Chance bar?!? I feel like I pulled a community chest card instead when I dined at this place! (See what I did there?!?!) my husband and I have been 3x now, and it's awesome. A location, being a Seattle native, I would be proud to brag about. Although again unassuming the service is straight Midwest. Welcoming, homey, but elevated. As well as the food. Tonight, our 3rd, or wait 5th,, ugh I've lost count the melt in your mouth flavors all blend together. I've been avoiding a review because I don't want this hidden gem to blow up. But just cannot hold this secret gem of Fort Wayne in any longer it would be a disservice to the chef and the world. Please do not let one more night out go by without checking this place out! OMG!! How did I not know about Chance Bar. Best meal I've ever had in Fort Wayne. The tastes were amazing and the food was so very very fresh. Quality all around. We went to Chance Bar for Valentines Day because I'd heard good things. I like thatbI could make a reservation online. We arrived and were seated by the hostess who was wearing a flannel shirt over a hoodie and jeans that were absolutely shredded. All of the staff were very Wery casually dressed. In fairness, Chance Bar says they are casual, but with their prices one would expect the waitstaff to dress professionally. I ordered a glass of the only Sauvignon Blanc they had. It was $13/glass and it was not good. The only beers that were other menu were porters and sours. My husband ordered a sour that looked liked red pop. It tasted a bit like it too. Neither of us could drink it. We ordered a Caesar salad which came in a big metal bowl. The portion was big but the salad just tasted a bit weird. We had the beer bread that was tasty, but it was $7 for two pieces. The hub got the chicken sandwich which sounded amazing. He said it wasn't good. The breading was too dark and when he had me try it I thought the chicken tasted gamey. It came with fried potato chunks that were decent. I ordered the salmon which arrived several minutes after my husband's food. The salmon was delicious and it came with greens that were too vinegary and I think a cauliflower puree that was good. The presentation was pretty unattractive. The service was spotty. The staff spent a lot of time sitting and talking to the couple at the next table. We both were quite disappointed with our $100 dinner. We don't think we'll take a chance again. read more

We heard so much about Chance's it became a must visit. Understand our review based on personal taste, which may not impact others personal taste. One member had the oysters, she gave them raves but her husband tried them giving them an okay stating they didn't seem fresh. Like I said personal taste. Another person had the burger special, good taste but the thick cut bacon was a bit too fatty otherwise good. Two members had the salmon. One didn't care for the heavy charred taste, yet the purée and vegetables were excellent. The other salmon order state the salmon was over cooked but the char was okay, with good veggie. Personal taste overall jaded this review, but isn't that usually the case with many things. read more

My first time at Chance Bar tonight! The food was delicious! I had the spinach salad and the chicken sandwich. Both were yummy. Don't wear white if you plan on having the chicken sandwich...good and messy. The spinach salad was amazing if you are a fan of blue cheese and bacon...which I am! We ate at Chance Bar for our 21st anniversary. I had the mushroom appetizer and the chicken sandwich. My husband had the duck. The atmosphere was intimate and the music was fantastic. Our waitress was outstanding. She was on the ball anticipated our needs before we asked. The mushrooms were fresh, hot and quite tasty. The buttermilk chicken sandwich was crunchy and delicious. Food is amazing. A real treat for a restaurant like this be located in the 07. We ordered: chicken liver mousse for appetizer, then risotto dumplings, fried buttermilk chicken sandwich and the falafel. Chicken liver mousse: topped with jam of some sort and served with hot mustard seed and some pickled veggies. The jam + mustard was a fantastic combo with the liver. Some sweetness and some hotness. Put it on some bread, and even liver-averse folks should give this one a go. Risotto dumplings; served with pork belly and Brussels sprouts, and a few other things. The texture of these dumplings is incredibly smooth. Flavor is mild but the flavor of the pork belly, cranberries and Brussels sprouts is a perfect mixture with the texture of the dumplings. Highly recommend. Chicken sandwich: uhhh get it. It's the standard to which all other fried chicken sandwiches aspire. The bun is also from the bread guy, so that only adds to this package. Sweet, spicy, tangy, extremely crispy. 10/10 Falafel: my wife at the falafel and she said it was delicious and it looked amazing. I trust her! Everyone should go by here. More upscale, amazing. I am hesitant to post this review as I do not want the place to get over ran and make a table hard to come by. But for the sake of great food and an effort to be unselfish in sharing a treasure here we go. Decided to go to Chance for dinner as a group of 3. Oysters ordered as an appetizer by one of us that knows oysters and he was happy with his choice. For the entree two ordered the burger with onion rings and one ordered the chicken sandwich with the side potatoes. The chicken sandwich arrived first followed closely by the burgers. They were all plated like something you see on television. Talk about eating with your eyes first! Spectacular presentation! It was a good thing the food arrived close together because the vultures at my table were picking at the potatoes on my plate. Everything was very tasty and the portions were so much that the wife and I should have split a meal. Looks like our Leftovers are for lunch the next day. While everything was expertly done there were a few comments that the onion rings if not the best they ever had were top two. The service was also very good and timely. Cory came out of the kitchen to see how we liked our food. We had a nice conversation and found his passion for what they were doing evident in his comments and feedback and of course the quality of the food. I've been wanting to try this place for a while. Finally able to get in last night. While it doesn't look like much from the outside (not so fancy) and the place is pretty small when you walk in, this place certainly makes up for all that with the food! We eat at many places that have good food. This place is great. Everything is super flavorful and unique in its own way. Even down to the spinach salad. I mean, it's tough to make a simple thing like a salad taste amazing but they have done it. We had the Buffalo chicken sandwich which was completely fresh, unique and so filled with flavor in every bite. My wife tried the dumplings. Wow. So much good taste in every bite. We were like food critics up in there tasting every ingredient trying to figure out which bite was better. We went late on a Sat night during Savor FW so they were busy but we had reservations so we got right in to the lounge area that has been converted to a dining room. We actually thought the atmosphere was great. Very local cozy feel! Since they were so busy they were out of Brussels so they substituted broccoli which was still very good but looking forward to next trip to try the sprouts. Torn as I want this place to succeed but not get so busy we can't get in since it's so small. Do yourself a favor and venture beyond the norm and give this place a try. I will say it is the most flavorful food I've had in this city. Only thing I wish they had was a full bar selection. They only have beer and wine but again, the food totally makes up for that. read more

This was our second visit and honestly it just gets better! We started with PEI mussels shared as an app...huge portion and devoured every bit! Being Fri the east coast we love our mussels and these were the best we've had in FW! Two of us had the salmon and I had tithe bacon burger. Loved every bite! Hubby and I went to Chance Bar tonight. To say it was unexpected is an understatement. Why? This is NOT bar food, nor is it a bar. We expected loud music, sticky floors, and liquor based drinks. What we found was a fine dining establishment hidden in a not so fancy part of town that only serves wine and beer. This place is a hidden gem that should be booked out months in advance. The deviled eggs were to die for but that was just the beginning. The fried sage on top was a crunchy, delicious surprise. Hubby had the meatloaf which he thought was fantastic. I had the gnocchi, which blew me away. I've had gnocchi in San Diego, LA, San Fran, New York, Chicago, and many other places. No word of a lie, this was the best gnocchi I have ever eaten. Little pillows of magical goodness is what they are. This is not some dive with greasy food. Angie, our server, was a true professional. They should consider rebranding themselves to more accurately describe who they are, although I would have lived a mixed drink with my meal. The fact that we were able to get a same night reservation is shocking and once people discover what this place really is, I doubt we'll be able to. Thanks for the fantastic and unexpected night. We recently visited this restaurant for the first time and we were incredibly disappointed. I understand the shortage of restaurant employees, and am sympathetic to it, but there were so many frustrations.. We were seated for 50 minutes before one bite of food came to our table. We ordered their signature items, the deviled eggs and the gnocchi. The eggs had an odd disappointing flavor, the gnocchi were warm inside but had a cold, yet flavorful, sauce on them. The rib tips were mostly fat and gristle. The temperature in the restaurant was so cold that I was warming my hands over the candle on the table.
