Yes it's in Covina so it's not fancy but for $15 gel manicures, friendly customer service, and great work , there's nothing much to complain about. I came here for a gel manicure yesterday afternoon with an appointment with Nina. The day before, I was cooking and chopping onions when the knife slipped and cut my finger pretty deep. So i was kind of hesitant to go in and get my nails done... but decided to anyway since I already made an appointment. When I sat down with Nina to ask if we should just leave my cut finger alone, she said No and assured me that she was really careful. I have to say, she was right. Nina is amazing! When taking off my original nail polish, she was so gentle with my finger that it didn't burn! She was just soo awesome with everything and making sure she didn't hurt my finger, even when cutting my cuticles. And she's so talented in gel nail designs! Great nail salon ! They really do take their time so clear at least 1-2 hours but that's to get the best quality. I went in on Monday at 10:30 and got seated right away and Tracy helped me. I got gel nails, showed Tracy a picture and she did great replicating it. We did a lot of last minute changes to the design and she didn't complain once. Before she did my nails she let me put on these fingerless gloves. I thought it was strange at first, but then realized its to protect my hands from the UV light, which I thought was awesome! Gel manicure is 20, but because of my design she added 14 so I ended up paying 34 +tip which was reasonable for me. Anyways, my nails turned out great, not perfect, but still really cute! Her and a couple other females started talking and I had already sat down. After sitting a couple minutes, she decides to come up to me to tell me they can't do my nails. Honestly I stopped paying much attention to her when she came into my personal space, while breaking her neck trying to see my work badge. Something about not being there and some other drag. She asked if I could come back the next day, but at that point I was done. If someone goes out of their way to get there for an appointment they THINK they have, to only be told they need to come back doesn't sit well. RUDE.. I don't know how this place has managed to rack up such rave reviews. First off, these ladies are totally unaware of how to organize/manage the shop when a rush of ppl come in. Therefore, I saw many ppl being left to awkwardly stand in the middle of the shop while waiting for acknowledgement. They asked me to sit down when I first got there, with no guidance of where or when I should be choosing my desired colors. (It was my first time here.) Then when I sat down...I was kinda spoken to really rudely and hastily...like they were just tryna get you in and out real quick. They even scratched the sh*t out of my cuticle at some point when they were trying to buff my nail. Just sloppy. Overall, it was a hodge podge of yapping ladies all climbing over each other. No organization whatsoever. I'll be back if I'm desperate, since I live down the street. Color Nails in Temple City is still my go to. Ok, so the only real reason I gave two stars instead of 1 is because in the end, they ultimately did what I went for, which is to paint my nails (I guess) and I like to reserve the 1 star for horrid places and experiences. But, I digress. I found this place on yelp and it seemed to be great and had all of the great reviews and I looked at the pictures and thought it would be perfect for what I wanted. However, when I got there and told them the design I wanted on my nail (a simple half moon, black and red), none of them seemed to know what I was talking about. This was a bit shocking considering the pictures on yelp seem to show that they know what they're doing. BUT, after reviewing the pictures again, apparently the only real good professional there is an individual named "Nina." So if you do opt to go, I would suggest not to, but if you do anyways, I guess you should ask for Nina (which I'm sure is the ONLY reason this place has the stars that it has). However, I did not have the pleasure of having Nina do my nails though. So my experience follows: I wanted a simple manicure and pedicure. The lady doing my pedicure asked me 4 times if I wanted a nail design, to which each time I responded politely "No thank you." But I don't think that was the answer she wanted. However, that is the response I kept giving. It's just not my style, jeez! Then, while the same pedicurist was doing my toes, in the middle, she said "Is that a hangnail?" Of course there was no such thing, and before I could even answer, she said "Oh, no it's not. Sorry." Even though it wasn't, that is not the type of thing that should be a topic of conversation in front of everyone. Just do the job to make it look pretty. Next to me, the pedicurist doing another woman's toes (that I didn't know) at some point also asked her about her varicose veins right while I sat next to her. I could tell she was embarrassed. Needless to say, I think the women who work there could use a couple classes in proper client etiquette. When the manicurist came, she asked me if I wanted gel, to which I said a big "NO THANK YOU, I've had that stuff before and it totally ruined my natural nails." But of course. Then even to the point of when I paid and everything was all said and done, the lady still said "You get gel next time." How about... No. There won't be a next time, sorry. Anyways, long story short, I still have ten toes and ten fingers, so I will obviously live. But I definitely don't recommend this place. Especially considering the total came out to $33! Lady kept leaving me to tend to someone else, preps me and is almost done with my pedicure FINALLY but decides to not put on my color and help someone else for 10 more min. I don't often go to nail salons because I don't ever have a relaxing or pampering experience. After all that's what I'm paying them for. But here at Century Nails, I felt like I was just "one of the girls." Everyone there is super sweet and super helpful, they don't ever try to upsell you or push anything on you, and THEY TAKE THEIR TIME ON YOUR NAILS!!! I didn't catch her name, but the girl who worked on my fingernails was a doll. She was so sweet and she was also gentle, (sometimes they're all rough and they cut your cuticles and whatnot.. well not here!) I had her do a French Tip with the Crystal Gel or whatever, and I couldn't believe how much she was paying attention to detail. She kept going back over every single nail, making sure they were perfect, and I've NEVER seen anyone do that before. Usually people who work at nail salons just go into auto-pilot and do a rush job on your nails because they do it all day every day. Well this young woman treated me like I was her only customer all day and made sure my nails were PERFECT before I left! They are welcoming, helpful, and priced very decently. Even my boyfriend wants me to take him with me when I go back so he can get a basic manicure! Made an appointment with Vincent 2 weeks ago at my last visit. Prior to that, I had been double booked several times (when I made appointments) or I would not be able to get my pedicure done in a reasonable amount of time as my gel manicure. I'm sorry, but I do not want to be at a salon over two hours just to be able to have my gel mani and regular pedi done. Vincent appeared to try to take care of me as best as he could and he did an AWESOME job on my gel manicures. I was never disappointed with his service. Today I walked in at my appointment time and found that Vincent no longer works at this salon. No offer to sit me with someone else, just a "He doesn't work here anymore." He was the reason why I went to this salon. Everyone else seems rude and I have not had exceptional service from anyone else...not to mention the fact that I've called to make appointments and found myself double booked several times! Don't waste your time, this place can't manage the huge crowds from the high ratings on Yelp and will likely hit the skids. So I've been coming here for at least 2 years now and I started going to Anh regularly for my acrylic/manicures, this last time I went it left a bad taste for two simple reasons 1. She would literally stop working on my nails to answer a text/phone call on her phone, she's actually done this mostly every time I came in I've always thought this was rude and un professional 2. After the shaping I had asked her to square them off on the tip a bit more, mind you I was very polite. They started off with the wrong treatment, they made me bleed, and had me sit and wait for the next available person all because my first lady was ashamed she messed up I came here with a friend and we both were getting gel done for the first time. I had regular nail polish on and she thought I had gel so she was sawing down my nails unnecessary. When someone else realized her mistake she left to go do someone's pedicure. This salon is just around the corner from home, so I stopped to check it out. I've been here 3-4 times now, for fills, and a full set. My first encounter was with Tina, and she's very nice, patient, and takes her time to do a nice job. The 2nd time, I asked for Tina, but there was a wait, so the main girl on the floor started off my full set, but she did a horribly rushed job. Whenever I go here, I always ask for Tina; she's consistently good. I hear she does a great gel polish too, so I'm looking forward to that after the acrylics. Found this place via. Yelp and the reviews seemed good, so I decided to try it out. I went in without an appointment and they took me right away no questions asked. I must say Vincent did a great job! I loved my nails even before the polish hit the acrylic. I had much over grown, pointed nails that he made look even better when I had the set put on. He really knows how to get the perfect shape, his attention to detail is awesome, and he's a clean worker. He didn't get acrylic all over my fingers and was very efficient. Since I had longer nails they charged me $18 for my fill instead of the $12 it starts out at, but thats still not bad. Tried this place cause a client referred me. (I They were empty and took me right away. (I didn't ask for the tech my client told me about I just went with anyone). The reason for the three stars was because the tech talked me into a design..okay I said yes to the zigzags on my ring finger..she tried them twice and had to wipe it off cause she couldn't do it...then I said just do a small heart..that took her four attempts on my right hand and two on my left... Finally done, they were bigger hearts and was straight and one was crooked. Not to mention I asked for them black and they are white. Whatever. I was over it. The gel manicure was good but when I was almost done another lady came in and my tech seemed to just want my service to be over with. And when we got to the front she ended up charging me for these wonky hearts. FYI-don't talk someone into a service you do not know how to do..it was very greedy and unprofessional (this is coming from a hairstylist too!!!!) I paid and got out. They will be doing your nails and will be speaking their language to each other and will be laughing hysterically. If you ask me that's very unprofessional. Theyre open 9am-7pm most days of the week. Found them on Yelp. Mani/pedi with designs on both hands came out to $41 - not bad considering the ladies took their time. The technicians are very nice and treatments don't feel rushed. Jodie did my nails for Coachella 2013. Hannah does good pedicure. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she was able to replicate it - not perfect, but good enough. My biggest complaint though is that the massage they do for you on your hands and feet are way too short. I always look forward to that part of the mani/pedi, but was disappointed when she merely slapped on the lotion and rubbed it in. A regular mani/pedi (without the bells and whistles) is only $25. Okay this is my hands down favorite nail place now! I've been coming for the past 1.5 yrs and about 95% of the time I leave a happy customer without breaking my bank (For gel manis!) I usually will go to another place for pedis however. The prices here are super reasonable and they are really good at what they do! I'm so sad I changed my job b/c I can't come here anymore (I use to work a few blocks down). Yay, new nail place. Super small so if you can get in during the week, early in the day, you will be able to relax. They do charge a dollar for credit card purchases, but it beats going to the places where they demand that you tip them in cash. I get the gel acrylics and gel pedicure. My pedi lasts quite some time. The only bummer is that they don't offer paraffin wax, which I enjoy because like I said, I get the gel nails and I hate having my hands under those lamps all the time. The prices here are decent, staff friendly, spa clean....so over all, this will be my go to place...at least for now. p.s. the parking lot can get kind of crazy, it's a small shopping center and they really did what they could to squeeze as many cars in here as possible. eeek! read more
