My wife and I came here with some friends for dinner. My wife picked this place after hearing some great things about here from people at work. Mainly that they have really good food, really large portions, and are run by a Greek family and have some really good Greek food. Upon arriving we were seated quickly out on the enclosed patio which had heat lamps setup. Even though it was chilly outside the patio was nice and cozy. We ordered poutine as an appetizer which was very good. It had a little bit of gravy, not too much to make the fries soggy, and had a nice layer of meat and cheese on top. I ended up ordering the reuben sandwich with onion rings and coleslaw. The onion rings are excellent, I highly recommend them here! Normally I'm not easily impressed with onion rings but these were really good, crispy, and you can tell they were handmade. The reuben was really good and a great portion size for the price. I only ate half and took the other home for a second meal. My wife wanted to get dessert so we split a buckeye cake. The portion for the cake was perfect to split and a really good portion. Overall this place has good food, good portion sizes, and a nice atmosphere. Don't be intimidated by any of the prices because you are most likely getting 2 full meals with any dish. read more

The food isn't very good, the service is mediocre at best, and they charged for cheese in a breakfast sandwich AND dismay tell me about that OR the fact that tho they say you get your choice of breads for the sandwich, there was an up charge for the one I chose. Absolutely the best diner in Pittsburgh. The menu can be overwhelming in a very good way. Not to mention the vast number of specials that great you when you walk in. The portions are huge, most people leave with another meal for later. This trip I ordered the ROAST YOUNG TURKEY BREAST. It was a mound, "I mean mound" of turkey over stuffing with gravy and cranberry Sauce. Plus you get a side of mashed patotes that are definitely homemade. You receive a generous sized salad and a basket of fresh baked bread with this meal. Never a reason to have to wait all year for Thanksgiving dinner again. Not your normal run down diner feel. Whew, where do i begin? Okay the manger was Mary Beth was extremely rude. At first i was thinking racism but the more i observed, i noticed that she treated everyone in her presence badly. The staff, other guest, people trying to secure a table etc. Mary Beth- manager should really consider a new place of employment because she doesn't have the hospitality to be a restaurant manager. Perfectly average, middle of the road American diner food. Think Cracker Barrel with a bigger menu. Food runs toward the bland and "mushy" and not always piping hot. This is probably owing to the mass production. However, you're not likely to get a BAD meal or service and you won't leave hungry. In sports terms, it's a low ceiling, high floor player. They serve breakfast all day and sell cakes and other treats near the entrance. I do want to compliment the red wine here (Mondavi for $8). read more

The sandwich and fries tasted good, and the food was served quickly. I would have given 3 or 4 stars, but when I paid and the girl at the register asked about the tip, I said 20% which would have been $3.08. However, when she handed me my receipt, she had $4.00 which was a tip of 26%. That is ridiculous. If you're in the Robinson area and looking for a good, family-friendly restaurant with a classic diner feel, Central Diner & Grille is the perfect choice. They have breakfast, lunch, dinner, and are open late (11PM on weekdays and 1AM on weekends). I've been to Central twice now, and I've had good experiences each time. Both times that I came to Central were with parties of at least 10+ people. My family doesn't go out together often, but when we do it's big time! The first time must have left a good impression on everyone, because when we were recently in search of a restaurant to go to before my out-of-town uncle returned home it was a no brainier to come back to Central. Usually when I go out to eat I have a good idea of what I'm in the mood for, but on the evening of my last visit I was feeling particularly indecisive. I was thinking I wanted the spanakopita up until the very last minute, and then I decided on the eggplant parm. After Christmas I felt super weighed down by tons of carb-filled foods, so this wasn't a bad option. With your entrée you get a choice of soup or salad to start off, and without thinking twice I opted for the salad with Greek dressing. My mom got the daily soup, which was beef vegetable, and it looked incredible, though. For being with such a large amount of people, our order came out impressively fast. My serving of eggplant parm was overwhelmingly huge, but I mean this in the best way possible. It had the perfect amount of sauce and cheese on top, and was fried to a perfect crisp. I had enough for at least 2 other meals after eating to my stomach's content, and it was just as good heated up the next day as my lunch. It's not quite a tradition, but I'm happy that when we go out together my family chooses to go to Central. With two good experiences here I can confidently recommend it to others and say that I'll be happy when we decide to come back. Trying brunch here is definitely on my list along with other things I saw on their menu, but that gives me something to look forward to! read more

My dad has been undergoing intense treatment for cancer and does not want to eat indoors right now due to his immune system. Central Diner has two lovely covered patios, which has given us opportunities to dine at Central Diner even when it is raining. Mary Beth always ensures we have a safe seat outside. The extensive menu full of delicious dishes and weekly specials allow us to have such a variety of options to choose from that we could eat at Central Diner and never tire. While all of our servers have been so prompt, personable, and kind, Mary Beth has gone out of her way each time we are there to make sure we have any special accommodations. Her understanding, care, concern, and extra surprises of love have touched us so many times and been a consistent source of brightness during a challenging time. She celebrates good news from treatment results with us and encourages us. What a blessing she has been to my family and how appreciative we are of the haven that Central Diner has become to our family. Love this place! The servers are all friendly and wonderful. Last night was no exception. We were immediately seated after being asked if we wanted a booth or a table. We asked for a booth and were seated directly across from the dessert case. So tempting. One of the staff saw me, eyeing it up and made it a point to tell me that his mother's favorite dessert was the carrot cake. By the way, he said we have some. Initially, our server was Paula, who was just so warm and welcoming, but something happened and another wait staff was assigned to us. That was fine. The service was still good. The vibe, with Christmas music playing, and a nice hum of customers made for a great atmosphere. my husband ordered the big fat Greek omelette, and I had the egg Benedict portion sizes were huge. I brought half of my meal home. I ordered the sweet potato fries instead of home fries, and they were delicious little waffles of sweet potatoes. fortunately, we had no room for dessert, so no room for temptation but someday I swear I'm going just for dessert and coffee. My turkey club didn't have cheese on it, the zucchini strips were slimy, and a well done burger was pink in the middle. My family and I went to Central diner for lunch today and well usually the food is beyond phenomenal and the menu there's definitely extensive! Unfortunately, this visit didn't usually stick to par like it normally does. I got a Montecristo sandwich which was good looking however it was super dry and really didn't pack too much flavor, I love condiments, but there is something missing with this sandwich. I got it with the side of fries and cheese sauce, which was also really disappointing as the fries were nothing too special, They were obviously frozen and flash fried and then the cheese sauce already had the dark orange skin on it and it was definitely a processed cheese sauce like it was bright neon orange. My son got a really nice piece of their challah French toast, which was so delicious and the ham he had was so good. So his food was delicious and looked really good at the same time! Just disappointed in the Montecristo sandwich. My mom had their Greek salad with gyro meat and it was huge and looked absolutely delicious and she said that it was so! Definitely recommend. The staff was super attentive and helpful accommodating about seven of us, even though there was not a lot of people in the restaurant. It still felt really loud and I'm not sure why, but it didn't make or break our meal for sure. Definitely will be going back again. read more

My first visit to Central was on a Sunday night around 8. My aunt was visiting town and after we found out our first restaurant choice was closed, we browsed yelp and decided on this place. Central Diner did not disappoint! Our waiter was quick and so friendly. It was pretty slow, so he kept coming back to the table to make jokes and talk with us. He was super friendly and funny. My aunt ordered angel hair pasta with meat sauce, my husband got a Greek salad, liver and onions with a side of gravy fries, and I ordered the chicken avocado melt (my food came with a side of slaw and a pickle as well). All of the food was cooked to perfection, no complaints whatsoever. I had to ask for a box because the chicken breast on my sandwich was SO thick and juicy that it filled me up and I couldn't finish the other half. We all taste tested each other's food because everything on the table looked so mouthwatering! I'm a big french fry fan and these were perfect to me. The menu is HUGE with a wide variety of options ranging from your typical breakfast bites to Norwegian salmon. We definitely want to visit again to taste more of the menu! read more

Very fast efficient service even when busy! My husband got the gyro Benedict with lamb meat and homemade tzatziki. Lamb was good tzatzki was light and fresh but the muffins weren't fully toasted. I really like it here. It has great food, good staff, a HUGE selection and fairly accommodating hours. I come here often after my shift and they are still open and never seem upset to see more customers at nearly the end of the day. I have never disliked anything I've ordered - although they are a "greek" diner and I have to recommend their Greek food above all else. They are a diner, have a bar, serve something for everyone, and make awesome desserts. I have taken friends and family and everyone has had a good meal and left after a nice time. read more

I ordered Shepherds Pie. As I started eating I found that some of he meat inside was raw. Not rare...raw. I stopped eating it and the server asked how it was. I showed her the raw meat and she said "ew". Exactly. She asked if I wanted a box and I just chuckled. She took it back to the kitchen and returned with a message from management. They said it is how their Shepherds dish is served. Raw? She asked if I wanted to speak to the manager but I saw no point since the message came from him/her. Needless to say we will never be back. Love this place! Went with the family and we were joyfully greeted by Mary Beth. After some chit chat she told me about a special drink they had that night they were calling Pink Sangria. I was last at Central diner with my late husband when they very first opened. It was great, and we even talked at length with the husband and wife owners. This was my first time back since then, and I wish I could say that the experience was just as great. Sadly, however, not so much. The place is bright and clean. I was seated instantly and my server, who was very good, came right away. I ordered a ham and cheese omelette, which comes with home fries and toast. I also ordered coffee. I didn't really care for the coffee...as much as I like and need the stuff, I'm a coffee wuss, and this was just too bold for my taste. The food came out in a timely manner. The wheat toast was stone cold, the butter not even a tiny bit melted. My server replaced it very quickly. Next I tried the potatoes. Their version of hash browns is thinly sliced potatoes, and they looked very inviting. They turned out to be...crunchy. And not crunchy in that "boy, these are nicely crisped up!" kinda way. They were crunchy in that "eww, these are half raw!" kind of way. I ferreted out a few of the tiny pieces which were okay, but any pieces bigger than about a quarter weren't properly cooked. The omelette was fine. Not change- my-life-for-all-eternity great, but it was a proper omelette. So...disappointing. For breakfast, I'll stick to my 2 favorites, Lynn's in McKees Rocks and Johnny's diner in the West End. I may try lunch or dinner, but then again...probably not. read more

My wife and I decided to try this spot on a trip to Pittsburgh and boy were we glad we did. I wish I could remember our servers name but he was absolutely fantastic. His knowledge of the menu was amazing, and he was very good with refills and questions we had. Onto the food my wife and I both got gyros, and they were very good. Portion sizes were great for the prices. A man sat next to us got their turkey special and it was crazy how much food they had given in that deal. My wife and I just had dinner here this evening and I must say, although jam packed, we were seated VERY quickly. Our waitress (Kim) was excellent! As busy as she was, she went above and beyond in every way, was extremely helpful and friendly. Service is 5 stars out of 5! The food was fantastic (and the portion sizes, as my dear old mum used to say, were big enough for the 7th fleet). My wife had turkey and dressing and it was just like Thanksgiving. The dressing was sweet, made with apples and raisins and the turkey gravy, rich and flavorful. I had the veal parm, which was quite literally the second best I have ever had in my entire life. Again, HUGE portions. I had Caesar salad (delicious dressing), a side of linguini and toasted bread. The sauce is house made with a hint of spiciness / kick and the veal was breaded and crisped to perfection. The veal inside was tender and very flavorful. Again, food rating 5 out of 5. My list bit is certainly NOT the fault of the restaurant in any way, but parking is a bit limited and fills quickly, so if you're hungry, get there early. Definitely worth the trip to Robinson. We will most certainly go again. How can you lose? Great service, excellent food and priced VERY reasonably. Overall rating: 5 plus plus out of 5. The SERVICE today was top notch with SEVERAL employees working in concert to make it really really lovely. Even though they were very busy we were seated nearly immediately we arrived and served quickly after. The food was also VERY good. We had the fried pickles for the table (their marinara is really yummy) the hubby had Chicken Souvlaki and I had the Traditional Gyro, we really enjoyed both. Kids had chicken tenders and pancakes and the pancakes were a standout- my 5 YO is a pancake connoisseur and those pancakes were some of the best we've ever had. The cooks went the extra mile and made the pancakes in the shape of Mickey- I thought it was just a really sweet gesture. I appreciate the touch. Ordered Cheesecake and the Almond Torte to go and they were so beautiful and scrumptious. Overall, I wish we lived closer so we could make it a weekly treat. read more

I had the French Toast this morning, with two scrambled eggs, sausage, and an English Muffin. It was epic. The French Toast was perfection with just enough Confectioner's sugar on top. After a fun night of playing retro and vintage games at an arcade, we decided to stop here for a bite to eat. Honestly, I did a search just for what was open at that hour and this popped up! I lost all focus as soon as I saw the 5-layer cakes stacked super high in the cooler. This wasn't the night for me to be eating cake, but I promise you that night is coming soon because those cakes looked too good!
