My mom recommended Celebration 13 years ago for her birthday, and we have been coming for the past 11 years since her passing. What always was a bonus for me when we came was the option to have seconds...for free. So, I was very disappointed when I found out that I would have to pay an extra $6 for an already expensive $16 dollar slice of meatloaf (if you are getting seconds for free, $16 somewhat made sense). We discovered Celebrations restaurant years ago, but are rediscovering as of late. The food and atmosphere are always wonderful with superb service. The only thing I would change is when we arrive( usually on Sunday mornings at opening) they always ask us if we can be done in time for larger parties arriving later. I've eaten here several times and its always great! If you're looking for farm to table, home cooked meals, this is your place. Growing up in Texas and now living 1500 miles away this is a great go to place for comfort food. All the vegetables are prepared fresh daily. On my last visit (two days ago) I ordered the vegetable plate. About 12 options to choose from - I selected a salad, butternut squash soup, black eyed peas and fried okra. Plenty of love on a plate and bowl. All were deliciously flavored. My dad got the meatloaf, which is one of his favorites with the mushroom gravy. He had plenty to take home for dinner. Oh, and every table gets a bread basket. They have assorted breads and muffins. From cornbread, to pumpkin bread to rolls. All delicious. I absolutely love going to Celebration! They always have delicious food and the staff is friendly and efficient. Last time I visited I ordered the kale, quinoa chicken salad and it was great. I added some lemon juice to the olive oil that is on the salad and yumm! They use fresh ingredients and the bread that comes out before the meal is a great addition as well. They have some great small blueberry muffins mixed in with some cornbread and rolls. They also have some delicious desserts, bread pudding was my favorite although I am not entirely sure that they always have the same desserts. small country restaurant. parking lot is small as well. First of all, I fully understand and support the use of service dogs to help people. No issues there whatsoever. However, we were there two weeks ago, and as we were leaving, an older gentleman had his large golden retriever dog SITTING ON THE BENCH NEXT TO HIM inside the booth with its head over the table as he ate. Not on the floor next to the table, not out on the patio . . . on the actual seat right beside him. I do not want to sit on a chair or bench where an unknown dog has just had its butt parked. When I called, I was told by the manager on duty that the dog "had to be seated there due to medical necessity." The man was shoveling food away with gusto, so I doubt that's true; plus his wife was seated directly across from him. The manager who took my call said she'd "sanitized" the table and bench after they left. The fact that the booth even had to be sanitized shows it was a unclean, unhygienic situation to begin with. We have always loved Celebration and have eaten there for years; however, if having dogs in the booths while people eat is now the norm, we will not go there again. So gross. read more

The food and service were AMAZING! We had a party of 14. It took a few minutes to get seated, but everything was amazing from that point on. The food was excellent! The creamy cucumber salad dressing was great! I had the chicken fried steak and it was excellent. The best part about our experience was our server, Jackson! He was absolutely fantastic! I have been coming here for over 30 years. It's my favorite restaurant in Dallas. The food is always fresh and delicious. I usually order the chicken fried chicken, but everything is wonderful. If you are hungry, you can get a second entree for most of the entrees for no additional charge. Dinner is served family style. I highly recommend ordering the salad with the cucumber dressing for your first course. The dressing doesn't really taste like cucumber, yet it is delicious! Also, make sure you pick mashed potatoes as one of your veggies choices. The dinner also comes with a basket of different types of breads--all of them are so good! My boys love the walnut crusted chicken and the pot roast is tender and flavorful. Make sure to come hungry. This farm to table food cannot be beat. So, so, so good. read more

I'm a long time Celebration fan, but the day has finally come that I won't be back. The dinner service has slowly gone downhill and has been inconsistent for the last year or so. The last couple times, the food and service has just been bad. Multiple tries. My biggest complaint is the seasoning of the food. It's under-seasoned as if it's now catering to people that can't eat salt. The pork chop was Flavorless and tough. Overcooked. No seasoning. Not enough flavor. Boring. A pork chop on a plate. The sides. Oh man, the sides. Again, the sides lack seasoning. Bland. Boring. The green beans. Cold. Tasteless. Salt? Shallots?Pepper? Garlic? Butter? Nowhere to be seen. Mac and Cheese is almost always mush. You can't let sides sit in a warming tray forever. Gotta keep making fresh. Light herb chicken. Tasteless and dry every time. Parmesan crusted chicken, tasteless and dry. Sometimes undercooked and tough. Chicken fried chicken. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. When it's bad, it's tough and not crispy. The meatloaf. Tough. Dry. Overworked so it's rubbery. Constantly get end pieces. The salad is still outstanding and the mashed potatoes are pretty consistent, but even those occasionally lack seasoning and creaminess as well. Too watery at times. I've been to celebration literally over 100 times and I'm qualified to say the experience is lacking top to bottom. The dinner service chefs are not tasting the food and/or they've lost their passion. You guys need to train seasoning and tasting food. If they don't know how much salt to use by feel, start measuring it. You can get a decent meal if you do one of the specials because someone more experienced is obviously making those, but you don't always have something you want on a special. Interior carpet needs to be replaced. It doesn't necessarily need to be fancy, but clean would be nice. Servers need to be trained on service and efficiency. read more

"Traditional American/Southern" food. I'm not the biggest fan of this kind of cuisine but went with friends who are born raised southern boys and they dig it. I find this kind of food to typically be pretty basic and humble, and for better or worse Celebration is very true to this food. I thought everything needed better or different seasoning, some oomph to elevate it. I had the pot roast which tasted like every pot roast I've had at a traditional American/southern restaurant. Unfortunately half of it was overcooked and tough. Didn't care for the sides (green beans black eyed peas, mac n cheese), again faithful renditions that were okay. Great outdoor patio. Inside decor is very old and dated. Service was good and plenty of parking. My take: if you want down the center southern, you will like this. If you aren't a fan, this likely ain't gonna turn you into one. read more

Homestyle Farm to table Dallas style. I'm visiting Dallas for the first time and my friend Stephen was thoughtful to take me here. He is born and raised in Dallas and coming from California I wanted healthy and also Texan. This was the place he took me too. From the outside, inviting stone exterior and a beautiful patio on a lovely day. It was a bit cold so we opted to dine in one of the many small dining room. As you enter, you are greeted by southern hospitality that is warm and friendly. We were shown to a Dining room with 8 tables. The walls are decorated with the history of the area which draws a warm appeal. Service was quick, clean place and with a vast menu. As we sat down, our waitress took our drink orders. Answered any questions we had about the menu and brought out a basket of warm bread and muffins. Delicious! From what're berate, to jalapeño cheese corn bread, blueberry muffin and pecan pumpkin muffin. All of it was tasty! Lunch specials had many good options and great reasonable prices. The main dishes were Fried chicken, roast chicken, fried catfish, meatloaf to name a few. If you choose a main dish, you have three selections of side dishes. I opted to get the steamed chard with roasted cauliflower and roasted spaghetti squash. Everything was tasty with exception of the squash, needed a little more love as in butter or olive oil and tiny splash of salt. This is what I choose. There is Mac and cheese and other savory side choices. The quantity is large and if you are two small gals, you can actually share a plate. I had the roasted rosemary chicken (like half a chicken), flavorful, tender and juicy. I must admit, I pretty much ate all my veggies and part of the chicken. My friends who ordered the meatloaf mentioned it was tasty! Meat was tender and flavorful gravy. When you are out here, come experience farm to table with southern Dallas hospitality. So, the description of the restaurant here is "American, Traditional" Perfectly described. The space alone is a solid star, a lovely patio that does its best with its busy-street locale. The food is main and three sides ( in most cases ), which gives you flexibility but can result in some lack of cohesiveness in your meal. Then again, its your own darn fault. The food is solid, its, well, "American, Traditional". There will be no za'atar, wagyu tomahawks or ethereal foams. There will be fried okra and banana pudding and meatloaf. Everything was fresh and well prepared and very reasonable prices. So, if you are in the area and looking for "American, Traditional", you cannot go wrong here, really. I personally wouldn't think of it as a destination restaurant someplace you'd drive across town for the experience or food. So a solid three stars. read more

I know many want to give this a much higher rating but I'm really struggling with 4 stars. Here's why. Went here on a Friday evening with my date. First time. We found lots of parking and were quickly seated in an alcove. The waiter was absolutely attentive and helpful. Top notch service. We had salad and bread to start off. The bread was very good and so was the family style salad. I really liked the rolls but the corn bread was a bit too crumbly for my likes. I had chicken fried steak and my date had the Chicken St Caroline. For the family style sides, we had black eyed peas, mashed potatoes and fried okra. When the food came out, it was very well plated and looked fantastic! The family style sides is novel, but it was really just normal side amounts just in the center of the table. I understand they will give you extras if you run out. The mashed potatoes were really good. The rest, was decent. My chicken fried steak was of good quality meat but the batter was somewhat too much and not a lot of flavor. The gravy was somewhat minimal and some extra for the mashed potatoes should have been automatic in my world. The blackeyed peas tasted a bit bland. I tasted my date's and I agree with her that it was okay, not spectacular like we had thought it might be. The fried okara had way too much breading for my likes (I'm a roll it in corn meal and over cook it type guy.) Our drinks were kept full and the wait staff was very attentive to our needs. The atmosphere was really great as the alcoves/rooms help keep the noise down. Service and atmosphere is absolutely 5 star. The food, just seemed to be missing something however there are many that would love it as it is. We'll swing back another time to try some of the other items on their large menu. I can see how that would be a problem if you come prime time. Got seated quickly and the staff was quick to get our drinks. The specials looked good and I like the way their menu is laid out. I got the Chicken St. Caroline and we all ordered family-style mashed potatoes (creamy and good), fried okra (OK), and broccoli (OK, but no seasoning). The chicken was OK, but didn't care for the sauce and couldn't find mozzarella anywhere. Didn't finish it. My husband got the pot roast and said it was OK, but a bit dry. He liked the mashed potatoes. I thought since the vegetables were supposed to be family style that they'd bring them in larger bowls - we had to ask for refills because of the small shared bowls. Incredible dining experience. The atmosphere is intimate and almost feels like it is too quiet, like you have the place to yourselves. The salad was crisp, clean, and delicious with croutons worth eating by themselves. Don't even get me started on the delicious house made dressings. We enjoyed thousand island and bleu cheese. We selected sides of Parmesan mashed potatoes, squash, and fried okra. Everything and I mean everything was incredible. Unbelievably, you can refill your food - yes, you read that correctly. We completed our meal with the peach cobbler- because my Yelp community raved about it. You were right Yelpers - SO GOOD! The perfect amount of cobbler to peach ratio. I would visit this location just for the cobbler and a cup of coffee. The price left me feeling I had enjoyed a wonderful meal for a cost, I truly felt fit my experience. Honestly, we ate a great meal and even enjoyed dessert for under $55.00 (I am including the tip in that number). More dinner details if you want to know: The jalapeño gravy had a kick of spice that was unique, interesting, adventurous, and delicious. The Parmesan mashed potatoes were creamy and actually included the subtle but wonderful hints of Parmesan. The fried okra was robust and perfectly fried - they were not soggy or mushy like so many places. The squash was fresh and firm - perfectly buttered and touched with a perfect amount of cheese.
