I owe you a great Yelp review for all the amazing food and fun times I had going back to when you had the small storefront with maybe 3 booths and table seating for three 3 tops and no reservations. Be there at 5pm for a short wait and if you got there late, it was worth the wait!!! I will do my best to not drop an F Bomb here but that Warm Spinach Salad though! Right?!?! Dang! My cousins had driven a 20 ft Uhaul from LA to bring Julie to attend Cal. We parked that big rig around 3 pm and I made them wait until 5 pm before they could eat. They were starving. I let them have water. I am the oldest cousin and they are nice kids so they listened to me. We went on a walk in the park and when we sat I ordered the Warm Spinach Salad, the Cajun Prawns with the bread to sop up the juice. I wish we had iPhones back then so I could have caught the faces filled with the most satisfied expressions; Just makes you close your eyes to savor every flavor, texture from the crunch of the pine nuts, the temperature of the warmed sauce and bacon with fresh spinach. The very first time I went with a big group. We took up two booths. I just got off work and had a suit and tie on. My friends told me to lose the tie. I just enjoyed Cha Cha Cha for date night and loved the Cajun shrimp with a side of Spanish rice! We also enjoyed other tapas, but the Cajun shrimp was our favorite. I had some of their cocktails, but nothing is better than their sangria. The service was excellent! Even the chef was making his way around the restaurant, and interacted with us, which we loved. This is one of my husband and my favorite restaurants in SF and for good reason. There's not a single dish that we've tried off of their menu that has disappointed us. Our absolute must order there is the Cajun shrimp. If you don't get the shrimp and dip the free bread into the sauce, you are definitely missing out on a critical and life changing experience at Cha Cha Cha. I think I really try to go to this restaurant at least once a month and a half and it never gets old. It's definitely a place that we recommend to our friends from out of town whenever they ask for SF restaurant recommendations. We ate at Cha Cha Cha for the first time ever and loved every single dish that was served to us, then I look them up online and read that they have had low food safety scores! I don't know what to think of that, but I can assure you none of us four got sick after eating there! As I mentioned above, we tried a number of dishes and loved the wonderful and different flavors that each of them offered. At the end we wrapped it up with a couple of orders of flan that was heavenly. The service was great, the place was decorated nicely and there was a very nice energy in the room. This is one of my favorite restaurants in SF. The Cajun shrimp is incredible. I always order it double the sauce, and warn them we will be eating a crazy amount of bread to soak up every drop of their amazing sauce. Trust me it's that good!! At least that's my faint recollection of Cha Cha Cha in the late 1980's when in a drunken stupor, I'm sure my face landed in a fully loaded bowl of guacamole. Now a century later, I'm back in the late afternoon before the early evening barflies arrived. I was feeling peckish in the Haight and thought I had a shot at finding something healthy to eat in here. Well, sorta. I ordered a couple of small plates. First up was the $10 Shisito Peppers, which came in a small cast-iron bowl all blistered and glistening in oil with a light squeeze of lime and a sprinkle of sea salt (photo: http://bit.ly/2YK1e99). It made for good munching but not necessarily healthy. The second plate posed an even greater risk. It was the $12.50 Warm Spinach Salad which came with a dressing made with bacon, mushrooms, warm Dijon mustard, and sherry wine cream. Came here with a friend after a fun day in the neighborhood. The restaurant has outdoor seating, intimate tables inside, and a bar area. Service was very fast (food came out asap), but the order process could have been better. Ordered a small pitcher of sangria--but tbh next time I'd go for their special cocktails. The Sangria was warm and we had to ask for ice to add to our pitcher. Personally I think the sangria needed more time. Or more fruits. It needed something...? My companion said it needed more alcohol lol The food was yum. Chips and salsa to go with alcohol. The salsa was perfectly spicy and very fresh. Mediocre food quality, acceptable service. We're a Cuban family and are quite in tune with what good Caribbean food is. We ordered a few dishes: The vaca frita was a bit on the dry side and not very flavorful. It was served with beans and plantains...but no rice? Incredibly strange. Rice and beans are a staple of Cuban cuisine. The beans were under-salted and lacked substance; they tasted watery. Not impressive. The ceviche was equally drab flavor-wise, but the quality of the fish was a highlight. Good use of greens to complement the fish. The empanada was terrible. Soggy, undercooked, and the stuffing (spinach and chicken) did not fit well. The flavors were off, and certainly didn't taste like anything eaten in the Caribbean. The chicken wings were quite good, although they were not crispy at all--which isn't necessarily bad, as the BBQ sauce was hearty and tasty. The quesadilla was...not really appetizing. Imagine a thin layer of cheap Costco cheese between a store-bought flour tortilla. No effort. No real grace. Boring and underwhelming. The ambiance was cool. Statues of santos (I noticed elegua and chango). Loved the lighting. Overall, not a good Caribbean restaurant for people who are from the Caribbean and/or know high quality Caribbean food. More like an imposter--a place for people to "pretend" to eat Caribbean food. read more

We have friends that live in the area, and love this place. They wanted to go here for their last meal before moving out of the city. The highlight of the evening was the sangria, in which we got 2 pitchers for 6 guests total. Those were amazing, and easy to get trashed, if that's what you're looking for. However, the food was very average, nothing I really enjoyed. We ordered several things to share, too, including the: -Paella, which was very bland, most boring paella I've ever had, and also very expensive for this tiny bowl; not even served in the traditional platter -Chicken Wings - fine, but worth skipping -Fried New Potatoes with aioli - I did like these a lot, one of my favorite dishes -Platanos Maduros - sweet banana with black beans & sour cream - I also loved this dish, the plantains were great!!! There had to be other dishes we ordered too, but everything was forgettable. The whole meal was quite expensive too for what it was, coming out to $50/person with tax and tip. As I take a look at the menu for a second time, I guess I would return to try other things - perhaps we ordered the wrong things. Loveeee Cha Cha Cha's. I've been to the Mission district location a couple of times. Highly recommend. This location is great too--much bigger I think. If you haven't tried the sangria--try the sangria! It's perfectly sweet and delicious. I love a good sangria. :) We always get the shrimp with the cream sauce (cajun shrimp). It comes with fresh bread. The sauce is creamy, spicy, and so flavorful. I loveeee soaking it up in the bread. They have other great dishes too but this time we stuck with cajun shrimp. I tried their oolong roasted milk tea with boba. The boba tasted artificially sweet and wasn't the right texture/chewiness. The tea was alright. A little watery and even at 30% sweetness tasted quite sweet. I'm halfway through the drink and don't think I'll finish it. I wouldn't say the inside felt particularly warm or welcoming. Even though the restaurant is smaller and harder to be seated, for some reason both the food and service have always been better than the Mission restaurant. My go tos are: -The ceviche, always fresh, flavorful especially with a squeeze of lemon and always a big portion. -The plantains with creme sauce. They're fried perfectly and compliment any other dish on the menu. Also perfect for vegetarians. Definitely their signature dish. As a heads up, they don't take reservations but can often be crowded. I've learned how to read the room. I was there for Valentine's Day and it was LOUD, LOUD. I come out to support live music and if a restaurant and/or bar has a live band - I'm there to support the restaurant and LIVE music. If I just wanted LOUD music - I'd go to a concert where I bring earplugs and don't expect to have a conversation. However, if I choose to support a restaurant that supports live music, I expect the music to be at a level where I do not have to yell to the server and bartender so they can hear my order (yes this happened) and I do expect to be able to speak with those at my table from time to time without shouting. LIVE music does not equate to loud music. You would doing your dining customers a favor by asking the bands to turn the volume down a bit so that everyone can enjoy. The volume should enhance the dining experience - not take away from it. Lower volume also enhances the music as LOUD volume distorts it. Thank you Onar for supporting live music.
