I was craving some tacos today and wanted to explore Lawndale and all it has to offer. I stumbled upon Mariscos through Yelp and decided that this will be the place that will cure my cravings. I called in to pick up (because, hello, omicron, anyone?) and they said that my order will take about ten minutes. I was soooo excited. The tacos are huge and hearty. The fish grilled to perfection. Everyone knows the best food comes from the hole in the walls. I really liked this hole is the wall mariscos/seafood restaurant. I had the Mexican cane sugar based soda with the shrimp burrito. The Mexican fried rice wasn't the best but the flavor and freshness of the shrimp made up for it. The mariscos/seafood tacos are crunchy and made fresh to order. I love that they top the tacos with big portions of shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes and cotija cheese. Ok, This place deserves a review asap so here I am. Came to this spot to enjoy ceviche and got their fish option and its so far the best I have had in our area. The fish option was really well mixed and it was filled with flavor. I tried their salsa and tostadas as well and they were all amazing. We ordered their langostinos which are grilled and they were cooked to perfection. Lots of flavor and prices were very fair. The location has a good amount of seating and when we came in there were only a few other people there but it did fill out a bit more later on. I will definitely be back at this place soon! Expect authentic traditional plates & attentive servers. My favorite spot for mojarra frita, carne asada & aguachiles. I've been eating here for a couple years and explored most of the menu. These three are in my opinion the best (obviously biased). The vegetables are always fresh, you can tell they're cut daily not days before. The mojarra is fried but the inside is juicy never dry. The asada is sooooo good, cooked perfectly with the best seasoning. I don't even get how you can make asada this good. I appreciate them for substituting rice & beans for more salad. The restaurant is clean the bathrooms are clean and the ambiance is casual. My only issue is the micheladas! They're so disappointing. I don't do sea food... the Ceviche was as good as the 1st time, per my wife. The steak smelled so good. I devoured it when I got home. It had a smokey flavor to it and no fat. Very good portion as well. The rice had very good flavor as well. The beans were not horrendous but could have been a lot better. They were dry like "Rosarita" brand. But I went there for ceviche and carne asada, not beans. Service was to go only, I made sure the two orders were maintaining their physical separation. Came across this place through a coworker. He said this place was good for the area. I decided to check this place out yesterday afternoon ( wednesday night). they open everyday from 9am-9pm apparently. It's a little cozy, clean place to get mexican seafood. Most of their stuff are fried.. You name it from fried bacon wrapped shrimp ( Camarones vela cruz) to fried fish ( Mojara fritta). Raw stuff from Oyster on the half shell to campechana or vuelve la vida. So i decided to have Vuelve la vida. It comes with shrimps, oyster, octopus. Large is $12.99. It comes with cucumber, avocado. And i also ordered the Quesadilla de camarones. Thinking that it would be grilled shrimps. well the quesadilla was good.. but a tad greasy for my taste.. i saw the cheese were all melted and oozing in orange goo.. so i was hard for me to finish.. the portion was good. the hostes were very friendly and welcoming she brought me salsa and chips. And asked me what i wantedto drink while i peruse through the extensive 4 page menu. Dear Mariscos LA Fiesta, I'm sitting here right now in your restaurant wondering why I must give you 2 stars today. I've been here plenty of times and I always leave with a smile on my face, but not today. We walked in and sat by the window as the waitress was mopping the floor and she stopped within a minute or two, came by and dropped off our menus. She came back a few minutes later after checking on the other three tables and asked about our drink order. She immediately brought the water back to our table and that's when the service went straight to H-E Double Hockey Sticks. It took us a while to find a good Marisco restaurant and unfortunately after today's service, we may never come back. I will definitely miss the large cocktails loaded with shrimp, cucumbers, onions, and tomatoes. I also tried the shrimp tostada today and was not impressed. It was a little dry and had no flavor at all. Salt, limes, and Tapatio can only take you so far. Now, back to the service... There were four occupied tables in the restaurant and she checked on everyone in that restaurant but us. I'm not sure if it was a racial thing or she didn't want to be bothered with speaking English (even though the person I was with is Latino and fluent in Spanish). I watched her walk to the right side of the restaurant and check on a family six times while we sat there wanting water. After the family left, two men walked in and she treated them the same as the others. At this point, she has yet to come over to see if we needed anything. She finally makes her way over to our table after serving the men their food and taking the order of another couple. She notices me looking at her and probably my facial expression. She comes to our table and rudely asks if I am done with my plate, I immediately say yes. I politely ask if my friend and I can have some more water before she zips off to the back. At this moment, I'm ready to go. Thank you to Yelp peeps for recommending this Mexican seafood place. I don't have to drive all the way to LA to fulfill my shrimp cocktail craving. I had their Large mixed seafood cocktail $12 and it was delicious! It had lots of shrimp and chunks of octopus, scallop and avocado. The broth could've been more tamatoey and the octopus was a bit tough but it was still pretty good nonetheless. Their chips and salsa were dang good too. Spicy salsa and crispy chips! They have a large menu with lots of photos. So many seafood dishes to choose from. My friend had their huge plate of shrimp enchiladas with a side of rice, beans and veggies and she really liked it. Keep in mind that place is pretty small. And trust me when I say small. There were like 9-10 tables crammed inside lol. I dindn't mind though. The service was okay. The lady didn't speak English so it was a bit difficult to communicate. But it was okay. I just pointed at the photo of what I wanted ^_^. Small place with only 9 tables and definitely packed on a Sunday afternoon. Prompt service, although the server did not speak that much English, the menu had lots of pictures and she was friendly enough. Got the large shrimp cocktail, as pictured on most of the other Yelp posts. Also got the whole fried tilapia which was super delicious. Both came with a generous helping of avocado.
