Having been a 'regular' here for a few years now this will be my last visit. Being of Dominican descent it was nice while it lasted. The menu has shifted to a 'caribbean' 'south american' menu with tacos burritos etc - definitely no longer a 'Dominican' restaurant and the cook does not know the Dominican seasoning. Cazabe has really good food and a comfortable atmosphere. We had salmon a la parilla, the combination fajitas and a side of guac and a side of tostones. We enjoyed it all and like it here. We plan on coming again. The only problem is that I need to have lots of drink when I eat and they didn't really check on us and we never got our water. Still, our waitress was kind and nice. Husband and I tried this place just on a week night. It wasn't half bad --- seemed like more home cooked food and was a little pricey for what you got. I was prego at the time and I remember being extremely hot. Sweating almost. There was no one else there and it was really quiet, could use some mood music. All and all it wasn't half bad. read more

We arrived at this small and quaint restaurant a little early (5pm-ish) and was greeted by a pleasant hostess which was followed by hot, well-portion, and really good food. Customer service left a bit to be desired even though the restaurant was maybe at 25% capacity. The food arrived in a reasonable amount of time, but it was very awkward waiting for it without something like complimentary bread to snack on. Pastelitos were just okay and seemed to lack substance. The mofongo with masitas was pretty good. The bistec, goat stew and shrimp with sauce were okay but nothing to excite the taste buds. Tostones and yucca were tasty (but I suppose it's hard to get that wrong considering that they're just fried). Beans tasted like they came out of a can and generally the food tasted a little too salty. Glasses looked cloudy and old and/or dirty. I might come back for the mofongo but considering that nothing else I tried tasted that great, I probably won't. It's also a bit pricey for the portion-sizes. No one in my party left feeling even close to satisfied. The owner seems to think that everything on the menu is really good but needs to come to his senses. This restaurant could have a lot of potential if customer service were improved, complimentary pre-appetizer snacks were offered, and the flavor of the food were zinged up a bit. I'm from Dominican Republic and was the worst experience going to that place, no one receives you, the waitresses serve you once and disappear and they was poorly dressed and nothing friendly and the restaurant has a very bad smell and the worst is that not represent the Dominican seasoning, mofongo was the worst I've ever had and the food was horrible, tasteless and I think the food is saved for long time because I'm pregnant and I get sick as soon as I get out of that place, is not cheap either. My husband and I came with a friend and it was his first time having Dominican Food and he was absolutely enchanted by Cazabe. We had the Chicharron de Pollo, Mofongo, and my hubby being creative ordered nachos & taquitos(which is not really a Caribbean thing) but had to admit that they were pretty good. I am so happy to have found this place cause MD is sorely lacking in decent Dominican fare, most people here only know crappy tex-mex or central and south american dishes and when they hear Caribbean all they know of it is only Franco/Anlgo island oriented like jerk chicken and the like. They don't realize the wealth of flavor the Spanish speaking isles offer. That's why Cazabe is our new date night dinner location. read more

I visited on a Sunday to watch a football game, 'turns out we were the only party in the tavern area. The Caribbean music was overpowering and we had to ask them to turn it down and enable the audio on the game. Staff was responsive to our requests but fajitas seemed to lack any flavor and the bathrooms were in shoddy condition, to top it all off they did not have any good craft beer on draft. On two occasions they put cheese on my food after I explained 3 to 5 times I'm allergic both times. I have been here a few Thursday already with some friends always eating on the restaurant side ... never even knew they had a bar side . the music the dj was play was a mix of good music but I was surpise that the bar side only had a few people in it with a live dj playing banging music . the food is great & the staff seem to be nice . If you want Dominican food this is the place you need to go to. I lived in Maryland for 3 years and looked everywhere for a good Dominican restaurant (New York Style) to find out the best Dominican restaurant in MD was only 15 mins away from me. I love their beef stew with white rice and pinto beans. I also order pastelitos, fried cheese and salami (insane how this is the only place I know that has hispanic frying cheese and salami). Another favorite of mine is the bacalao guisado with rice and beans. When I took my husbands family with me they ordered Yuca Frita and Fried Pork. I was eager to try this restaurant and was glad to be able to get a Groupon. When we go there, we ordered bifsteak, maduro, and fajitas. The bifsteak was good, but the fajitas and maduro was horribly greasy. Then the waitress didn't deduct the Groupon from our bill; we were told the waitresses would leave both the check and the Groupon for the manager. Constant busy signal attempting to place carry out phone order on Sunday May 29th. I was offered to place an online order but was then denied by when the website stated that the online ordering service was not "enabled". Called back on Thursday 6/2/16 - phone did ring this time but no one answered after about 25 rings - then it just disconnected. Called back again and this time someone answered. I asked to speak with the Manager. When speaking with the Manager I was trying to be helpful by sharing the experience so as to improve their business. Manager showed no interest in my observations - but tersely asked me if I wanted to place an order? Due to her tone and uninterested manner - I was no longer interested in placing an order if she was not interested in my customer feedback or experience. All the food is Great !!!!!!!. I worked in Jessup a few years ago right around the corner from the restaurant and I loved it. My kind of food. I grew up with Rice and Beans everyday. I wish the restaurant was next door to me now I would be there best customer .All their food is reasonable priced. I met a friend at the restaurant for lunch in great anticipation of trying the chicharron de pollo, which I had enjoyed immensely at a Peruvian restaurant in Puerto Rico and which is very hard to find anywhere in Maryland (there was a place in Gaithersburg at which I was able to try some okay chicharron de pollo last year). However, I do not think that the waitress and I were ever on the same page. She was a little difficult to understand, but I thought we were communicating nevertheless. I told the waitress what I wanted --- in fact, I pointed to it on the menu --- and she informed me that with skin on it could be greasy but there was a skinless option. I thought the "greasy" option was what I wanted because I believe chicharron de pollo is normally prepared with the skin on. Anyway, I said go with it. We definitely weren't on the same page because what I got --- and i didn't know until I received the bill --- was chicharron de cerdo, which is a pork dish. It was hard to tell what I was eating because it was so greasy (many of the pieces were almost solid fat!). My friend even tried a piece and couldn't tell what it was. What got my attention was the price I was charged, which was $2 more than the menu price. She implied that what I ate was what she thought I ordered, so rather than cause a big scene, I paid the bill. I did let her know that I had really been counting on trying the chicharron de pollo and that now I will not know how theirs was. In addition to this experience, the overall service was mediocre. In her defense, she might have been trying to handle several customers. On a positive note, my friend ordered a chicken burrito, which was huge and apparently very good. My fried yucca was surprisingly better than I was expecting, as I had never had any before. The moral: Be very careful to make sure that what you order is understood completely so that you are served and charged for the correct item. read more

Beware! Worst customer service ever! Went yesterday, Sunday October 16, amd waited one hour and half for the food, and the food never arrived! Im not kidding! More than an hour and nobody in the restaurant, that was full, got food. The waitress excused, after waiting for so long time and need it to call her was that there was only one person in the kitchen, and that was the owner problem.
