAZING. Ate at Catch 54 two days ago and 2 of the four attendees got food poisoning. The only thing that they ate differently than us was the salmon. My boyfriend couldn't eat more than a few bites because it was raw. They were both violently throwing up and stuck in the bathroom for the following 24 hrs. I called when they opened the following day and spoke to the manager and the head chef. Both dismissed my concerns and told me "no one else had complained" and over 60 people had eaten the salmon the night I was there. It was odd to me that the salmon cooked "as recommended" was medium rare being that that falls within the danger zone for food safety practices. I asked the manager if she wanted the information from my receipt being that I paid almost $300 with tip and obviously wanted atleast the two meals comped and she said no and said she would just send me something in the mail. I was really hoping there would be more courtesy in the response. Please think twice before eating here because if you get sick they don't care and won't take any consideration with accountability. read more

Stopped here on the way from Ocean City to NYC, and it was the nicest meal of my trip. Sit outside on the top balcony if you can--they honor the happy hour deals and it has a beautiful view of the bay. I tried a bunch of dishes here to get a good sampling. To start with the "avoids": brussel sprout salad--over dressed and the parmesan was smothering; oysters-so this is a tough call because they were fresh, but a little too sandy for me, not cleaned well. I recommend the crab and squash soup, it was very creamy but not in the over powering dairy way, just a nice puree with crab chunks (though it could use more crab). I also recommend the deviled eggs on the happy hour menu; their cheap and topped with bacon and crab meet! My boyfriend got the po-boy which had big fried oysters and a nice sauce, it was quite good! My meal at Catch 54 was a pleasant surprise and a nice deviation from the typical OC junk food. We came here on a Saturday night in early August - being a party of 6 we expected a wait, which in this case was an hour. We left our number and headed to the Mexican restaurant across the street (a good call by the way). Slightly under an hour later they texted us to say our table was ready. The menu is pretty straightforward, focusing on Seafood options for the most part. On this particular evening there was also a list of specials, which included "fresh catches" like Halibut, Salmon and Rockfish. A lot of the seafood options had similar preparation, being grilled and then dressed with a lobster butter sauce. My rock fish ($30) was a very generous portion, which was grilled very nicely, finished with the lobster sauce and plated with mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. Nothing really earth shattering about the pairing of mash potatoes and asparagus, but the rock fish was really delicious. Other people in my group also opted for some appetizers as well, such as the seafood chowder and the crab dip. The crab dip seemed to actually have blue crab in it, so that's a plus, but I didn't try the dish. The seafood chowder was good too; having a thickened tomato base that is slightly creamy but easier to eat than its cream based counterpart. The chowder had a nice mix of crab, bay scallop and shrimp. Everyone in my group seemed to enjoy their food, and we were thankful to find a meal with some sort of nutritional value and seafood that is actually fresh - a tall order in the greater OC area. Lastly, service was consistent even on a very busy Saturday night. I will definitely be back on my next beach visit. read more

I cannot figure out why this restaurant has a 3.5 star rating, other than Yelp's ridiculous "algorithm." Anywho ... I'm a frequent diner at Catch 54, especially in the off-season (too hard to get in during the summer!). The food is outstanding, using seasonal and locally-sourced ingredients. When you have talented chefs and fresh ingredients, as they do at Catch 54, you don't need heavy sauces, etc. The menu is dominated by fish entrees, as you might have figured by the restaurant's name. The service is attentive, although this can be a loud environment. The restaurant was completely re-done after a fire a year or so ago, so the decor is fresh and updated. The setting is right on the water, so if you're lucky, you can have a spectacular view with your meal. Overall, a delightful place to dine. read more

I've been coming to this place since it opened. This restaurant is capable of turning out awesome meals. Recently however, it has become very hit or miss. The kitchen has a tendency of over cooking main dishes. Not so great when it comes to seafood. The service is always great, the kitchen needs to raise the bar. My most recent visit was today, burger Tuesday. Both the mussels and the burger were very over cooked. The mussels were mushy and my medium burger was so dry it was falling apart. I felt bad for the bartender who comped the mussels and a beer to make up for the kitchen. read more

This place was a constant in my childhood. It changed a lot throughout the 10 years I had a house here (exterior, menu items, etc), but one thing never changed and that was the quality of the food! Really good seafood.and service with a view. Mrs. B. and I took in Catch 54 with one of our daughters and her husband on Sunday night (they picked). This restaurant rose to the top partly because they were among the few willing to take a reservation for our party of 4. It was easy to find but the parking is iffy. They have a small lot, and the cramped outdoor real estate around the marina also hosts other restaurants, so people had crammed their cars everywhere. Once in, they seated us quickly, and server Leanne was on us with a smile, talking specials and getting our drinks. Our window table on the second floor had a great view on the water (as did many). The room quickly filled up, and the noise level rose too, as the room is open and full of hard surfaces (amplifying the racket of the accompanied but unmonitored children at an adjacent table). Drinks were tasty, including my margarita with jalapeno salt. Warm bread (with sweetened butter) and apps came quickly, including peel-and-eat shrimp, crab dip, and "Delaware red crab chowder". Dip was better than most (so many restaurants take a half-swing at this), shrimp were large but just okay, and the chowder, though fresh tasting, was a blander version of good old Maryland crab soup. Entrees were uniformly excellent. Two of us had the fresh blackened Mahi special, one had the fresh Alaskan halibut special, and one had crab fettucine. Both fish dishes were very fresh and expertly cooked, and came with asparagus spears and average mashed potatoes. We enjoyed our entrees completely, and there would be no room for dessert. Leanne did a fabulous and cheerful job taking care of us, despite the rowdy nearby kids. We enjoyed the view, the fresh entrees, and the service. Parking and noise level could be better, and our appetizers lacked zing. We would definitely visit again when in the area. read more

We took our moms here for Mothers Day lunch, the Sunday after Mothers Day. The food was delicious. I had the crab dip with kettle cooked chips - an appetizer basically, but it was the perfect choice for my lunch. I was not disappointed. The crab meat was not overloaded with cheese or seasonings, and I even had to pick a piece of shell out of my mouth a couple times - which to me is a good thing. My wife had the mussels in some sort of mustard sauce. She commented several times throughout her meal how good they were. When the mussels were gone, she began to snatch chips off my plate to sop up the mustard sauce. When I put a stop to that, she used some bread. I thought at one point she was going to lick the plate. My mom struggled just a little bit with the overall number of items on the menu to choose from. It was a simplified menu of a few apps, a few sandwich/salad options, and a few entrees. I took that to mean they focus on a few fresh seafood items and try to do it very well. My mom finally settled on a crab cake sandwich - without the bun. Halfway through her meal, she commented "this is the freshest, juiciest crab cake I have ever eaten." That speaks volumes as she often orders crab cakes when she goes out to eat. The only thing that seemed a little "off" to me, was the length of time to receive our food. We choose to go a week after Mothers Day for the specific reason of missing the crowds. When we arrived at about 1:30, the place was nearly deserted. It was close to 30 minutes before the food was delivered after it was ordered. It was well worth the wait, just seemed a long time for a couple lunches at a very slow time. Overall, another excellent restaurant in the SoDel Concepts group. We have been to 3 or 4 now and are always completely satisfied, and impressed. The atmosphere inside Catch 54 is simple and very comfortable. Beautiful views of the water. Overlooking Little Assawoman Bay in Fenwick Island, this long and narrow raised restaurant offers spectacular views of the water from almost every table. We started with fried baby lobster tails with a citrus teriyaki sauce. The tails were flash fried and tender. Our entrees were perfect as well, scallops on a bed of corn grits and grilled asparagus and baked crabcakes on a corn relish. We rounded out the evening with some Key Lime Pie and Apple Cobbler. Have visited Catch 54 each of the last two years while vacationing in Ocean City, MD from Phoenix. I go exclusively for the Buck-a-shuck oyster happy hour, which cannot be beat. Fresh, delicious, local oysters at a great price. The staff are exceedingly friendly- from the manager Loren to the bartender and the shucker. Had a great time there with my dad eating oysters and drinking great local beer- can't wait until next July when I can eat here again. Have to beat my record of 60 oysters at one sitting. This used to be my happy place. I'm an oyster and seafood lover, and it's my favorite part about going to the Delaware shore. I've been cooling on this place because it seemed to be becoming less upscale (offering mostly fried fare where fried fare is already the primary offering). Their happy hour is what kept me coming back. As I mentioned, I'm an oyster lover and can't resist a buck a shuck. It took 55 minutes and asking two more times before we had our oysters. Due to social distancing, the bartender was more of our server, but after he took our order we didn't see him again (we asked the other bartender for a check after trying to get anyone's attention for over half an hour). Our oysters were full of shells, and we weren't given utensils, making the wait even less worth it. The other bartender visited the two other high top tables multiple times without stopping to check in on us, and they received food almost immediately after ordering. In the hour and 15 minutes we were there, they had two orders of shrimp, an order of oysters, three rounds of drinks, and we sat there trying to make eye contact and get their attention. I know the world is changing, but I'm not willing to shout, "HEY! OVER HERE!" Across a bar with two bartenders for 11 total people and four total parties. By the time we got our oysters, we were so mad that we just decided to ask for our check and go elsewhere, but by that time, happy hour in the Bethany-OCMD-Fenwick corridor was over. This was our second super long wait and disappointing happy hour experience two summers in a row, so we were less forgiving of the situation. We're from DC and have experienced plenty of pleasant COVID dining/happy hour/take out experiences, so we know it can be done. This place really needs to shape up. We'll be finding a new happy hour spot for oysters with a view. Not worth the aggravation. read more

good food, small-ish portions. we got 2 buttermilk jumbo shrimp, and 1 shaved brussels sprouts salad. the salad was great. the buttermilk shrimp were really good, but there weren't enough. i would have loved a few extra. there were a bunch of fries to fill up the plate. would be nice if you could substitute the fries for other sides like rice or baked potatoes. also i found an almost dead ant in my shirley temple, not sure how it ended up there. didn't really bother me though read more
