I literally just ate Charki's, drove home, opened the locks to my door, got to my computer, and sat down to write this review. Can't get any fresher than that. And heaven knows that I am FRESH. I've had tons of horrible teriyaki that made me question my life decisions, and I've had some teriyaki to reaffirm the beauty of our presence on Earth. Charki's is in the latter--life is good!! When I waltzed into here after a long day at work, there was absolutely no one there. No one! Even the cashier was gone. It was just some rustling in the kitchen. Eventually, I got someone's attention in the back. I then placed my order--half n' half with chicken and beef teriyaki with sliced avocado for $1.50 more--then dished out my ~$10 and sat down. Roughly 8 minutes--yes, I am precise--passed, and I got my food. Ohhhhhhh boy ohhhh boy. This thing was YUUUUUUUGEEEEE (guess who I am impersonating. Just guess). We're talkin' iceberg lettuce with ranch dressing! We're talking charred-to-perfection chicken oozing with teriyaki! We're talking copious amounts of beef! And to top it all off, that sliced avocado looked like straight up gold in the river in 1849! The beef was a little too saucy for me, but I drenched them suckas in Sriracha and all was forgotten. Been here twice and wouldn't hesitate to come here again. First visit, I ordered the salmon plate. The dish was served with white rice topped with teriyaki sauce and side salad. The teriyaki sauce was just the right amount on the salmon. Second visit, I ordered the Mahi Mahi bowl. They cut up the Mahi Mahi in large chunks and the portion was plentiful. The place is run by a female Asian lady, nice as can be, and a cook. It's clean with simple decor, tables and chairs. Charki's Teriyaki is the best teriyaki I've had ever... I was hungry and yelped "cheap eats" in the neighborhood and Charki's came up as #1 so naturally I had to try it and I am so glad that I did. Charki's is located in a strip mall on the corner of Rosecrans and Van Ness in Gardena with lots of parking. When we walked in we were greated by the man at the register, we got there right before the lunch rush. I ordered the chicken teriyaki bowl with avocado and a drink, my co-worker ordered the beef teriyaki bowl. Both bowls were made to order, super fresh and had an abundant amount of meat. The avocado was $1.50 extra but worth is, it was so ripe and buttery and it complimented the teriyaki bowl. I ate about half of my bowl becasue it was so much, it looked like there were two layers of chicken. The rice was cooked to perfeciton also, not hard or watery. My lunch came out to about $9-$10 but two people could have eaten out of that bowl. I will be bringing my daughter and family here to share the weatlh! read more

Two visits in less than 4 days. I don't do that, too often. I had a conversation with the gentleman behind the counter, the first time I went in. I told him that I'd seen so many different places in that same location. All had some things that were good, but not excellent anything. He said he hopes that he stays longer than the others. I do, too. I ordered a combo chicken and beef teriyaki plate. I was asked whether I wanted salad or steamed veggies. He told me that the steamed veggies were heartier. I also asked for a side salad, since I was kinda hungry and didn't know the size of the plates. I could have just stuck to the plate. I was given a huge container half full of steamed vegetables. (They were steamed to perfection.) The other half had the chicken and beef on a bed of rice. I asked for a hot sauce and teriyaki sauce. I used both and they add good flavor. I never did eat the salad that night. I was stuffed. A few days later, I went back. I opted for just the beef plate. I like that it is the "shaved" kind of beef. It is tender and moist. They only really have salads, bowls and plates on the menu. I saw something about teriyaki wings on the wall. I saw they also have salmon, but I haven't tried it. I would like to see an expansion of the menu to include things like gyoza or something appetizer-like, but if it means losing quality, I'll stick with the smaller menu. read more

Really great place! Very clean, the lady up front was nice and polite, even though she was swapped with orders. I got a combo chicken and beef bowl with avacado. Very solid portions. I'm a big guy, and this filled me up. I normally wouldn't have gotten avacado, but one of the other reviews mentioned it and I thought I would give it a try. Creamy avacado, sweet terriaki and spicy sriracha go great together! Who knew? The chicken had a good char/smokey flavor that I really liked. The beef was solid, and the rice was perfect, sticky like sushi rice. That and a drink (with free refills) for a bit over $10. We got the salmon plate for my dad, the salmon/shrimp plate for my mom, and I had the seafood trio. All of us agreed that it was delicious!!! I was looking by the scallops especially. I really didn't know what to expect with seafood scallops but they were cooked well. All plates came with a side salad that had ranch dressing on it. Simple but tasty. We all cleaned our plates, literally. I ate it so quickly that I forgot to take a picture. I would say for the price it's definitely worth it. Delicious food in a clean environment. I like that the food here is healthy and not overpriced. I ordered the chicken and beef Teri combo plate with brown rice. It comes with a nice sized green salad and I really like the sesame dressing they add to it. I appreciate that the owner removed his tempura options off of the menu. As much as I love tempura I completely respect his desire to serve food that is healthy and light. Speaking of light, while I felt like I had a decent serving of chicken, the beef could have been beefed up (no pun intended). Ordered the chicken and beef veggie plate ($7.51 + tax) with a side of avocado ($1.50 + tax, as suggested by Yelpers - who knew that was a winning combo???) to go as I was in the mood for chicken, but I'll give the beef a try too... I was not disappointed!!! Like others have said, each is made to order and the veggies were a combo of carrots, cabbage and broccoli. Yum. Fresh, tasty and the teri sauce wasn't overly sweet. Just what I was looking for...!!! Good portion sizes and the freshness of the food were impressive... after I submitted my order I heard them cutting up meat in the back... nothing like made to order!!! Since mine was to go, they gave me an extra teriyaki and a side of sriacha too. If I had to change anything, next time I might ask for more green onions and an extra teri sauce, but overall the taste and food quality were EXCELLENT!!! The staff was friendly, attentive and efficient. Charki's would've gotten five stars if they had some menu descriptions of the items, wiped the tables and kept the flies out. (And tell me who Charki is...!!!) Amazing teriyaki chicken, beef, salmon, and shrimp plates. Their sauce is unbelievably balanced the perfect mix of sweet and not too salty. The shrimps and all the meats we're grilled to perfection. Usually when I order teriyaki chicken or shrimp they overcook it so is dry but not here juicy. Everything on the menu so far I haven't found a single menu item that is lacking.
