Well, I went here a long time ago when the location was "The King & Thai". It was only ok then. REVISITED UPDATED REVIEW: This restaurant is new, it looks better from what it was. It's small, probably 8 tables inside. The service is great & I was impressed with how clean it was. My cousin Cindy & I went in here for lunch. It was pretty empty, so I thought maybe the food would be only mediocre, I was wrong! From the start, our Tom Kar Gai was heaven! I also enjoyed my Thai iced tea. Next we ordered Massaman curry with chicken & I ordered Pad See Ew with Beef. It was delicious! I was a used to it being a little sweeter, perhaps a regional thing though. I'll start by saying the people are nice and the food is tasty.....but myself and another person were very sick the following day from the same meal (drunken noodle). I'd love to say we'll be back however it's too much of a risk to go through that again. The other dishes left people happy (garlic chicken) and they were overall satisfied with the food. read more

The most pleasant attentive waiter. Turns out he is owner's son. We all ordered the drunken noodles. Two were with beef and one was with shrimp. The portions are so huge we could have split one meal among the three of us. Four of us each ordered a different dish for dining in. We were all very pleased with our selections. The vegetables were cooked to crisp perfection; noodles had just the right balance of soft and firm; the sauces had a pleasing consistency in each case, and each one was richly flavored but not at all overwhelming. Last year I enjoyed an Uber Eats delivery all the way to Hartford. The experience was more festive this year in-person (yes, you can get here by bus from Hartford but it may not be speedy). My first order was Larb Seen and this time I got Larb Gai, which was more fun because I opted for the Lao-style version. The service is outstanding, and the waitress counseled me on spice level - 3 out of 5 was perfect, with a decent kick at the beginning and some sweat at the end. Although I hope you'll try one of the larbs, or at least one of the Thai dishes that you can't get at your local spot, I actually went for a less exotic item in the appetizer slot. or my appetizer. I opted for the crab rangoon (called crab bag on the Uber Eats) for the pineapple sauce, which was somewhat like duck sauce but has a surprise chili pepper undertone. I've been going to this restaurant for a little over a year now since there has been new management. This restaurant def gives you a family sit down vibe, the owners and staff will greet you with a big welcome! I called ahead of time to reserve a table for ten to have a lunch with all my son's therapists when he aged out of birth 2 3. I appreciate the love and hospitality from the restaurant. I also did a prefix menu and ordered a bunch of different apps and entrees for the group to try; eating family style. My son's therapist appreciated this so much! The table was set up and everything came out in a timely matter which was nice since we were on a time crunch for 2 hours. We got Tom yum soup, chicken wings, papaya salad (lao style not too spicy), yellow curry, pad Thai, drunken noodle, pad thai, and fried rice. Everyone was so full and excited to eat lao-thai food. They def said they would be coming back to eat on their own or with their family. I would def suggest this place if you are looking for authentic lao - thai food. Laotian food at its best. Chicken wings were crispy on the outside and juicy inside. Tom yum salmon had the perfect amount of spice and sourness to it. Tofu laad na was superb. Sometimes it's the small places that feel warm and cozy. It's a small restaurant, decorated well. The great upbeat music filled the room. Upon entering I was greeted by the host with a smile and positive energy, he let me select the table I would like to sit at. He gave me a cold bottle of water and menu. Asked the spice level I would like my pad see-ew. The food was very good. Fresh noodles cooked perfectly, the seasoning was infused perfectly with the dish and it felt balanced. I truly enjoyed this dish. Then he brought out my sticky rice dessert. It felt like home. Although this place is an hour away from my house, I will definitely drive back for the pad see-ew again. The host/ waiter was very busy with all the customers but he had tried his best getting peoples drinks, taking orders, getting boxes to go, ringing people up, taking calls, and despite how busy it was, he still checked in with people to ensure they were happy with their dishes and still maintained a smile. Great food! Seems like all the Thai places have adapted to becoming takeout spots after the pandemic and decided to stay that was.. it's quite a costs saver. So we had to take out we got red curry and pad Thai.... came with a side of spring roll too. It was steaming hot even after a 20min car ride home. For the price tag of $8 it was an awesome lunch option. While the food/ value was good what I didn't like was the way the owner added $2.5 to the bill when I checked out. Upon asking, he said it's coz I asked for chilli sauce. Is he for real?? I don't mind him charging extra but definitely not $2.5 and definitely not without informing me that's felt like open stealing. read more

Found this place near my step daughter's school as I was driving by to pick her up. Passed through a few times before I finally decided today was the day and taking a break from cooking or have my wife cook at home. We ordered red curry and pad Thai. It is a great value at $8 with the curry dish including rice and a roll and pad Thai just including the roll. Both the dishes were yummy and would definitely go back there again for a take out to try something else. Just watch your bill as they tried to charge me an extra $3 for a sauce. Decided to give this place a try: Pros: their shumai and dumplings were excellent. Tender and tasty Mid: pineapple fried rice was pretty good as well Cons: so i ordered the pad sriracha; it was described as drunken noodles with sriracha. But when i got it, it looked like plain noodles with sriracha squirted on top, and a side of sriracha. One would think they would cook them together. The worst thing i got tho was panang curry. Now, normally a curry that cost $15 would have more chicken, etc. Unfortunately, they padded the curry with an OBSCENE amount of green beans. To the point where it was hard to enjoy the curry because there were just beans, undercooked might i add, and a select amount of chicken and other vegetables. Final verdict: okay for appetizers, but their main noodle and curry dishes are overpriced and lackluster. Wow. I am a Thai-American from California. We're traveling across country and tasting all the culinary delights of the various regions. However, there are times when I want the taste of home- my comfort food. We found that here at Champa Lao & Thai. The food was very well prepared and the flavors were spot on. We enjoyed the spring rolls, the fried chicken with chili sauce, and the chicken laad na. I requested a sauce that my mom used to make called Prik Nam Pla. It's the first word that comes to mind to describe the food at Champa, a Lao and Vietnamese food restaurant, where the flavors of Southeast Asia are present in Manchester, with the kindness and charisma of its owner, Johnny, who always serves with a smile. I'm a regular customer, and I must say that I have tried the house specialties, and I've always been surprised by the quality of their food. This time I decided to write about my last visit because I ordered the simplest food possible, and it was of an equally high quality as the special dishes on their menu. I started with pho, a delicious rice noodle soup, to which I added shrimps with bean sprouts, napa, and scallions. The broth is spectacular and the flavor is quite delicate, with a truly delicious taste, as if my mother had made it. Then I ordered Kai Ka Prow, a dish made with ground sauteed chicken with garlic, bell peppers, string beans, fresh basil and Thai chili paste. It's a little bit spicy, but you have the option of ordering it without spice or with more spice if you wish. It is truly spectacular, I was pleasantly surprised, and I am sure I will order it again on my next visit. To finish, I always order Thai iced tea, the best of all I've ever tasted. And all because, according to Johnny, they import the unprocessed tea leaves directly from Asia, which gives a delicious flavor to this refreshing drink. Champa is small, but very cozy. Their menu is quite extensive and has delicious starters that I've tried before, such as dumplings, Thai egg rolls (my favorites), curry puffs (a big surprise!), crab bag (the best ones), chicken wings (crispy and marinated in Thai herbs and spices), and the delicious fried tofu (deep-fried until golden and served with ground peanuts in pineapple sauce). Tried this place on a whim (7/17/23), and very glad I did. Get the Larb Gai "Lao Style" for an extra hit of funky, fish-saucy goodness. I picked a 4 out of 5 for heat level, which was pretty spicy, but still packed a ton of flavor - going to go all the way to 5 next time (but I'm a glutton for punishment). I REALLY wanted to like this restaurant since it's so close to my house but sadly, I'm being generous with three stars. I ordered a large Tom-Kar Soup with chicken and it tasted like a can of coconut milk with chicken and a few vegetables dumped in. It had absolutely NO FLAVOR which was to be expected by the pure white color. Thankfully, I had some Thai Curry paste at home to add when I reheated it. I also ordered the Ginger Salad which was completely missing the cabbage, peanuts and cilantro stated on the menu. Also, the "ginger" dressing was bright orange and had no ginger flavor whatsoever! There was diced fresh ginger in the salad but not what I was craving. For $20 this was a VERY disappointing meal and I definitely won't be going back! read more

Based on food alone this would have been a 5 star review. I was really excited to try Champa Lao for the first time last night. I called and placed an order and the woman who took my order was very friendly (another 5 stars to her taking my order) she even gave recommendations and was helpful. This is when the problem starts. She told me 40 minutes to pick up my to go order. I arrived promptly at the 40 minute mark and was told it would be another 15-20 minutes. They asked I wait in the car and they'd bring it out to me. 30 additional minutes went by!! A total of 70 minutes when they told me on the phone when I placed my order 40 minutes. Is this typical for this restaurant? I have nothing to base it on as it was my first time placing an order. I was extremely disappointed as I had a you g daughter who I needed to get to bed and this pushed it. When they finally brought my food out the friendly woman was apologetic but that almost wasn't enough. I do think they should've comped one of our meals or at least appetizers as we spent a lot of money on two meals, pho, and an appetizer. It wasn't a little late it was A lot late. Or maybe in the future call the customer if running that behind and I would've waited at home with my daughter. Food was very yummy though! Wish I could've given 5 stars. I had to come back and give an updated review of Champa Lao and yes it is another five star one. I never do two reviews but Champa Lao deserves it. One of my friends and I would always order take out from here, but we decided to have a sit down dinner last week. I could not have had a better experience at any other restaurant. As soon as we walked in the owners treated us like family. It was so warm and welcoming. The food was absolutely amazing. I asked for something not on the menu and they were gracious and accommodating. I can't wait to go back. This will now be at the top of my rotation. Thank you Champa Lao! read more

Fresh and authentic Laotian and Thai food. A little tiny place with just a few tables. Clean. Friendly service. Its like dining in the owners home with them. Dont be surprised if the waitress (owner) takes your order and goes in the back and cooks for you too. Neat little place. The iced Thai teas are refreshing in this heat, the seafood fried rice has huge scallops and whole shrimp, calamari and squid and loaded with vegetables. The drunken noodles were full of beef and spicy. The dumplings (shu mai) were hand rolled and the authentic Lao salads "larb" (chicken chopped) and the papaya (spicy) salads are served with sticky rice and fun to eat. If in Manchester and you want something light and different than the norm, give Champa Lao a try. read more

I took out lunch from this place. Restaurant was very small. I went for a kai ka prow and larb gai. I liked kai ka prow more, as it had some good flavors. It was marked as spicy, but I felt it was just moderately spicy. Larb gai was a lao dish. And it was very mild for my taste. Both the dish was made of minced chicken. And there was a lot of chicken. At least one dish i should have gone for a thai curry. read more
