I think your owner should really rethink about what you're doing. Cheaping out will only stop people from coming back. You're charging people quite a bit, and that means u need to deliver, but you did not. We paid $200 for a meal we could have prepared better at home, so why did we come here? We ordered the New York Steak Medium Rare, more on the rare side. What came was a well done steak that's only about 1cm thick when it was supposed to be 1.5 inches. At $50 a steak this was extremely poorly done. You poured this gravy all over it ruining the steak. We can make steaks at our home 10 times better than this. The Boeuf Bourguignon was eatable, but too few pieces. The food was not photographable. The presentation was horrible. The service was great so I feel sorry for the waiters. We won't be coming back. One of your waiters keeps asking "How do you want your chicken or fish cooked, rare, medium rare, etc. . ." I always say well done for obvious reasons, but one time I ordered fish and it was raw in the middle. Please tell your whole staff, chefs especially, that if you don't cook poultry or fish thoroughly then someone could get Salmonella which can lead to food poisoning. Catch 2.0 is excellent. The food is a step for sure up from the former Catch. The atmosphere and service match the quality of the food.

We just happened by early on a very quiet Monday night, and I was initially alarmed because there were so few diners in the large restaurant. However, my hesitance soon changed when we learned that bottles of wine were half price. The four of us ordered just a few items from the menu--a fried calamari appetizer, then steamed mussels, and a halibut special. Everything was fresh and delicious. The restaurant has recently (?) been reimagined from a seafood establishment to a French bistro. However, the menu retained a number of dishes from the sea, and included classic French fare such as French onion soup. Regardless, it was a very nice dining experience. read more

Three of us made the mistake of having brunch here. The only thing "French" about this place is the name. The waitress tried to be helpful, but no one had ever taught her what a waitress is supposed to do. Somehow the food got to the table. I wish it hadn't. The French Onion Soup was cold and watery. The onion in the soup should be crisp and tasty, but these were just LIMP. The Croque Madame is a grilled ham or chicken sandwich with a fried egg on top. It was a total Disaster. Not crisp and toasty, just soggy. The fried egg was only partially cooked. The "chef" disguised this mess by pouring a thick gravy (?) over it. The Quiche Lorraine was an insult. It was a tiny slice of pie about 1 to 2 inches wide, and completely lost on the plate since it was buried in lettuce. Please save yourself indigestion and do NOT eat here! read more

Dependable high quality dinning. Its location near a MUNI line adds convenience. You can't go wrong with the catch of day often served with a delectable sauce. I went here today with a friend to try the replacement for previous Catch restaurant. I had the Mahi Mahi sandwich. It was delicious but the fish was quite small. Felt like I ate mostly bread. My friend had the salmon risotto which was good and from previous restaurant's menu. Service always excellent and was great to see staff from previous place. Next time will try dinner and see if it's good also. read more

It was Sunday night dinner time, so there were only four parties in the restaurant. We talked about the dessert options with the waitress and decided not to order any dessert. Lovely ambiance. Food was pretty good. Service-wise: our server disappeared after taking our order. Just never saw her again except to wave goodbye from behind the bar. I have been at Catch for many years, before they were Catch French Bistro. We would go there a lot because we love the food and the atmosphere. We have been there for New Years Eve on several occasions. This was the first time we were there for New Year's Eve under new ownership. Before Catch became Catch French Bistro they would keep the menu the same on New Year's Eve, and we loved that because they have an exquisite menu and you can order all your favorite without being limited 1 appetizer, 1 entree from a prix fixe menu. We would order up several appetizers, and more than1 entree per person to sample a variety of entrees from their delicious menu. The menu under the new ownership is very similar to the one under the old ownership but with a few more added items. When I made reservation for new year's eve this year, I assumed it would be the same menu, but they had a prix fixe menu, so I wasn't thrilled. But the prix fixe menu was my fault because I should have asked ahead of time instead of assumiming. When I made my reservation, I put down that it was my partner's birthday and asked to have inside seating. When we were seated and met our server, he was nice. I also told him that it was my partner's birthday, and he said Happy Birthday to my partner. So we ordered our 3 items per the prix fixe menu, the food was good like usual. So throughout the dinner, we saw other servers served up desserts with candles for other tables because someone at those tables were also celebrating a birthday, a whole bunch of servers got together at those table and had a small celebration for the person. Finally, our dessert came, but they only had 1 dessert which was for my partner, but there was absolutely no candles on the dessert, no birthday celebration from our server or any server. So I sat there without my dessert, until our server came back minutes later with my dessert. He did apologize. We were extremely disappointed that my partner did not get candles on the dessert so my partner can make birthday wish and blow out the candle. So why do a birthday celebration for some tables and not for everyone? I should not have to remind you again since I put it on my reservation and told the server when we were seated. In the past under the old ownership, when you put down birthday, they would have a little Happy Birthday card at your table, very simple that said Happy Birthday, that takes like 5 seconds to do, and candles on the dessert. So new owner of Catch, train your staff well, if someone has a birthday and they tell your server or put it on their dinner reservation, and you put candles on everyone who came to celebrate their birthday then DO IT FOR EVERYONE! Don't leave one table out because you just put a BIG damper into their dining experience. It's bad enough to have to wait till the last day of the year to have your birthday celebration. The restaurant was not even busy on New Year's Eve, so can't blame it on the restaurant being busy and forgetting the little gesture for everyone. While disappointed and not thrilled, we thanked our server, and left him a nice tip. Our server was nice, but he failed to recognize the simple and small gestures that would go along way with a customer. We left feeling like Catch do not deserve our business and we won't be coming to catch as often as we have in the past. The service under the new ownership has definitely declined significantly. We were there in September for our anniversary dinner and the service we got was just okay, nothing to rave home about. Do better Catch, otherwise you will start to lose your regular customers. read more

Excellent food. The black cod was tops. The French Onion soup was amazing. For the dessert the table had the banana flambé (OMG), the chocolate mousse (so light and tasty) and bread pudding (like a big hug). All in all excellent. Great service too. read more

I was disappointed that the original Catch closed, but happy that Catch French Bistro opened as it looked like a nice rework of the menu. All I can say is it's... very French. The wait staff couldn't be bothered to take my order in a timely manner, I had to go up to the bar to get my water refilled, and the quality of the food was on-par with "tourist food" in Paris. One of the original Catch's signature dishes was the mussels/frites with chorizo. This paled in comparison and the portions were tiny. We paid $150 for lunch. and wound up eating less that 1/2 of it. We were regulars at the original Catch, which closed about 6 months ago. It had always been a little pricey for the Castro but the food quality made it worth it. Now, the prices seem similar, but IMO the food isn't quite as good, even for similar dishes. Side note: given how much eating out has gone up, I was pleasantly surprised to see 2019 prices on their menu... My husband ordered the mushroom ravioli and a fish entree (sorry, I forgot which one). I ordered the truffle fries and Caesar Salad with salmon. He liked both his meals (but he always does), and my salmon was perfectly cooked. The truffles fries were limp, not crispy, and the salad part was just ok. I could've done a better Caesar at home. Food: 3.5/5 Our waiter was great. He seemed to be aware that they had to start all over, even for customers of the old Catch. He made our experience enjoyable. 5/5 Ambiance: It's exactly the same. This new restaurant in Castro on market Street has incredible food and service is also a great view. If you want to sit near the window, I went for lunch when the prices are more reasonable reservations for lunch or not necessary but for dinner you probably should get some. read more

Slow, rude service, many typos on the menu, mediocre food. This place is not long for this world. The old Catch was fine. This- not so much.

Nice revival of the space and good service but it's over priced. They need to have more specials.
