We went to the Char Pit for a chocolate dipped cone, as we have had and loved before. When we got there, we noticed a sign that advertised soft serve ice cream, but when we went to the counter we were informed that they only have milk shakes and sundaes with regular ice cream, not soft serve. This was a little upsetting, but we still ordered milkshakes and sundaes. We waited for nearly an hour for 6 milkshakes and 1 sundae. When we received our milkshakes, they were very runny throughout, with all mix-ins in a clump at the bottom. One banana milkshake had two entirely intact bananas at the bottom of the cup. Another oreo milkshake had banana from the previous milk shake mixed in, which was quite alarming. Overall, the milkshakes were very small and over $8. We were extremely disappointed in our experience, as we have loved coming here over the years. We really hope the Char Pit brings back their soft serve, and their usual quality! Stopped here after traveling from Carson City and decided to give this establishment a try. It's definitely one of your hole in the wall burger joints with potential. Staff were warm and welcoming and the prices were about average for what you'd pay for a burger and fries these days. The food though? Ehh, I order the mexi burger which came with a single patty, single cheese and a green chile (I added bacon). I also ordered a side of onion rings. I honestly thought the burger had potential but the one thing that disappointed me was how dry the hamburger patty was and it lacked flavor. Not sure when it happened, but they seem to have replaced the patties with a Sysco-based option as it was small, and tasteless, even with a mound of mushrooms and cheese on top. You used to be able to see the pit and the hamburgers as they were getting charbroiled. The burger was a good burger. But it was not the char broiled burger from the past. The price however was exorbitant. $20 for a double burger and fries. That would've been fine if it had the char grill, smoky flavored that I was looking for. Also, the fries were different. They were hard and dehydrated. Not sure if overcooked or just sitting in the heat lamp far too long. I probably only ate five of the fries. It was Friday night at 6 PM. Absolutely terrible. Came in with one person ahead of us. It was 6 of us and we just ordered 5 milk shakes and one sundae. Then we saw a plethora of people come in after us and order full meals. We sat there for an hour just seeing these people get their burgers wondering when our numbers would be called. The staff made ZERO acknowledgment of the wait and were frankly very rude. Finally we got our order and the orders were all messed up. The 5 milk shakes were all Oreo except 1 banana, but the Oreo milk shakes had banana in them and the banana had a full banana not blended in it. The sundae which was smothered in chocolate syrup took them a second to make but there is so much small white unknown specks in it that are slightly crunchy and I am so nauseous from it. A small, unique hole in the wall spot for pretty much anything fried, burgers, and soft serve. The burgers were really good. Whenever we drive by, it's always packed. They have a nice patio with a handful of picnic tables. Inside seating is minimal. Pretty reasonable prices as well! Walked around found this place was open and had outdoor seating so we ate with the dogs despite the chill in the air. While waiting we saw two bears walking across the street ! Wanted to the family rib meal but guy said not available so ordered a full rack of ribs that came with Cole slaw and lots of fries for $34. There were no bones. The fatty parts were juicer and more tender and covered in sweet bbq sauce that had a little bit of heat. We ate it all because afraid to walk back with leftovers since bears might still be around. Was visiting the weekend of April 19th. While down the street playing at the park and beach we worked up an appetite. When we are away from home and in a new place we like to try places that have been around awhile and look it. I think it means they've stood the test of time and are worth a visit. So onward to Char-pit we go. Parking is small. there are tables outside and some inside. The inside of the place is pretty cramped but totally gave a vintage feel. Person who took my order was nice. Wasn't rushing me as I decided what I wanted. We were hungry so we needed these meals to do what they needed to. My husband, daughters boyfriend and granddaughter had burgers and fries. I on the other hand wanted some fish and chips. I also ordered some onion rings for the table. Burgers were grilled to well. Vegetables were vibrant in color and looked fresh. French fries were nice and fresh out the fryer. My fish and chips were "eh". I mean I didn't expect a fresh catch either. Onion rings were well battered and fried crispy. menu looks very promising, but unfortunately, they use a garden burger that has egg in it and so that excludes all the vegans who are fairly strict about their self imposed dietary restriction. The original garden burger was actually vegan so that would be an easy fix. Plus there's stuff like impossible burger, and beyond burger that are freakishly, realistic, analogs of meat. They taste way better than any of the garden burger and cost right around the same if you buy them at Costco or Grocery Outlet in incline village. I sure would be excited for the day when they use that protein instead of stuff with egg in it. On a personal note: i've been vegan since 1999 and vegetarian my entire adult life, but I'm now thinking of becoming what I would term an opportunistic vegan. This would mean I'll eat vegan when available, but if I'm traveling to countries or even townships where that would be a challenge, I can just abandon my lofty virtues temporarily. In other words if there's trace amounts of egg, milk or whey in a product that is otherwise vegan such as the garden burger I probably would still eat it. Went to stay the night in the area on a mini vacay, and this place is amazing! We came in the evening and I couldn't quite figure out the kiosk, so the employee gladly helped me and took my order. We walked in at around 6:45 on a Thursday night, 5 of us, and all the employees just looked at us like we had three heads. My wife made a comment that we hadn't been here before and no one said a word...literally just looked at us. It was so weird. We had two kids with us and three adults. Usually this place is jam packed in the summer especially on a holiday weekend. I stopped in right when they opened so I avoided the worst of the crowds. Get here early! Burger fries and drinks were all we got, just a normal burger lunch before headed for our long drive back home. The prices are Tahoe prices so no surprise here. This used to be a great place that I would recommend to others. Unfortunately the staff seems to have had a turnover, and the customer service is now extremely poor. The employees are unwelcoming and appear inconvenienced to take your order. We did not receive all of the items on our ticket, and even upon showing the receipt I was treated as though I was trying to get a freebie. The food is also not as good as it previously was, pretty basic burger on a cheap bun straight out of the bag. Fine, but nothing to go out of your way for. As a place I once looked forward to visiting every summer, I am very disappointed at the decline in both food and service. Worst service I've had, coming from someone who has worked in food service from 14 years old to 21. I would never act like this to someone... This was my childhood barbecue spot after a day at Kings Beach in elementary school. Fast-forward I'm in college and me and my friend wanted to go on a trip to Tahoe. It's great, I tell her I want to get ribs from here like I did when I was a kid. We come in think about our order for two minutes , and as soon as we're ready, some lady starts ordering. Normally I wouldn't care however because it was such a large order we would've had to wait much longer. Cashier says nothing, but lady looks at me while I am visibly annoyed. Once again, I wouldn't have cared, but she was also being plain rude to the cashier so I didn't feel like putting my best foot forward. We order, cashier seems annoyed that I'm looking for exact change even though it's only three quarters and a nickel how complicated is that? She changes the total on me, I believe maybe she was just correcting the tax? so I had to recount my change. Once again, fine. She was rude about it but I've been there, it's fine. I ordered the fried clams, excited. they call out the order 97 a few times and I come up and ask do you mean 87? they get very snarky with me and said no we clearly said 97. A few minutes later they say no it's actually 87. once again in a rude voice like it was my fault no apology or anything which isn't necessary, but why did they have to be so rude? I look at it and I think this does not look like clams they're large, but I don't know so I take a very small bite and it is fish. I look at my receipt and it says fish basket. I go up to where I got the food and I said I actually had ordered a clam basket. all five workers behind the counter look at me like I had just said some sort of slur at them. okay? usually, I wouldn't say something if my order is wrong, but I really don't like fish sticks. The previous cashier comes up to me and says " I said to check the screen" in which i replied "i was recounting my change and you were watching me. nothing had come up on the screen like it had with my friend because I paid in cash instead of card." in which she rolled her eyes and raised her voice at someone to make the clams. the whole time i heard them talking smack about me, like okay lol is it really that big of a deal. i paid $10 for the clams and $5 for a soda. you made more profit off the soda than the small handful of fried clams they gave. anyways, we never come back here not that the owners care, but maybe the reader will care to not give their business here for staff so rude :/ read more

New owners here and it shows. The guy cooking the food is rude. Asked for trays for my burgers and he told me no even though I was eating outside. Another worker got them for me but he was touching everything with bare hands. The young lady at the register looked lost and overwhelmed despite hardly anyone else being there.
