Older crowd here and newer and cleaner than the other Cathay in North Quincy. Meat raffle and karaoke, seems like one or the other is going on all the time. Chicken wings and mai tais are the best around. There's a buffet a couple times a week. There's always somewhere to sit even if the bar is full. I go here too often so it must be good. read more

My parents came to visit my family for New Years Eve (2012 turning to 2013) and brought some Chinese food from this place. My wife and kids and I love Chinese food and we have tried a lot of different places over the years and this was clearly the worst. The egg foo yung was so bad that I took one bite and spit it out. I put it down in front of my dog, who eats anything. He wolfs down dry dog food like he can't get enough. He sniffed the egg foo yung, hesitated, took one reluctant lick and then looked at me as if to say, "I'm not eating that. Ya got anything else?" The fried rice was dry and flavorless. The chicken lo mein was decent (about a 7 on a scale of 1 to 10) and was the most edible item which explains why it disappeared fast. The chicken fingers were dry, stringy and tough. The beef terryaki was fatty, chewy and had an unpleasant flavor. I was told that the pork strips and the crab rangoon were "just ok". I had lost my appetite for Chinese food before I could try them and ended up sneaking a few slices of the pizza we bought earlier. Somebody has to be the worst... and the second worst Chinese restaurant on the South Shore can be thankful for this place. I am very skeptical of those who gave this place a high rating. While it's possible we caught them on a bad night (perhaps their regular chef was not on-duty) I think more likely those are phony reviews made by the owners and/or their friends and family. read more

If I were to play word association with the Cathay Center, the first word that comes to mind is garbage. I gave this place two chances, once for the food the second for drinks. As far as the food is concerned, you're better off getting Chinese fast food from some low rent place in the mall- its guaranteed to taste better than what the Cathay Center serves. The food is garbage. Second chance, a night out for drinks and karaoke. I ordered a vodka soda and a water. The water was red. I don't know the last time their tap lines were cleaned, but judging by my red water, I'm guessing it's been a while. I left before finishing my drink. Garbage. Far worse than the quality of their food and drinks, are the waitstaff. They are rude, slow, and generally miserable people. Despite my red water and crappy service, I generously tipped (25%), yet the garbage waitstaff still felt it necessary to be vulgar to me. Don't go to the Cathay Center, there are so many better options. read more

Well I had the illustrious Restaurant.com gift certificate, but the food was 50% okay, the two more expensive dishes we got were what ended up being the bathroom shuffle meals. Automatic 18% tip added, wtf, never going back to this pit, also menu had hairs in it, server was nice but annoying? Kept coming over every minute to ask if everything was okay, I think it was to distract us from eating the steak dish that had some kind of ketchup on it, that was the Hong Kong steak. Service was great; but food was sub par. Seafood (scallops and lobster) tasted funny. I actually spit out my one bite of lobster and threw the rest away. Can't hate on the good ole Cathay Center. Came here over the holidays to meet up with old friends, and the drinks are still good and karaoke is still pumping! I've eaten here before a few times, and the food is always pretty tasty, but just your standard Americanized Chinese food. I always try to order the Buffalo Crab Rangoons though, they are soo yummy! Last time I had them, they were extra spicy too so I had to dip in duck sauce. I love a good Strawberry Daquiri here too. read more

I love the Cathay center! They do karaoke everyday so that's always fun! Paul is a fun kj and he's there fri and sat. I don't eat the food much but when I do it's always good. Our service is always fast. Kim is a great server/bartender. All the staff are friendly. The owner suzi is so sweet. She's always accommodating. I feel like everyone knows everyone at this bar and are pretty friendly. Every so often something washed up comes in but I've seen them shut people off and kick people out plenty of times. We even had my cousins surprise 21st b day in the function room. It was great. There was about 30 of us and it was so comfortable. Service was fast and good was good. We had a great time. read more

Went there tonight with low expectations after reading some other poor reviews on yelp and other sites. I've got to say the food was much better than all of the other chinese restaurants in the area. We got a family meal for $31.95 which includes a large pu pu platter, large pork fried rice, and large chicken lo mein. Food was fresh and hot. Kim was our server and she was attentive and an excellent waitress. I had a $25 gift cert. I got for free from mycokerewards.com so we got $40+ of food and sodas for only $17.75 plus an 18% gratuity was added per the gift cert. rules. Great value, great food, great service. I tipped above the mandatory because as I said Kim was actually a great waitress despite what I had read prior to going there. I wish my husband and I didn't get our signals crossed before we ordered. We were really hungry and just drove in to give it a try. The place was in total chaos, Mother's Day and I guess they were a little busy. The thing is they were pushing the "Buffet" so we figured why not. The food was old, no getting around it. It was a total mistake, if I had checked it out we would have left. The buffet was small, tucked in a corner. Everything was dried up. We should have not eaten and just paid the drink bill, but the drinks didn't come until we had hit the food. The worse part is, I barely made it home before rushing to the bathroom. I had a very bad experience in the parking lot with one of the restaurant owners who almost hit my car that was parked legally in the handicapped spot. He yelled out profanities at me and asked me how I got a handicapped placard. The owner squeezed into my handicapped spot to unload his caravan full of live lobsters . I will never go back to this restaurant especially being harassed because I parked in a handicapped spot with my mother who is handicapped. I never received an apology from the other owner that was outside at the time. I was once a regular at this place, they will never see me back with my mother. read more

Aside from finding a hypodermic needle outside of the bar, it wasn't the worst experience in the world. Food was eh. My one major complaint is that everything in there is, well, sticky... really sticky. Before leaving the nice waitress was kind enough to help me pry my sleeve from the counter top and only minimal damage was dealt to the shirt. Our friends brought us here to thank us for taking photographs of their son; they had a restaurant.com deal as well so we ordered $100 worth of food. We came home with more leftovers split between us than I've ever ordered on my own - it ALL tasted good and was a great value even without the gift certificate. Ken was our server and has always been our friends' server apparently - he's a little shy but gets you whatever you need promptly and seems very friendly when conversing. My only complaint would be the front counter wasn't tended to when we came in so it took several minutes to be seated and the bar staff that can see the front counter wanted nothing else except to watch football on TV. Even later on when I went to get a lottery ticket they were very slow to respond to an "excuse me" as he watched the TV walking backwards to me. Go for the great food, the peking ravioli was fantastic, the general's chicken was great and the entire pu pu was delicious (crab rangoons were a little on the greasy side but nice and crunchy) Would definitely go again read more
