I ate here for my birthday. This restaurant is beautiful! I brought my family here and we all loved it. We are in the dining room. The service was top notch. The food was delicious. I'll be running back!

Service: 2 / Vibe: 4 / Food: 3 The inside is beautiful and the dim lighting definitely gives it a cool vibe. I had the rotisserie chicken which was good but I wouldn't say it was anything to rave about or order again. The service was truly that of a glacier pace. We went for a 6pm reservation and didn't get out until 9:30 [on a Monday] where we nearly had to beg for the check. Truly when the waiter dropped the check he tried to walk away and I had to say "here's the card" because I couldn't risk him walking away and waiting another 30 minutes for his return. I'd consider going back for the interior decor but otherwise, definitely a pass.

The atmosphere at Cathedrale was pure perfection for celebrating my wife's birthday and Valentines Day. Food was creative and delicious, but I have to start by giving a shout out to the service. From the moment we entered, the entire staff was warm, welcoming and enthusiastic attentive. The interior at Cathedrale was also very warm and intimate with a strong nod to Parisian style. For starters we ordered Yellowfin Tuna Cru which was extremely fresh and tasty. The complimentary bread and butter were appreciated and my wife raved about the butter to the point of eating it without the bread. For entree's my wife enjoyed a lobster pasta dish while I had their signature truffle fettuccine. Both were delicious and quickly devoured. Before parting, they presented my wife with a birthday ice cream cupcake dessert We've had this restaurant on our list ever since we heard Tao Group opened a French restaurant in the lower east side. Lived up to the hype and expectations.

We went here for our anniversary and it was absolutely amazing! Loved the ambiance! We started with martinis at the bar with Alberto and they were ice cold and perfect! Our gorgeous girl sat us at the best table overlooking the rest of the restaurant and our waiter Patrick was a pro with all the right suggestions. Food was off the chart and Liam made it perfect with three incredible desserts! I recommend this place to anyone that loves class!

Cathedral Raul is a bit of a mixed bag, but still a solid spot overall--especially for special occasions. The ambience is easily the highlight. The decor is stunning, and the atmosphere feels elevated and perfect for a birthday dinner or gathering with a group. It really sets the tone for a memorable night out. That said, the food didn't quite live up to expectations. It was generally pretty mediocre, lacking the flavor and quality you'd hope for at this price point. Speaking of which, the pricing felt quite steep for what you actually get--ambience alone doesn't fully justify it. Service was also a bit underwhelming and didn't match the high-end feel of the venue. I could've overlooked that if the food had been phenomenal, but unfortunately that wasn't the case. Overall, it's still a good spot if you're going for the vibe and celebrating something with a group--but just manage your expectations when it comes to the food and service.

Came here for Galentines Day with my friend and we had a great time! Our server was so patient with us even though we took so much time getting pictures, and chatting. We were probably at the table for three hours but they didn't rush us out at all. The halibut was excellent, the burrata with the charred veggies were so fragrant. The soufflé was also quite light and delicious. Very romantic place, perfect for Valentines Day!

From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the beautiful location and the highly attentive host. Since we were waiting for the rest of our party, we grabbed a seat at the bar, where we were greeted by our bartender, Juan. He was incredibly helpful, explained all of our options, and encouraged us to check out the happy hour menu while we waited.Everything we tried was fantastic. I started with the Pomegranate Spritz, which was absolutely delicious. Juan also walked us through the small bites menu, leading us to order the tuna tartare and the lobster roll. The tartare was incredibly fresh, paired perfectly with crispy chips, and the lobster was wonderfully succulent. At Juan's suggestion, we also tried the heirloom tomato toast, which turned out to be the absolute highlight of the night--the tomatoes were bursting with fresh, tangy flavor.Because the bar service was so exceptional, we decided to skip the dining table and stay at the bar for the rest of our evening. For our next course, we ordered the frisée aux lardons and the Plateau du Marché; both were delicious and very generously portioned. For our main entrees, we chose the Stripped Bass and the Rotisserie Chicken à la Moutarde with chanterelle mushrooms and shoestring fries. Both dishes were perfectly cooked and beautifully seasoned.Throughout the night, we kept ordering drinks, which were consistently refreshing. We ended on a sweet note with the crème brûlée and the chocolate profiteroles for dessert, alongside a final, beautifully balanced cosmopolitan.Juan truly made our evening fun. He kept us updated on our food, made sure we knew all of our options, and even told us about their app. He is a phenomenal bartender and an absolute keeper. I will definitely be back!

Overhyped and average factory restaurant. Had a meh Thanksgiving dinner here and the staff could give no f#*ks. Seated 40 minutes after our reservation. Stood by a sad lettuce buffet. Ordered ribeye... it's 86'd... now it's not... ok, you get ribeye. Food runners didn't know who ordered what, so it's like Denny's "who got the pasta?" And everything officious and slow. Asked for water like 8 times. Had dessert which was nice. Mostly they were pretty but chocolate mousse looked like poo. TLDR: $600+ for 4 people with no alcohol was waaaay more than this lame place was worth. Avoid.

Had dinner here while visiting NYC last week. Club-like atmosphere which I wouldn't think is everyone's cup of tea. Very loud and busy. We had reservations at 7:15pm and were running late because of our uber and traffic but that didn't seem to matter as we still had to wait about 20 minutes for our table. We ordered the Potato Chip Omelette, Black Truffle Fettuccine, and Lamb Chops. All tasted great! Service was wonderful!

Went to Cathedrale on a Saturday night and was pleasantly surprised! I'd heard mixed things, but my experience was great. Started with drinks and some the bread service was incredible, the French butter was divine (wish they gave more bread) Tried the yellowfin tuna cru, octopus, and the omelette with caviar and chips, all were great! The squid ink rigatoni with lobster was my favorite , so rich and delicious. The truffle pasta was a little bland, but dessert made up for it , the crème brûlée was perfect. Service was quick and efficient thanks to our server Alexandra , and everything came out smoothly. Overall, a lovely dinner.

I had Cathédrale on my list for years, and I had been in the vicinity several times in that time span, but I never made a point to stop in. While looking through my list for a spot on short notice, the name popped up and I made a reservation on one of my nights off. I figured the restaurant's longevity was a good indicator that it still merited a visit. When I arrived the place was pretty busy. As a result, my table wasn't quite ready. So I grabbed a drink at the bar, the "Saint-Tropez" (Hennessey VS, Lime, Melon, Mint, Ginger Beer). Normally I'm not a "Hennessey-Type-Guy" but I was feeling vacation vibes, so I rolled with it and it tasted great. I was solo dining and there was plenty of bar seating, but I elected to take a small table to myself. The two-person tables are a little close to each other (close enough to hear full conversations), but I was surrounded by pleasant NYers and travelers/tourists. I went in dressed up for the experience, and the staff looked sharp too, but don't be surprised to see touristy looking guests in casual attire on your visit. Anyways, once I got to the table and had a moment to take a good look around, I felt that the expansiveness you feel in the pictures didn't exactly translate to the in-person feel. Though it didn't feel cavernous, the decor and atmosphere were still pleasant. If you're seated at the tables near the entry point to the dining room, you will have the bar/vestibule area to your back, without a full barrier. Some people might feel a little apprehensive about sitting there because of it. So keep that in mind if you're security conscious. Regarding the food, I started with the potato chip omelette (Egg omelette, with white sturgeon caviar and chips). I was honestly hoping for some flavor, other than the ordinary, in the egg omelette, but it tasted like a regular solid omelette you make at home with a little salt. However, the chips, caviar, and crème fraîche, combined with some egg did taste good. It's a little heavy as a starter on a solo trip, but if your party is two or more, it might still make sense. That was followed up by their filet mignon with a side of sautèed spinach. This was the star of the meal! Great flavor in the crust of the meat, was well as in the sauce. I recommend it! In fact, it was ordered by patrons on either side of me as well. So there might be something to it! While I was enjoying the filet mignon, I ordered a glass of the Bordeaux Blend on the menu. Unfortunately, they were out. That Cabernet blend was a solid substitute though, and the sommelier came to me directly to discuss the substitution options (which was greatly appreciated). For dessert I can't remember the exact name of the dish, but it was essentially cake with strawberries on the side. I know that sounds simple, but it was very good and coincidentally, a great choice for me because I love strawberries among other things. I paired dessert with one last drink, the "Sgroppino," which, as promised, was prepared table-side. The guests at my neighboring tables and I were captivated by the show. The gentleman preparing the drink was actually Greek and we had a nice side convo about the origin of my name, a foundation for a good memory of the restaurant. The drink itself, made with Sorento lemon sorbet, Absolut Elyx vodka and Blanc De Blancs, was cool and refreshing, perfect for summer! I strongly recommend that as well. All in all, it was a solid dining experience. There weren't any grave or egregious errors and therefore nothing that would make me detract a star from my review. I think the place is worth the trip and currently they have a three-course, Pris-Fixe, menu deal for $60.oo. If you use the Tao Group app, you can potentially score another 25% off of your bill as well. So there are PLENTY of reasons to make a stop in. Special shout out to my dining team, which included Nicola, Natalie, Faith and Constantine. They were kind and warm throughout the dinner service. Hopefully, you get a chance to dine with them as well!

Came to celebrate a birthday and it happened to be restaurant week menu. Two of us wanted it and two of us didn't. Unfortunately every member of the party has to participate so we went with it. $60 menu. Since we were in 4 we tried almost everything. There were 4 appetizers so we tried them all, and 4 desserts so we also tried all of those. I'll mention entrees after. First the appetizers. Absolutely... pathetic. One of them came a tier of salami, carrot slaw, and radishes with a curl of butter on top. So strange. The second was an artichoke salad that I didn't care for and be careful eating it because I cut my mouth from an outer piece being in it. The third was like a puff pastry with cheese inside that was eh and the last was a spinach with egg whites, egg yolks and beets all separate in the plate. personally, I didn't care for any of them. Entrees: I got basically a fancy fish and chips. The fish was sole and rhetorical fries were good. The beef bourguignon was good and the duck was good as well. Dessert: the pear one was good, I didn't love chocolate and cherry one but that's personal preference, the rice pudding was ok, and the Mille-feuille I didn't like. The service was fine and the place inside is pretty. I think the appetizers just kind of shocked me. I won't be back but worth a try from the regular menu I think

Hands down the best happy hour in NYC ! The $ 5 bar bites were exceptional. The didn't compromise on the quality of ingredients or taste or presentation just because it was $5. Our bar tender was a joy to talk to.The happy hour can be availed only at the bar. There are 3 areas to the restaurant. The gadern area ,the bar & formal dining room . All areas are visually stunning .

    Is this place kid friendly?

Hello, with the atmosphere I would not recommend kids for this place

Can I bring my own cake if I have a birthday?

I think it's best to call the restaurant. Most case they May charge you a cutting cake fee.

Could it be parked on the street?

There is street parking.. just have to be sure to read the parking signs. It's a pretty busy area so depending on the time of day the parking can be quite challenging.

Is your patio dining (not curbside or sidewalk) a true open-air outdoor dining set-up for a colder season (like now)? And do you have heaters in the patio?

    Is brunch Good for toddler?

I wouldn't recommend this restaurant for a toddler, because it's more of a fine dining establishment. However, when celebrating a birthday, I'm sure bringing the toddler along would be just fine.

    Tao Downtown, Lavo or Cathedrale?

    Tao downtown

    Are kids allowed?

Yes, I don't see kids being a problem here.

    What's the dress code?

    Smart casual.

    Is dress code mandatory?

    It's not mandatory, it's optional

Is the restaurant loud (ie: are they playing loud music)?

A little too loud for us but just didn't like the music choices

Although I would've preferred to have been seated away from a family with 3 loud, ill-behaved kids, it was still a nice cozy table. On our table we found a nice Happy Anniversary card, which was very sweet! Our server Selma L. greeted us warmly and with a smile. Selma L. was very knowledgeable and helpful with the menu and remained very available and checked in on us often throughout our meal. I knew I wanted the Escargots en Persillade(my favorites!), and we paired them with Mushroom&Ricotta ravioli, and the Branzino. Every dish was perfectly paired with sauces and flavors blended well together. The Branzino skin was perfectly crispy, the potatoes were a little softer than I'd personally like but were still tasty. We made sure to save room for dessert and I'm so glad we did. We tried the chocolate lava cake and the cheesecake and were gifted two glasses of dessert wine and truffles. Everything is made from scratch, in-house. The New York cheesecake stood out ahead of the lava cake but I would order both again. This restaurant is perfectly situated to accommodate you for a pre-show dinner, and offer discounted meals starting at 8pm-close. We'd definitely return to try other menu items, and enjoy another date night, albeit not surrounded by kids!!!

We had the mussels for an appetizer, lamb chops and bass. EVERYTHING was excellent! The flavor of the broth for the mussels was Devine, so much so my husband used his bread to sop up all he could. The bass had great flavor and came with sautéed spinach that was well cooked. It initially looked like a small portion but turned out to be plenty. The lamb chops were cooked to the requested temp and seasoned well. We left no crumbs. This one is definitely worth a try!

This space felt larger than the other locations I've been to, while still keeping the same cozy, charming, and beautiful vibe that defines their brand. We were a party of three, and each of us ordered different sandwiches and pastries. I got the Katie's Chicken Sandwich, which is one of my absolute favorites and something I order almost every time I'm visiting the city. For pastry, I tried the Cherry Croissant Cube for the first time, and I was honestly speechless. It was incredibly flavorful, delicious, and truly made my day. I 100% recommend trying it. For drinks, I ordered the seasonal Cherry Elderflower Spritz. It was just okay compared to everything else, but not bad. Overall, Maman continues to be my go-to brunch place in NYC, and this visit reminded me exactly why.

Unnecessary confrontation over a 5-minute early pickup…read more I'm a regular Too Good To Go customer and have picked up bags from Maman before without issue. This visit was a frustrating exception. The app activated the swipe button shortly after 5PM -- which Maman and several other stores have recently started allowing as an early pickup signal. I went to the store accordingly. The young male Hispanic employee at the register refused to hand over my bag, insisting the pickup window didn't start until 5:15. All the bags were already packed and ready. There were no other customers in line. I tried to explain how the app works and that early pickup had been allowed here before, but he repeatedly cut me off. At one point I said "if you want to play by the book, so be it" -- meaning it as a neutral acknowledgment. He took offense, raised his voice, and kept repeating "I don't play, you play" in an increasingly hostile tone. I asked if he understood the expression. He just kept repeating "I don't play." When I asked to speak with a manager, he said there wasn't one. When I asked what a customer is supposed to do when there's a problem with an employee, he told me to come back tomorrow and talk to him. This was completely avoidable. The bags were ready. It was a 5-10 minute window, allowed by the app. The confrontation served no purpose. I noticed the review posted the day before mine mentions "poor customer service at the register" -- I suspect we encountered the same person. Maman has a good reputation worth protecting. I'd encourage management to review this interaction and make sure this particular staff is trained properly.

I was back…read morevisiting my old stomping grounds and wanted somewhere outside with a real neighborhood feel and this spot nailed it. I snagged a seat on their upstairs patio, surrounded by the kind of older, well-heeled UES regulars that give the place such a quintessential NYC vibe. I went with the $35 lunch special, which gets you an appetizer and an entrée. For my app, the Escargots de Bourgogne- absolutely the star of the meal, I could've eaten a second order. The Crêpe Forestière for my entrée was lovely too, and I washed it all down with a lemonade. Everything was genuinely delicious. My one small gripe: I got charged for two lemonades, which stung a little given that (a) it's lemonade, and (b) the glass was on the petite side to begin with. Minor quibble, though. Other than that, it was a perfect NYC lunch, exactly what I was hoping for.

While the French Onion soup was still a stand-out dish, the painfully slow service detracted. There appeared to be a single waitress working. I didn't notice during my first visit if there were multiple servers, but the first time I did hear the waiter advise another table that the kitchen was behind and there would be a wait for food. (This didn't affect me since on my first visit I only ordered soup.) Same thing happened this time, and there was a significant delay between our soup/salad course and entrees. We were told the kitchen was backed up. this is apparently the norm. For appetizers, the French onion soup was a gold star dish. My friend had the goat cheese salad which she said was also very good. The Chicken Cordon Bleu was good, and a hard-to-find dish in NYC. While eating our entrees, the server never checked on how things were or if we needed anything. Once finished, we sat there for a long time waiting for our plates to be cleared, and finally had to "announce" that we were done and request our dessert (as we had ordered the prix fixe menu). For dessert we ordered the Dame Blanche and Profiteroles. I would recommend neither. The ice cream (in both) was poor quality, crystallized and not creamy. A real shame. In all, the meal too 2.5 hours due to the slow service. The soup remains fantastic. I'm downgrading my review to recommend this spot only for soup and salad and not a full, hours-long meal. For that, it's 5 stars, for a full meal a middling 3.
