This morning at the Stonestown Farmers Market I got the opportunity to try the meat patties. Patties offered - beef, curry chicken, spinach, and mushroom. I bought beef, curry chicken, and mushroom. $8 each. They were sold warm. Later at home I plated them. Cut each one in half. It appeared I got two beef as the meat looked like ground beef, and one mushroom. Unless the beef was spicy and tasted like curry too. At any rate the patties tasted very good. Very similar to empanadas. Next week I'll go by and ask for a description of both the beef and the curry chicken. Sure didn't taste like chicken though. Overall 3.5 stars. My wife and I came over the holiday weekend as some of the other Jamaicans in the area recommended this spot to us. The Chicken Patty was also delicious and had great flavor. I wasn't expecting ground chicken to be used since every other time I've had a chicken patty, the meat isn't ground. It's a good alternative from a cost perspective however. The Sorrel left a bit to be desired. It had great flavor and I loved that I could taste the ginger. However, the drink had way too much sugar. I'm not sure if it is premixed but I had to dilute my drink with water just to get through it. It's possible that it is supposed to be diluted and I had a bad batch, so I'll try it again next time. The Highs: The filling in the curry chicken patty was tasty. The person serving it was friendly and we received the patty quickly. It was a convenient snack to share on our way to dinner. The Lows: I typically prefer a flaky crust on my patties. This did not have a flaky crust at all. It was still pretty good though. Wife asked me to grab some more patties since I was driving up to visit family. It was close to closing so they didn't have much, but they were able to accommodate me and provide me frozen patties (had 6hr drive back home). Came here for lunch with some girlfriends. It is a outdoor kiosk that you order at the window and pickup when they call your name. There are about 4 tables that seat 2 that are covered/ sheltered and another 4 tables on the sidewalk. We all got the jerk chicken plate at it was so delicious! It came with a drum and thigh over rice and beans, side salad and plantain bananas. All of us enjoyed it and couldn't even finish the plate but I'm sure my husband could have finished it off. The only meh thing was the salad, everything else was delicious and perfectly spiced -- not too sweet, spicy, and flavorful. There is such a dearth of Jamaican food in the bay area anything is welcome, but this is legitimately great for a lunch spot. I was catering for a smaller group than their website would cater to and had trouble reaching them over the phone, so I went over the day before and they took my order. I've always visited this location in person. I've only tried the vegetarian options and they were delicious. I've had both the spinach and mushroom patties. My friend really liked the lentil patties and every time I've tried to order them they were sold out after 4 pm so go early if you want those! The curry chicken was packed with flavor! The level of spice was perfect - definitely present but not overpowering. And the minced chicken was moist. The rice and beans had a gentle coconut flavor. The sautéed veggies were delicious! They balanced the flavorful chicken well without being bland. And they were tender so they still had a good bite to them. We sat down at a table nearby and dug into the food. She loved it and said she would definitely come back for more next time. It was super fast and came with extra hot sauce for adding onto the patties. The hot sauce, btw, is really good, super sour and vinegary, and just enough heat to pack a punch but not be overwhelming. I used most of mine on the spinach patty, while my partner used just a bit as he found the beef extremely well seasoned and didn't want to lose that flavour. The spinach patty is good, but definitely not as intensely seasoned and spiced as the beef (hence the hot sauce really complemented it). My partner found the beef patty to be very rich and delicious. We both enjoyed our food and at the same time, we were extremely jealous of the table next to us that got the stew. The best way I can describe them is sort of like an empanada but with a bit more heft - but in a good way.
