I almost told them not to order it because usually Ribs are only good at BBQ and smokehouses!! It turned out that the VooDoo ribs was PHENOMENAL and Tony's salad is not a salad! It's either a cool drug or a day dream!! The last place to eat before going to the airport was ChaCha Coconut again and this time it was our choice willingly and intentionally!! We are glad we stopped by My wife and I decided to head out to Cha Cha Coconuts at St Armands yesterday for dinner. What we didn't expect was a quiet circle, not many people walking around and the restaurant was maybe a third full. While not so good for the retailers, it worked out great for us. We picked an outdoor table, had great attentive service our entire visit, and great food without much of a wait. My dinner of choice was their Cuban Mixed Sandwich, made with roast pork, ham, and salami. It was large and crunchy with a buttery feel. Although I wasn't very hungry when I arrived, it was so good I made myself finish it while it was newly made instead of taking some of it home. I'm going to say what I almost always say with Cuban sandwiches, I wish it had more pickles. That's just me, not on the restaurant, I don't think my opinion will ever change how a traditional Cuban sandwich is made - lol. My wife also had a winner with their Brazilian Citrus Chicken. It looked fantastic, all tropical and everything. Thumbs up from my wife for the marinated chicken. We just missed the live music, which I believe they are currently offering 4 times a week. I have a personal struggle with places with ratings less than 4 stars...It's like you walk by, place is packed, people look like they're having a good time, but my fellow Yelpers tell me it's meh. I'm torn. Every. Time. So our stomachs got the best of us and we grabbed a table for apps and drinks before our dinner reservation at another nearby spot. Yelpers don't lie. 2 stars for sure. Visited Cha Cha Coconuts on a day trip to Sarasota! It's located in St Armand's Circle and it was pretty busy, sat at the bar for a quick drink and bite to eat. Took a little time for any of the bartenders to come help us. But once we ordered everything came out quick which was great! Me and my partner got the Soca Coconut Shrimp Meal to split. Coconut shrimp and fries were not bad but the coleslaw was very bland. I ordered the cha cha coconut drink and it was nice and refreshing on a hot FL summer day. I loved that even though it was a frozen drink it wasn't overly sweet it was just right! Would def stop back by for a quick drink if I'm ever in the area again! So fun to revisit an old favorite. Back in the 90s, I always brought out-of-town guests here, and to the former location atop the old St. Pete Pier. While my taste in drinks has changed since the beepers and fanny packs era, I did like the margarita and the grouper nuggets were divine-with a batter that was crunchy, light and flavorful. Stopped here even though the reviews were mixed. We wanted something light as it was 3pm. I had the Mango ice tea. The tea tastes like Nestea. They added mango purée then shove it. Added a lemon and lime. It was refreshing. I probably would try something different next time. We sat outside and loved the ambiance. The music provided was steel drums and made a lovely background sound. Made me feel like I had been transported back to my favorite eatery in Jamaica. The fritter batter tasted good. We ended up here because our first choice was too busy. With that said, we had a really good meal. Good location. Open air indoor seating and outdoor seating. Indoors was actually pleasantly cool for a July evening. Live music was fun. Food was actually way better than was expected. It was very tasty. Between us we ordered salads (try the Tony salad) and sandwiches/burgers. We did not have seafood. I feel like if you want seafood, there might be better choices, but that's all hunch. The manager delivered our food and came back around to check on us. She said the dressings and sauces are all homemade and I believe her. My son's sandwich came with a slightly curry tasting mayo sauce called Havana sauce and it was amazing! A shoe would taste good with that on top. The pina colada smoothie was delicious! Rich for a smoothie, it was basically dessert but when isn't a pina colada dessert? Peel n' eat shrimp had good flavor and came with an excellent remoulade. The sweet potato fries were hot, crispy, and came with a honey mustard that had a healthy hint of horse radish - perfect combination and all around well done. Mahi sandwich was meh, my kid liked the shrimp tacos but rice was over cooked and little bland. Burger with pineapple was good but the bun they use for it was not really good . They had normal kid options for kids under 10. They also were able to accommodate for one our kids shellfish allergies. The restaurant vibe is laid back ( that's why we chose it ) , kid friendly . The grouper bites were delicious & the queso blanco was nitro great, where it went south was my Lobster roll. Luckily I didn't eat it before seeing a small black bug crawling out from under the bread with hardly any lobster on it. Cha Cha Coconuts was the first place I have ate in Lido Key/Sarasota that I was like, meh I really did not like that. But the service was wonderful. If the service is great and the food is just okay then I am split 50/50. Again like many other people, I wish we could give half stars and if we could, then this place would get a solid 2.5 stars. I went in for lunch on a Friday afternoon around 11:30. The place was pretty much empty and we were told to just pick our seat. The first thing we noticed is the paper menu is also a place mat! I love this and think more restaurants should just make the menu a place mat. We surveyed the menu and I knew exactly what I was hungry for. Our waiter came over and we ordered drinks. I ordered just a lemonade. The waiter asked me if I wanted the lemonade with free refills or the made from scratch lemonade, which you don't get refills. I told him I would take the free refill lemonade. He then said, what if you get the made from scratch lemonade and then I can give you the free refill one after your first glass. It ended up being like .75 cents more and I was fine with that. I wish I didn't as the made from scratch lemonade was awful. It tasted like the lemons were spoiled and their was no sugar in the glass. Thankfully I was able to pour it out into a water cup I had and just drank the lemonade with refills which was fine by me. I decided to order the Emily's Soca Coconut Shrimp. This came with Island fries, coleslaw, and spicy coconut mustard sauce. This was the first time I can say the Coconut shrimp were bad. You can tell they just use regular shrimp cocktail shrimp, the small ones you find in grocery stores. The shrimp were over cooked and hard. The shrimp really did not taste like coconut at all. I was not pleased. The coleslaw was awful. I love me some coleslaw and again it almost tasted spoiled. The fries were good and lightly dusted with a good seasoning. Overall I was not impressed by the coconut shrimp at all. At the restaurant I had told our waiter about our dislike for the different items and he was supremely gracious and offered to fix it all. I was hungry so I did eat what I had and since we were in a hurry we did not want to wait for the remake. I am not someone who wants anything for free so we paid our bill and left, but they did offer to comp items, but I did not want to do that. Again the service here was phenomenal. They took great care for us. I am not sure if it was just an off day, but the food was just really bad. I would be willing to try again to see if we have a similar issues, but not sure I will because Sarasota/Lido Key have so many good other options . If your in the area, just be cautious, but try it if you want. Maybe your food will be better than mine! read more
