This place is awesome. Similar to Chipotle, you can choose a pita, salad, bowl, etc. to serve as the base of your meal. I started with the salad and had the hummus, crazy feta and the falafel for protein. I don't love falafel as I tend to find it a little too "fried-tasting" but this was great! Packed with spices, beans and chickpeas this falafel was one of the greatest! My entire family was happy with their meals. Love the taste and the concept. It does remind me of Chipotle and this is great because my Mr. loves that place. I'm so glad to get flavorful veggies and grilled meats (I had a craving and came for the lamb). Ever try to catch a movie in Bethesda only to find you can't get into a restaurant beforehand? So we went into Cava--my first time despite liking their products in the grocery store (hummus, harissa)--for dinner. Now I like all types of spreads--hummus, eggplant, tzatziki, harissa--and all the proteins--and the toppings. So they actually made me a pita sampler with mostly everything. It tasted amazing--blended just well and I could taste the individual flavors and enjoy the various textures. The food tasted healthy and clean--I ate a lot yet didn't have that stuffed feeling you can get. Cava also has a small, but aok array of sodas, beer, and wine. The staff was amazingly friendly and good natured. Value was good. It's an order at the counter and go sit down kind of place--simple and not "an event." I was really craving a falafel today and was hoping that Cava would satisfy my hunger but was sadly disappointed. Pita: I found it to be too thick and tasted like it came from the grocery store. Falafel: The inside was soggy and paste-like with little flavor. I enjoyed that there were whole chickpeas inside, but missed the crunch and texture of a better falafel. Spreads: I got the hummus and the eggplant/red pepper spreads which didn't add much to the pita. Maybe I should have gotten the spicy sauce, but my pita needed a peppery kick to it. Toppings: Tomato/cucumber salad was decent as was the red cabbage slaw topping. Probably the most flavorful part of my pita. Overall, I don't think I will be going back for a falafel. I'd rather save a few bucks and go to Byblos in Cleveland Park or Amsterdam Falafel. read more

I have always loved the fresh taste of the for at this chain, but the Bethesda branch has problems. The staff has no idea of what they are selling. They don't know the sauces, they don't know to mix shake dressing before using it, they don't know the portion sizes. Frankly, the whole bowl of food like different types of oil layered on top of each other - I struggled to find any flavor in the various layers. This is the second time I've been here and received a BAD attitude from the staff. The staff here have very thick accents so it's hard to hear especially when the place itself is extremely loud. So because of this, the lady at the counter rolled her eyes at me when I said I couldn't hear what she was saying. The food isn't that great for me to brush this off and come back. Why have I not been here before!? So mad at myself for passing by this place as much as I have, and not walking in! WOW. Is all I have to say.... I like Chipotle's concept. I love the walk in and get what you want made in front of you and it's fast. The only thing is, I don't care for burritos so much. So I typically just get a salad, and I always get the same thing. My options at Chipotle are limited and I always think to myself "I wish they had a Chipotle concept but with middle eastern or Mediterranean food." Low and behold, they do! I just didn't know! I walked in and immediately thought.... it's like Chipotle but my dream come true! Similar to Chipotle, you pick a base. A bowl, salad, pita wrap, and they also have little mini pitas to make a combination of things. For salads, their lettuce options are on point. They had a super greens mix, that had kale and some other great power greens. They also have arugula, and your standard romaine. You then also pick a spread, which could be a hummus, tatziki or eggplant and roasted red pepper. For meats, they have chicken, braised lamb, spicy lamb, grilled meatballs and falafel. Then you choose between toppings and man do they have a great selection of FRESH and healthy vegetable options like tomato cucumber salad, cabbage slaw, lettuce, hot peppers, and so much more I can't even remember. They have feta cheese as a topping option and a great selection of dressings, including.... (wait for it) Sriracha Greek yogurt dressing! WHAT?! Their braised lamb and grilled meatballs were sooooo good. I love that all their ingredients are FRESH. They have a great selection of veggies which I absolutely love. For my huge salad smothered in delicious sauces and spreads, came to only 310 calories. Yes, you are reading right. 310 calories! I lovvvvvve this place and can see myself eating here EVERY DAY no joke. My partner got the pita wrap and it was overflowing with meat and veggies. It was damn delicious. They also have some great drink options. I got the cucumber, lime and mint which I absolutely loved. I thought it was a tad sweet but it was good. Again why didn't I try this place earlier!? Basically Cava Mezze is the Greek version of Chipotle. Read other people's reviews if you don't know what I mean. I particularly like this place because even when they do have a long time, it goes by really quickly. The food is fresh and yummy. I like having different options and tastes. I REALLY like their rice. I personally hate Chipotle's rice so I am always a bit skeptical about rice at these places but I really really like their rice. +1 to this being a Mediterranean version of Chipotle. And maybe a bit of Sweetgreen tossed in for good measure. It was a great option during a quick lunch break while in the neighborhood for work. Several co-workers who are local had suggested this place for lunch, and I was not disappointed with the recommendation. There is something here for everyone. Walking in, it felt just like going to Chipotle in terms of the counter format and the interior design of the restaurant. I opted for a salad, which is what reminded me of Sweetgreen. You have the choice of locally-sourced greens. I choice the super greens which had kale, greens, and even shredded brussel sprouts as the components. From there, I added the zesty feta (it definitely lives up to its name), the eggplant spread, and tzatziki. In building your meal, you have the choice of up to three spreads and there were some other tantalizing options as well including harissa and hummus. As you move down the counter, you'll be asked to add your protein which includes lamb, beef, and chicken. I opted for a meat-free choice of falafel. Finally, there are a few additional toppings you can add which include a slaw, pickled onions, and kalamata olives. Top it off with a dressing if you choose and you are good to go. It seemed hard for me to turn down a bit of the sriracha greek yogurt dressing, so I went for it. Prices were decent given that you got a filling meal, all with your choices, in a short period of time. read more

The Cava people are geniuses. My favorite kind of fast, healthy, take-out and it's a cool-looking place as well. I love that the salad is very fancy, locally sourced baby greens of various types. I like the falafel on top of the greens, with tzatziki, crazy feta, and the eggplant dip. The tahini dressing goes on top, and some wonderful pickled onions and mint and other tasty toppings as well. What I don't get are the micro-servings of the spreads-- they amount to a little less than a tablespoon. So they are basically one bite sides! Pretty absurd. I think they were more generous when they first opened. Still, if you ask nicely they'll give you a third spoonful of a spread. read more

The Harissa is good! The lamb.. Tastes like lamb. The eggplant was very good though! I guess after eating my meal I didn't understand all the hype. Ill probably give it another try though..
