Good food for a reasonable price but cranky staff sometimes I believe they should be trained on how to handle customers a little bit better. Terrible food. Way overpriced. Chicken sandwich had very little chicken on a way too big, overly buttered bun. The coleslaw reminded me of Reser's, was way too saucy, and very sweet. The cabbage didn't have any crunch to it. There's no way they make it. The pulled pork isn't pulled. It's sliced or shaved. Either way, it was dry and flavorless. The polish sausage was cooked well enough, and not burned, it was actually tender, but you can't taste any smoke. In fact, you couldn't taste the smoke on any of the meat. We got the BBQ sauce on the side and it came in a container larger than the large size coleslaw. And it's weird tasting. The Bootleg Pudding was hard and dry. Inedible. Someone on Yelp said there's a BBQ joint called Pete's in the area. We'll try that place next time but I will not be back to Caveman Kitchen. read more

We called ahead and said there were gonna be 8 of us and they said that's fine but when we got there he said we weren't allowed because the party was too big when we saw other parties with 8+. I have been eating Caveman food since 1977. Dick Donely was a great provider of wonderfully smoked food and delightful side dishes. He was a Force in the Restaurant industry in his day. I would have BBQ chicken sandwiches and almost world famous Potato salad at least twice a week during High School Basketball and Soccer season. It has always been a go to for a quick meal/snack. Even when I was outta state for college always looked forward to that food. All that being said, it is with a less than enthusiastic finger that I write this review. Haven't eaten anything other than beans, or smoked chicken from here in a couple of years. I understand that continuing to make it in the industry is harder and harder, but, I have NEVER had such a disappointing meal from "The Caveman" as my family had tonight. I picked up 2.5 lbs of pork cubes, couple of Large beans, 2 medium Potato salads, and a medium slaw. The pork cubes were nothing close to the standard that I have ever experienced. I felt like they were a rush job because they were low on them and rushed the process to have them in the hopper. Not EVEN close to kinda tender, flavorful, or enjoyable. I understand real BBQ, whoever prepared these doesn't. Dry, tough pork isn't it. Sauce was great, if they would have put a couple of dollops more than a splash on the meat. The Potato salad was pedestrian at best, dry side of palatable. The Slaw was good. and the beans,...The Beans, were as good as ever. Although $9 is a bit much for a 16 oz portion, IMO. $20/lb for pork cubes? Nah, NEVER again. I will have the forethought to smoke my own from now on, or else forego the idea completely. Portions are pathetically small for a BBQ joint, sauce is weak - basically just ketchup, overpriced, bad service, just not a quality establishment. Came here for lunch with a group of coworkers and left feeling extremely disappointed that my $8+ "BBQ" sandwich did not even put a dent in my hunger, nor was there nearly enough meat - it was literally just like ketchup smeared on old bread. Caveman used to be a really good spot, but something has changed in the last few years because the quality has been steadily declining, the portions are now tiny and the prices have skyrocketed... bread used to be included in a meal, now it's considered a side item and they give you a tiny little roll instead of the sandwich-sized roll they used to give you for free. i don't know if the place changed hands or the old family members retired and now the kids are running the show, but i really can't recommend this place to anybody anymore. used to be my favorite spot in the valley but now i go south to jack's instead for better food, better portions and similar prices. really sad when a local institution goes down the drain... read more

A northwest staple being around since the 1971. Great smoked meats with an average BBQ sauce. I almost always get the BBQ beef or pork sandwitch with a side of Dragon Wheels. If you haven't had Dragon Wheels - try them. It is potatoes, carrots, onions and pork seasoned and cooked togher. Try IT! Stopped in on the 28th with my sister specifically to get the chicken bacon ranch sandwiches which I've been bragging about. The food had no bacon, no ranch and one sandwich had 2 bones while the other had several bites with zero chicken at all. I know this is not typical caveman so I give them the benefit of the doubt and suspect that the inferior product was directly related to the attitude of those working. The bottom line is if you are working the register and you can't smile and have no people skills then rethink your career choice. LOVE the BBQ! Caveman ROCKS! This is a little hole in the wall, that you would drive by for years & not know it is there. I have to go to Auburn area for work sometimes. I ALWAYS make it a point to stop and visit the caveman. Best potato salad I have every had. It simply is the best. I usually get the beef bbq sandwich, served on a soft garlic bread. Simple but tasty! Their homemade baked beans have huge chucks of bacon in it. A perfect pair with the potato salad. (Did I mention the potato salad?) Clean, fast and friendly service. I came here with a craving and was steered away from Famous Dave's to this place by a southern belle with whom I work. She says it's pretty close to authentic southern style that you could find up here in the NW, and being a former southerner, I figured I'd give it a try. The chicken meal is half a smoked chicken--fantastic because I generally don't like barbecue sauce. It was juicy and smoky and very delicious. The beans were pretty damn tasty as well, but I should also say that I generally don't like beans, so they may be a disappointment to someone who is more into the musical fruit. Potato salad was just all right, and I only had a bite of the french bread that they served along with it, just because I didn't want to put too much filler in my gut. Also got a pork sandwich which was good, not great. The ribs were tender, but not falling off the bone, and the sauce was a little to ketchup-ey. For the most part I'm not a big meat eater, but every once in a while I get a craving for flesh which can only be satisfied by stuffing my pie-hole with something that once had a face. This review is for my visit today - my first since they reopened. First of all, the menu is smaller. There are a few items missing, such as the missouri ham (one of my old favorites). However, they have added a couple of new items. One of these new sandwiches is the Beef & Blue, which is what I tried today. It is it the regular beef on a ciabatta roll, topped with blue cheese sauce (with none of the cave man bbq sauce). It was really tasty, though a bit small compared to the rest of the sandwiches. Careful which site you look at the menu. They haven't updated pricing. Example ribs for 11.99lb on first site and real price almost $20lb. When mentioned I was told I "looked at wrong site, that's what it is." A rip off. Never again. That and the quality not what it was in the past. You can do better. I had the chance to try CaveMan last week and I've been thinking about it since. Thank goodness my client recommended it - this is one of those places that shouldn't be missed if you have the opportunity. I ordered a French dip, and I was expecting something simple, what I got was a really healthy serving of delicious I wasn't prepared for. At the front counter they had a sampling of sausage with their sauce, and that's what's haunted me for the last week... It was amazing! Fantastic favors. Rarely do I get to enjoy a new flavor, but this was unforgettable... And now I'm typing my admiration for it. I hope to get back there soon and stock up one day. read more

LOVE me some Caveman... been coming since I was wee. Food taste and quality have NEVER wavered. I like to order the large bbq chicken sandwich with extra sauce (funny how, instead of griping about the amount of sauce I just order it to my liking!) The rolls are always buttery and toasty, the chicken always smokey and moist. I have friends who live for their Dragonwheels... even try to replicate the recipe at home. When my husband and I went in to the restaurant for our initial consultation, we were shocked and so happy when Roseanne offered full-sized portions of their creations for us to try before we made our final decision. We were treated like kings. When the big day rolled around, Roseanne and her staff got to work, setting up the food, decorating the tables, and making sure everything ran smoothly. Ive been coming here since I was a little girl and Im not sure whats changed but its definitely not what it used to be. The pork sandwich is half the size it used to be, the size of the sides could feed an ant and they cut the desserts into 1/4 of what they used to be but the prices are still through the roof. I had few min conversation with the lady who made the sandwich and one of the cave man he was amazingly nice took a seat near me while I was enjoying the sandwich he was giving me history about cave man kitchen how it's founded and how long it's been here I enjoyed his company and the sandwich. I am very bad remembering names so I won't mention names if I miss spell or it's a sin. Gentlemen told me it's disrespectful if u can't pronounce a men's name with proper tongue or tone. I've eaten cave man food since before it opened. Mr Donnelly tested his recipe's on us at work. Whenever I'm in town i stop by to enjoy the great smoked chicken and dragon wheels. This time was different. We stopped about 6 PM, hardly the end of the day and ordered our usual whole chicken and dragon wheels. What a disappointment! The chicken was very dry and the dragon wheels were cooked beyond recognition. Sad to see the complete lack of quality control. What a shame!
