A cutesy coffee shop tucked in between two chic clothing stores. Kailua is blooming and bursting with more coffee and food joints. I've been a loyal customer here. I don't even live in Kailua but I always end up here. The tourist also find their way here to order coffee and take cute wedding photos. The locals actually drink coffee, talk story, & attempt to get work done. Maybe they get mor work done than me....I'm looking out the window if I can't get into a work mode. They're still using fresh flowers! Today the AC isn't has strong. It's so hot, so I made my Makapuu coffee drink blended and icy cold. We all need to beat the summer heat somehow. While I'm listening to Elvis and reviewing what I need to complete in my lessons, I always sip my coffee. It's an extra good day if I get a seat next to an outlet. So far I counted 4 outlets. Psst. First of all, it's not a Starbucks so that's an immediate plus. But also, it's cute in there, the barista asked my preferences as she made my iced matcha latte, and I didn't even have to ask her not to overload it with ice. Plus, the adorable little donuts are GLUTEN FREE! Being gluten intolerant blows chunks but they made it more tolerable for me today. After seeing the great reviews for ChadLou's, decided to check it out. The ice cream sandwiches everyone raves about were ok. The cookies, I guess, are homemade but I think the ice cream is Dave's. I found the cookie/ice cream combo was hard to eat as the cookie was too hard to cut through -size was also on the smaller side. Cute seating area although mostly taken up by people in groups doing work. Assortment of coffees and teas and a cute atmosphere make this place worth visiting but not necessarily a destination for me. read more

I love a good ice cream sandwich...especially with homemade cookies that have a good chew and crisp where the cold creamy deliciousness touches. Add that to a piping hot americano and I'm so happy!! ChadLous is a cute little shop with that old school coffee shop vibe. Rustic and homely but modern and refreshing. The Dave's ice cream is perfect (after all it's Dave's). And the baked goods have not disappointed yet. There hasn't been anything to scream and shout about but it is consistently good. The coffee is hot and smooth and they have a variety of teas and various shakes to pick from. My family loves it here and so do I. When we are in Kailua it's definitely a stop to make. read more

I found this place while searching for desserts in the Kailua area, but I was pleasantly surprised that they are not only a coffee house, but they serve pastries and bagel sandwiches as well. I brought my 3 year old here to fuel up after the dinosaur exhibit at Windward Mall and although the seating has that "lived in" feel, it was nice not to have to worry that he was going to ruin the furniture. While we waited for our food and drinks, we borrowed a couple of children's books from the book shelves. That made the waiting fun. Our bagel sandwich was HUGE and delicious. They were out of a couple of ingredients so the server worked with me on creating a sandwich, which was awesome. Being that I am in love with any latte art, I got a hot vanilla latte, but when I saw their presentation of an iced coffee in the mason jar, I wished I had gotten one. So cute! We finished off our late lunch with 2 ice cream sandwiches that we could customize with our choice of cookies and ice cream. They look like regular ice cream sandwiches but the cookies are baked fresh and they are just so scrumptious! Definitely recommend! Location/Parking: This coffee shop is located in Kailua across from a large home improvement store. The parking is located in the back of this old building. Coffee/Food: I had the macadamia nut mocha iced coffee, my husband had an expresso and my daughter had a scone. My husband enjoyed his strong espresso. My coffee is tasty and strong. The scone just came out of the oven so it was warm and flaky. I also noticed they had a small breakfast menu but we only stopped by for the coffee. Price: The coffee prices are priced like other coffee shops around $4-$5. Ambiance: It's a nice casual place to have your morning coffee and to study for the college students. They open from 7am - 2pm during the pandemic and are open for sit-down dining. It's a great spot for working as they have a lot of seating, a couple outlets and wifi. However, I noticed that the baristas tend to take off their masks when there isn't anyone ordering (witnessed this with 2 different baristas) and the drinks and snacks are mediocre. I've ordered a vanilla latte and the syrup they use is very generic and the coffee flavor isn't rich or strong. The strawberry scone is very flour-y tasting and is very dense (not flakey and buttery). The chocolate chip cookie has a powder like consistency and lacks any flavor. In short, great place for working but the food and drinks are mediocre. read more

Some of my favorite menu items are not available right now due to covid, but the Sandwiches they still provide are amazing . Additionally I love their new location and the wrap around porch. When you are waiting for a table or window shopping, an Ice Grind from ChadLou's Coffee Lounge would be great to walk around with. Blended ice, coffee, ice cream, and flavor, so thick you have to let it warm up a bit to suck it up through the straw. I like the Kula (lavender), the Honu (caramel), and the Raspberry-Almond. Open air and relaxed, regulars sit in the small sitting area doing work and eating ice cream sandwiches. Absolutely incredible coffee. My fiancé and I stopped by for a pour over and a cold brew, and both were fantastic. Super cute seating outside is available. The barista was very friendly. They sell a lot of local products which is a plus, especially for my fiancé and I who were on vacation from California. All covid protocols were in place and I felt extremely safe. 10/10 would go out of my way to visit again. I wish I'd bought a bag of coffee to bring home with us. read more

We yelped, we came, we will move on. This indeed look like a really cool coffee joint. The setup is really awkward though. Limited seating inside and some outside. The register is up against a wall and virtually only one person can get through to see the pastries at a time. I really wanted to like this place though. I first ordered a dry cappuccino, for here, and it was more like a latte, to go. Could taste lots of milk, and no espresso. They did remake it for me which was very nice and they were nice about it. It tasted okay in the end since I changed my order to a cortado because I feared it would be too much milk. The main issue was the first time I ordered, like other reviewers state, it took so so long. I literally browsed through a shop next door, ate all of my banana bread (which preferably I eat with my coffee), and still didn't have my order up w/ only one family in front of me. That was odd. The seating outside is nice, except there was a social worker behind us with someone who apparently lost her job and crying there. So I was craving an ice cream sandwich and I was told that this place had the best ice cream sandwich. And even though I live 13 miles away and had 1 hour before closing, I decided to go. I get to the place....and it's soooo chill. Their ice creams are Dave's ice cream. Yay for local. But since we got there so late, they didn't have enough chocolate chip cookies for our ice cream sandwiches. So we ended up getting it with sugar cookies. They bake their cookies fresh every morning...but like I said, we went right before closing. So the cookie selection was slim, and the cookie wasn't fresh-fresh. I often go to ChadLou's on Saturdays, and the cashier is usually the same woman. The customer service there is wonderful. They are friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about coffee, which is amazing. The pastries are always well done, even the sunburnt cookies! Those are my favorite cookies on the island. The only thing that makes coming here difficult, is the parking. Street parking only, and on a Saturday, it's that much more difficult. Clearly this place is worth searching for street parking for, because I keep coming back for more! read more

My new favorite thing to get there if I want a light lunch is their Avocado toast or any of their tartines. The bread that they use are firmer than the most so it keeps the toppings on well. I stopped by here this past Sunday afternoon with my wife and her parents. We were driving through Kailua and I happened to want my afternoon pick me up. So we checked out all of the coffee places nearby and Chadlous was the one that stood out to me because it said they were roasters. Whenever we arrived to the shop. we headed inside and found ourselves in an area where you could have coffee. Then there was a separate room right next door where you could sit and enjoy your coffee. The dining room type area had no decor that I remember but the area to order your coffee there was a bunch of interesting tiles making up the side of he coffee bar. For my coffee on this day I decided to go with an iced latte. After a 5 minute wait or so it was ready and we were out the door and on our way. Whenever I finally tasted it I certainly got a big hit of the milk but couldn't really identify the coffee at all. I saw it go in so I am sure it was just diluted from the milk and ice cubes. It did still taste good though, it just didn't have that big hit of coffee flavor which I like. The bottom line for me is that I would stop by here again in the future. Since they are roasters, I would loved to try some of their hot espresso whenever it hasn't been diluted. read more

Stopped in for brekkie and coffee for the first time hoping for a new go-to place. Truly, I wanted to love it, but it was just meh... The gentleman who took our order was wonderful - charming and friendly. Appears that he was covering the front while also being the chef. Give him a raise pronto!!! The barista was incredibly slow and inconvenienced/unconcerned about preparing our coffees. Not ok. The kicker for me was that it's a very rare event when your hot meals are served before the coffees. Come on - it was not busy and only a latte and cappuccino. We normally order at least 2 coffees with breakfast, but not today. Grrr. I had the frittata. Taste was basic, but not impressive for almost $10 for a few eggs, a handful of chopped bacon from a bag (not fresh), and a sprinkle od cheese. I guess I just expected more since there is so much competition in Kailua these days. Not saying that I won't try it one more time, but will go in with a different expectation. My friend had the breakfast sandwich. She said it had no flavor and immediately sought out the hot sauce and pepper. For $3 more than our usual brekkie place in town, this was another disappointment. The space is small, but quaint -- I can see why all of the small tables were full of folks on their laptops... Will be a great place to escape between appointments. FINALLY. A great coffee shop. I'm from Los Angeles, a growing and thriving coffee capitol of the world. This place was a breath of fresh air. Great coffee. Beautiful hand made pottery mugs and plate ware. Knowledgeable and friendly staff, and most importantly the best banana bread I've ever had in my life. While Chad Lou's as a name for a coffee shop is akin to pouring sand in my ears, the experience is great from the moment you walk in the door to the moment your caffeine high wanes and you dream about just one more Espresso in that cute cup, with a side of soda water. The first time I came to this coffee shop I ordered an iced honu (mac nut and caramel)latte. It was very tasty. I had also signed up for their rewards program by giving my phone number and received $5 off my next visit, which I think is great that they have a rewards program. It is a small shop, so when it is busy, there's barely anywhere to sit. Other than that, this coffee shop is cute, relaxing (when it's not too busy), and comforting. Today is my second time coming and I came right when they opened, not busy at all. I ordered an iced honu latte again along with a Belgian waffle: banana, walnut, and Nutella. Be very cautious, this waffle is very very sweet and filling. The waffle is good itself, they make it from scratch, but unfortunately my waffle was covered in Nutella, which was too sweet for my taste. So if you do not have a big sweet tooth but want a little bit of sweetness, I would recommend to order the Nutella on the side and add it on yourself. The staff I have encountered were very nice and friendly. They don't mind you asking questions about their food/drink items, which makes it comforting as there are other places where the employees seem annoyed if you do ask any questions. read more

Do not go here for food. All they have right now is a fridge full of ice cold sandwiches/breakfast burritos. They have a toaster to early them Up, but I toasted the burrito for over 5 minutes and it was still cold. I got the nitro cold brew which was ok, but the food situation really just doesn't make any sense. read more
