This restaurant is fascinating in the way of presentation. The decor radiates a fine dining aura; whereas their dress code is rather casual. Hence the term "casual fine dining", which is the most accurate way to describe the ambiance of Cedars Steaks & Oysters. Though the staff may be dressed far nicer than their patrons, the menu still mostly lives up to the casual fine dining standards one can expect. Mostly. Up front, I will say there was nothing I actively disliked. It's just that certain items could have been better. So, let's start with.. The bread basket: packed with 3 or 4 kinds of bread, wifey and I mainly enjoyed the pretzel biscuits. Warm, savory, buttery goodness is how I'd describe these. Intriguingly, they were presented with two flavors of butter: traditional and raspberry (yeah, raspberry). I couldn't tell you how the latter tasted because....it was partially frozen. Hard as a rock. I normally never bother commenting on something as benign as bread. However, the butter situation alone was far too bizarre and comical not to mention. 7 out of 10 overall. New England Clam Chowder: Since we're literally IN New England, I won't expend too many words on this one. Creamy as all get out with nice big pieces of clam, but lacked some seasoning. At least this restaurant grants us the courtesy of leaving salt and pepper on the table so...8 out of 10. Sherried Lobster bisque: Plenty of sherry flavor throughout the broth, limited actual lobster pieces (if any), but quite tasty. There was only one problem: the bisque was lukewarm on arrival. Not sure if it's always served this way or if it just sat too long at the pass. Either way, it seems like a rookie mistake. I'm sure it's normally better, but I gotta go with first impressions here. 7 out of 10. Prime rib: Okay. Full disclosure here - I'm a pretty harsh judge of prime rib due to being incredibly spoiled by this one place we used to frequent down in El Paso, TX. Let's just say the greatest prime rib we've ever tasted was seasoned generously with hot au jus on the side and the meat itself was tender like butter. Cedars got 1.5 out of 3 of those points. The prime rib was seasoned fine. The au jus was about the same temperature as the lobster bisque. Yet the meat itself....was tough to slice. It wasn't quite the texture of a tire or anything. But I would hardly be exaggerating if I said I was cutting each morsel for what felt like ages. Also, this thing is friggin' HUGE! Which meant by the time I got about two-thirds of the way in, I was pretty much full. Overall, not bad - but not really the GOAT that it should have been. 7 out of 10. Steak fries: These things! These are by FAR the best steak fries I've tasted in a long time! We're talkin' crispy golden outside with soft, steamy innards; not to mention, brilliantly seasoned throughout. 10 out 10, these are the gold standard of steak fries. I actually wanna try this place again, only I'm totally getting the Day Boat Scallops next (which are described as truffled lobster risotto, for some reason). Group of 8 for dinner last minute while down on a Thursday night for March Madness. They were super accommodating. The restaurant is one of many in Foxwoods Casino complex. Great service, fine dining experience. I had the 14 ounce ribeyeSteak and it was perfect. The table shared some oysters for appetizer and there we perfect, nice and briny. Atmosphere was cozy. Ask for a quiet table that's not in the middle of the floor. Not unreasonable prices. No strict dress code, mainly because it's in a casino and there are all kinds of visitors here. O. My. God. The best of the best or the friggin best crab cake. When they say LUMP, it was all crab!!! I didn't taste a single flake of bread crumbs. So good. I was actually full after it and didn't get the entree I wanted. lol. My boyfriend got oysters to start and then a very yummy rib eye clocked to a rare perfection and perfectly seasoned. The speciality cocktails both out on the digital menu and the printed menu were not available so I was a little disappointed. Wound up just going with a basic margarita which wasn't great. The experience did improve from there. The server was very friendly. For my entree I got the filet mignon medium well. The steak was delicious, very tender and very tasty. My husband and I eloped and wanted a nice dinner to celebrate. We decided to head to Foxwoods and eat at Cedars. I've never been, he's gone years ago. Made a reservation for 4pm. We didn't know that you are sat in the lounge area before 4:30pm, so if you want a quieter experience that's a bit more private, make sure you reserve for after 4:30pm. Also they sat us right next to the door where it goes out to the bathroom and it was very distracting with people in and out every few minutes. Anyways, the food was fantastic! We started with the whipped ricotta. It was excellent. Just needs more toasted bread to go with it. They also served fresh rolls and butter which were very good. We both ordered the Prime Rib and it was the best we've ever had. The flavor was incredible. I also ordered a side of scallops to go with my prime rib and they were OK, but not worth the $24 for 2! Won't do that again! We also split 2 sides. The loaded mashed potatoes and the creamed spinach. Definitely large enough for two and excellent flavor. Stopped in for dinner before a show. Snagged a spot at the bar. They were busy. It took a long time to get the food and plates from the previous guest cleared away. Ordered wine, chowder, and Caesar salad with shrimp. The couple next to me got a Caesar salad and it looked really sorry- I was regretting my order. The wine was a very heavy pour. The chowder was fantastic- filled with both clams and potatoes. I asked for some bread as I had misgivings about the salad. It arrived with 3 very large grilled shrimp. Unfortunately the chef never had a good Caesar salad before- they would have never served this limp tasteless lettuce if they had. I had a few bites and gave up. Of all the years I've been coming here I have never been disappointed! If I could rate this 150 stars I would! I came here with my family to celebrate their 60th anniversary and it was absolutely wonderful! Had a wonderful sunset view and our server was so accommodating and knowledgeable! I had the prime rib which was tender and juicy, and a very thick cut with delicious garlic, mashed potatoes, and macaroni and cheese! My fiancé had the ribeye which was absolutely tender, and he loved every single bite of it! My mother and father also had prime rib and they absolutely loved it! The Bread service was also very good as well! Lovely cranberry bread roll with sweet butter fresh out of the oven! My friend and I were walking around the tanger outlet and played a few slots but then we needed dinner. Found this spot off the Foxwood's site. We picked out a few items to share. We always share food. The oyster Rockefeller were pretty yummy. The clam chowder was good... I had better. We decided on getting their surf and turf. For the money, I expected a bit more. The lobster tail was ok a bit on the small side. However, it was cooked nicely. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare. However, the steak on its own did NOT taste like it was seasoned properly. I was really surprised. We had to use the sauce. That was disappointing. I got an espresso martini and it was delicious. I wasn't going to have dessert. I wanted a good chocolate cake but they did not have that. So my friend ordered a creme brulee. It was just ok. The custard was a bit too thick and rich. My mother and I made reservations for the night of December 11. My mother was very excited to get my sister and I together for our birthday, the lady taking our reservations was very nice. She asked if this was for a special occasion and my mom spoke up proudly. Yes I'm taking my son and daughter out for their birthday. We were seated at a round table off to the side, heading into the bar by a busy swing door not ideal but fine. We positioned our 4 seats to use 3/4 of the table as in one of the chairs kept getting hit, but no problem we made it work.. Even though the waitresses TV order station was right to the left of the table, it took almost 10 minutes before we were welcomed with I'll be right over to take your drink order. We finally got our cocktails ordered and after about 10 more minutes, those came we asked if we could get our water glasses filled and some bread and the waitress said that's another woman she'll get to you as soon as she can. After a while longer the waitress came back and asked to take our order. We ordered a couple French onion soups, and she suggested it would be easier if we ordered our dinner now as well. I understand you may have been busy though the restaurant wasn't packed at that point of the night, but her tone showed she had no time for small talk with a couple questions on the menu on the surf and turf or any suggestions on sides she said that's personal preference order both if you're not sure you can always take the rest to go(really ugh). My 85 year old made the polite comment it's my son's and daughter's birthday pointing to us so order anything you want guys smiling, not even a comment from the waitress about even happy birthday she says, so what are we deciding then. I work in customer service. It's not like we were dragging out or wasting her time. she sprung taking our full order on us a little quick. We got the orders in and even my quiet mother made a comment that we seemed to put her out having to deal with our table. Which made me feel really bad because my mom was trying to make us feel so special. Finally after 25 minutes of being seated, we got the bread right before our meal arrived. The food was fine. My mom and sister got the salmon and my wife and I got 9oz fillets and I added lobster tail. Someone from the kitchen delivered our meals and not that we needed anything but the waitress didn't come back the whole time during our meal to ask if everything was OK steaks were cooked correctly etc. Almost felt like we annoyed her or we weren't worth her time because she seemed to spend most of her time at a table of eight. She eventually came back and asked if we wanted to look at the desert menu. My mom made the comment again. Do you have birthday cake on it? She said no, but there's some good choices. Not that we expected anything for free but why ask if it's a special occasion we say it's for two birthdays and then not even offer to give us a slice of cake or something like many other restaurants do including Burkes. We decided to pass. As things just seemed awkward while she was waiting for us to all look at the dessert menu. I really don't care if you appreciate my feedback and thank me for pointing it out to be better in the future because the important night coming three hours away and to meet up with my sister and mom was very underwhelming on the restaurants part can't really have that back's and I feel like that is worse than the food quality being bad. We have no intentions of going back as there are many other choices at Foxwoods I never had a bad experience at Burkes or Hells kitchen, etc.. The restaurant was decorated beautifully. My mom absolutely loved it, but damn the whole vibe and ambience did not match it. It was also fitting. Cedars has been at Foxwoods for many years and has not lost its touch. We were in the area on a Saturday night and decided to go to the casino for dinner. We were lucky to get a timely reservation. We were seated promptly. The one negative was our waitress did not tell us about the evening specials and we wouldn't have known they existed had we not heard the waiter at the table next to us telling his table about them. We didn't order appetizers, just entrees and side dishes. My husband and I both ordered prime rib. I opted for the roasted brussel sprouts. The sprouts were well cooked and loaded with pieces of meaty bacon. The entrees came with popovers, which aren't a favorite of ours. I broke a piece off to try it, but left the rest of it behind. Birthday weekend at Foxwoods casino included dinner for four at Cedars Steaks and Oysters. We started with the short rib risotto which was rich and delicious. We were interested in the $190 steak and lobster for two so we ordered it for the four of us and added a side of green beans. The tomahawk steak was huge and served pre-sliced along with a 2lb lobster and sides. The steak was ordered medium rare. The edges were nicely charred and medium to medium rare cooked depending on the slice. It was plenty for four people and we were too full to finish the sides. She then asked if I would like a refill of my drink... 30 minutes later that never came and we begged for our check as we were seeing a show and had been there for an hour and 40 minutes, no apps just entree. Yesterday we sat at the bar, our bartender was Tracy, been there a long time as most of the servers and bartenders have. That tells me the employees are treated fairly by the owners and the customer base is consistent! He happily obliged and came over about 5 minutes later to let us know that our server will be with us shortly as it was a bit busy. I appreciated the communication. The atmosphere was quite nice so we didn't mind the wait. Football was on also. Our server was kind and attentive despite a busy night. The food was amazing! I honestly did not expect it to be this great. We ordered the Seared Sea Scallops, calamari, whole belly clams, Alaskan king crab spaghetti, Alaskan king crab legs, short ribs, PEI steamed mussels, king cut prime rib, and fries. Everything tasted great except the whole belly clams. We ate more batter than clams. My favorites were the calamari and king crab spaghetti. The Alaskan King Crab Legs were good too but it was on the saltier side but my friends loved it. Overall, Cedars was a great dining experience. Came here to celebrate my husband and his best friend birthday. My husband and I got the meal for two. It came with a tomahawk steak two lobsters and asparagus and creamed mash potatoes. It was so good. We got our steak medium. It still had a little pink. It was seasoned well. They definitely didn't skimp on the seasonings. Which I'm glad. Who wants a bland steak. They also didn't over do the seasoning. Everything was well made. I had no complaints of the meal. Only complain I have was one of the staff who would come and refill our water or take away the empty plates. I don't know if he was having a bad day or what. But, he was very rude. When we would ask of something. He would just give us a look and not say anything. Made his approach to us very uncomfortable. It went on throughout the entire dinner. Hostesses were very nice even after the people before us gave them attitude for their waitlist seating. The gentleman who brought water was pleasant & Ken, our waiter was great. We had a very nice waiter who immediately got our drinks going and continued to come back and get anything we needed. All the staff was great. It looked like they broiled it. It was two very thin pieces with the skin on and it was very dry and I could not eat it. I probably ate a half of one piece. My husband ordered the King crab spaghetti, which came out with a plate of spaghetti with a few small pieces of crab in it, kind of a disappointment and a few peas. Next my coworker got a pork dish. I believe it was pork tenderloin with some risotto on the bottom he enjoyed the risotto and said the pork was ehh. My other coworker got a ribeye and he was happy with his choices. Cedars looked very inviting and cozy as my wife and I had a fantastic meal here with the best waitress Stefanie, she was attentive and on point. I ordered the Dry Aged Rib Eye with shared sides of Mushroom, Brussel Sprouts and Mac And Cheese, all very flavorful my steak was cooked to my specs of medium rare, my Wife had the Salmon fish and it was fantastic as well, the bar was lively and yes there is an attached restroom you just have to ask where it is. Hi all... SKIP this breakfast with Santa! I reserved on 11/12 with no menu posted for 11/29. On 11/28 i saw the menu posted and noticed it was $65/pp age 5 and over!!!! I called at 2pm on 11/28 to see if I can cancel and they said no, it was less than 24 hours in advance, i would have to pay $25/pp fee. This is not right seeing how when I booked it nowhere did it have the menu or prices. It wasn't even noted that it was a buffet. Also, while the omelet station and food in the warming dishes was good, the food that the chefs prepared and had sitting on the shelf was old and hard as a rock. We tried the croissants at two different times and both were hard and stale, and the pancakes were hard and stale as well, completely inedible. Not at all what I expect for $30/pp never mind the whopping $65! My bill was less for dinner at Hells Kitchen and that was delicious and service outstanding! Re: service- the hostess didn't even talk- no hello, no explanation of how the buffet worked, no one even offered to take photos of the fam with Santa which for over $200 for 2 adults and a small kid I expected at the minimum. read more
