We ate very quickly because it was uncomfortably warm. Also, the employees serving food need more training. I had the Greek salad. They could have been more generous with their scoops. Overall, it was fine-not great, not bad. My son had the kids meal. It was a decent portion of chicken but the toppings were minimal. I swear he gave one cucumber for the tzatki I asked for. The mint drink is delicious. Hummus was fine and crispy pita was good. The female cashier that checked us out was very pleasant and steered the ship because the other employees seemed confused and moved slow (maybe that heat?). I probably wouldn't return. read more

Ima first responder and frequent cava weekly if not almost daily bc the food is healthier than the other on the go options, and the salads are delicious. They give me a discount when on duty and I highly appreciate that. Today I bought two salads, one for my supervisor in the car and one for me. The cashier who I assume is the manager bc he spoke with some authority (not in a bad way) told me he could only give me the discount on 1, which to me is absurd. He then proceeded to do two separate transactions, one with the discount and one without . Which to me means he could have. But didn't want to because ...idk, he thought I was reselling them for double outside? Always tasty, always fresh. I go here at least once every two weeks + it never ever gets old. Super easy to order ahead on the app, and go pick up the food- this is usually what I do as it is most convenient. Designed exactly like Chipotle, you get to choose a base (I usually go with half of the super greens, and half of the white basmati rice), choice of 3 Mediterranean dips (like tzatziki, hummus, crazy feta, etc.), meat options, and other add-ons that will include but not be limited to: - kalamata olives - tomatoes and cucumbers - crumbled feta - pickled onion - cabbage slaw - lemon - pita chips The list goes on and on... for the meats they offer spicy meatballs (my personal favorite), chicken (seasoned so well!), and other options that cost extra like lamb, spicy lamb meatballs, etc. To top it off, you will get to chose sauces like lemon herb tahini, green harissa, spicy siracha, etc. The point is that you can legitimately make whatever you want depending on what you're feeling that day. My order changes here all the time because everything is that good. Best part is you also get a free pita on the side... just make sure to ask for it! It's Cava... what's not to like? Fresh and healthy ingredients, a clean and modern ambiance and cheerful and speedy service. NYC is littered with fast casual options like this. Jersey City not so much. So needless to say, it's nice to have Cava in the area. I've only ever tried the chicken green and grain bowl and it never disappoints. The chicken is tender and flavorful and because I can never decide between greens or grains it's nice to have a mix of both. After picking your base and proteins you can build up the bowl with dips, toppings and sauces galore. The dips are the best -- I'm partial to the tzatziki and eggplant. There is also red pepper hummus, regular hummus and a spicy feta dip. My favorite toppings are the kalmata olives, pickled onions, feta cheese, pita chips and cucumber and tomato mix. To top everything off the lemon tahini sauce is delicious. For a fresh, quick and healthy Mediterranean fix there's really nothing better. For under ten dollars the bowl is extremely filling and will leave you stuffed. read more

I kept seeing everyone with their bags, now I know why! I'm sure that some of the choices are unhealthy but most are actually good for you and everything is delicious! The set up is much like a Chipotle where you choose a bowl or pita and build it with protein, toppings and sauces. I enjoyed the large selection of toppings and sauces and found everything to be fresh and tasty. I also liked that you can choose numerous proteins - for example, I got chicken with two pieces of falafel for one price - as well as multiple sauces. Their agua fresca drinks are a must try, especially the watermelon mint. Yum! The staff here was very friendly and helpful in explaining what some of the sauces and toppings were. I LOVE CAVA! I go to the Jersey City Cava about once a week for my every day work lunch. The fact that the place is packed with a line snaking around the restaurant almost every single day is a testament to how popular the place really is. I actually heard about it from good word of mouth from coworkers as a "Mediterranean Chipotle," so of course, I quickly became a fan. To summarize, The options at Cava are diverse and surprisingly low calorie and nutrient dense. If you're vegetarian or vegan, or just looking for a healthier option amongst the food trucks and burger joints, you will absolutely find options here! Yesterday, I went for a later lunch and the place was peacefully empty with a short line. I ordered a variation of my normal greens and grains bowl, as well as a watermelon mint cooler. Before paying, I mentioned an issue where I had to cancel a prior order and customer service wanted me to come to the store in question and bring my receipt. The cashier was lovely! She told me that customer service must've made a mistake, and that to make up for it, I'd only need to pay for my drink, which I thought was fair. As always, my veggies were fresh and delicious, with the pickled items (slaw and onions) not being overly salty. The falafel was chewy and flavorful, and the sauces and dips were not heavy and well portioned. My new favorite, however, is the watermelon mint cooler, which tastes like something that could be easily made with a blender. Refreshing on a hot day without being too sugary. I'll always recommend Cava as great place to grab lunch during the week, but keep an eye on the time and either get there early or place an order ahead using their app. Otherwise, everything else is worth it. read more

I know it sounds weird, but I love salad. Not because salads are good for me, I genuinely like to eat salads. I hated the fact that we didn't have a decent salad option in JC, unlike Hoboken, which has HG. I was really happy when Cava opened in JC, and have been going there at least once a week since then (needless to say, this review is overdue). Pro tip, download the Cava app and put in your order in advance, which can come in handy during rush hours. My go-to order is: salad with supergreens hummus, tzatziki and roasted red pepper hummus dips (crazy feta if I am craving cheese) spicy lamb meatballs (although I have started to really like the grilled chicken lately) pickled onions, cabbage slaw, tomato and onion salad, beet, cauliflower quinoa and pita crisps I usually skip the dressing as the three dips provide plenty of seasoning for the salad. I am normally not a juice person, but I really love the homemade juices Cava sells. The flavors rotate seasonally, they are usually a blend of fruity and herbal, with just the right amount of sweetness. The only dish that I don't care for here is the soup. I tried the roasted tomato soup with harissa, it was super chunky, and the only flavor I could discern was the harissa, it felt like they omitted all other seasoning in the soup. Service here can be hit or miss, it is usually very good, I have occasionally experienced long waits even after placing orders on the app in advance. It's understandable if there was a long line, however, there were two occasions where the place was empty and the people behind the counters were just chatting. One of them would look over at me and informed me that she was making my order, but would go back to her conversation with her coworker. This only happened twice out of the countless times I have been there, so I didn't want to deduct any star from the rating. Overall, I love this place. I tend to get sick of eating the same thing over and over again, thus I never had a true go-to place. Cava has been my first go-to place in JC, and I crave it if I don't have it at least once a week. Food is pretty healthy and good here. HOWEVER, PLEASE TRAIN YOUR STAFF TO BE MORE HYGIENIC. One of your workers, instead of using a spoon to scoop and serve the toppings, used her gloved hands to just pick up the toppings and just drop them onto the bowls (without even changing the gloves), she was handling other non-food items with the same disgusting gloves and then she used the same gloves to hand scoop the toppings to the bowls!! She has to be taught how to work properly and cleanly or be disciplined or face consequences. For that, I am giving CAVA a one star rating, unless things change. read more

Decided to try this for lunch - you should go before 12 to avoid long lines. I went a little before 12 and there was a mini line but it moved. This is basically Mediterranean food but chipotle style- pick your base, dips, protein, toppings, sauce, etc. I got the yellow rice and picked three dips (roast pepper hummus, forgot the other two ) They look like small scoops but really it all adds up pretty heavily. For my protein I got the meatballs. When she was scooping them on it didn't appear to be a lot either but when I eating it- it never ended. Anyway the toppings are unlimited so I got a bunch on there- I just remembered I picked the feta cheese. I am not a fan of veggies but there are a lot to choose from. For the sauce you can pick from a list- I got the spicy one- forget the actual name. The total came out to around $10. Tasted pretty healthy and it was HEAVY like SO HEAVY!!!! It didn't look like a lot of food but once you start eating- just SO HEAVY!!! Maybe it was all the sauces I got!! I am not that big of a fan but I can see why people like it. This is the second CAVA location I've tried. Although I expected this one to be bigger (which it is) due to where it's located I think the Paramus spot at the mall gets just as much foot traffic and should also be this same size because it gets packed to the point of not being able to find a seat. Anyhow back to this location. They are very good here, obviously a clean location because its so new. But also I liked how the whole spot was set up - nicer art/photographs on the walls. I ate basically the same thing I always get here, this time a bowl with basmati rice, falafel, hummus, and I decided to get diced beets along with cucumbers. Cava is one of those places you can't go wrong with. This type of quick service food is convenient and always hits the spot. They are all over nyc now and glad to see they made it to NJ. The one gripe I had was I delt the falafel were salty. I have had better at Naya and Dig Inn but the bowl overall was good. I love the red pepper hummus that they have. You can be in and out quick which is always helpful when on a quick work lunch. The place is clean also which is always refreshing since it does get busy. Went here on a Sunday afternoon. Was excited to learn that there was a relatively healthy Mediterranean spot near downtown Jersey City. Mediterranean food is usually vegan friendly so I was looking forward to trying it out. When my friend and I arrived the place was almost empty, there were about 3 other people sitting there eating. I get the feeling this isn't the case during weekday lunch rush. I ordered a grain bowl with brown rice and black lentils. The lady attending me was definitely not in a good mood but being that it was my first time there I had NO idea how to order, what their offerings were, basically how it all works. I quickly realize it's basically a Mediterranean SweetGreen. You pick the grains, you pick the sauces (I had to ask what each one was and she reluctantly responded) and you pick your proteins and dressing. Most of their protein offerings were meats except for the grilled vegetables and falafel. I initially only saw the grilled vegetables. You get "two" servings of a protein. Not seeing the falafel I asked for 2 helpings of the grilled veggies. My friend then points out the falafel so I quickly ask her "actually, can I have one falafel serving instead?" Listen I understand a customer changing her mind can be annoying but the place was empty... it's Sunday afternoon for goodness sake, and it was my first time here. She rolled her eyes and stood there not moving for a good 2 minutes while informing me that it was $3.25 more for an extra protein. It's really not THAT serious. I can get a whole falafel sandwich for a little more than that (elsewhere) so I ask her if she can just scoop it out and add falafel. Who I assume was the manager then tells her to toss out the entire bowl and make me a new one. What? Why would you toss out the whole bowl? HOW DOES THAT MAKE SENSE? What a ridiculous request. I ask her "can't you just scoop it out?" She firmly replies NO. Crazy AF. So the already-annoyed-at-the-world girl tosses out the entire bowl (mind you she could've just scooped out the pathetic portion of veggies they count as one serving) and made another. This time she puts one sad scoop of veggies and only 2 falafel. 2 tiny falafel. I'm not sure if it's usually 3 because she looked at me like she was effing me over but again... this was my first time here and all this fuss about falafel really annoyed the shit out of me. I go to pay and I had to ASK HER about bread. Bruh, this is my FIRST time here but from my experience at SweetGreen I know that salads/bowls usually come with bread. There is a desperate need for casual healthy options in a neighborhood of burgers, pizza, and bars, and CAVA sits alone in providing that in this area. I don't want to pay $15 for a salad, but I can stomach $10 for one. The multitude of sauces and topping options gives you an opportunity to customize and vary your bowls so you don't get sick and tired of the same thing. The flavors are there, and you don't feel like you're eating rabbit food because there's enough substance and chew in every bite. My only suggestion here is to do something about the meatballs. I don't know... it's not a meatball salad, but the four dinky ones there just don't feel like enough. As a result, I've just gone for chicken ever since my first bowl there. Tip for locals - weekends and weekdays are like night and day. On weekends, its a pleasant experience going and waiting on line to customize your own bowl. You pick your base whether that be greens, rice, beans - there's so many options. You then pick your meat, I opted for chicken and didn't regret it. Not dry and fresh off the grill! Winner! They also have lamb, meatballs and veggies for you meat-haters. Top if off with sauce and toppings. Great number of options, fast food and a decent price. Pro tip: opt for the to-go it's a bit bigger than the stay in option. Also, please read the to-go menu in advance to figure out what you want before you head to the counter. I've tried their chicken, grilled meatballs, and spicy lamb meatballs (an additional charge), and I wasn't all that impressed with their chicken. I definitely go for one of their meatball options. There are lots of healthy options and the food items aren't drenched in salt. It can be a light, refreshing, and filling meal depending on what you decide to put in your bowl.
