Checked this place out before our appointment at a nearby salon. As you enter, the ambiance is okay. We came on a weekday and was able to check out their lunch specials. The place wasn't as busy at it was late in the afternoon. Though there was only one person working out front, it did impact the service provided. We showed up rather late, and when we walked in, we were the only table seated by the time we left, there were two other parties. They seem to have some to go traffic. A lovely afternoon at Chang's. I'm continuing my hunt of collecting the best restaurants for Panang curry and thanks to Yelp, Chang's popped up on my list. The staff is so sweet, it's literally the best work I can use to describe my dining experience and their hospitality. I like my panang curry typically comes with carrots (which I don't like), and the chef was happy to customize my order (green beans, eggplant, broccoli and peppers). The Thai iced tea was delish! The walls were adorned with cultural art pieces and articles about the chef and restaurant. Changs gives home away from home vibes. A number of regulars visited which is always a good sign. Customer service could definitely use a cheery, welcoming, sincere boost with more check-ins on things we needed. I stopped in with my friend after we found this spot on Yelp. We were looking for something close by that both of us could find something tasty. When we came in, we grabbed a menu to place to-go orders. We were delighted to see the Yelp Check In Offer for a complimentary Thai Tea or Coffee with check in and we both were able to take advantage when we made our separate orders. I ended up ordering the potstickers and Pad Thai. They were great about asking about dietary needs- I ordered tofu as my protein and they made sure to ask if other animal products like eggs were ok and also asked if peanuts were ok in my Pad Thai. That attention to detail doesn't happen all the time! While I didn't need any adjustments I could see someone who does feeling great about the questions. They estimated fifteen minutes for our order so we explored the plaza a little bit before picking everything back up. When we opened our meals it was nice to see they lined the to-go containers with alumnus foil which is another small touch that goes a long way. The food was tasty and we both ended up with leftovers after we had our fill. The Thai tea was the perfect sweetness for us and tasted great. Hubby and I came here for a late lunch yesterday. We ordered the following: 1. Kra-pow medium - flavorful dish, the chicken was well seasoned and great ratio of vegetables, holy basil, to chicken. 2. Drunken noodles with beef: great portion, noodles are cooked al dente, chewy as it should be and overloaded with beef. 4. Iced coffee - creamy and not too sweet. It was the perfect pick me up drink after lunch. Service was good, they are efficient (not rushed) despite just having 1 cook and 1 waiter. Waiter was very friendly and came to check on us 4 times to ensure we are satisfied with our food and to refill our water. Ambiance is cozy. The Host was the nicest lady, and she apologized for the food taking a couple minutes longer (my fault I came in earlier than the pick up time) and I said I was in no rush. Good food takes time, fast food kills. She offered to make me a Thai Tea while I waited. This was the most savory and delicious Thai tea I had ever tried. A smooth balance of salt, savory, and sweet. I knew right then the food was going to be great, and I wasn't disappointed at all! My wife and I ordered chicken pad Thai, her plate was mild spice and my plate was spicy. Holy shh7!!! This restaurant knows spice!!!! I love spicy food and this was one to rave about!! Chang's opened three years ago, and this was my first visit. There are a number of restaurants in the general Natomas area named Chang's ... only two of them are owned by the same family. This Chang's isn't "related" to any of the others, and this one is about the same as the others. Wanting an adult dinner, Thai food seemed to be the perfect take away/dine in movie night meal. We all make mistakes, this was one, or three. Calamari ordered as an appetizer-check. To say that it was mediocre would be a compliment. $11.00 for a small order of nothing more than frozen "rings" barely fried. Unseasoned, underwhelming, and unwanted. The dipping sauce was nothing more than sweet basic vinegar. Yuck. I was looking forward to the Larb. We opted for chicken, and ordered it on the mild side. The picture makes it look like a generous portion, don't be fooled like we were. There was a huge pile of smelly large pieces of onion under the Larb, and definitely an entire whole onions worth. Then cue the unnecessary strips of lettuce. All of this to make the order appear to be more than what it was. After having my first bite, I was done. The onions tainted the chicken, and made the food taste bitter. It was inedible and disappointing. The drunken noodles with chicken was bland, and pretty much a sauceless pile of noodles stuck together. Again, piled on top of strips of lettuce to make the food appear to be more than what it was. The plus was that with a Yelp check in they give you your choice of Thai tea or Thai coffee. We opted for the Thai tea. It was heaven in a cup. It was the best part of the meal. The best part. Would I go back? Ummm...no. Should you? Ummm...no. There are far better Thai restaurants out there. read more
