A bánh mì shop inside a fancy Ranch 99? I'm in!! Cay Cafe is not your average bánh mì spot. Their bánh mì, spring rolls, and drink selection are all top-notch compared to many other places I've tried. I'm a regular when it comes to their combo bánh mì, lemongrass beef bánh mì, and fresh spring rolls. I recently gave their Thai tea a try, and it's legit so good. It's made with real brewed tea, which makes a huge difference. The Ranch 99 food court in general is worth checking out!

I had been wanting to check out another banh mi spot other than the more well-known ones. Cay Cafe is inside 99 Ranch's food court. I always get a classic cold cut combination so I ordered their #1 with extra pate, which was an additional $2. The total came out to be close to $12 which is actually more expensive than Huong Lan. It was ready roughly 15 minutes after ordering from the kiosk. Let's cut to the chase -- the banh mi was disappointing. The meats were not only very thin, but more specifically, the red pork belly roll had a weird taste to it that I couldn't really get over. They did pack on the pate and mayo, but then again I did pay an additional $2. The best part of the banh mi was probably the bread, as it was a softer texture than most.

Cay Café in Fremont has been one of our favorites since the day they first opened, and they've been consistently amazing ever since. The barbecue pork bánh mì is absolutely delicious--tender, flavorful pork marinated in a perfect balance of sweet and savory, all tucked into freshly made, soft-yet-crispy bread. You can really taste the freshness, and knowing they make their own barbecue pork makes it even better. We've also tried the crunchy pork bánh mì, and that one is just as tasty, especially with the crispy skin adding great texture. Honestly, what's not to like? Their drinks are just as impressive. The Viet phin-dripped coffee with house condensed milk is rich and satisfying. The coconut smoothie with phin-dripped black coffee definitely gives a nice energy boost (in the best way!), and the blended fresh mango smoothie with whole milk is smooth, refreshing, and full of flavor. The employees are always friendly, the wait time is short, and there's plenty of seating available, plus a nearby restroom--which is always a nice bonus. We always enjoy coming here and will definitely keep coming back!

I finally revisited Cay Cafe and tried the $12.50 Banh Mi Pho Dip item. It tasted great! Delicious sandwich with the small soup to dip my baguette into. Decent. Good quality slow cooked beef with veggies was good enough for my biking trip towards the next city. I specifically requested for them to cut my sandwich in half and they did it. Cool. Added the coconut matcha beverage which wasn't too overly sweet. I'm actually liking it here now. Self service kiosk. Pick up order on far right side of counter when your order number is called. What I like about Cay Cafe is they open early enough at 10am sharp/Wednesday morning which works out well for early folks. My cashier bagging up my order is detail oriented. Good atmosphere during morning hours when there are not too many people inside the food court. Stress free pickup. Got my order within a few minutes. The Banh Mi Pho Dip (pulled beef in it) is worth coming back for more. Good soft bread and beverage not too sweet. Cay Cafe has made improvements since their grand opening years ago. Looking good now.

Cay Cafe is a food stall located in the EatUp Food Court in 99 Ranch Market. Spacious dining area. Order via kiosk, pay by card, then wait for your order to be called. Beef Lemongrass Banh Mi: ribeye beef marinated with lemongrass (4/5). The baguette roll was warm and toasty. Each bite was enjoyable because the bread was very soft. The ribeye was very tender and lightly flavored. Vietnamese Phin Coffee: phin dripped expresso with condensed milk (4/5). A strong and pretty good ice coffee. I'll be back to try their other sandwiches. Support your local business.

Dropped by on random Wednesday at 4pm...no one in line...food made to order so wait was around 10 minutes...tried the steam pork roll with pate ($8.50) and the grilled lemongrass beef ($9 plus)...price point on the high side...with almost $10 for vn sandwich the grilled beef to bread ratio could have been better...skimpy on the beef...both sandwiches tasted fine but the grilled beef didn't live up to the price tag...solid place for vn sandwiches but would stick to the steam pork roll n pate

Great sandwiches and fast service! They are high quality sandwiches and are not cheap so you know it is delicious. Bread is soft, meats are excellent and the pate nice and rich! Service is also excellent and friendly. Mom and pop flavor with quality ingredients make this a go to if you are looking for a delicious Bahn Mi! It is in a food court but that is not a hit on them. So ambiance is crowded but the sandwiches are worth the wait and crowds.

I did not dine in, my coworker picked up an online order. Vietnamese sandwiches were the choice today and I chose a BBQ Pork sandwich. The flavor of the meat is pretty good and the bread was not too hard or too soft. Although the prices are very affordable, I did feel the sandwich could have had more meat and veggies on it.

The most incredible freshly baked and toasted baguette I've ever had for a banh mi. $9.25 plus tax for the lemongrass beef banh mi, and I'll be back to try the classic and grilled pork versions. Also liked the pork spring rolls, but the sandwich was the real star. The ladies working there are really sweet and hardworking, so tip well.

This spot is located in the food court of 99 Ranch. We visited on a Saturday afternoon. Orders are placed at a kiosk, and your number is called out when it's ready. Since there was only one person preparing everything, the wait time can vary depending on how busy it is. We ordered the tofu bánh mì with extra pickles. Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and light--really enjoyable!

I originally came here because of an Instagram Reel about Cay Cafe's Mochiko coffee. What I didn't expect was to have an hour and a half conversation about the cafe with the owner! (His name is Long.) TL;DR: Come here if you want to have a drink and eat food that's made with 100% real ingredients with no preservatives and tastes fresh. This stuff is made by people who care so much that they've traveled directly to their sources so they can control what they're getting. PHILOSOPHY: Long and his wife wanted to make sure that people get the best food with the least amount of preservatives and using ONLY WHOLE INGREDIENTS. They've gone DEEP into figuring out how to make the best version of their food without any added chemicals. DRINK: The Mochiko Coffee was like a Philz Mint Mojito Coffee but with a Vietnamese spin. The salted cream was exactly as advertised. We added the matcha cream and was very pleasantly surprised that the cream was VERY matcha forward. DRINK BACKGROUND: From talking to Long, his family goes to Vietnam to talk to the farmers and SOURCE THE BEANS for their coffee. They are NOT just scooping out some Cafe Du Monde canned coffee! Similar for their matcha, he travels to Japan to actually meet the matcha producers. He told us that since there's a matcha shortage, he ACTUALLY NEEDS TO SHOW the match producers the final product so they can approve the sale of the matcha. CRUNCHY PORK BANH MI: The Crunchy Pork Banh Mi is one of the top 3 banh mi's I've ever had in my life. I'm not a big Yelp reviewer, but I do eat a lot of banh mi's. Most people swear by Duc Huong but Cay Cafe's banh mi is different. BREAD: Assuming you eat this sandwich fresh, right as you order it: the bread is freshly toasted so it'll be perfectly crispy on the outside and so soft on the inside that you will think that there isn't much bread. However, what it's doing is actually sucking in the juices and mayonnaise of the sandwich. BREAD BACKGROUND: Cay Cafe's bread is made fresh every day and you can tell. Heck, Long's business partner actually went to Paris to learn how to bake their bread! I asked Long if I could buy a banh mi for the following day. He gave me instructions on how to heat it up, but you can tell he hesitated because the bread's best expression is the day it was made. The bread itself has zero preservatives and Long doesn't recommend eating it beyond 1 day old because it just won't be that good. I've never met someone who cares so much about how we eat their bread. CRUNCHY PORK: Their Crunchy Pork is amazing. It's not a tough hard skin that you can get at other places. The flavor is just right, it's not super salty, they cut it at the right size for biting. You can feel the crisp skin through every bite and it never goes soft or rubbery, it stays crispy through the whole sandwich. CRUNCHY PORK BACKGROUND: Long sources all of their pork belly from a local butcher and when they crisp the skin, they don't artificially induce the crispiness by adding sugar. All of the crispiness comes from how they cook it, which is very much in line with how home cooks would do a crispy pork belly. CARROTS, DAIKON, VEGGIES They do an excellent job of pickling. It hits the right balance of fresh, crunchy and not too sweet or sour. PRICE: Look y'all, it's a little higher for a banh mi. But personally, I'd rather pay a little more for all the love, care and real food that is coming my way. DID YOU KNOW? SATELLITE LOCATION: The Fremont Cay Cafe is their outpost and they truck everything down from their home base at La Ca Bakery and Cafe in Hayward. If you've read this far, JUST GO, don't sleep on this cafe! It's in the back of the Food Court area in the 99 Ranch!

I was so excited to try their egg coffee, which turned out to be pretty good. Not too sweet (which is a good thing!) and very strong. I didn't realize it but I came on their grand opening day so I was able to spin for something and luckily, I was won egg rolls. So, so tasty! They also gifted us a mung bean homemade moon cake and that was fantastic. Hopefully they can sell those there! Service was spectacular- they checked up on me and made sure my food & drink was ready in a timely manner. It was a nice, clean, and modern looking stall in the 99 ranch food court. It was nice to see the food court so crowded and busy! All in all, I'm so happy to see more Vietnamese coffee shops in Fremont. read more

I have been to Cay Cafe once a week for the past three weeks and the food never disappoints! The banh mi's are so delicious and the bread, oh man that stuff is the secret sauce of an already great bahn mi! The bread is crispy outside yet soft inside and the taste is just something special. I also had the berry matcha and it was the right amount of sweet for me and very tasty. The customer service is top notch and the owner is incredibly friendly and it's clear to me there is a passion behind the delcious food. I'm already craving another sandwich! read more

Ordered a sugar cane drink at the self-order machine while waiting for my food in the food court. Came back 10 minutes later and they still hadn't started it--the drink sticker was literally still sitting in the machine. I looked toward the back and the staff were just chatting instead of working, and only when I pointed it out did someone finally come over to make the drink. Even then, I selected "less ice", but they filled the cup to the brim with ice anyway. And for the price, the drink is tiny compared to what other Vietnamese places give you. Also noticed their bánh mì is pretty overpriced, and they even charge $2 extra just for pâté, which is wild. Overall, disappointing service and poor value. Not coming back. read more

I loved the fresh take on a classic banh mi! Ordered the grilled pork banhmi - meat was flavorful and juicy and paired well with the fresh pickled veggies inside. Also tried the banh mi pho dip - which was a fun take on a Vietnamese version of a French dip. If you love beef pho- I would recommend it. The salted cream coffee was also delicious. The service was also 5/5- they answered our questions about the menu and even checked up on us to see how it was tasting. Would definitely come back again! read more

I would have never guessed Cay Cafe was in soft opening. I was able to order online with ease and my order was ready as promised. Service was great! I can tell the staff is super happy to be there and put a lot of effort into their food and drink. I ordered a combination banh mi and also grilled pork banh mi. The pork was really juicy and tender, but I think I personally could use a little more marinade/salt flavor. The combination was perfect as is. The bread was super fresh and the pickled veggies were balanced just right. Between the two I would go back for the combination. I also had the ube Vietnamese coffee and it was strong and perfectly sweet. I would definitely order it again. read more

I will say that I've had a good amount of pork banh mi before some good and some bad but I am very happy too say that this banh mi grilled pork was really good. I would give it a solid 8.5 or even nine out of 10. Very high score. I have attached the photo good thing I took one before I finished the whole thing. I also got one of their milk drink the tiger one I think it was called very good as well. If you're looking for the café it's inside the supermarket. Apparently they have a food court in there. Try it out though. The service was quick and easy as well. read more

A wonderful Vietnamese restaurant inside the food court of the 99 Ranch grocery store. They have delicious high quality bahn mi, noodle bowls, and rolls. They also have a great selection of iced drinks. I was extremely impressed with Viet Phin Coffee I ordered. It had the perfect amount sweetness and creaminess paired with the distinctive Vietnamese robusta bean flavor. The owner let me know they import their beans from a speciality farm in Vietnam and you can really taste the difference. Speaking of the owners, they are both extremely kind and happy to guide you through their menu and offer advice on what to order or even give advice on planning a vacation to Vietnam. My review is long overdue. My wife and I have been ordering food here since day 1. I rarely write reviews but today, the owner really went above and beyond for us. There was a power outage in the area right after I placed my online order. When I got to the plaza, all the restaurants were packing up for the day and the 99 ranch was blacked out. I see the owner standing outside of the blacked out food court with a brown bag with my name on it. He was scanning the area, clearly looking concerned and worried. When he handed me the bag he had the greatest smile of relief on his face and we had a friendly chat as always. That sort of care and attention to detail is what makes Cay Cafe a place we come back to again and again. It truly feels like the owners are cooking for their own family and friends each time we bite into a banh mi or a nem nuong. Now about the food, this is the premier spot for banhmi and spring rolls in the south bay. We have ordered the crispy and grilled pork, cold cut combo, lemongrass beef, pho dip... pretty much the whole menu. Everything is craveable, healthy, and fresh. And their nem nuong is better than brodards in socal. Love this place. I hope they stay around and expand more and more. They are a testament to a strongly ran family business. read more

Am so happy my hubby and I decided to try Cay Cafe. This establishment is conveniently located in 99 Ranch. There is alot of parking! My hubby ordered the Pho Banh M and a Vietnamese egg cream coffee. I ordered the roasted crispy pork Bahn MI and ube coffee. We also order the pork and beef spring rolls. Portions of the food was generous. I really enjoyed drink my ube coffee. My Banh MI was delicious. My hubby also enjoyed his food and drink. We would definitely come back for the drinks and food. Unfortunately I did not take any photos. I will with the next visit! read more

Sooo excited to have a new bahn mi place so close to home! I tried the tofu bahn mi, the tofu fresh rolls, and the strawberry matcha with oat milk. It's a quick service kind of place. You order at a kiosk, but there was a friendly employee that offered to help if we had any questions. Ordering was very easy though and each item had a photo(which was very helpful). I ordered the tofu bahn mi without mayo and I was worried that it might be dry, but it was sooo good! The bread was what really made the sandwich and was definitely the best that I've ever had. The tofu fresh rolls came with an adequate amount of peanut sauce and was good, but I wish they had some fresh herbs inside like cilantro or mint. I'm really glad that they offer non-dairy options for their drinks though. I definitely enjoyed my strawberry matcha. So much so, that I finished it too quickly because it was so good! Haha. Plenty of seating in the food court area. I would maybe bring a jacket next time though, since the air conditioning is on blast. Pretty chilly inside compared to outside. Everything on the menu is fresh and amazing. Our family has come 4 times in last 2 weeks because everything on the menu is good and we may be addicted. Their drinks (love the egg coffee) are crave worthy, and the boba in their smoothies was the perfect texture. We have tried all their spring rolls. Nem Nuong is probably my favorite (grilled pork sausage), and chicken is my son's. My 10 year old is an incredibly picky eater and he said he could eat the chicken spring rolls every day and the roast pork sandwich is the best Vietnamese sandwich he's ever had. The best thing is their bread is crusty without being painful and has an amazing chewiness kind of like a bagel. Everything here is good!!! read more

Got the grilled pork banh mi. Fairly standard, but comes with a sauce that elevates the sandwich. I do have a little gripe with the bread. While the inside of the bread is fluffy and soft, the crust is a little odd. It kind of has this slight stale crisp. I also bought the bread a few weeks back, just for dipping in Viet curry. I toasted the bread and the stale crisp was exacerbated. But overall, a pretty good banh mi spot. read more

Good service but the food quality was okay. I got the grilled pork spring roll and the meat was a bit dry. The egg coffee did not have the thick egg cream you would taste from other Vietnamese restaurants in SJ. It was more liquid in consistency than a cream. Mobile ordering available. Finally a great Báhn Mì option in the Mission/Warm Springs area of Fremont! I ordered the grilled pork Báhn Mì and the Ube Coffee. Both were delicious! The Báhn Mì is quite big compared to other places and it was generously filled with pork and veggies. Service was quick and friendly and items are reasonably priced. So happy to have a quick pick up banh mi spot in the area. I've been complaining to my boyfriend about how I haven't had banh mi for so long since moving to Fremont. This place is located inside Ranch 99 in the Eat Up area right across from Piju in the back. I came here about a week ago. They're a new establishment and seemed pretty popular when I got there. I ordered the cold cut combination banh mi. I thought it was a pretty solid banh mi. It had all the right components of a banh mi and made it taste light and fresh to eat. The bread was crunchy and soft. I really enjoyed the pate inside too. Not a crazy mind blowing banh mi, but definitely something quick and easy to get when you're craving it. They also serve noodles, spring rolls, and drinks too. I'll be coming back again. read more

We went in the evening and the banh mi tasted fresh and yummy. They said they make the bread fresh daily at their Hayward place. We tried #1, #6, and the nem nuong spring rolls. All tasted really good. So glad a good banh mi placed as opened here! read more

My wife and I have been here 3 to 4 times now and have really enjoyed our food every time. The bowls and banh mi are delicious, well-priced, and sizeable. I like how they offer a variety of add-ons, such as fried egg, avocado, etc. While the 99 Ranch parking lot is pretty busy, there is always parking available. The 99 Ranch food court area is a fairly nice place to dine-in. The customer service at Cay Cafe has been good during each of our visits. Overall, we love this place and plan to visit regularly in the future. read more

I normally don't leave reviews however this place is extremely delicious. I ordered the Pho Banh mi Dip. It came with a side of Pho broth. It was extremely flavorful and delicious. There is also a light dusting of matcha over the egg cream. I would like to note that this matcha has an very prominent earthiness to it, which may be why it overpowered the flavor of the pandan. I would recommend trying this out though. Casual coffee shop. Service was super quick. If I'm in the area again, I will definitely stop by again.

There's a new Vietnamese sandwich/coffee shop that just soft opened inside the Eat Up! Food Court inside 99 Ranch in Fremont. Go check them out as they spice up an already solid roster of restaurants that are available. They bring authentic Vietnamese flavors to their scrumptious sandwiches that features a baguette that is both light and fluffy, and yet has a nicely toasted crispy outer crust. The perfect vessel to contain all the tasty different protein varieties they have to choose from. Their Vietnamese coffee selection provides the usual bold taste that you would want; with a modern twist of flavors to rotate between such as ube, "mochito", matcha, sea cloud and the ever so popular egg! The Food Court is modern, bright and clean. It provides plenty of seating so you could relax and enjoy your sandwich while sipping on your morning/afternoon pick me up coffee. The customer service here is what sets this place apart. I've been to plenty of soft openings and this place knocks it out of the ball park. Of course being a soft opening, they're still getting into the swing of things, but the amount of care and dedication shows when they speak to us customers. They take the time to not only answer whatever questions or concerns we may have about the menu, but also strikes up a meaningful conversation with us. Color me impressed. I recently had the chance to try a banh mi from Cay Cafe and overall, thought it was pretty solid. I usually go for grilled pork, but since my wife and I were sharing, I decided to switch it up and ordered the combination cold cut instead. One thing that stood out was the bread. Unlike most banh mis I've had, the baguette here doesn't have that super crunchy outer shell, so you won't end up with crumbs everywhere when you take a bite. I wouldn't necessarily say that's a bad thing -- just a matter of personal preference. The filling was well-balanced, and they were especially generous with the pâté, which was smooth, flavorful, and had great texture. I also had a chance to try the nem nuong -- their pork patty roll. The herbs rolled inside were fresh and bright, and I loved the crispy texture from the fried egg roll wrapper inside. The pork patty had that classic springy texture, and the dipping sauce added a nice touch of sweetness that tied everything together. Overall, I'd give this spot a solid four stars. For a five-star banh mi, my favorite is still Duc Huong down in San Jose. read more

I have been going to Cay's Cafe for their Mochito Coffee and it was delicious. If you like Phil's Mint Mohito coffee, it is similar but with a mix of vietnamese coffee! I came today and tried out their food selections. My favorite is probably the Beef Stew. It was really fresh and really love how much proportion of beef they give you.
