This is one of places that are close to my work and hence convenient for me to grab lunch with colleagues. Its not very fancy place but I liked the authentic music that they play. Service is usually slow because they are shorthanded. I think there are only two waitresses, so it can be a pickle if there's rush but usually its 10 - 15 min wait. The food is okay-ish. Being vegetarian, I usually get veggie Quesadilla which is greasy so I get it without cheese. I love their yuca frita and plantains. The house salad is always fresh and crunchy. read more

I went to Cazabe on the insistence of my manager Jesus, he swore the goat was better than what I was getting from Negril. Jesus was right! The flavor was outstanding, the meat was tender and delectable. It definitely has a different taste than the negril dish in a good way. It is a little expensive for the size of the portion but I enjoyed it so no complaints. I want to go at night when they have a band playing, it looks like it gets lit in there. Discovering a place like Cazabe is like finding a diamond in a rough. This is exactly why I love to try new restaurants. The exterior is plain and uninviting but the interior and service is pleasant. It serves dominican foods. I tried the goat stew, Chivo Guisado Picante with white rice, salad, and bean. It is quite amazing. No goat smell. The goat meat is tender, falling out of the bone, flavorful, and perfectly blend of spices. The rice is cooked in a bit of oil, soft with good texture. My husband ordered Shrimp in creamy butter garlic sauce. The succulent shrimps were swimming in the creamy buttery garlicky sauce. Did I tell you I love the naturally sweetend fried plantain? I went to New York earlier this week and tried tostones for the 1st time and fell in love. Came home just craving for it even tempted to make my own but it was a bit late so I decided to order near by. Since it was late Cazabe was the only restaurant open that would deliver. I see they only have 3 stars and no updated comments so I still gave it a try. I really wanted suya and fried plantains but taquitos are one of my faves too. I don't know what was going on with the delivery but it took longer than an hour which I was confused because the items I ordered are sides/appetizers so you would think no longer than 30-40 minutes. Once I got my food it was a bit cold and I noticed no type of hot sauces for my food. I'm glad I only ordered one plate of plantains, they give you a lot and the taquitos was just plain ones with sour cream but tasty once I warmed it up. I probably won't be goin here again only as a back up and then I would just go pick it up. I really want to give a 3.5 instead of just 3 but I'm not sure how so yeah. read more

Yes, just ok. In my opinion the only good in the menu is the "tostones". I brought my husband one time for dinner and that is it. Because I chose something from the menu that it comes with sweet plantains, platanos maduros, and I switched for tostones I got charged extra. And because of that I took the difference from the tip. Stopped in for a quick lunch and was not disappointed with food. Ordered the fried queso, yum. Crispy, crunchy, gooey wonderfulness. Came in on a sunday with Family. First bad sign: the place was empty. if food is good then a restaurant is usually full of people. Ordered drinks and the waitress served the beer hot. Had to ask for utensils and napkins and sauce and ice. This place has a hodgepodge of Dominican and Tex-Mex dishes. But I would focus on the Dominican dishes like the Mofongo, Chicken Stew, Cod Stew, and Goat Stew. The Fajitas is good if you are the mood. I like the Shrimp Mofongo which is not on the menu but available upon request. read more

Service here was "almost" terrible. Almost. I came inside and saw the 1 and only waitress there, occupied. So I waited. And waited. And waited... And waited.. Then she saw me and sat me down. Yay! For about 5 minutes more and was about to leave when she finally came and gave me a water and asked if I was ready. There were about 4 other tables that were occupied and she was the only person working the restaurant. Hence why I understood and had a greater tolerance than usual. It was tempting to order their Mofongo because that dish looked HUGE! But I saw the had Goat Stew and I'm a sucker for Lamb/Goat dishes. So I ordered the Goat Stew with Rice & Beans. Thankfully it didn't take long and when I got my food... It was on! Post workout meal? Oh yes! Did a back workout too? Yeeeeeeeeeeahhhhh! The Goat Stew was juicy, succulent and tasty. The portion wasn't big but the flavors were on point. Unfortunately, there was no bone marrow to be found. :( The Rice alone was alright and the beans alone was okay but pouring the beans over the rice made it into a fantastic combination. Cliche yeah? Yes, but I'm serious about this particular place. The rice and beans together was great by itself but with the Goat Stew too? Ahhhh man! It would have sucked if I left the place so thank you Miss Waitress for not letting me down at the last second! The worst part of the service was when she asked if I wanted a check and I said yes. I don't know how long it took but throughout the whole visit, I was there for just over 2 hours..... I was by myself and only ordered 1 dish and that took 2 hours... Thankfully, the owner of the place decided to talk to me. Either because I was by my self and every other table had at least 2 people or because I was taking pictures of the dish. But none the less, he was a great guy and we had a great conversation about Dominican cuisine and culture. I understand that not every waiter/waitress is aware of what they're supposed to do. The waitress I had was taking her leisurely time, flaunting her curvy body as she was slowly walking to her destination. I'm assuming she doesn't fully understand the ways of a waitress and what they should do in a restaurant because she would walk around like she was in some beauty contest. It was interesting, to say the least. I didn't mind, I actually enjoyed it but being there for 2 hours wasn't necessary. I finally got my check, paid and thankfully, she came back quickly. Quiet location, easy to find, plenty of parking, quaint little exterior, nice enough decor inside, separate bar area in the back, and the wait staff is really friendly. Those are the good things... Cazabe identifies itself as a "Dominican" restaurant, but other than the house specialty of Mofongo, nothing else on the entire menu is identifiably Dominican. The rest of the menu is Half Tex-Mex (fajita's, etc...) and the other Half, bizarrely enough, is populated with Italian dishes like linguini with clam sauce. I purposely didn't mention the Paella that's on the menu as being Dominican because no one in the Dominican Republic would mistake this dish for actual Paella... The Paella wasn't cooked in a Paella pan because the socarrat, (crust), that forms at the bottom of traditional Paella was noticeably missing. What we got was fluffy rice tossed with a little seafood sprinkled with a little non-smoked paprika and saffron for color. It wasn't horrible, but he result tasted more like Chinese food than Dominican Paella. My advice for this place would be: Solve your identity crisis by taking the Italian dishes off your menu entirely and replace them with ethnic Dominican/Caribbean entrees and appetizers. Then cook your dishes in the traditional manner with traditional recipes and spices. People will travel long distances for a good authentic ethnic restaurant. Especially if it's serving an ethnic cuisine that can't be found anywhere nearby "like Dominican/Caribbean". This place has the right idea for the area, they just need to execute their menu selection better and teach the kitchen staff how to cook real Dominican food. read more

Was in Jessup for a visit and the folks at Comfort Inn recommended Cazabe since it was a block away. I ordered for dinner the Penne Allan vodka cream sauce was very good but had the slight vodka afterburn in the throat (apparently not all of the alcohol was evaporated during the cooking). I also had the taco salad with a very crispy taco shell, very good. Decor is basic but inviting. For a Sunday night, the clientele was very light (three other tables had guests). The waitress had English as a second language and slight difficulty in understanding some of my questions. If you speak Spanish, no problems. read more

So I went back to this place again on Saturday with my husband, daughter, my sister & her family. I am still not impressed with this place. I had the mofongo con masitas de cerdo. The mofongo was dry & flavorless. The masitas de cerdo were fried very hard (normally that wouldn't be a problem with me) but they didn't have much flavor to them. Me being Puerto Rican & mofongo actually being a Puerto Rican dish, I was quite disappointed. I can consistently make better mofongo than this. The food here is mediocre at best. A friend introduced me to this place, been there twice now and have not been disappointed. Had the chicken breast the first time with rice, plantains, and the house salad. This last time, I had the goat, delicious, juicy, and with plenty of salsa! Truly tasted homemade:-) And their rice was on point. I hidden gem in MD. I'm new to the area and was looking for authentic Spanish food. I was a little skeptical to try the restaurant because of some of the reviews. I'm glad I didn't listen to them. Went here the other day for dinner, all in all I will say the experience was.. ok. I would possibly go back but not in a rush. The staff was polite and very helpful, but they would sometimes disappear for periods of time. This doesn't bother me that much if the food is good, but that's not for everyone so keep that in mind. The dinning room was a decent size, so if you came with a party I don't think space would be an issue. They also have a bar/ lounge area if you don't want a table and looking for more of a bar atmosphere. I didn't stay in the bar this time but they did have happy hour specials that seemed like they would be worth checking out. We started off with the taquitos, they tasted pretty good but could have used a little bit more flavor in my opinion. They weren't the best taquitos I've had but I would get them again if I were to come back. For dinner I tried the mofongo w/ pork, the mashed plantains were a little dry but the meal as a whole was good. The pork was very flavorful and had a crispy outside which was a big plus to me! The portion size was just enough, I actually ended up taking home leftovers. I felt Cazabe was pretty good and their prices are reasonable; wasn't the best Dominican food I've had but its definitely worth checking out if you're in the area. read more

This is another first for me as far as Dominican food goes and I cant complain. I tried the Mofongo and I enjoyed it although I wish I had asked for more sauce considering theres so much to eat you could share with someone if both of you arent super hungry or watching what you eat. Me and my hubby to be ate hear a couple of hours ago and we really didn't enjoy the food and the customer service was not all that great. There was no wait to be seated, there was 2 other couples there when we arrived. I asked about a sauce that on the menu and the server didn't know what was in the sauce and had to ask someone else and then a gentlemen came to our table and said do you have a question, so I repeated my question. So, we then decided to get something simple like a Burrito but it was not flavorful at all. The beans seem dry and the rice didn't taste fresh either. Our server didn't thank us for coming in when she brought the credit card slip for signature. Not a fancy place, but I did feel like I was in the Caribbean more than on route one. Food was very tasty and served fast. To my surprise the mofongo came with fried chicken on the side and the sauce already on top. The mofongo was super soggy by the time I had it and the chicken was not much better. I drive by this place a few times a week on my way home, but I was always turned off by the neon exterior. I saw a Livingsocial deal and decided to give it a try. Once I got past the front door, I was very pleasantly surprised. The setting is simple, but clean and not cluttered. The waitstaff were all friendly and helpful when making menu selections. I ordered the Penne Alla Vodka with crabmeat and my boyfriend has a beef dish. Both our meals were delicious. After eating I had resolved to give the restaurant a solid 4 stars, taking off a star for the rough exterior, but our waitress came over and told us that our Livingsocial deal was good for $42 and we had only spent $30 (the coupon said 2 entrees and 2 drinks) then she brought us a menu and suggested we pick something to take home. We ended getting cheesecake and chocolate mousse, both in good proportion. If you're willing to tough it out past the sketchy outside, this place is definitely worth a try. read more
