I wanted to like this place, I really did. The only reason I gave it one star was because I had to in order to post this review. Because of all the good reviews we decided to try the Cedar Cafe last night. Horrible experience. We began with the pick 3 starter and chose falafel, baba ganaouj and grape leaves. There were two on the plate - my friend's was cold and mine burning hot - it had clearly been nuked?? I have never had hot grape leaves before never mind ones that have been microwaved. I have had better falafel on the streets of NYC. The only "star" of that plate was the baba ganaouj. For dinner we shared Evelyn's Shawarma described as "tender, shredded sirloin slowly cooked on a rotisserie. They forgot to add that it is finished in the microwave. This dish was dry, tough, tasteless and like my grape leave, burning hot - something that only happens when a dish is nuked. And where was that great basmati rice?? Certainly not on our plate. And then there was the service or lack there of. Our waiter never took dishes or glasses away from our small table. Nor was he proactive in refilling wine glasses. At the end of dinner I decided to advise him of the problems with our food. To which he replied in an extremely condescending and arrogant voice " but you finished everything, didn't you?". Which we did not. I then questioned him about the rice not being basmati and his reply was "it is but I couldn't find the bag in the kitchen to show you". When my friend asked that he package the salad to go his response was " So there is nothing wrong with the salad?" (of course not, it's a salad, would be pretty hard to screw that up) Not a pleasant dining experience at all. Unbelievable that the Cedar Cafe advertises that everything is fresh and cooked to order. I guess that means frozen fresh and pre-portioned and then cooked to your order in the microwave. Definitely not worth the time or money. This little "gem" has alot of flaws. read more

We had a great meal at Cedars Cafe last night (Saturday.) Our party of six included picky eaters ("no spices") but everyone raved about it. I had the Chicken Shish Taouk, 2 skewers of grilled marinated chicken. My buddy had the Lamb version. Both were delicious. This is probably the most welcoming and friendly restaurant I've ever found. None of us were real familiar with Lebanese cooking, and we asked a lot of questions, yet the wait staff gave good descriptions and put us all at ease. We were offered sample sips of various wines in small plastic cups. We had reservations and our table was ready on time. They have only 8-10 tables, and all were taken during the evening, though we never saw a line. I really like that they don't cram the tables together. I'm a big eater, yet even I was surprised at the portion sizes. Plates were piled high with Plenty o' Food. And that basmati rice with some kind of white topping is delicious!. We had and assortment of baklavas for dessert - some were light, some heavier - and all were good. It's an hour from our home in Orlando, but I'm sure we will return soon. read more

Delish food, helpful staff! Make reservations and make them well in advance (early in the day), small space/limited seating. Food is bought and cooked fresh so when they run out of food, you're outta luck. Great for vegetarians. I do want to add that because of the small space/limited seating, it's difficult to have a private or intimate conversation with your dinner mate because the tables are so very close you really hear everything being said by the tables surrounding you. So, though the ambiance is intimate/romantic, it's not likely to happen. read more

In Melbourne, if you want real, quality ethnic food, you're gonna go hungry... FAST. This are is a culinary wasteland. But then you find Cedar. Truly excellent. Everything is made from scratch, and amazing. Their hours as written on the door are essentially "until we run out of food". That os because they actually MAKE their food, rather than selling frozen junk. The only problem is that you really need to get reservations early or they may not be able to seat you... This place was soooo good! The dolmas were amazing. I didn't quite care for the hummus because it was VERY heavy in garlic and lemon but it was ok. The owner is the cook and her mom is the server (atleast tonight). I just asked her what the best thing was on the menu and I wasn't dissapointed. I had some chicken skewer with a delicious rice topped with pine nuts and some other goodness as well as a really great greek salad and they weren't stingy on the feta. They brought a complimentary piece of baklava for dessert. This was way better than the McDonalds, Wendys or Outback by my hotel. The food here is really great the price is here not so much. Our family really loves a grape leaves they are perfect. The portions are very large so you would always have leftovers. I've been visiting the Post Commons strip mall for years, and never even noticed the unassuming storefront for Cedars Cafe! But with all the great reviews, and a fan of Mediterranean food in the family, we had to check it out. Inside, the decor makes the most of a small indoor dining area. At lunchtime on a sunny day, it felt warm and cozy. We started with a pick 3 for $8.50. The house-made baba ganoush, was smoky, fresh, and served with plenty of pita. The stuffed grape leaves were a little on the salty side but satisfyingly lemony. And the falafel was well-made save for an odd slightly bitter taste. I would definitely order the baba ganoush and grape leaves again. I could eat a whole bowl of that smoky eggplant dip! The bean soup contains 16 types of beans, we were told, and had a savory, cinnamony flavor that was tasty and comforting. For entrees, we tried the gyro and shish taouk wrap. I loved the combo of the melt in your mouth lamb with feta and onion. My companion noted that although she typically finds lamb gamey, this was not so. We loved the garlic sauce in the shish taouk wrap. With the marinated chicken, it packed a punch! The waitstaff were cool, attentive, and answered all our questions. Everyone else in the cafe seemed to be having a great time. The only reason I deducted a star is because I spend most of the year in a place with a lot more ethnic food available, where the competition really pushes the standards up high. In Melbourne though, this was a great find. This small space features fantastic food, great service, and a comforting atmosphere. Shame on Cedars, and especially those that actually wrote a review. I made a very big mistake, normally ask if the gyro's (lamb and beef slices) is from the spit which is packaged as a large cone, or the poor substitute pre cut, pre packaged and dirt cheap. Mistake number one was reading reviews, mistake number two never did ask about the lamb slices. The Greek salad consisted of lettuce, tomato, feta cheese, pita bread (atrocious), green olives, prepackaged tasteless gyro , and more lettuce. Cost to the restaurant is probably $3 and my bill was $12.50 for the large salad. Actually the large means more lettuce, left hungry, disillusioned, and ripped off. The wine list is non existent, they have a small selection, with pricing at $26,$28, who knows? what ever price they can get that day, amazed how this place can stay in business. Note : the excuse for the lack of selection on Lebanese wine, is well they have a war you know! If you really want to go to that side of town, at least spend less and go next door to Panera bread. Normally would say that was 60 minutes I can never take back in my life, but we did have good friends with us and we were all polite and never mentioned this experience. On a positive note plenty of parking due to a very large strip mall, normal spaces, the lines are diagonal and painted white. read more

This place used to be wonderful. Not sure what happened. I went with a friend recently and some of our food was okay, some was good and some was horrible. I was served a tabouli which was inedible. It was drenched in lemon juice and salt. They have a vegetarian dish which I think was called an Artichoke Shawarma which was good. We got an appetizer of the Baba which was okay but it comes with pieces of pita bread that are cold and not fresh. One thing a Lebanese restaurant should have is freshly made pita. Another thing they should have is fresh mint tea. If you want mint tea, they hand you a tea bag. read more

This is truly and outstanding restaurant. The Mediterranean food is the best I have found in the SW United States. The owner family and their staff are wonderful, warm and caring. Not only is the food truly flavorful, fresh and enjoyable; it is amazingly inexpensive. My wife and I go there 2-3 times a month and enjoy trying different items on the menu. I have never had better tabouli anywhere. read more

My wife and I went in just to check it out. We had an amazing dinner while sitting outside. She ordered a gyro with a side of rice and I had a shush kebob on rice. In a battle of dinner, I must say that I won. The meat on the shush kebob was cooked perfect. And the rice! They put a special garlic sauce in the rice that is amazing. I'm in love with this restaurant! I'm an enormous fan of garlic and they know how to use it! The food is incredibly fresh and always perfectly seasoned. I mean seriously don't touch it, it's perfect. And one of the things that I love most is that their chef, who's an adorable girl in a bandana who sometimes even delivers your masterpieces to your table. If you love Garlic ... you will love Cedars, if not stay away. We dined at Cedars with another couple. We enjoyed the meal but did not find their food any better than Skewers, which is our standby for Lebanese/Greek/Middle Eastern cuisine. Just about every dish from hummus, to Lamb Shish Taouk was loaded with garlic. Not a little bit of garlic, not a moderate amount of garlic, but a ton of garlic. I like garlic but this was a little much for me. The other dinners in our party felt the same way. As for price Cedars is more expensive than Skewers but not by a huge margin. Our server friendly and helpful. I wish our ice teas and waters were refreshed more frequently. I did not get to try their Gyro... something I will be back for when I am in the area. This is not a huge restaurant and on the Friday we went there most every table was full. If dining at Cedars in prime time.. a reservation is a good idea. read more

We tried this restaurant for the first time and the food was excellent. I had the flatbread pizza with goat cheese and figs, it was delicious. My husband got the roasted chicken over rice. The food is great and very authentic. The only problem is the place is way too small. You have to get a reservation and you feel a bit crowded in there. The vegetarian meal was excellent. Great flavor. Adequate quantity. The service left a great deal to be desired. We were offered 2 choices for dessert..rice pudding or baklava. Two of us, who ordered rice pudding were told, in an unpalatable tone, that the rice pudding was no longer available. ( The remaining 2 servings were given to the table next to us.) After settling on the baklava, we were served pieces of quasi baklava which were very small..as in Tootsie roll size and one piece the size of one of those frozen cream puffs you might find in the freezers at Sams club or Costco. The dessert experience was very disappointing, equal to the lack of concern demonstrated by the wait staff. For the price of the food here, I expected much more than was delivered. If you are looking for an experience commensurate with the cost of food, dont eat here. Not worth it. read more

This was the first Mediterranean I have visited and the bar was set so high nothing else compares, it is always a let down. This is hands down the BEST Garlic Sauce I have tried, I would eat it with a spoon its so yummy. I did call and make a reservation - their hours are very limited for dinner service (5-8) and the restaurant is very cozy. Our server was just fantastic; very attentive without hovering. I ordered the beef shawarma and my mom had lamb skewers. I also tried the mulberry lemonade. The Chef is also very involved with her restaurant; she greats and chats with diners and everyone that works there is just super friendly. I am in love with this place!!!! Came in on a weekday around 2pm for late lunch and there was a family, a businessman, and a couple elder ladies so it's a good place for everyone. It's a cozy environment. Didn't know anything about the restaurant but the waitress said she's never had a customer complain about the food. I tried the pick 3 and my mom had a wrap. The food was a great price and delicious. We have visited Cedars every year to sample their competition Blended Burger and have always been very impressed. We went a few days ago to try the latest entry and were extremely disappointed. This year it is "just a burger". The burger is about half the size that it has been in the past, just so-so in taste and is $17.50. This is not an award winning dish.
