I've dined here a few times over the past couple of years, and never had a bad experience. I guess that's mostly because I go in the mid to late afternoon, and not late night Friday/Saturday, lol! My recommendation is to go during off-peak times when they're not so busy, but your results may vary otherwise. The Brisket taco is highly recommended, very tender and full of beef flavor; not greasy or gristly...just darn good. Of course, the margaritas are top notch. Just be careful, they're potent and delicious! If you're getting one after bar hopping all night long, you may not notice, but be warned, they kick pretty hard. I haven't tried all the items, but each one I've had has been better than serviceable, and beats anything a fast food Mexican place could hope to offer. Really wish I could have tasted their food to write a review. Unfortunately I did not. The drive through line was long so an employee came out and opened the second line. Myself and 2 other cars went into the second line. The other 2 cars placed their order. I was waiting to place mine and the same employee came out and told me to move forward so she could close down the lane. I told her I hadn't ordered. She rudely told me she would take my order. She came out and took the payment from both the cars in front of me. Never looked at me. Then she came out with their food and never looked at me. I've eaten here several times but I have never gone through the drive thru. Today was a first for me. With 3 cars ahead of me, it took 30 just to be able to order. The food is usually good but to keep a customer waiting for an insane amount of time considering the amount of staff this place employs is just crazy. I ordered a catering meal and had to pick it up through the drive-through, you can see into the kitchen from the drive-through window. I witnessed a female employee texting on her phone with bare hands over and over again and then digging straight into a handful of shredded cheese with the same unwashed hands. Cashier was by far very aloof about completing my order I would say borderline rude but she wouldn't speak as if I was to read her mind. I recommend Chacho's for some comfort food. I always have the Large Steakhouse Nachos with yellow cheese and refried beans. They come with a side of sour cream and guacamole. I share them with friends because I don't want people to think I have an eating disorder. I should mention a few things I didn't like. First, the amount of sour cream and guacamole do not match the amount of nachos. Second, the staff seemed a bit aggressive - I think it's a result of how hard they need to work and the noisy environment - but still, be friendly. We have been wanting to come here for the longest time for the nachos alone... It's upsetting to only give them one star. I'll start with the "positive" as in singular. The salsas are all AMAZING!!! That's it. When we walked in the corridor wreaked of cigarette smoke. The floors were filthy and sticky. The free chips were hard and stale. Let me preface this next part... We told the man taking our order we were vegetarian and asked for recommendations... We then ordered the Bean & Cheese Nachos as well as the Mexican Veggie Plate(not on the menu but on their cash register) which included a guacamole taco; bean and cheese taco; a veggie taco w/ guacamole; and a tostada w/ guacamole. The guacamole was absolutely inedible. It was warm and had a weird consistency like paste and I cannot even describe the taste because I've never tasted anything like that... I say this with 22y of restaurant experience. And it takes a lot for me to write a review... as in absolutely amazing or literally, "I will never eat here again." This unfortunately falls into the latter category. As you see from our order much of it had the inedible guacamole, so we couldn't eat any of those items. Even my 1y son who typically loves guacamole SPIT IT OUT!!! When my husband went to get napkins and silverware which are near the kitchen, he saw one of the line cooks with his hands in both the salads and chicken. He then nukes that chicken and tosses it onto someone's nachos. My husband was so disgusted he asked that we leave because at this point he thought he was going to throw up. The person with the salad did not have chicken and this man shouldn't have been handling chicken while also making a salad. So we decide to leave. While we're in the parking lot I tell my husband he should go ask for a refund because we just walked away from nearly $50 of food that was not and could not be eaten. So he goes back inside and witnesses the manager fire a different employee. After that he speaks with the manager who gave him a full refund after hearing our experience. Furthermore, the manager proceeds to tell my husband the beans are made with all the pork drippings!!! Literally the Bean & Cheese Nachos were recommended to us by the guy taking our order whom we specified to that we were VEGETARIAN!!! Mind blown! I think the manager needs to read this review and clean house. Obviously the staff needs additional training in cleanliness, proper food handling, dietary recommendations for vegetarians... thank God it wasn't an allergen we were needing to avoid! If this review sounds harsh it's because we both left that upset by the experience and were not finicky people. But things I do expect is cleanliness, friendly service, knowledgeable staff, and quality food. This was an epic fail. We were served undercooked bacon on our tacos, even though we explicitly requested well done bacon. We were told, "we burn our bacon, it's all well done" and we're made to feel foolish for asking for well done bacon. When we checked the tacos and saw that the bacon was not even cooked to a healthy level, we asked for a refund and were told that the refund was going to go back on our credit card: they didn't ask for our receipt and when I checked my online bank register, the refund wasn't listed. The manager, Steve, said the refund would appear later and that it wasn't on there because it is Sunday. They obviously don't care about their customers here, we will never return. read more

Chacho's? More like GHETTOCHO'S. "LINDA" the GENERAL MANAGER doesn't have good customer service etiquette. I ALWAYS request "no tomatoes" and yet they ALWAYS add tomatoes. This has happened multiple times, as well as other mistakes on my orders. I finally got fed up with their mistakes today, and called to speak with "LINDA". She wanted me to travel BACK to the restaurant to replace my order, although I was on my lunch break and don't have the convenience or time to do so. In result, she recommended me to bring the food back "another day". In response I told her that I would not drive up there JUST so my order can be replaced without accommodating me in a additional way. LINDA, could not take responsibility for the mistake and insisted, "The other manager made the burrito and said she did not put tomatoes." Well, I sure as hell didn't put tomatoes. At this point, you have wasted your customer's TIME, and GAS. As a business when YOU make a mistake, YOU are SOLELY responsible to FIX that mistake. You cannot inconvenience a customer for something YOUR EMPLOYEES did wrong. No one wants to travel back and use more of their TIME, GAS, and ENERGY for YOUR mistakes. At that point, you need to offer a refund, a new meal without having to return the 'mistake' meal, or some sort of discount for a future order. I don't know why this was rated 2 1/2 stars. Come on. Please look at the picture of the nachos ( folks this is 1/2 order) . We did not look at the menu careful enough. We needed 1/3 of this. I know everything is big in Texas but this is crazy big. The nachos are home made and no ground beef here. There are chunks of beef in this nachos. Theres refried beans included as well. We asked a local and came here. The nachos is crazy good you have to try it. There also a generous portion of dipping cheese sauce so dip your bare nachos if you find one. This Chacho's is straight garbage. I'm sorry; but I ordered the chicken nachos and thank God that this wasn't the first Chacho's I've tried, because had I not been to other Chacho's locations I would have never eaten at any other Chacho's location ever again (that's how bad their food was). Chacho's is really only good for a couple of reasons: Frozen Jack n Cokes and margaritas. That's it. Because let's face it, their "food products" are lame! Me and my after-the-bar friends always make the rookie mistake of ordering food here thinking "maybe tonight will be the night that their food will WOW me!" That has yet to happen... and if you read their menu for more than a second, you will see that they conspicuously advise you that they put MSG in their food. Oh yeah, and there's always careless amounts of chicken bones in their food. Their famous nachos are really nothing more than possibly 5 pounds of cheese on the very TOP layer only and a whole lot of just lonely chips on the bottom. Plus their tortilla soup had a big lump of cheese that melted all together with a lot of grease swimming around the bowl. No thanks! I've even noticed that my out-of-town friends and family members, whose stomachs are just not used to all that mess, ALWAYS complain of stomach pains right after eating at Chacho's. Their ustomer service sucks 8 times out of 10. Annnddd the place, no matter how much they clean it, will just always look like a dump. But then again, what kind of San Antonian would I be if I gave Chacho's less than 3-stars??? And for that reason, I always stick to the frozen drinks and nothing else. Chachos is one of those Mexican restaurants you go to because you're drunk or you truly enjoy the food. You don't really feel confident about the safety of the food handling but you don't care because its so cheap and tasty the good sense flies out the window. Its been around for years though so they are doing something right. This is a popular after bar spot to grab food and gets super packed. Some nights they have karaoke and bands jam. Good times at this location. Nachos, burritos, sweet tea, frozen jack and coke, cilantro ranch salsa and mango salsa is something you should try at least once. read more

Love there jack and coke Margaritas. They are so strong that you get a buzz with one I'm not kidding. I also tried for the first time there tortilla soup. It is soooooo good. TRY IT! They are as good as there puffy tacos. The only thing that I found that I feel they need to improve on is keeping the restrooms clean . They had no soap and trash was filled up. They need to clean more often. Talk to one of the employees and let them know but they only refilled the soap but didn't clean the restrooms. (No joke my tooth hurt after biting into the chip and my stomach was killing me) So we went back to the restaurant to inform the manager and get a new order. After speaking to the manager and telling him the chips were stale he replied with, "They aren't stale, they're undercooked" so I replied to him, "So either way, you're aware they're not cooked correctly?" This place cannot be beat when it comes to price, quality, and quantity. The nachos are soooo good. The servings are ridiculously huge for the price you pay. I definitely wouldn't recommend getting a full-sized order for just one person unless you plan on taking most of it home and surviving off it for the next couple of days. Which actually sounds like a good idea. I think I'll try that next time I go. The only thing I've had that I probably wouldn't get again is the beef fajita burrito with queso sauce. When we turned of legal age at the end of the 80's decade, the novel idea of someone mixing Everclear into something as innocent and harmless as a strawberry margarita was awe inspiring. We would sit giddily in our chairs and marvel at the liquor themed cornice above the counter displaying alternate bottles of Cuervo and Everclear. Just a few years removed from trash can punch in the backyard of some unsuspecting parents, who wanted nothing more than to get away for a quiet weekend alone, while their kids had a few hundred friends and strangers over for cocktails, we cherished the idea. Well that was the way we liked to start off the evening back then, just a couple of Moonshine margarita's to start the night. Today that would be the way I would end an afternoon. I'm so old! Today Chacho's seems to be carrying on the same way, sans the Everclear, with revelers streaming in at all hours of the night for booze and nachos. Unfortunately it has the look and smell of a bar now and nothing is as unappetizing as the idea of eating in a smelly bar. The tacos are still fat and loaded with savory chicken or beef fajitas. The barbacoa on corn on weekends is still enough to make three tacos out of and the nachos come in three sizes; big huge and really? If your workplace is close enough and you and the gang want a place to throw down a mountain of nachos and a couple of real tequila margaritas then Chacho's is still a great place to do just that. I wouldn't consider bringing Grandma and the kids here on a Sunday after the sit, kneel and stand dance for some well deserved barbacoa. There are much quieter and cleaner places for that. read more

I used to frequent this location for after work Happy Hours a few years ago, but never ate there. Fast forward to 2011. I met my son there for breakfast during a quiet weekday morning. Yuck....I could smell the nasty kitchen from the condiment area. Once our order was ready and we chose a place to sit, I cringed. The overall feeling is of sitting in a toxic environment. You can't help but notice (and smell) the sticky tabletops, chairs and floors. My son loves this place because it's cheap and the servings are monstrous. I have fond memories of all the lovely ladies I met here over drinks. For dining? I won't be back. It's just too dirty and stinky in there. So many varieties at the salsa bar inside, don't settle for the bland, boring one they give you in the (5-lane!) drive-thru, trek your hungry little self inside and see what strikes your interest. The avocado and creamy cilantro ones are each delicious, and definately selections you don't normally find at your neighborhood taqueria. This place really lives up to the "everything is bigger in TX" slogan. Portions are ridiculous and prices are very low. I know you don't normally like to share, but trust me on this one. In the morning I like the breakfast enchiladas. Eggs, bacon, sausage and veggies wrapped in corn tortillas and topped with ranchero sauce and melted cheddar cheese. Try them with a little mango pico de gallo on top to add a fresh bite to this otherwise heartily savory dish. The tortillas that accompany every plate are great. Very thick, with almost a pancake-like taste. (And before you dismiss my review because you think I'm crazy... I've actually heard this from several people!) We love this restaurant. The fiesta lettuce wraps are my favorite! It's a very casual environment and the staff are very friendly. It's a bit noisy inside, but there is an outdoor patio too. I've only been to this restaurant twice, and both times have been during the day (noon to 3 PM). I've also only ever had the nachos. With that said, the nachos are among the best nachos I've ever had. They pile the chips high, add your meat(s) of choice, and then pile on the cheese. Home of devastating nachos and crazy strong drinks, how could I not be a fan? I had only visited a Chacho's once before while I was in school, and while I remember the nachos being out of this world, I was pretty drunk, so I was afraid I had just imagined the nachos. But they were real, I got to re-discover them recently! The Monster Kong nachos, not for the feint of heart, have at least 3 types of cheeses, and likely as many types of meat, guac, jalapeños, and I forget what else, but they are pure goodness. Make sure to bring at least 2 other friends to take on this bad boy! The fajita tacos are okay, honestly not better than a lot of tex-mex places, but not bad either. Drinks are pretty strong, which can be both a good and bad thing, but they taste good. Atmosphere can be a little intimidating if you're not a local, at least for me it was, even if I was there with SA peeps. Prices are pretty reasonable and the food was pretty decent. Not much to say about service as you go to the register, order, and they bring the food to the table. Fairly quiet environment when I went, probably a good place to kick back with a few friends and watch a game if they have it on My friend got a burrito, I ended up getting the chicken combo platter, and we split an order of brisket nachos. Food came out hot, and in very large portions. We actually didn't even come close to finishing the meal because there was so much food, you definitely get your money's worth. This place has changed their food! I'm so disappointed. All I wanted was a good quesadilla like they use to make. What were we served? Basically pita bread folded around shredded chicken (like from a can) and melted kraft cheese slices. So disappointing!
