The burgers we had were very good and the fries crispy. Char grilled flavor was great and we enjoyed the unique ordering system. You fill out an order for and slip it through to the kitchen with you name on it. When your order is ready the call your name and you pay. The fifties style and music was fun. We will be back.

I SO wanted to give this Char-Grill burger a "5" for flavor, but was beyond disappointed in what I received! Pictured is the pitiful burger I was handed. I haven't eaten at a Char-Grill in 30 years. I was engaged to the FOUNDER' of Char-Grill's wife's brother. He would be humiliated at this quality of burger! I ordered extra chili AND coleslaw. Thinking for the price, almost $5 for a burger, I'd get chili and slaw extending to the edge of the bun, even in a THIN layer, and a burger that was substantial, I didn't check it until I had driven off. As the picture shows, there was exactly a measly 1 level TEASPOON of slaw, and perhaps 3/4 of a teaspoon of chili, and a small very thin burger! At first I thought they had given me a "large slider" by accident. I decided to take a picture after one tiny bite. The flavor, WITHOUT of course any chili or slaw on most of the burger was fine. I couldn't assess the chili OR slaw as there wasn't enough. I was so dissapointed and ordered a little more food across the street at Zaxbys. I'd have gone back and returned it but I didn't want to be a Karen.

This place is apart of my childhood and I will forever say that they're one of the BEST, if not the actual best burger joints that I've ever tried. I usually get the Hamburger Steak with coleslaw, cheese, mustard, ketchup, lettuce and tomato. You'd think with all of those ingredients, that it'd be messy but it actually holds up well on the buns that they use. The burgers taste like they are fresh off the grill...because they are. You can literally watch them cook your food after you submit your order through the cute little ticket window. DO NOT forget the Apple turnovers. The decor is like a typical 50s drive in with old music to boot. Once your food is ready, they call your name over the speakers and you pay at the window. Lovely spot from my hometown. Perfect burgers and fries.

I understand what they are going for, with the 50's type theme and all, but I've seen it done better at other places. Hwy 55 comes to mind, in fact. But none of that is particularly important. Keeping it moving... You go in, find a card to fill out your order, and slip it into a slot. When your food is ready, they will call out your name over a loudspeaker. In the meantime, you can wait along the side in assorted seating. Finally, get your food and find a table to eat it on, or leave. As far as I could tell, there is no ordered seating. The tables and chairs are for whoever gets to them first. None of this is obvious from jump street. Didn't wait long at all. I sat and ate my pulled pork sandwich, char grilled burger, fries, apple turnover and vanilla milkshake. I was in a tasting mood and had no intention of eating all of this. And thankfully I didn't. For once my willpower actually showed some guts. The burger tasted fine, but it wasn't nice to look at. It was just a flat, uninteresting thing, but maybe if I'd gotten more toppings, it would've jazzed up. The pulled pork sandwich tasted like it should taste and the fries were pretty good, despite being very salty. The apple turnover looked like something you'd buy at the store and then heat up at home - but it didn't taste that way at all. It was flaky in the right spots and pretty delicious. Milkshakes are stupid. Sure, my taste buds love them, but it's all false advertising. You always get a straw that you won't be able to use because they're so thick. And if they aren't thick, then they're not very good from the start. What a ridiculous path to travel. Thankfully, Char G. knows this, so they give you a long spoon for digging into your drink. And my taste buds loved it. It's an A-OK restaurant that does it's own thing and you just have to figure out its playbook if you don't wanna waste too much time being a lookyloo. Or a gongoozler. Also, there were flies everywhere. That really bugged me. ("bugged" me. get it?)

Go back in time with this hole in the wall burger shop. Place your order yourself and in a blink you're order is up. Yummy milkshakes and perfectly salted fries hit the spot. Personally I love their cheese burgers loaded. Chili is better than most places too. The old diner feel just feels a special place in my childhood. Brings back memories. Place is good for groups too. Smiling faces always.

Unique ordering system where you order on paper, send it down a slot & wait! Only time you have employee interaction is when you pick up your order & pay. Small parking lot & very small inside seating. Reasonable prices. Very tasty! Friendly employees.

This spot is really something. If you enjoy the 1950s kind of vibe then this place is for you. They make the burgers fresh and fast! Everything here is delicious ! Awesome service!

Best hot dogs ever. So glad they have the good old school dogs! Long time favorite, always a great meal after a ball game too!

Normally this place does really good at food and service but not under pressure. Add at lot of people and the assembly line falls apart.

Service could be better, but it's not bad. Decor and the bar were very cool and well designed parts of the restaurant. We ordered the Alabama Slammer and Classic Cheeseburger with truffle fries. We received regular fries at first, but were able to get what we originally ordered (truffle fries) after talking to the servers. If you order the truffle fries, make sure to grab a fork or extra napkins (or both)! Eating them gets real messy. Overall, a nice, casual burger spot in Raleigh with great fries.

Located in the newer section of North Hills, CowBar is a more sophisticated rendition of their Morgan Street Food Hall location. Very similar with maybe a few extras, you order up front, get a number, self-service soft drinks and condiments in the back and wait for you eats. Pick up your meal at the counter and it's time to eat! I did their popular truffle burger with fries Italiano and OMG! The burger was amazingly tender, rich and delicious. Tender grilled beef, smoky Gouda cheese, caramelized onions and truffle flavoring throughout. The skin-on fries with shaved parm, rosemary and garlic made for the perfect side. While the bar is not open yet, it looks like CowBar North Hills will have some beers and drinks to go with your burger. Overall I am super happy with what I experienced at CowBar. While the food is a touch pricey, it's totally worth the money and a better option to dine here, versus a crowded, noisy spot. Enjoy, Raleigh. You may have the best burger in the Triangle with CowBar!
