    Charco Broiler Spinach Salad

Arrived on a Saturday night without reservations (who forgot?) seeking a table of 10! One of the owners was there and immediately took us back to the bar and began setting a table of 10. GREAT response! We were quickly seated and Debbie 'watered' us immediately took drink orders. I had a great NEHIPA from Peculiar Brewing. I ordered the Spinach Salad which was quite tasty altho I would have preferred a warm bacon dressing vs a kinda weak commercial blu cheese dressing ... personal choice. My wife had the Butterflied Shrimp. They ere uninspiring. Seemed to be breaded and 'flattened' and they weren't all that tasty. My son had the Bacon-wrapped Filet which he said wasn't all that tasty. Bottom line: it's the staff that makes this place!

Wanted a steak for lunch so decided to head to Charco Broiler. Had not been in about 12 years. We always had a great family time when eating there. It has not changed. It's familiar cozy, dim-lights , western feel was all still there. We ordered a bacon wrapped filet and a new york strip . There are several sides to choose from. We opted for baked potatoes and a side salad. The salad , as before comes topped with Chex mix instead of croutons. We enjoy that. The food was very good. Steaks tender and cooked to order. The service was great and the server was friendly and cheerful. There are several other steak restaurants to go to that are new and trendy( and good) but It's also nice to go to a place where you know exactly what to expect and is nostalgic. We always enjoy our visits to this place and will look forward to our next visit. There are plenty of new

I started coming here back in college in 1997, and now we come here every year to honor my fathers birthday. It's a rustic steakhouse with an old school bar that my dad, a Midwest cowboy, absolutely loved. I don't eat steak myself, but my family swears by them. I had lobster tails and they were tasty. My favorite thing here is the pie, which I will have every time. I love the peanut butter pie and the banana. I do miss the chocolate cream and wish they'd bring it back. The service is always friendly and fun, and we always have a great time. It brings us back every year.

We ordered a chicken burger and a salad. Also had a fun non-alcoholic drink . It was good. There are several choices of flavor combinations to pick from. Got a pineapple -Ube. Was purple and delicious. The chicken sandwich was good. The chicken was I think a great cut up and had bacon and other goodies on it. We ordered fries with the burger and also had the lightly fried cauliflower as an appetizer. The cauliflower was very good. The place has a decent size bar to sit at and a lot of tables . Good place for a larger group as they have plenty of space to push tables together. The indoor decor and feeling is very relaxed and comfortable. There is also a good size outdoor area with lots of tables and umbrellas. Would be so nice on a warm day. The service was great. Very helpful, attentive servers. Was an enjoyable lunch and would definitely go back.

Once seated, it took a good 15 minutes for our server to come over and she seemed confused by one of our orders. Once we got that straight the drinks came out quickly but it took nearly an hour for the food and in that entire wait we had to request refills. I'm only removing one star because I've had two exceptional experiences. Am really disappointed by tonight's experience. ********* Really good food and really good service. On our last visit we had Derek as our server and he did a great job! The restaurant itself is clean, spacious, and comfortable. As a typical party of 5, I very much appreciate having a table that actually seats 5 and not a table for 4 with a chair pulled up. We will continue to return.

Eh. Over recent years, I've had very hit and miss experiences at the downtown Austin's. Yesterday…read morewas another disappointing miss. We stopped in for a late lunch, arriving around 2. We started with a beer for my husband and a mocktail for me. The mocktail (blueberry lemonade) was simply not worth the $7 price tag. Mostly ice - filled to the literal rim of the glass. So full when I took one of my first sips, ice fell to the floor. There was just a splash of ginger beer; it could've used more but, alas, no room with all that ice! When I mentioned it to the server, she explained that's how they make them. She offered to bring me another, but it seemed clear she meant I'd be paying for it. No thank you. Next, my food. I tried the salmon burger (new to the menu, I'm told) which is actually a salmon croquette on a bun with some lettuce and vinaigrette. It's HUGE and not in a good way. The first few bites were okay, and I thought the heavily breaded effect was due to biting into the edge. As I continued eating, though, most bites felt like a mouthful of bread. I can only hope there was minced salmon in it, but the ratio was so heavy on breadcrumbs that I couldn't detect it. Not the slightest hint of pink on the inside either. I ate about 1/2, my hungry hub finished it. The flaws of the salmon burger didn't seem worth pointing out to the server after the response I got with the drink. Later, as we walked around downtown, I felt like I had a lead sandwich in my stomach. My husband had a better experience than I. His bison burger came out great. No complaints. Unfortunately for me, I think I'll just have to order very specific things when coming here now. Austin's has sentimental value for me - it's the first place we dined after moving here 27 years ago. Because of that, I keep giving them second chances after they fall short. I just wish they'd return to the days of "you can't go wrong", everything is awesome.
