Agree with Wiley. Food is decent and if it's not busy the service is fine. This restaurant has advertised on TV for awhile now. They need to get their game in gear for when lots of people come in though. They are semi-rude when they are short-handed and obviously dissapoint people like me and Wiley who stop in to eat once in awhile. I'm sorry they are busy and I cannot speak to the fantabulous service they "usually" deliver, but I can only speak to how they act the 3 times I've been there. I'll give them two stars for the nice decor and that the biscuits, bacon and eggs are good. However the pancakes were probably reheated and all the fruit was microwaved out of a freezer bag. I simply don't understand why these people advertise. One of the few places in Redding that actually has commercials on TV asking people to come to their restaurant. But, when you get there, they act totally indifferent and ignore you and/or feel like you're an annoyance to them just to be served. Food is not bad. I've gone there three times expecting things to be different. I won't be back ever again. To the owners.......Save your money on advertising. Went there with my family while visiting and the owner/waitress was so rude and unprofessional. She yelled across the restaurant that we would just have to wait by the door until she could find us a set because she was not opening the back room. Then she told us (there were 5 of us) that she "didn't think we could fit at a square table because one of our guest were heavy. well we took the table and were just fine. Then she tried to change her tune. The sandwiches were pretty good, and the onion rings were great. But the service was terrible and it is a place we will not be going back to. read more

After coming here for breakfast and sometimes lunch, everyday for 4 months, I have to give this place a 6 star review, Susan, Angela, Carole, and the rest of the staff are awesome. Cedar Tree is the kind of place where you see the same dozen or so cars out front every morning. A fellow reviewer mad a good observation about how advertising for this place was a little redundant as the customer base is super loyal, but if you drop in to try it out, you are treated a little like an outsider. Not rude or anything, just 'you ain't from round these parts' kind of feeling. The food is mehhhoookay. I've only ever been there for breakfast. If you want to know what it's like, imagine your whole extended family unexpectedly stopped by and you ran to out Costco to get bulk food to serve them breakfast in the morning. It would taste exactly like that. It's not bad, not good, just food. The service is fair to friendly, Not bad, not good, just service. I always judge how good service is in breakfast places are by how full they keep your coffee. Cedar Tree lets your coffee get down to the last sip, but it never gets empty. So being a PC resident, it's really close proximity which puts me on just barely on the positive side. If I were coming from Redding, I think I'd say it's not worth the drive. read more

I usually leave positive reviews and comments on restaurants, yet Cedar Tree has been VERY dissapointing the past 3 times we have been in for a good meal. My grandmother and I had been in twice for breakfast each time being served burnt toast or bacon. Dinner is much too overpriced considering the quality and quantity. Took my wife to Cedar Tree for Mother's day today. Waited 45 minutes to get our food, they were busy, watched three other couples that showed up at least 15 Minutes after we did got there food. When our order finally showed up, my wife's special (Eggs Benedict) the eggs were way over cooked like hard boiled eggs and my Chicken Fried Steak and scramble eggs was cold, as was the Eggs Benedict, like it had been sitting for a while. The waitress notice the Eggs Benedict over cooked and offered no solution other than sorry about that. Really!!! What happened to this place? We will not go back. read more

I have never been to a restaurant with waitresses so rude in my entire life. they were snotty, unhelpful, and chastised my family for seating ourselves, even tho the sign said to seat ourselves!!! They then made our family move twice despite having a handicapped grandmother who clearly doesn't walk well. They were rude when taking our order and acted put-out when my seven year old daughter couldn't decide between apple juice or hot chocolate. They also told my grandmother "that's funny I eat it every day" when my grandmother told them the bacon was so salty she couldn't eat it. Maybe you need to be a local to get friendly service at this restaurant. Wait, I am a local, maybe they just didn't know I live around the corner and could have been a repeat customer. Food was hit and miss, pricing kind on the high side. Noticed a lot of staff change. Was surprised when the owner charged an extra $1 for a change to Sour dough toast per slice! When we spoke to her about it we got ATTITYDE. All I could do to keep hubby from putting her in her place. Have heard the same from many other people about this owner. Been meaning to try this place out for years and finally made it today, wish I had gone when I first heard about it. Had a great French Dip sandwich today with French Fries. The only thing that I didn't like,(and was because of personal taste, not a problem) was the French Fries, they were home fries, and I don't like them with the skins still on them.. Service was prompt and polite, my drink was refilled each time it got to about an inch from the bottom. An to top it off the check wasn't that high, Definitely going back again. read more

We love this place. We go often. We also frequent cedar tree. The food is amazing. I have 2 children and my parents who usually join us. The last few visits have been horrendous. Not by the food or atmosphere, but by the new waitress. It seems as if she may have worked there before but has come back after sometime??? Not sure. But the experience is so awful that we have discussed not continuing to dine there. We are very easy going people and have much praise and support for the people in the food service industry these days. People are hard to please now a days!!!! With that being said... We have determined that this waitress is harrasing us. SHE IS AWFUL. So baffling. The second we walk in she throws down a crazy attitude. I cannot even explain the things she has done. Tonight after forgetting my moms salad, which is fine. No big deal. And then my mom asking her for it.... No joke... She brings back a plate with a little bit of lettuce and half a bottle of dressing on it. She throws/slams/slides the plate in front of her... Hitting her dinner plate sitting in front of her. U cannot even eat the darn thing unless you want to eat a bottle of salad dressing. That is one example. I could give you several more of just this evening. I am completley shocked this is allowed or even that she is in the industry. One of our favorite places and I really dont think we will go back anytime soon. We do not want to go to dinner and spend our hard earned money to be disrespected and completley ruin our evening when we can be treated better somewhere else. Side note..... I appreciate the hard work that waitress' and waiters endure. They deserve their tips! This is a hard job. People are so critical now a days! This was the first time in my life I chose not to leave a tip. 0. Nada. Nothing. This is after more than 4 times enduring her service. I made that decision. I really hope she can strive to do better. Been here several times. Food has always been good. Today with friends, food was good but service the worst!! Looked like the owner by herself completely stressed out trying to help too many people and answer phones with not enough help! We were not in a hurry, but sat forever waiting. Not that big of deal, until she finally took our order. When she brought our food, she was all stressed out and asked everyone who had what. We sat with empty coffee cups; not even the pony-tailed bus boy noticed or would bring us coffee. When she finally refilled our cups, she poured it all over the table hurrying too fast; and never said a word, except for throwing napkins on me. She slung our plates at us. Child ordered strawberry pancakes, but got regular. We asked to add strawberries and the lady seemed like she was going to blow a gasket. Strawberries added, but child said they were frozen and gross. One adult ordered the special on the board, but got charged full price and portion was very small. Just an explanation like, "Everybody called in sick" and I'm sorry would have helped us understand. read more

I've eaten at the Cedar Tree many times it's food is OK. On two occasions, the owner herself has been a bit unbending. Once, she would not let my Granddaughter substitute two sausage for two pieces of bacon. She seemed irritated by a noisy child at another table that had just left The last time was plain uncalled for. My wife and I came in and sat at a table for four stating we were meeting with two others. Once they had arrived they said two more adults and an infant were joining us. When we told the owner we needed to move to a table for six plus and infant she rolled her eyes as if this was an inconvenience even thought there were only three other tables with other customers. She moved us and we while we waited for the others to arrive we had coffee. It still was not crowded. After about ten minutes the owner came to us and said we needed to order now and that she would take the new arrivals order once they got here. She made some excuse that her cook was slow as if that was why we needed to odder then rather than wait for our guests. We did as she asked but everyone at our table was bothered by our treatment and agreed we would most likely not return. As it turned out, we were finished with our meals before that last arrivals finished theirs so we waited. All the while, the restaurant never did fill. I really don't know why we were rushed other than maybe Susan was grumpy that day. Regardless, we did not appreciate our treatment thus she has lost six future customers. Had this only happened just once I would have chalked it up to having a bad day. Twice in my mind is not acceptable therefore I won't be returning. Sorry Susan, I feel bad about this review and waited a week before writing it to make sure I wasn't over reacting but I feel you should know why we aren't coming in anymore. I am very disappointed and upset with Cedar Tree in Palo Cedro. I don't normally post stuff like this however I need to express my disappointment. My boyfriend and I stopped by this morning for breakfast after a night on the lake. While waiting the HOUR for our breakfast to get to us, a very nice couple gave us their extra coupon for $10 off with a purchase of 2 meals. FYI service there sucks! We waited one hour for eggs and pancakes! It was awesome to see everyone else (the usual customers) served before us. When we finally were able to eat our meals and were ready to pay our check with the coupon, our waitress informed us we could not use the coupon because "we were not car people." No where on the coupon did it say you had to be a car person to use the coupon! It doesn't matter if they gave us the coupon in the parking lot or the actual car event, Cedar Tree should honor the certificates THEY hand out! I know it is a lot of fuss over a damn coupon. Btw our waitress was the owner. I guess as the owner you can make and break your own rules. 1 star is generous!! read more

Waitress took our order right away, the place was pretty full so I was expecting a good meal. Over priced for what I got. My sandwich was so tiny and lacked flavor, the salad was very plain and it was the deluxe version. When the bill came, it was a shock, the cola was $3.59, unheard of anywhere. I've been here several times when I'm in town visiting family. The service has been friendly and attentive. The food is country fare- simple, hearty and enjoyable. We have enjoyed the pancakes and omelettes for breakfast. The fried potatoes are a splurge but are worth it. They are crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. It's always filled with locals and has interesting decor on the wall. read more
