Noel arrived right on time, asked the right questions, then sent an itemized estimate and confirmation of appointment. Barry and the moving crew arrived exactly on time, confirmed instructions on how and what to pack, delivered everything perfectly, and left everything clean. Everyone was courteous and accommodating. I moved locally in the Bay Area and booked Celtic Moving a couple of weeks in advance. Marty was quick to respond to my initial inquiry and came by to provide a quote. He was very flexible regarding the booking and answered all of my questions. He even drove by my new place because we had concerns about the driveway and the moving truck being able to clear it. Moving day went smoothly - 3 guys showed up right on time and they were very personable and productive. My husband and I did 99.9% of the packing so they moved boxes and the large furniture/items. I felt that the moving team took care of our items - they wrapped things properly and disassembled things where needed. Juan was a master at playing tetris in the truck and everything fit as planned. I received 3 different quote from local companies and Celtic's was the most competitive one. I requested a quote from Marty, and he quickly responded back with a quote detailing everything that would be charged, so there were no surprises at the end of the move! We moved in early October from San Carlos to Roseville, CA. We had a great experience throughout, starting withMarty our first contact who always was calm and honest during a most stressful time. Noel who came out to make our estimate was excellent and clear. . We moved with 45 years of our treasures, furniture and garden things. On the first day of the move there was a crew with a very capable French supervisor and a crew of three. We had pre packed nearly everything so it went smoothly. On the second day the crew brought our trucks to Roseville. We especially liked Francisco and Guadalupe who have a marvelous work ethic and enjoyable personalities. One star for showing up on time. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE experience with the four stooges that moved me from one end of the block to the other. Careless, thoughtless, argumentative, disrespectful. Multiple pieces were damaged due to their absolute negligence. Please refer to pictures of all the damage they caused. Workers argued and yelled at each other. Absolute mayhem. They lied, and cut huge corners (not just into my Theodore Alexander buffet). Failed to wrap items. I heard yelling, then observed two of the workers shoving , my Harden sofa through the door UNWRAPPED (think elephant through a keyhole). See picture of the upholstery tear ($425 to repair) and scuff marks that this caused. The so-called lead had no dominion over the team members. He royally failed to direct the out-of-control workers. Damage: chipped marble-top table in multiple places, scratched gilded metal table base in multiple locations, chipped furniture, tore upholstery, scrapped paint off bed frame, broke piece off of antique screen, scratched my brand new bar cart AND discarded one of the mirrored shelves. BUT WAIT! There's more!!! I had a few items CLEARLY marked for haul-away. This was agreed upon during the pre-inspection/quote. By coincidence, a Recology truck was picking up from next-door, and the driver said go ahead and put the items in and he'd take them. Lucky right? NO! Instead of having me come down to DOUBLE-CHECK every item, the two idiots down with the truck just off-loaded what they THOUGHT were the correct items. Sounded great when the team lead proudly came back up and gave me the great news. At the new apartment, the guys were getting tired (because they refused to break for lunch) so instead of reading where to place boxes, the disrespectful, argumentative little guy (name starts with an "A") constantly interrupted me with "hey lady, where does this go." I was discussing a multitude of issues with the lead. In the end, I realized that they had discarded three custom glass shelves, and the heavy mirrored shelf from my new bar cart. The next week Marty and I met to go over all of the damage they caused. He thought he'd have an easy job of bullying me during his feeble attempts to deny that his men did an inexcusably poor job. In fact, his main concern was that his team wasn't getting along. THAT is what most upset poor Marty. NO concern over the damage. PLEASE save yourself the headache and use a different company: plenty of fine movers in SF. read more

We evaluated 3 insured full-service movers / storage companies to move our 3 Bedroom Victorian into a Home in Mill Valley and selected Celtic. TL:DR - Please patronize this company. Great folks. They operate with integrity. Did exactly what we wanted them to which was make our move easy... Entire process was pleasant and they came in below their quoted range. I've never seen that happen before. Details: Celtic was punctual, professional and fair / competitive when quoting us. We elected to have them pack for us which was a tremendous value add. On packing day, the crew was on time, professional and trustworthy. Nice people to have in our home. All of our items were ridiculously wrapped up to prevent chipping; boxes were labeled with enough detail so we could easily find things when unpacking and we discovered wonderful attention to detail like little tabs left on the tape to make it easy to rip of when unpacking. The move went off just like the rest of our experience: great. The team was there on time and they made fast work moving our things. All of the boxes made it into the correct rooms and the team took their time to help us experiment with furniture layouts. Moved during Covid (had to, stop judging) from LA to SF. Everyone wore masks which... it's hot in LA so god bless them. Marty was super accommodating, organized, efficient, and helpful. Celtic Moving and Storage is astounding! For years they have done all the moving for one of my best friends, who is very particular, so when I had a tough job, I called them. I had to get a large sofa with a chaise section up multiple stairs into our San Francisco flat. The company from which we bought the piece tried and then gave up. They said it could not be done. Celtic came out, looked at the photo, dimensions, and our building, and figured out a way to make it happen. Today they got it in through our garage and up and through a tight stair case, back porch and multiple external and internal doors. Job done without a single ding or scratch. This is really the worst customer service experience I've ever encountered. Two weeks before I move they quote me $300 to move a one bedroom 15 miles away. These guys show up 3 hours late on the Saturday I'm supposed to move, tell me it will cost $600. I tell them that is ridiculous, and he says: "Look, it's Saturday night, we don't want to be doing this anyway". So I told him to get out, I rented a UHaul and did it myself. I was really happy with Celtic Moving until the last 3 minutes of my move. I'll start with the good stuff: Right on time, super nice, efficient, accomodating, ran up the stairs, etc. The when it came time to sign off, there was an additional $75 in charges. A $25 dollar fuel charge and a $50 "Driving the van back" charge. This was never mentioned when I made the reservation. Minus three stars seems hefty, yes, but I hate feeling I've been taken advantage of or ripped off. Make sure you check on this when you make your reservation. read more

Damaged walls to our brand new house Moved from a one bedroom apt in San Mateo (with elevators and street parking) to a single family home in Menlo Park. All the boxes were packed and two guys show up with two tiny dollies. Were told it would take 3-4 hours to move and it took over 6. My wife and I had to move more than a third of our stuff just to get it done before it got dark outside. When you're paid by the hour and no one else is using you that day, the strategy is to slow the pace to milk the hourly rate - I get it but it's totally obvious and BS. It works once and thanks to Yelp, it'll end up hurting your bottom line down the line. Slow is fine if you're careful but if there is damage to my house and you're moving slow-as-hell, what is the problem? This was the worst moving experience. Find ANYONE else. Why go with someone who is loved or hated (according to all these reviews) when you can use yelp to find ANYONE better. read more

I moved recently and was so so so excited when I realized that Yelp was going to send me someone good when I entered in Movers in the search field. I found the ever prolific Megan W's review on Carty Moving and Storage, and called right away. An Irish dude answered and said he'd call me right back, apparently that's their system, it happened both the times I called to make and then change my moving date. To make a long, & pretty annoying story short, Carty's movers didn't show up to work the day I had planned on moving. I didn't let it affect me though, moving furniture is possibly the worst job I could ever think of having in San Francisco, so my patience wasn't questioned. I simply told them that they'd have to find another moving company for me, and there was no way I was calling around for them. They found me Celtic Moving & Storage. Marlon and his dynamic duo team finished the job in 3.5. hours and did a terrific job. They barely rested, NEVER complained and were super nice through the whole job. One of them even expressed his pride in doing a good job and how it was important to him to do so! I liked them so much my roommates and I called back the next day and had them pick up some junk to put in storage. We called and they came 45 MINUTES LATER!!! Awesome, I definitely recommend them for any move or storage issue anywhere in San Francisco. And I'd still say Carty Moving did their job in finding a great substitute for moving my stuff. I wanted to like these guys. They came well recommended and were friendly and apparently professional. But in my case they behaved irresponsibly. Last Friday I called and spoke with N. I asked if they could move me this Thursday (in six days) with help packing, as necessary, before then. I explained the size of the home we are moving out of, the size of the home we are moving into. I answered all N's questions and he confirmed that they would do the move this Thursday. Yesterday (Monday) morning M came to see the home, make the specific plans, and agree a price. After touring the home he specified the number of men he'd need, the hourly rate and the total time; and on that basis gave me a price estimate (within a range of $500). We again agreed to the deal and I began making arrangements. Two hours later M called and said that Celtic was fully booked this week and could not do the move. I replied that N had already confirmed the job. M answered that N had not known the scale of the project. I replied that I had answered every question N asked; moreover, M himself had just been in my home two hours ago and had confirmed all the details. In short, I had commitments from N and M. They were reneging on a commitment less than 72 hours before the move. Realizing that they were really hurting me, M cursed under his breath and said that he'd make "a bunch of calls" to arrange another company for me. This was at about 2:30 PM yesterday. I called at 5:00 and left a message asking if he'd had any luck. He never returned my call, presumably because he had either not made the calls or he had discovered that no movers were available on such short notice. So there you have it. Two men at a generally reputable firm made firm commitments to me and then reneged with less than three days' notice. There is now no way I can get the move done on on time, so I will miss my own professional and legal deadlines. Their irresponsibility has made me irresponsible. read more

I'll admit it right off the bat. I really like the Irish. I ain't talkin' about the hallowed school in South Bend, I mean the entire race. I developed an affinity for the happy denizens of Erin back in college when my roommates bore the names of Kevin Patrick Sullivan, Michael Anthony Ferguson, and John Frances Donohoe. (I was the token swarthy Wop.) So, when it came time to find some movers, I immediately called Celtic because....duh....they're Irish. (Actually my fiance had used them before and told me to call, but I like my version of the story better.) I spoke to Jimmy on the phone. Jimmy was awesome. "Ok, what's the new place like? Is thar a elavatooor? How about dem steps? Ooookay. I'll send ooone trooock and tree guys. Shouldn't take tooo long. " The quote for the move was higher than some other places, but I liked how Jimmy sounded on the phone. The "tree" guys showed up at my fiance's place right at 8:30. They took about 45 minutes to get her entire apartment into the truck. Then they drove to my place. Time to get all my stuff into the truck? Less the 30 minutes. These guys were flyin'. Only one of them was irish, but he was great. "Come on lads...it's Saaatorday. We need to move. It's Saaatorday." He was hauling stuff like a mule, and taking smoke breaks. Superhuman. They then got all of our collective crap into the new apartment in a little over an hour. They placed everything in the right rooms with zero damage. ZERO!!! Any little screws, pegs, or bolts that came loose ended up in the Irish guy's pocket and back in our hands. The speed of the operation made the higher quote worth it because I think we ended up paying less than if we had gone with another company. I cannot recommend them any higher. read more

Go to U-Haul, rent a truck. On the ride home, pick up a day laborer or a vagrant. A meth addict would have been stronger, more ethical and more careful with our stuff. Celtic movers had to be babysat to work at a normal clip (they barely moved when we weren't watching), to not totally destroy everything (which they did every time we weren't watching), and to basically do their job. It cost $1250 to move half of a two bedroom apartment. They took 1.5 hours to drive the 18 miles from San Francisco to our new place. They dropped boxes on drinking glasses, removed a door but didn't replace it, stained, chipped and destroyed our furniture. Absolutely AWFUL! read more

They were able to move us on a very short notice (I called them Tuesday for a move today, Friday - it's a long story...), and deal with the weirdness of two pickups. They fit everything from both my housemate's and my old places in the truck, and brought them in to the new house. The guys were friendly and personable. The only reason that this is not five stars is that there is a nick on my headboard. Granted it's not super fancy, so maybe I shouldn't be surprised, but I am a bit saddened by it. I can paint over it though, and it should look about as good as new. It should be noted that all the really fragile or delicate things came through without a scratch. read more

Movers were on time (mostly) courteous and efficient...kinda. My main issues were; Movers could not fit everything on truck. No effort was made to do a pre-visit (even though I requested) to make sure truck was large enough. I asked *several times* during packing if it would fit "Oh Yes" was constant answer. But no he was wrong. This created undue hardship and stress for us. 3 items were broken. No effort made to fix or repair the items. While movers showed hustle at times, overall I am surprised it took as long as it did to unload the truck. I get the sense the 3rd guy for the unload did not do all that much. The movers were professional and worked hard and continuously. I used them for two moves this year. HOWEVER, both times, I felt like I was overcharged from my quote. The first time, they charged an additional $100 to move from Redwood City to San Francisco. On the second move within the city they charged $150 an hour instead of $100 an hour (they said it was because there were three guys but it still took the same amount of time). They also charged a $25 fee for gas and I only moved ten blocks. read more
