In the past Cattleman's has been one of my all time favorite restaurants. Sadly our dinner this past Halloween Saturday night was less than average. For the price paid and expected quality we were disappointed. Steaks were undercooked, items weren't served and attentiveness of service was lacking. This is one of the best steak houses I've been to. They have great ribs (beef ribs are my favorite) and great steaks. That being said, I can't say the Prime rib was any good, it was a bit too chewy. We used Cattlemen's for our wedding rehearsal dinner. Gayla was very easy to work with, setting up our event. Cattlemen's had a ton of pre-made banquet menu's, but they were extremely flexible. My Fiance and I were able to hand pick several items off the menu that we liked, and Gayla put together a custom menu for us. We were seated in a separate seating room all to ourselves. All around, the food was excellent. Everything from the appetizers to dessert was delicious. I loved the rib eye, and everyone else loved their meals. We will definitely be going back to cattlemen's, and would recommend them for anyone trying to do a banquet meal. read more

First time coming here after my parents raved about how good it was the last time they came. We came as a party of 7 and it was a rough experience from the jump. There was trouble finding our party as we checked in for our reservation, then when we sat and ordered drinks and appetizers, it took a good 15 minutes for just our drinks to come, yet only half of them came at first. It seemed like every time we either ordered drinks or a refill, it took quite a while to receive them, leaving our party thirsty. After we had ordered it took at least an hour to receive our entrees, where either our sides were stone cold, or our proteins were cold (one of them was ordered medium rare, but it came raw, practically walked to the table on its own). We had asked for one of the entrees to be warmed up or something just to make it edible and it came back cold again! The server was quite rude when handling our situation, and her unpleasant comment toward one of the guests in our party was unprovoked (she had asked if they had ever cooked a steak before as if we were complete idiots). Definitely never coming back here again because it was a sh*t dinner that wasn't worth the money we paid. read more

Great Steak House. I suggest the "Cowboy RibEye". But the last time I ate at a Cattlemens, I had the Prime Rib, "Cattlemen's Cut". THey serve it to you on a sizzling hot platter & dipped in Au Jus. The Grilled bacon-wrapped shrimp as an appetizer is to die for and their twice baked potato is delicious. I also love the fact that they grill their steaks over an open flame, not on a griddle. I've eaten at the Dixon, Newark and Livermore locations and I rave about Cattlemen's anytime someone asks for a good Steak House. read more

Food is always great! Beef ribs comes in huge portions, and my new favorite cowboy steak with bone in cooked medium is perfect ! Complimentary sour dough bread is always fresh and hot. The service on the other hand is always a HIT OR MISS thing. Some waiters are excellent, they come back check on your drinks, refill, ask if you need anything else? Those kinds of waiters are the best. I hate the ones your have to track down, when your dying for water or a refill or just want your check and a couple togo boxes.. well I got the waitress from hell friday night. The last time I saw her was when she gave us our meals, after that she never checked on us, I needed a refill on my soda , and I couldn't find her.. After looking and looking I had to stop a waiter that want even ours for a drink , then when it Was time to pay we waited another 20 mins for our check and togo boxes..we sat there and waited and waited just to pay.. At this point the service out weighed the food and I won't be coming back ! Sad because if they hired decent servers they would be a really great restaurant. The food is great! Really bad experience here! And in with our 6 week old daughter and our toddler. Restaurant was completely dead and the kid host would not seat us where we could keep the baby in her stroller (as she was sleeping). Said he needed to seat us in a specific waitresses section because she was next. When I told him I needed one of the 10+ tables that would accommodate my stroller...he said I would need to just take her out and hold her in a booth. Then, as I'm explaining to the manager why we are leaving - he stands next to him rolling his eyes and making comments about us. Although the General Manager was truly trying to keep us there - the 5 hostesses/host that we're standing there talking about us made it easy to walk out. We are new to the area and we're excited to have a place to potentially go...will never go back after this interaction. It's a shame that every interaction is a chance to either earn a new customer/family or lose the business going forward. I will wrap it up with recognition for the GM as she did really try to retain us and seemed very genuine. I was certainly not going to trust eating food put out by this group of disrespectful teens though. Just beware and don't go with infants. read more

This past weekend i headed to Cattlemens for dinner and my experience was great. I made reservation for 8:30 ad arrived at 8:00. They quickly gave me a restaurant pager and i headed to the bar side. Ordered some artichoke cheese dip and it came out pretty good. By 8:30 my pager rang and we headed to are table. Ordered a nice cut of fillet minion and also came out pretty good. The best part of my experience here was my server Dan. What a genuine good dude that really takes care of you! So yesterday was the second time I've visited Cattlemens and I've gotta say, I'm pretty impressed. On my first visit, I felt kinda bad for them. MY WHOLE FAMILY WENT OUT TO EAT TOGETHER. There was like, hold up, let me count, there were seventeen of us. And we're pretty much as loud and hungry as Toula's family from My Big Fat Greek Wedding. No joke. My aunt had made reservations. Everyone got there with about 5 mins to spare. They let us know that they were putting us in the or a banquet room, idk if there's more than one, the place is GINORMOUS! Anyway, we didn't have to wait long at all. When we sat down, they had already had waters out on the table for us. I love that. I think it's what good and SMART servers do. I was in the restaurant game for just shy of a decade. They comped two sampler appetizers for us because we had to wait for 5-10 mins. Wth?? That was awesome. We weren't even complaining. And it was really no problem at all. After all, it takes time to put together a big table like that; there were 17 of us. The sampler was great, I was bummed that I was too slow to get some of the fried zucchini. I love zucchini. I had a chicken strip, which was de-lish and a mozzarella stick, it coulda been a triangle though, either shape, you can't go wrong with fried cheese. I had my fill of the salad and was still kinda stuffed from Thanksgiving which was the night before. For my meal, I only had the side of sauteed mushrooms, but I had no complaints. They mushrooms were amazing. Now, I'm not the typical Cattlemens patron, I don't eat steak. I imagine at a steakhouse, that's what people go in for. I don't know about ribs, but the ribs two of my cousins got looked hella good. Everyone was laughing when the server brought the ribs out, they were huge! You woulda thought Fred Flintstone was there and ordered a rack of Brontasaurus ribs. Haha. I liked that after our meal, the manager came over personally to check on us. In case you can't tell from my other reviews, I'm all about customer service. Last night was my 2nd visit. This time, only four of us. I had the spinach ravioli. My BF's stepdad, Eric, asked the waiter how the ravioli were, and the waiter was so cute. Above all else, I appreciate honesty, he revealed, "I honestly don't know, I really don't get too many people who order it." I guess in a badass steakhouse that could suffice even Fred Flintstone's appetite, you don't get a lot of people who don't dig beef or pork. I told Eric I would share with him since he was on the fence and wanted crab. And I wanted to snag a bite of some of his crab. I mixed in the crab with my marinara sauce and thought I was a genius. Even the grilled slice of Texas toast that came with my meal was really tasty. The salad was nothing to sneeze at either. I love how they slice the red onion extra thin. Mmm. Needless to say after my very filling and rather large portion of ravioli, I didn't have room for dessert. Damn me! Why did I scarf everything down and not save room for that giant cookie with two scoops of vanilla ice cream atop? I've been going to this restaurant for many years. And in the many years that I've been going to this location and the now closed Newark location, there was rarely a time when I was let down. In the past 3 months, I've been to this restaurant 2 times and both times were very disappointing. About 3 months ago, I went to this location and ordered the usually great prime rib. The prime rib turned out to be dry. It had a different color than it normally did. Their were peices of fat that could easily be seen that I had never noticed before. Needless to say, it was not up to par with their normal steak or even a steak house like Texas Roadhouse or Outback. It was a busy night that night, and service was slow. They didn't remove dishes. They didn't clean the table after each course. Overall, a bad night. Last weekend, in hopes of them getting back on track, I went there again. It was last saturday night and it was a normal busy night. The prime rib my friend ordered was dry again. It had the same unappealing look it had the last time. Heavy coloring and thick peices of fat which made it look different and taste different than usual. The New York Strip I ordered was super dry. You could taste the extra charr the steak had on it as if the grill was never cleaned. The steak was tough and chewy. It didn't look like a high quality steak nor did it taste like one. My friend ordered a porterhouse and had the same problems I had with the New York. Unfortunately, he was too nice to have the waitress take the steak back and have it refired. I would like to see if they would have given him a better steak. He was so disappointed, he didn't even bother to eat it, he just played with it the whole night. We started with the coconut shrimp which was heavily fried on the outisde but was undercooked on the inside. Also, we had the tumbleweed onions which were fine because they were just deep fried thin/small onion strings. All in all, it was a disappointing night. Because of my long time loyalty to this restaurant, I will ultimately go back at some point (as long as they don't go out of business) but for now, I would not recommend them to anyone looking for a good steak experience. read more

My wife took me here for Fathers Day, having not been to a Cattleman's in quite sometime I had an expectation in mind and it was far exceeded. Food was excellent! We both got prime rib, it was cooked to perfection and a great proportion for the price! As part of being there for Fathers Day they gave me a card for a free return meal, awesome added value and my wife and I returned a few days later! We decided to give Cattlemens another try after a failure attempt three years ago. When we first walked in we went with good intentions. The waiter that we had was very nice. Always ready to help and quick to come to our table. Service was great! The downfall was the food.....we have had way better food than Cattlemens. The bread basket was good as well as the salad that comes out for everyone at the table. I love that about this resturant. The baked beans that came out with the meal were cold as well as the mashed potatoes. The steak was okay. All in all we could have had a way better meal if we skipped this resturant. I recently came to this location and had the best experience I have ever had at a restaurant. I came in for dinner with my fiancé and Morgan was our amazing server. She was very tentative and aware of our needs the entire meal. She was sweet and super friendly which made our dining experience that much more fun. I have been to Cattemens 5 times and I simply love their Cowboy Ribeye. I tried their Prime Rib in the past but I didn't like it as much as Cowboy Ribeye so I have been ordering Cowboy Ribeye since then. Since I felt like eating steak so I went there last night. Olivia, bartender, was one of the best bartenders/servers I have ever seen. She was fast, attentive and funny. Steak was as good as always and I couldn't complain. I guess one thing I can complain is that they serve too much salad and bread. I am one of those people who don't like to waste food so I felt guilty because I wasn't able to finish them. read more

This is an update to my 8.5.17 scathing review, which was warranted. We have been back twice since that fateful night and I have to say the food and service were up to the great standards we are accustomed to receiving. "Double A" (Aaron) was absolutely wonderful. Because of scheduling, we got to the restaurant an hour before our reservation and they couldn't squeeze us in, which was fine. We sat in the bar area and Aaron was our waiter and he could not have been better. He brought us our drinks and appetizers quickly and was extremely polite. The things that really did it for me were 1.) When I went to the bar to get a glass of water, he "intercepted" me and told me he would bring it to me. 2.) When we were almost finished with our meal in the main dining room, he came to our table and wanted to make sure we had a good dining experience and to see if there was anything else he could get for us - he wasn't even our waiter! That was excellent. As always, the food did not disappoint. The loaded skins, mashed potatoes and chocolate cake are worth driving out or your way for. In fact, we ended up getting 2 chocolate cakes to go because I know my daughter would eat one all by herself. The steaks are off-the-chart excellent. Everyone was so friendly and wonderful, which made it an outstanding dinner experience. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. Whenever we are any where near, we only go to this restaurant. To Cattlemen's Livermore: Thank you for another wonderful experience. Your food and employees are top notch. The true rating of this place is 4 stars, but with all of the negative reviews via the narcissistic folks who just don't understand what a steak place is all about, I just had to average things out a bit. 2. Folks, Cattlemens is a steakhouse... a Western / rustic style steakhouse. If you're looking to be pampered in a NY style steakhouse and sip some wine with your steak, please go to Morton's or Ruth Chris (both of which are great places as well). Admittedly I was a bit ahead of the dinner crowd as I was still on east coast time but was seated immediately and my server, Crystal, was right there for my drink order and offered the specials of the day. I'm on a low carb diet Crystal understood my needs. I got the Monday prime rib special with broccoli - both cooked perfectly ( and honestly broccoli is tricky).
