my fiancé and I decided to try this place because the smell coming from the outside smelled delicious but we were sadly mistaken. service was terrible, our waiter couldn't explain the menu and he mumbled a lot and they also sat us at their crappiest booth! the seats are all torn up and it just looks very unprofessional. that aside, the best thing we tried was the chaat samosa and it was OKAY at best. The tea is very weak, the mango lassi is overwhelmingly yogurty and doesn't taste like mango and you get a kids cup of soda when you order a thali. The food that is served in your thali is very bland too... the roti just tastes like flour and tastes like something is missing, the daal is watery, the paneer tikka masala is very cinnamony and the vegetables in the veggie masala are still crunchy!! Overall not a good experience, I don't recommend going here if you want delicious authentic indian food! oh and it's also way overpriced for the quality of the food! S. U. C. K. S. SUCKS. read more

Service is pretty lacking here. Hubby and I arrived for dinner and 3 different people asked us if we wanted dinner and then made mono-syllabic sounds and strange gestures that I didn't know if that meant 'follow me' or 'just a second'. I was totally confused. I felt like the servers were just grunting at me. When we finally got seated, we asked for water (it was one of those 100-degree days) and the water was room temperature. Gack! We had to ask for ice. We ordered Gobi Manchurian, Paneer Tikka Masala, Vegetable Biryani, and some garlic naan. The Gobi Manchurian was really good. The Paneer dish was kind of bland and I wouldn't get that again. Also, their tamarind chutney is so watery, that I was severely disappointed in it. I like to dip my naan into that and it was so runny, it wouldn't even cling to the bread. This place is always pretty crowded so I think most of the dishes are pretty good. I liked everything we had except that paneer dish and the tamarind chutney. Will try again to get more of a feel of the menu. read more

worst service. i would like to give negative rating. after 15 mins of seating, you have to call them to serve atleast water and acknowledge. they bring puri and pani puri water on same plate with all puri's wet that you cannot enjoy and mix up the order...and when you complain, they stay rigid as if they dont care.... read more

Went there to satisfy chaat cravings. This is my first time and will be my LAST TIME. Quality of chaat was not good, nor were the chaat masala right. I agree with the other reviewers on the quality of substandard chat. Also place is crowded and seating feels on top of other diners. Too crowded. The tea was allright. Was told wait is 5 minutes, ended waiting 20 minutes. Will be my last time. Will head out to Berkeley to get my chaat cravings. Maybe the other food will be all right but if the place is called Chaat bhavan, I expect Chaat to be good. Authentic tasting Indian food. I have tried most of the curries and they have this authentic Punjabi taste to them . The spice level is just right. Had food catered for a party as well and was liked by all of my Indian friends. The thali is very decently priced and comes with plenty of dishes. Very good service as well. read more

The food is okay, but they are very unorganized and don't follow instructions. I had to clean the couch by myself when I entered. Worst service. And very unhygienic. Probably the worst experience, I had ordered for Pani Puri TOGO. Their service is sometimes slow. There are only a few things in the menu which are good. The thali is great value for money and is good. Vada pav is good. But the hara bears kebab is always burnt. Very good tasty food. Not very greasy or creamy. Just the right amount of spices and flavor. Sprouts potato mix for Pani Poori was great. Aloo Paratha and Kofta curry was Yumm!
