I have been here many times over the years, but for some reason the other night was pretty disappointing. Watery and tasteless pesole and a couple really bland salads. The chicken tostada thing I got was pretty good but not what I would expect from an experienced restaurant like Centro that historically has been much better than this. The blood orange margarita was pretty good, but the Yucatán margarita was way too sweet and tasted more like a rum drink - nothing like a margarita. I came to Centro in a group of 6 girlfriends. Even though we had a reservation we had a slight wait, but it was no big deal - we pretty quickly got drinks at the bar. The drinks were pretty good, but not the best. Pictures showed dehydrated fruit as adornments, so I was disappointed when mine came without one. Once we were seated, service was pretty slow. However, when the waitress came she was extremely friendly and pleasant. The food was DELISH! I ordered a burrito which tasted authentic and fresh. My friends all had various other delicious looking dishes. We really liked the décor inside as well. Murals on the wall and bright colors. Great Mexican vibe. Long time customer. In past always good experience. Not so much at Lunch this past week. So when we got there the Hostess said 30 minute wait even though 1/2 of the seats were empty. I chalked the wait and empty seats up to a waitress shortage. But there were seats available at the Bar which the Hostess did not even offer until we asked. In any event we sat at the Bar and got good service. My wife ordered the Pasole. It was absolutely horrible to the point of being inedible. Anybody else would have sent it back but my wife is not like that. Fatty fatty nasty braised pork and tasteless. My cucumber gazpacho was a little better than that but still very disappointing. The bartender being a bartender did not even notice that my wife refused to eat more than a few spoonfuls of her Posole. Maybe there was a shortage of good cooks because it was lunch. I don' know. But will need to think 2x about going back to Centro - or just stick with the usual tacos and burritos. read more

We took a day trip to Boulder from Denver and was hungry! On a Sunday afternoon, we were able to quickly get a booth seat. The decor is beautiful and welcoming both inside and outside. The melon margarita is AMAZING! I hate margaritas that have cheap flavors and not the actual juice from the fruit. It was light and not overpowering. We got the chicken taco plate and guacamole and chips for an appetizer. Smaller portions but delicious flavors. Service was ok because it is really busy so you might have to call the waiter since it was a while since they last checked up. read more

Good god where to start. First red flag, waiter didn't write down our orders and lo and behold they came out incorrectly, second, the waiter never brought waters or came back to the table after serving the one drink ordered by the table of five. Third, she kept eyeballing our table and would make eye contact as we waved her down and she would not come back to the table, at one point we got up to GET HER OURSELVES and she ran off into the back as soon as we stood up... horrible service, so unbelievably bad. I ordered the fish tacos and it came fried (which I was unaware) and didn't have any flavor whatsoever. The guac and the street corn was also good can't complain on those. The rice tasted flavorless and cooked without salt. The burrito was OK nothing special. The drinks tasted very light as well so it was ehh. If you're coming for a good location to chill this is it. First time visiting - Definitely NOT the last!!! We checked in on Yelp and got a free queso and warm tortilla appetizer. It was amazing! I ordered the BLT and the yucca fries. I was amazed. The yucca fries are a MUST!!!!!!! My hubs had a fish taco and a chicken taco. He loved them both, but wished he had just got two fish ones, they were better than the chicken. He also had the hash browns with salsa. He liked them. Thought they were over cooked but it wasn't bad! My mother in law got the pozole with carnitas and she really enjoyed it too! read more

After they got a new chef from Mexico things were great at Centro, there were interesting regional Mexican dishes on the menu. But that was a few years ago now. A while ago I had an awful French dip sort of thing, and today, for brunch unsauced enchiladas and not the promised watercress salad -- the waiter, who wasn't familiar with two sauces I asked about, had no idea mixed greens were being substituted for the watercress. I was disappointed, not having had watercress in a long time. Now the food seems sort of dumbed down for gringoes and the focus is on elaborate tequilas cocktails. read more

So fantastic. I love this restaurant! The vibe is fun and bright and exciting, it feels like vacation. Whether you sit inside or on their patio, you feel like you're in your own little private paradise. Cozy and carefree and super colorful. Their cocktail menu is outstanding, but I like a classic margarita with salt or a glass of Spanish wine. Happy Hour has some great deals and plenty of apps to choose from. Try the avocado salsa for sure -- guacamole meets pico de gallo -- so refreshing. Nachos with queso fundido, black beans, crema, cotija, guacamole, and pickled red onions? Yes, please. Got seated and asked for guac and chips. Came with 4 chips. First off no that's just sad. Second asked for more chips and was brought 4 again really COME ON!! After that 30 min and NO ONE CAME TO ASK IF WE WERE OK!!! Horrible service. Come on this was easy. Just sad. This was a nice find on Pearl Street with comfy outdoor seating and a nice ambiance. Apparently they had just reopened a few days earlier and were working with a new menu. Service was friendly and the cocktails were tasty. Guacamole portion was small but fresh and flavorful. Menu was very seafood heavy and relatively small. We had the carne asada and tuna entree. Both were good but not amazing. It almost felt too healthy-if that makes any sense? Good experience but I left still craving some of the traditional Mexican flavors. I'd be more inclined to come here if I specifically wanted something that bartaco does not serve, but I wouldn't come here for just tacos. I would come here to try the $5 breakfast burritos if I am ever in the position to do so. Ultimately, it just depends what you are looking for. read more

What a spectacular discovery! What lies deep beneath the most unassuming facade is a rarified pantheon of culinary talent, nearly missing in Colorado altogether. I ordered the Chicken Enchiladas de Zolo. What ensued was a complex and masterful blending of tastes I haven't savored in some time. Chef Daniel, hailing from one of Mexico's top chefs, applies Serrano, poblano, jalapeño, and tomatillo chiles in addition to onion, garlic, cilantro and together, fashions a delicate underlying taste complexity I didn't even find at Rick Bayless' Red-O when last there. Cheeses applied, instead of the typical and tired Cotija, include chihuahua, a smoked cheddar, and Jack. Even the actual chicken meat was flavorful. The usual trade off between flavorless white meat and odd looking or textured, dark meat with flavor wasn't apparent. It was tender yet flavorful. The beans were fresh and pungent, for pinto beans, drenched in garlic, and again, a touch of poblano. Finally, the shell of the enchiladas distinguishes itself as it was crunchy in the ends, by design, drenched in oil yet baked. The result was a uniquely crispy shell with a rich taste unto itself. What a complement to this amazing dish. In short, the redundancy of an ordinarily simple recipe wasn't the least bit present here. I never grew tired of the taste, even through the third enchilada. Prices, service, ambiance are all wonderful. I would change up the music personally to a less popular "rap" urban mix to one of the Yucatán. I can't wait to return, and only wish Denver /Boulder had more like this. They don't. read more

Average food, below average service. We decided to stop in on a Friday night with a group of 6. First impressions were terrible as our soon-to-be waiter saw that he had another table to tend to and he visibly threw up his arms in disgust, yelled an explicative, and turned back to the kitchen. We settled in, felt bad at first for the guy, cause we knew they were busy and it looked like every member of the wait staff was stretched. However, our sympathy quickly evaporated as our waiter ignored our table as he sat with a group of girls at his other table and continued to flirt with them throughout the night. In total, our waiter stopped by 3x. Once to take our orders and deliver water, twice when we were paying our bill. He didn't even deliver our food, the kitchen staff eventually brought it out. I'm only giving this place 2 stars because the food was actually pretty decent. Or maybe it only seemed decent because I was starving and my expectations were so low after dealing with our server. Absolutely loved this refreshment palace from food, décor to drinks in downtown Boulder! We stumbled upon this gem while strolling around downtown and came here twice for happy hour. Needless to say that we were impressed both times and it has become our go-to spot for happy hour and dinner whenever we're in the area! Happy Hour: it gets crowded pretty fast after 5 pm but we were able to snatch a spot right at the bar outside on the patio. The bartenders were very attentive and fun. The vibe was cool and relaxed. You could tell that people were having a good time! Food: chips and salsa sampler were pretty good but the nachos hit a sweet spot. It's an explosion of great flavors from the cheese, guac, pico and pickled onion! I ordered the eggplant taco since I'm a vegetarian and it was delish! The chicken taco was really good too. Everything was amazing. The chips were seasoned with, what I can only explain as, "Jesus Juice". Simply heavenly. The carne asada is hands down the best Carne Asada I've had in Colorado so far. My wife had the enchilada suiza, and she spoke highly of it as well! The server we had, Mark, also had a trainee, they were both fantastic servers, really knew the menu, and offered the highest standard of service. The drinks were decently priced, and strong! I don't know why it took me so long to come to Centro, but I'm so happy I finally made it in! I've now been here twice in the past month and I'm in love! Centro has a great atmosphere, whether you are sitting inside or outside. As far as food goes, no matter what do not skip the queso! I always end up ordering queso every time I go out for tacos, and I must say, Centro's is one of my favorites- I love that they give you tortillas instead of chips, and if you run out, don't be afraid to ask for more tortillas because they're on the house! We also tried the house Marg and the watermelon marg, both of which I highly suggest. I was a little worried the watermelon marg would be too sweet, because I hate sugary drinks. But, it was spot on. I don't think it had any extra sweetener in it- It was naturally sweet and really tasted like watermelon. read more
