There's not too many of these old-school Italian eateries left in the East Bay, and what a treat to experience a family outing at Frankie Johnnie & Luigi Too. We were celebrating a big family birthday and were seated in the back room at a long table. Unfortunately staff was lean that night with several weekend call outs, but that didn't stop us from truly enjoying a great night out. The menu is stacked here, but my husband and I split the Caesar and a sausage/mushroom pizza. We also ordered for the kiddo a meatball and raviolis. The portions are super ample, and other members of our party ordered the lasagna, chicken cacciatore, and other pizza varieties. There's a full bar located in the center of the restaurant, and our table enjoyed cocktails including the old fashioned, mojito, and your typical house white and red wine. This is the type of restaurant that brings your meal out on carts, and wowee, did we have a few carts rolling :) One of the highlights for me is the warm bread and herbed butter served upon seating. There is something to be said about an Italian restaurant's bread, and theirs did what it needed to do..all happy kiddos at the table. We brought in dessert so I didn't take a look at the sweets, but we were pretty full by the time the end of the meal/evening was heading. I would come back for a casual pizza night with the family again, or date night with the hubby for a glass of wine, bowl of pasta, and to unwind. Seems like this spot is full of regulars, they were packed on a Saturday early evening. There is a parking lot which is nice (and starting to become hard to come by these days), and prices are fair for the portions served. read more

I have been here a couple times now and it's a nice local Italian spot. Recently the servers seemed a bit busy which forced us to wait on a few things, but the servers are always super nice! The food is pretty good but a bit pricey, and the cocktails were just okay. I recently had the prawn Alfredo and it was pretty good. read more

The ambience is nice. Service is very good. I had an espresso martini and it was good. The food was disappointing. We had a good size group and multiple items were ordered appetizers, pizza, pasta, etc.. I'll give them five stars for presentation, but the taste of the food was closer to two stars. The pizza seemed to be undercooked. The calamari was rubbery and some of the pasta and chicken dishes. Just didn't have a lot of flavor. read more

I have been here quite a lot of times throughout the last 15 years. This place has been in Dublin must be over 30 years. Local is good, parking can be hard but plenty of spots around the back of the restaurant. Ambiance is cozy, I always wish that it can be slightly brighter in lighting and take a slight renovation. Ambiance is family style and noise is just average. Very pleasant to hang out just to chit chat after finish eating. Lots of family gatherings and graduation parties. The Jambalaya is my favorite. Juat the right amount of sauce and seafood. Bread can be warmer and softer. Service was very attentive, could check on us slightly more often though. Will come again. read more

Another satisfying dinner last night. My daughter inhaler her rigatoni with bolognese and sausage (make your own pasta). The sauce was very meaty and flavorful. The rigatoni was perfectly cooked and the remaining sauce was devoured with bread. The linguine and clams is one of our classic orders and was just as enjoyable as the first time. We also tried Johnny's Favorite pizza and I loved it! The pizza was piled high with chicken, olives, tomato, roast bell peppers, artichoke and ricotta cheese. My boyfriend thought the amount of ricotta was a tad much, but since I LOVE ricotta, it was a-ok for me. And...! I really liked the crust and I'm not usually a crust person. Our server was awesome, and I wish I could remember his name, but shout out to him. I would say the only minor improvement that could be made would be to keep the calamari on for a little longer. read more

Come here a few times a year, food is great. This review is for this single experience. Went earlier this week for my birthday with some friends. The server was exceptional in his knowledge of the food and preparation, but his attitude was questionable when we decided to not pay a $1.50/person service fee for a box of cookies my gf brought, even though no dinnerware was required. (We decided to share them outside). Low and behold after reviewing the receipt later, he got us anyway by charging us for "extra bread". Mind you he did not mention at any time that there would be an extra charge for the otherwise complimentary bread, which would've been fine. That being said, this place is great, I'll still go back, I'll just refuse to sit with that server. read more

I hadn't been to FJ&L for a long time but went tonight. My favorite dish was ( and continues to be) the Rigatoni Spinachi. I had a great server tonight named Joe. Attentive and personable. The food did not disappoint and was a very generous serving. I'll eat the rest tomorrow for lunch! read more

The QUALITY is 10/10 the bread basket and butter, calamari, spruced up Caesar salad, and shrimp fettuccine were out of this word. The kitchen knows what they're doing!! The dinner and dessert we had was good as well, we ended up bringing the rest home the only complaint I had was our waitress, she seemed very overwhelmed with the three parties of at least 7-8 people that she was also waiting on, to where she seemed very annoyed with waiting on me and my friend. read more

I ordered a New York "thin" crust pizza and sure, it was somewhat thin in some areas, but as you ate towards the crust, the crust became thicker and thicker until I got to the gigantic dough ring, which reduced my workable pizza area from 14", to 12". While some may enjoy massive dough rings, (pizza bones) I prefer pizza to the edges, and order a side of bread. Which we did. Came with an extremely tasty marinara sauce for dipping. The pizza was great, but it was not as thin a crust as I was expecting. Still, very tasty. The service here was very good. Cool place, good food and perfect service. read more

We absolutely love this place! the pasta is always delicious, super fresh, and truly something the whole family enjoys. Our kids devour it, we devour it, and we've even ordered catering for our events because it's that good. The only thing that keeps this from being a perfect experience every time is the inconsistency with the bread. Sometimes we get plenty, sometimes barely any, and it's honestly disappointing because the bread with their garlic butter is part of the whole magic. When you love a restaurant and order consistently, you just want the experience to feel the same each time. Still great pasta...just hoping they can tighten up the bread game! read more

Such a classic, so happy still around! Mountain View location use to be my go to. Went to Dublin for the first time on my way to Rowell Ranch. Rocky my server was fun. Food was great for adults. Everyone was satisfied ! We have been coming here for over 20 years, they never disappoint with flavor. The server seemed stressed, even though she was the manager. At one point, she seemed to toss the requested plain butter on the table We were very sure to say thank you and please, when requesting things, however she seemed annoyed. Just had the Chicken Parmigiana with a side house salad and the price is absolutely ridiculous at $28 plus $10 for the two items. Definitely not worth $38 for this meal ... not even close. Their draft Peroni is cold and $7.50!!! Pizzas are also pretty decent but wow do they want to charge a lot ... bottom line, good local spot for fresh Italian food but if you're taking a family of 4, get ready to pay $200 after tip. We celebrated my bff's bday here with all of our families and we are so glad that they put us in a side room cuz we had the loudest kids ever! Loved their freshly baked house bread, tenderly fried calamari, and generously topped Stromboli pizza (shoutout to David N. for his review that led me to it.). The molten chocolate lava cake was ok, but not the best. You will definitely have leftovers if you dine here and get your own meal. I haven't been here in nearly 12 years. After a fairly dismal experience, we were reluctant to return. Tonight, one of my co-workers was retiring and this was the restaurant of choice. There were about 16 of us and we all arrived in separate vehicles. The Hostess was able to figure out which group I was joining and pointed me in the direction of the bar where I found two of my group. By the time I had washed my hands in the restroom, they were being led to a table so I simply followed them. Menus were handing out very quickly and my drink order was taken. As our party trickled in, their drink orders were also taken and delivered. Finally, as everyone was seated, our dinner orders were taken. Because we were seated at a couple of long tables placed end to end, I'm only going to talk about my food. I ordered: Wedge Salad - 5 - when it came, it was well chilled but presentation wise, would have aesthetically more pleasing on a smaller plate or a bowl. The salad itself was good as was the bacon. The tomatoes were so-so. Frutti di Mare - 5 - perfect linguine. excellent cook on all of the seafood except the calamari which were rubbery as they often are. But the flavors were excellent, hence the 5*'s. Overall, service was very good this time. Our server kept our drinks full. This is the level of service that would earn my repeat business. read more

"Still the fastest service on the planet" Ee visited the restaurant on an early Thursday, to celebrate our anniversary and Valentine's day. As usual, the staff was friendly and helpful. Special shout out to our server, Karen. She was friendly and especially helpful. On this visit we ordered the large pepperoni, thick crust pizza. Naturally, it's way too much for just the two of us to eat, but it was absolutely scrumptious. We always have a good time at this restaurant period the prices are reasonable and the service is top notch. Everything works fine for a handicap person. We were able to navigate my wife's wheelchair up the ramp to the table without any problem whatsoever. read more

First time visit 11:30a on. Saturday Tandy I was already packed , it's a good sign . Lasagna is average. Italian soda is awesomely good. Kids chicken strip and fries are HUGE. Taste is a personal thing and I like the atmosphere and the friendliness of the waiters, but it was not the best "Italian" I have visited. The pizza was a little bit boring, but the crust was ok. The ribs were the worst, no flavor. We probably won't be back, very disappointed. When my sister called to complain the person on the phone told her to add seasoning lol what? I am very impressed with the management and was contacted by Pam after my review and explained to her that the person on the phone that originally helped us was never rude and I do understand that a restaurants' staff can have off days. This place has been here for years!! We used to come here all the time for family events but I always found their dishes too saucy. Fast forward to today and I've gotta say, they've stepped it up. They only take reservations for parties 8 or more. There were only 4 of us so when we walked in, there was a short queue. I think we were 4th on the waitlist but it went by quickly because the restaurant has a lot of seating. It's a big restaurant! When we sat down, our hostess asked us if we wanted anything to drink. Shortly after, she returned to tell us that our waitress is busy because her section is full but she will come to take our order as soon as she could. That was thoughtful to let us know. We didn't wait too long but giving us a heads up was appreciated. We ordered: Meat ravioli with Alfredo Penne Calabrese Calamari - nice big crispy pieces Spaghetti Aglio Olio - too garlicky and tasted bitter and bland. I ended up adding a bit of olive oil and salt. I really want to like this place, because the food is good. Have eaten here a number of times, but unfortunately twice now we'd been seated and simply not waited on. No water... no bread... no one to take our order. The first time it happened we waited about half an hour and eventually flagged down a waiter. They were apologetic and it was a busy night, so I let it go. But tonight was fairly slow, with only 3 other tables in our area that had customers, and 2 waiters and 1 bus boy assigned to the area (it's the back room of the restaurant). Saw another family get their order taken and have their food delivered before we were ever acknowledged by anybody. So after 20 minutes or so we just got up and left, and no one even noticed. I'd normally give this a 1 star review, but I'm giving an extra star for the food, on the off chance you actually get to order some. read more

I came here with my coworkers for a holiday dinner on a Friday night. We had reservations for 6:30 PM; however, we all arrived by 6:20 PM. Our table was not ready, and we waited in the lobby for close to 30 minutes. Once seated, we were promptly given our menus and drink orders taken. Our food orders were not taken until 7:30 PM. Our food came out at the same time, and we were all able to eat together. I ordered linguine with clams, and it was ok. Some of the dish had noodles were dried out. I can only associate this with the noodles sitting out for a while in order to ensure that all the dishes can be served at the same time. Unfortunately, when noodles dry out, they get hard. The upside of this dish is the size - it was very large for the price. Minus one star for the wait time for the table and food order and for the dry noodles. read more
