Italian classics served in large portions perfect for sharing! Located within its own huge parking lot, Frankie Johnnie & Luigi Too has made a place for those to break bread and call home. Equipped with large dining spaces and tables, your party of whatever size will be able to fit and have a great time. Their menu is loaded with heavy carbs like pizza, calzone, pasta and sandwiches as well as appetizers and salads. Everything is big enough to share especially for smaller parties but even larger parties will get a good helping for each member. We came for a birthday party and were able to get a taste of a few of their dishes. They were all delicious and pretty safe options to order for first timers. Bread with garlic butter - loaves of bread rolls sliced in hand sized portions with a side of their whipped garlic butter. The warmed bread was appetizing and the seemingly fresh garlic butter was perfect temperature for spreading. Fried Calamari - a known staple for an Italian dining experience. Although not spectacular as it lacked crisp but made up for it with its seasoning, the chewy bite sized slices perfectly paired with the two included dipping sauces (marinara and tartar). Meatballs - meaty morsels swimming in a tasty tomato sauce and topped with a small sprinkle of Parmesan cheese - you could add more from the table top shakers but I prefer the fresh stuff. Fried ravioli - these little poppers were tasty and visually reminded me of pizza rolls. They don't look like much on the big plate but the bite sized treats packed some good flavors inside. Pepperoni Pizza - good spread of pepperoni slices and plentiful in the cheese department. The pizza holds up well although slices don't seem to be cut uniformly. The dough has a nice bounce to it giving it a bit of a chew after crunching into the crust. I'd prefer a crispier exterior but it was still enjoyable. Tina's Too Much - this pizza is loaded with all the good stuff and packs quite a serving in each slice. It has a good balance of flavors and textures. Definitely a good choice to satisfy the omnivores of the group. As for drinks, they have beers and fountain drinks. Refills were not as frequent as I would have liked - there was at least one instance where I had to walk up to the fountain machine and ask the staff to top me off with water. However, when we were finished, the staff was generous in giving us boxes to take up the leftovers. Overall, Frankie Johnnie & Luigi Too is a family-friendly but also intimate place to gorge on Italian inspired cuisine. Pizzas are definitely the highlight but their other items do deserve a try. At reasonable prices, fair portions, and a space large enough to fit you and your loved ones, you'll find yourself dining in comfort here as if it was in your home. Food presentation could use an uplift but it's understood that it's not a priority when you come here to get your grub on. The food remains tasty, especially the penne calabrese and fettuccine portofino (see pics), and the cozy, quaint ambiance is always inviting. It was our last night at San Ramon visiting grandma. My family and I decided to head out for Italian food rather than our usual Chinese food. We were craving Italian food so we decided to give FJL a try. There's a big parking lot around the restaurant so parking wasn't an issue. Host was friendly and sat us right away. We were seated in the back dining area. We were given a special menu and the regular menu. Menu wasn't overwhelming to navigate and we reviewed it before we came. Started off with bread and butter. We are also given oil and vinegar. The bread was fresh and hot. Paired well with the homemade herb butter. The bread was toasted and soft in the inside. If you can't have dairy I'd suggest to try it with the oil and vinegar. We ordered the calamari fritti as an appetizer. The calamari wasn't chewy and tough. Very tender and lightly fried. It came with a horseradish sauce and tartar. Both complimented well with the calamari. Wasn't oily and you got all parts to enjoy. Definitely recommend 5/5. Main course was half portion of lasagna and spaghetti Bolognese with meatballs added. The lasagna was pretty good. Not salty and very meaty. The sauce was amazing and a bit watery but it does soak up midmeal. Authentic taste and the tomato sauce was delicious. 4.5/5 Meatballs were dense huge and definitely filling on top of the Bolognese sauce. Portion was pretty decent. 4/5 Tiramisu was for togo since I was full from dinner. Enjoyed it later in the evening but it just didn't taste like the regular tiramisu I normally have. No espresso taste and too bland and had a weird after taste. Not sure if I got an old slice but it didn't taste fresh. 2/5 Overall good meal and I would like to come back and try the pizzas. There's not too many of these old-school Italian eateries left in the East Bay, and what a treat to experience a family outing at Frankie Johnnie & Luigi Too. We were celebrating a big family birthday and were seated in the back room at a long table. Unfortunately staff was lean that night with several weekend call outs, but that didn't stop us from truly enjoying a great night out. The menu is stacked here, but my husband and I split the Caesar and a sausage/mushroom pizza. We also ordered for the kiddo a meatball and raviolis. The portions are super ample, and other members of our party ordered the lasagna, chicken cacciatore, and other pizza varieties. There's a full bar located in the center of the restaurant, and our table enjoyed cocktails including the old fashioned, mojito, and your typical house white and red wine. This is the type of restaurant that brings your meal out on carts, and wowee, did we have a few carts rolling :) One of the highlights for me is the warm bread and herbed butter served upon seating. There is something to be said about an Italian restaurant's bread, and theirs did what it needed to do..all happy kiddos at the table. We brought in dessert so I didn't take a look at the sweets, but we were pretty full by the time the end of the meal/evening was heading. I would come back for a casual pizza night with the family again, or date night with the hubby for a glass of wine, bowl of pasta, and to unwind. Seems like this spot is full of regulars, they were packed on a Saturday early evening. Local is good, parking can be hard but plenty of spots around the back of the restaurant. Ambiance is cozy, I always wish that it can be slightly brighter in lighting and take a slight renovation. Ambiance is family style and noise is just average. Very pleasant to hang out just to chit chat after finish eating. Lots of family gatherings and graduation parties. The Jambalaya is my favorite. My friend and i have been going to frankies for many years. Yesterday we wanted two checks The bartender told us in a very rude manner that they dont allow for separate checks. Ive paid that way for years when im with a friend. No p roblem. The women bartender told us thats not the policy. She rolled her eyes at me an with no friendliness at all proceded to tell me she is the owners daughter! I told myself if the owner was there he would never have teated us that rudely. Another satisfying dinner last night. My daughter inhaler her rigatoni with bolognese and sausage (make your own pasta). The sauce was very meaty and flavorful. The rigatoni was perfectly cooked and the remaining sauce was devoured with bread. The linguine and clams is one of our classic orders and was just as enjoyable as the first time. We also tried Johnny's Favorite pizza and I loved it! The pizza was piled high with chicken, olives, tomato, roast bell peppers, artichoke and ricotta cheese. My boyfriend thought the amount of ricotta was a tad much, but since I LOVE ricotta, it was a-ok for me. And...! I really liked the crust and I'm not usually a crust person. I have been coming here for years! It's a Thursday, the place is not busy at all. We ordered pizza for takeout. We asked if we could order drinks and eat there instead. Begrudgingly the manager said we could eat at the high tops, but I had a baby with me so I asked if we could sit at a regular table with a high chair. It's apparently against policy to order takeout and eat there... I could accept that, except I said I would order drinks! Come here a few times a year, food is great. This review is for this single experience. Went earlier this week for my birthday with some friends. The server was exceptional in his knowledge of the food and preparation, but his attitude was questionable when we decided to not pay a $1.50/person service fee for a box of cookies my gf brought, even though no dinnerware was required. (We decided to share them outside). Low and behold after reviewing the receipt later, he got us anyway by charging us for "extra bread". Mind you he did not mention at any time that there would be an extra charge for the otherwise complimentary bread, which would've been fine. I ordered a New York "thin" crust pizza and sure, it was somewhat thin in some areas, but as you ate towards the crust, the crust became thicker and thicker until I got to the gigantic dough ring, which reduced my workable pizza area from 14", to 12". While some may enjoy massive dough rings, (pizza bones) I prefer pizza to the edges, and order a side of bread. Which we did. Came with an extremely tasty marinara sauce for dipping. We absolutely love this place! the pasta is always delicious, super fresh, and truly something the whole family enjoys. Our kids devour it, we devour it, and we've even ordered catering for our events because it's that good. The only thing that keeps this from being a perfect experience every time is the inconsistency with the bread. Sometimes we get plenty, sometimes barely any, and it's honestly disappointing because the bread with their garlic butter is part of the whole magic. Unfortunately, my recent visit with a friend was disappointing due to an interaction with bartender Lauren. When we requested separate checks, the request was met in a manner that felt rude, dismissive, and condescending. Lauren informed us that separate checks were not permitted and stated that she was the manager and the owner's daughter. While I understand and respect the policy, the way it was communicated left us feeling unwelcome and uncomfortable. I want to emphasize that my concern is not with the policy itself, but with the lack of professionalism and courtesy in the interaction. A more respectful and customer-focused explanation would have made all the difference. This experience was very disappointing. I haven't been here in nearly 12 years. After a fairly dismal experience, we were reluctant to return. Tonight, one of my co-workers was retiring and this was the restaurant of choice. There were about 16 of us and we all arrived in separate vehicles. The Hostess was able to figure out which group I was joining and pointed me in the direction of the bar where I found two of my group. By the time I had washed my hands in the restroom, they were being led to a table so I simply followed them. Menus were handing out very quickly and my drink order was taken. As our party trickled in, their drink orders were also taken and delivered. Finally, as everyone was seated, our dinner orders were taken. Because we were seated at a couple of long tables placed end to end, I'm only going to talk about my food. I ordered: Wedge Salad - 5 - when it came, it was well chilled but presentation wise, would have aesthetically more pleasing on a smaller plate or a bowl. The salad itself was good as was the bacon. The tomatoes were so-so. Frutti di Mare - 5 - perfect linguine. excellent cook on all of the seafood except the calamari which were rubbery as they often are. "Still the fastest service on the planet" Ee visited the restaurant on an early Thursday, to celebrate our anniversary and Valentine's day. As usual, the staff was friendly and helpful. Special shout out to our server, Karen. She was friendly and especially helpful. On this visit we ordered the large pepperoni, thick crust pizza. Naturally, it's way too much for just the two of us to eat, but it was absolutely scrumptious.
