I receive Long Distance through CenturyLink. I was trying to set up an on-line account with them, and the usual chat-bot was no help. The person on line gave me a phone number and all that rep kept saying was they needed to reset my user name and password. I told her three (3) times I could not even get to the page to set up a user name or password, but she was going to transfer me to them anyway. So I screamed that since I did not have a user name or password the transfer was as useless as she was and hung up. Hope I still have long distance service. read more

CENTURYLINK is like the bottom of the barrel when it comes to customer service. If I want to upgrade my service, I have to pay them to come install something at the place I rent so I can pay them more money for faster service. No thank you. On April 30 about 10 o'clock at night my Internet went out. It's still out - four days later. . They say you have an outage in your area and we're working on it but they keep moving the day that it's gonna be fixed. When I try to call somebody I can't talk to a human being so I ordered Cox today and I will be canceling CENTURY LINK. They don't fix things quick enough and they don't communicate to their customers and they don't prioritize restoring service. I'm warning you don't even consider this company. My internet was out for 2 weeks. I couldn't get a hold of anyone to fix it. They are never open. They never let you talk to a person. They hang up on you. It's so impossible to talk to anyone from this company. Do not try, once I finally started chatting with someone. I was on the phone for 3 hours and they told me it would be another week before they could send anybody out (between 8 and 5) and then they kept threatening me with all these fees if it wasn't their company's fault it was out. Now I want to cancel it because I can't deal with these people anymore. And I can't get a hold of anyone to cancel it. I don't know what to do. I've spent so many hours trying to talk to somebody from this company. I called Cox. They were there 2 Days later. They said they would be there at 3:00. They were there at 3:00. They have been wonderful so far. If I were you I would go directly to Cox if you can. So I have internet now before CenturyLink is even thinking of coming out to fix it. I'm sure they're going to charge me for a month where I didn't have any service and I can't get a hold of them to tell them not to come out and to cancel it. I had to discontinue my service with CenturyLink (CL) due to a mandatory switch of Internet by Cielo Apartments going to Cox-Xfinity. I was told by CL I could keep my modem which their service worked great btw. Then I was given a few extra days due to prorated credit to have their service without penalty fees and now I'm looking at another bill again for three days of service $44. I already paid my final bill. They are not answering the phone with a live person and if they do, I was told I would be charged $9.95 for live assistance. Ain't that something?!! I was going to move after my lease was up and go back to CenturyLink but not if they are going to do me like this!! Huh. I probably don't even have to write this, based on the myriad horrible reviews I just scrolled through. But, I'm going to anyway, just in case you're still on the fence about ordering service through CenturyLink. DON'T. Run away. I've had cable & internet service through them for 12 years, bc until recently, I didn't have an option. I think they rely on that, considering they could not care less if their service works consistently. Internet speeds are far less than I'm paying for, packet loss is astonishing, cable goes out when the wind blows faster than 2 MPH, or a bug flaps its wings too fast. When I started working from home, the service just stopped working altogether around 4 times a day & I had to reboot my router. But, COVID, so I dealt with it because there was a quick fix, even if it is annoying. But when it got so slow that it disrupted my work, I had to call them. 3 hrs on hold later, and they sent me a new modem. When it arrived, I set everything up remotely (192.168.0.1) and it worked. Yay!! But the next day it was up & down; slow & sketchy, again. 4 hrs on hold & new a customer service rep later, I was told they had to send me a new router, because the one I had was "old." It was 1 day old. Despite my wishes to the contrary, they sent a second router. Out of curiosity I installed it. It didn't help. So I installed a mesh system myself & created a new network piggybacking on the CenturyLink system. THAT WORKED! It's been working just fine for several months. But yesterday I woke up to find the network down & the red DSL light solidly laughing at me, to my face. I checked everything I possibly could, and my network is fully operational. My modem is no longer receiving a signal from my provider. I literally took my modem outside to the Demarc & plugged it in - no service. So, the problem is not in my house. I tried 2 other modem's, each had the same problem. So I made the dreaded phone call to customer service. To my surprise, they didn't just tell me they'd be sending me a new router! Yay! However, to my dismay, they also wouldn't run any diagnostic tests - and said they'd have to send a technician. IN SEVEN DAYS. 7 days. That's the SOONEST they could send someone to fix their service. That's 1/4 of the month, despite billing me for the whole month. That's one whole week, and I work from home. I need internet service to pay for the internet service. And not being able to work for a week would definitely put my job in jeopardy. But there was nothing this tech could, or would do. He wouldn't even try to help me isolate the breakage in service. If it IS something on my end, something I could fix on my own relatively easily, it would be crisis averted. But, nope. Luckily Cox now offers service in my area, so they'll be here tomorrow to install new service. It's actually faster, supports more devices at once, and is a lot less expensive. I've been paying CenturyLink $170 per month for internet & TV, and I've been with them for over 12 years. But they don't care. Cox probably won't care either, but they found a way to be here 4 days sooner, so here we are. I haven't had internet or TV for a couple of days, so that sucks. But at least I know I'll have it tomorrow. Thank you, Cox Communications...I'm not even a customer yet & your service team worked hard to get someone here as soon as possible, for free, to get me up & running so I can get back to work. I don't think CenturyLink wants to be reviewed. There is no place to review their phone service. It's not that it's bad but, this company is behind in catching up with installing fiber optic cable for their customers. In our subdivision we still have the old wiring that was installed in 1972, so at times it can get static or no dial tone. Their customer service is lacking in being friendly. They do try and you have to give them credit for that. This last go around we had to have the service guys come out six times before all was back to normal. The suggestion I would give them is not to have their customers feel like being an inconvenience in calling to get your phone back to working order. So for this and only for this I can only give them two stars. The saga continues with Century Link. It is unfortunate for the company to not provide a decent phone service. I do understand that most of us have a cell phone and maybe that's what Century Link wants, for us to switch to only cell phone service? I don't really know but, the thing is that now we the customer have to provide a service to their company instead of the other way around. Meanwhile their service people are very decent people that try their best to fix your problem in the heat of all things. This phone company is not customer friendly and it is to the credit of the field service people that this company is able to survive. It is my opinion that if they want to offer a lifetime payment to have their service they have to provide a service that will keep their customers for life. Giving them two stars is more than kind and if I could redo this I would give them half a star. Especially when their fix is to place an above ground line to save face. When in essence they need to replace the phone line to have complete new service lines. End of this adventure. Maybe more to come. read more

We all know they really don't care about service - but since i am finally ridding* myself of these folks [after 47 years], i feel the need to celebrate! When i pressed "3" i was put in a queue with a wait time of "2:52-4:17" [that is hours!]. after seemingly endless advertisements about how great they are, "T" came on the line and told me that i should be on the QWEST side. he rewarded me by putting me back into the same advertising hold [in case i did got it the first time]. then "N" picked up and asked my why i was leaving the fold. she apologized and told me i had to speak with the disconnect people. this led to a fast busy followed by a C'Link hang up. After dialing the same number [this time just choppy music which is better than their weak attempt to justify poor service], "M" came on the line and handled the whole thing in one short polite call. he gets the other four stars. *it took a new Panasonic device to allow our very long use landline number to be transferred to a modern mobile service and still come through a multi-handset answering machine read more

I don't know which Centurylink yelp listing to review, this one just happened to be closest to my house. Pros of Centurylink is that they are cheaper than Cox Cons are the customer service, I spent 45 minutes just trying to update my credit card to pay my bill and they said I needed some special code to do that via chat. The account number, address, SSN, and even the providing the current CC being used is not enough to change the form of payment without the magic code I was never given. They wanted to mail it to me and have me sit in chat queue again for 45 minutes when I get my letter. Tried calling support and they are only open during normal weekday business hours, which I guess is fine, but if you run a large company like this, some weekend support would be nice like Amex, T-Mobile, or any other company that needs to provide 24/7 support. If money is no issue, definitely recommend someone else for internet service. read more

I proved it wasn't me and after many exhaustive phone calls back and forth with their "customer service" people FINALLY got it all cleared up. This was over a year ago. There are few major service providers who should NOT be in business. Century Link is a prime example of one of them. Worst experience ever with Internet and customer service. Had to call several times, talk to numerous people over and over, before they got an issue straightened out once. Had to file two complaints with the FCC before they fixed numerous errors THEY made. Closed my account, and they reopened another account in my name, without my authorization, billed me, and tried to continue deducting money from my bank! Then, their customer service "supervisor" told me, "that's what happens when you close your account and go to Cox!" RUN, don't walk, away from doing business with this company! Century link is honestly the worst internet provider literally anywhere you go. I've been paying $70/month for supposedly 80mbps which was promised by the company. In reality I pay $70/month for 30mbps aswell as every day, about 15-30 times a day the internet constantly goes out. I can pay $10 more a month with cox for 300mbps and better internet all around. CenturyLink Service is absolutely the worst. I started in 2014 and everything is average and okay and I keep their service for a year. They are mediocre. 2.5 mbs. But it does the job when you live outside the city. The catastrophe comes when you try to cancel service. First of all, let me say that I asked if there was a contact when I first signed up for century link and they told me over the phone that there no contact and I could cancel at anytime. Then, I didn't want to cancel service, but Centurylink told me that they could no longer provide service to me (This happened in September). So i was forced to cancel. Then they charged me a $200 cancellation fee for breaking the contract which I had no idea existed.. Because THEY COULDN'T PROVIDE ME SERVICE. I don't think so. So of course I was mad and I called and it took them MONTHS to get the $200 balance off of my account. And it took them until December (3 MONTHS LATER) to completely remove everything from my account. So I happily go on with my life, until February. In February, I get an email from them saying that I owe $180. So I call, and they say it's because they need me to return the router, which they never said they needed. They didn't send me a package to mail it back to them, they didn't tell me verbally, they didn't email me, they didn't do or say anything that would make me think I had to mail the router back to them. And since they took so long to tell me(5 months), I threw the router away in January. I can't even express how angry I am. I am in Feb 2016 still dealing with this BS. read more

Century link is the worse possible internet system. Every time I call to complain about the internet they have me add more whatever they call them I am up to 60 which is the highest in my area costs me with prism tv and internet almost $300 a month. However still can't watch tv or recorded shows if they are more than two people either watching tv or on the computer. Every time we up grade the speed it extends our contract another year.
