We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Cedars ! Not a lot of good restaurants have salad bars any more and theirs is fantastically yummy and fresh! Really good ingredients and toppings, was so impressed by the sweet n spicy walnuts that the chef offered to give me the recipes, so cool! Enjoyed the steamed clams with my salad and talk about a delicious broth, super flavorful. My dining mates ordered the crab artichoke dip and the scallops, which the loved and raves about. The clams and mussels were delicious!! Highly recommend. I liked the clams more than the mussels but yum! My mom loved the potato leek soup and my dad and I devoured our clam chowders with the super great bread. Hubby enjoyed the salad bar immensely. Although I bit into a shell in my soup... My halibut was worth it, but I couldn't stand the spices on the rice although my mom loved the rice so to each his own. My dads crab legs were comparable to outback, not better and not worse and about the same price. My moms salmon was amazing. Overall happy experience! Got to watch the sunset. BE CAUTIOUS & READ COMMENTS: Our first time at the Floating Restaurant. We travel and eat out a lot, at higher end restaurants. We love good food and service! SERVICE-Our reservation was for 7:15pm and we were seated on time. Our waitress was "OK" but she seemed a bit "pushy" when we ordered. Just not real "friendly" for some reason. It was our first time there, prices are hefty, so we had a few questions about the menu items. Maybe that bothered her?? We asked for bread because otherwise you don't get it (per the menu). After we asked for bread, she never brought it (and she acknowledged our request), so we had to ask the busboy and he brought it. Our server was just "OK" and our busboy was very good. He kept our table cleared and was very nice. Brought me an extra napkin too. Nice kid. FOOD- Food came in reasonable time. We had the $40 prime rib, which was fair. Mashed potatoes weren't hot enough and tasted bland. Salad bar was good with lots of variety. Problem with salad bar area was, they had cleaning gear (broom with dirty dust pan, bucket with dirty water and a rag in it and other stuff) right next to the salad bar. I like cleanliness, but keep the cleaning gear out of sight please. Our bill came to $117 (food w/ two drinks) for two of us. We tipped our waitress $22.00 - total $139.00. For the amount of money and overall experience we rated this place a 3. We travel and eat out a lot, so we have a lot of experience with higher end restaurants. Perfect Fathers Day meal. Table was perfect, we were seated immediately and service was good. I actually liked the new CV salad bar service. Bloody Mary's were also very good. The mushroom Flatbread was amazing, best thing we ordered by far. Salad bar guy didn't seem to be in a very good mood, was rude to the customers, had his nose outside of his mask. Prime rib, while not legendary, was serviceable. Lobster was slightly overcooked. Have you ever walked into a place and thought, "Geezzzzzz! When was the last time this place had a makeover??" That was the first thing that popped into my head when we walked through the dining room. This place is NOT retro chic; it's shabby and dingy. The carpet, tables and chairs definitely need to be upgraded. My husband asked me what I thought of the restaurant and it occurred to me that it really reminded me of Ponderosa Steakhouse! Remember the salad bar with the sneeze guard? Well, Cedars still has one. Ick! Also, despite my husband requesting patio seating to celebrate our anniversary, we got stuck in the corner by the kitchen. He wasn't happy. After being seated, we were immediately served glasses of water by our busser, who was very sweet. Do not drink the water! It tastes like lake water with a chlorine tablet in it. I have to give Cedars credit for their menus: they are digital. That can be really helpful if you have a hard time reading small print. But, the menu choices are very limited. You've got steak or seafood. There's one pasta dish. There are zero vegetarian options. Fifteen minutes after we were seated, we were given bread (it was good) and our server came by to take our drink and food order. I ordered the scallops ($36) and my husband ordered the salmon Oscar ($38). We waited another 10 minutes for our drinks to come and then another 20 minutes after that for our food. I think the long wait was to give us time to visit the salad bar. When you order dinner, you are given the option of making a trip to the salad bar or having a bowl of clam chowder before your dinner is served. My husband chose the salad bar and seemed really happy with the choices available and the quality of the food. The salad bar made me nervous, so I chose the clam chowder. It was not a very sophisticated clam chowder; it could have used some white wine and leeks. BUT, it was full of bacon and clams so I enjoyed it, even if it wasn't very exciting. I was not happy with the quantity or quality of my dinner. I received five scallops, two strips of under-cooked bacon, cold mashed potatoes and three asparagus spears. It was just silly how little food I got considering the price. My husband liked his dish. He said the salmon and crab were cooked correctly. We both agreed the asparagus was good, but like me, he barely got any (he lucked out with four spears instead of three). He said the Béarnaise sauce had zero flavor. We were offered dessert but decided to skip it. I visited the bathroom before we left and that's when the experience went from three stars to two. The women's bathroom is so grungy!! One of the porcelain toilet tank lids split in two and instead of replacing it, they glued it back together! The glue has become yellow with age; not what I want to see when I'm paying almost $40 an entree! The toilet seat was so old and worn, it reminded me of a truck stop. The mirror frame is chipped and there is splattered blue paint everywhere, from when they tried to spruce up the bathroom. I know this is picky but when you pay high-end prices for a meal, the bathrooms should reflect the menu prices. Restaurant bathrooms are also a pet peeve of mine. After working in restaurants for most of my 20's, I've come to the conclusion that bathrooms almost always reflect the state of the kitchen. That bathroom really gave me pause. I think this place is popular because of the views of the water and because so many people have always come here. I think they need to stop resting on their laurels and up their game to justify the food prices. Having said all that, I would still recommend a visit BUT only for a drink. The view from the patio is awesome and the drink prices are reasonable. I'd skip everything else. My husband did want me to mention that there's plenty of parking, so at least there's that! read more

Two years later go back for that good meal at Cedars and came away very disappointed. My suggestion, don't bother with the early bird meal menu apparently the price has risen to 5$ less then the regular menu items and your meal will be far inferior. We had the Salmon and were given half of what $5 more on the regular menu would get you. The prime rib was an inferior NY roast not even chewable. We sent it back. If a restaurant is going to offer a special and then undercut their integrity by serving it as if you are a beggar at their doorstep, they are in trouble. read more

What a great experience. I made a reservation for my wife's birthday on 9/3. Cedars delivered a good evening. We were seated almost immediately with our reservations and had a great table with a window overlooking the lake. We ordered a bottle of wine to start with. Both our dinners came with salad bar so we hit that up next. It's very nice to see a self-service salad bar back in action in today's world. It looked clean and I was happy to be able to fix my salad the way I like it. For dinner my wife had lobster and fillet. I ordered the "world famous" prime rib. I have to say, that prime was darn good. It might be some of the best I've had anywhere around the area. I managed to get a small bite of my wife's lobster. It was truly remarkable but she wouldn't share much! They even brought out a small huckleberry ice cream sundae as a complementary birthday dessert for my wife. Nice touch. And the ice cream was excellent. The service is super attentive here. It's not the cheapest place in town though but it is a great place for a special occasion. read more

TERRIBLE!!! Okay, so my first time eating here was a year ago with the husband. We take a yearly fall trip to Spokane and also hang out in Coeur d'Alene. We LOVED cedars. The service was on point and so was the food. This time around I can't say the same thing. My parents joined is on this trip and flew into Spokane. We had 2 nights of amazing dinners, and from my previous experience at cedars we were expecting a 3rd. They were able to get us seated an hour before our reservation which was awesome!! We sat out in the patio and they had the heaters going which made it comfortable. Server came out and took our drink orders and we were prepared with our appetizer order. That came out drinks were good (flavored lemonades) and our appetizer of the pesto flatbread was amazing! Finally we order our food. I opt for salad and everyone else the clam chowder. Salad was salad but no one was entirely impressed with the clam chowder. Then i remember we had gotten bread on our previous visit so my dad asked for some and was told I'll get you some right away. Yea, that bread didn't come out till we were all about done with our entrees. Our server never even offered it to us. Our entrees were all sub par! My dad got the blackened halibut with rice, and broccoli. His broccoli was damn near frozen, rice was hard and not hot or even warm and his fish was also not even warm. He sent his food back, and when it came out the second time he said that it should have tasted like that the first time. I ordered the center cut sirloin with mashed potato's. I added a shrimp skewer and the mushrooms to my order. Food was Luke warm. Mashed potatoes tasted like they had been sitting for awhile. Steak was bland and cooked medium (I did ask for this) but it was not warm at all. First bite I took of my broccoli and it was damn near frozen also. Shrimp was also not very warm either. My mom ordered the peppercorn New York steak.... She asked for medium rare, and it was over cooked and tough. When she explained that to the server the server said "oh I promise it's because of the lighting out here everything always look over cooked, and that cut of meat is just like that" I had to keep from laughing. We eat steak a lot and know what we like but that was just bad cooking not lighting and the cut. My mom also ordered a baked potato and was given mashed potato's. She waited for awhile for that and when she asked our server for her baked potato her response was "oh I forgot let me go grab that". My mom also wasn't very happy with the temp of her food. We aren't sure if it was the cook or our server letting the food sit which we are leaning towards the server but who knows. Then we finally got the bread. Thank God for the bread cause I left my food alone as it was just not good and filled up on 2 pieces of bread. Our busser was this super sweet and polite petite young woman. Our server offered us dessert on the house and we all declined. We love great food, and always go for appetizers, entrees and desserts but we were all so unhappy that dessert didn't even appeal to us even if it was free. We paid for our meal, and on the way out my dad did ask to speak with the manager just to let her know what had gone one and make her aware that all of it was pretty bad. Except the manager wasn't there so the head chef came out and kept asking what she could do to make us happy. Which she couldn't. It was getting late, we are only in town for one more night. We all ordered the peppercorn steak. All prepared at different levels of doneness. NONE of us finished even 1/4 of our steaks. The meat quality was sub-par to say the least. Food: Tuna appetizer - it was placed on a bed of lettuce and crunchy tortilla chips and topped with avocado sauce. The lettuce was okay; appeared and tasted not that fresh but it's tolerable. The tortilla chips were not greasy and not soggy - yum! The tuna was okay. The tangy taste made this appetizer a great one; I think it could have used a bit more, but that's just preference. Salmon Oscar - the salmon was served with asparagus swimming in oil; I had to let it drip. The potatoes were okay - nothing special unfortunately. The salmon was a little crispy on the outside and creamy and flaky on the inside - delicious! Huckleberry ice cream and chocolate cake (decadence) - perfect! A definite must have!! The cake was fudgey and not too sweet. The ice cream was not overly sweet as well. I combined the two in my spoon... and voila! Heaven! Ambience - perfect date venue. Soft lighting all throughout and you're surrounded by the gorgeous lake. HOWEVER, we came around when the restaurant was not full to capacity. I can foresee other people having a bad experience because the place can easily look congested. There is not a lot of space in between tables - around 3 feet from edge to edge if you take out the chairs. Server - we enjoyed her service. We had reservations for 9 people after going to this restaurant several times for the early bird special. At no time was I told the early bird was limited to parties of 6 or less. When I made the reservation I spoke with the person on the phone about the fact that we loved coming for the early special, again, nothing was said about limiting it to parties of 6. When we showed up for our reservation at the scheduled time, we were informed that the early bird was only for parties of 6 or less. After questioning the manager, she informed me the policy has been in place "for a while." This seems to be a vague policy though because we were recently here for the early bird with a party of 7 without any problem. My husband had salad and halibut, without complaint or raves. Temperature tepid. Half of our party returned their meals to the kitchen for various reasons - mashed potatoes cold, scallops tasted off, prime rib over done and lukewarm. For a place that could do so much better based on the scenery and high priced menu, it was a bit of a letdown. The waitstaff did do a great job of remedying the kitchen issues, but they still shouldn't have happened in the first place. I was excited for the king crab. The market price for the crab meal on 3/8/21 was $59 for 1/2lb and $79 for 1lb. I ordered the 1/2lb meal. At first you get 2 chewy sourdough rolls, that were okay. Then you get choice of clam chowder or salad bar. I got the salad bar and was super impressed with the options and large size, they make it for you. Then you get your meal with choice of potato. My crab came with 5 fat and surprisingly tender asparagus sprigs and super garlicky and pasty mashed potatoes. Then was the overcooked, rubbar, bland, king crab legs with the soft shell. I was so disappointed after the price I was charged. The ambiance was very lovely as well as the spectacular view. The staff did ok, my waitress did better than other servers I observed. While the salad was amazing, the main meal may as well have been a $20 Chinese buffet with snow crab legs. I may have enjoyed that food more actually. read more
