4 stars for a tasty dive bar/lunch spot... that hit the spot! We were in the area and were looking for a seafood-ish place to eat lunch. It was by recommendation from a local to try Charlie Horse for some seafood deciliousness. They have lunch specials throughout the week, each day and today was a grilled fish burger with fries and soft drink for $7.95, which I thought was a nice deal. I ordered the grilled shrimp with fries ($10.99) and a side of 4 hush puppies ($1). I really wasn't expecting too much since it was kind of dive-bar-like. But I was pleasantly surprised... the shrimp were huge and tasty too! The fries were awesome. However, the hushpuppies needed some help, seemed to be corn based and kind of on the small side, I've had better. My mom enjoyed her sandwich and it was tasty as well. I liked how they gave us the entire bottle of cocktail sauce and tarter sauce to the table. The service was great, no need to ask for a refill, the waiter brought out another right away. I very much enjoyed my meal. I ordered the Grilled Mahi sandwich and it was exceptional. My son ordered the Delmonico steak sandwich, my daughter ordered the cheeseburger (all burgers are 1/2 lb) and my wife order the crab bisque. We all enjoyed our meals. The service was exceptional and the atmosphere was casual. They have an inviting full bar with plenty of TV's. I will be back. Oh, on a side note, I saw them carrying a platter of the crab legs and they looked very good as well. We had the AYCE crab legs at a nearby competitor and were disappointed. We were visiting Daytona Beach and overheard people at our hotel say Charlie Horse was awesome so we went and boy they were right! Like many other places, I ordered medium rare for the sirloin because, well I prefer it but also because many cooks will over cook by one degree or so. Love This Place My family had an awesome experience at this restaurant last night. The food is great. The gumbo is flavorful. The crabs, shrimp and fish are all awesome choices. The Strawberry Daiquiri is the best I have had in Daytona. The wait staff is attentive. For those who enjoy the unlimited crab legs, they keep the food coming without being asked. They start with 1.5 lbs of crab legs and bring 1 lbs of additional each time they notice anyone running low. Everything is definitely worth the price. We will be returning to the restaurant in the future. After the experience here, we all agree that Charlie Horse is far better than Red Lobster. read more

Nice place. I had a ribeye which was decent and my wife had the pound of crab legs. The crab legs for some reason seemed like they had less meat than normal, might have been a little over cooked. Service started very slow, waited over 10 minutes until we finally asked for a waiter. Wife got the mahi tacos, said they were very good. I had the crab bisque, it was ok, not a lot of crab flavor. I asked for the fish dry dinner, the waitress recommended the fried haddock, said it was thicker. I received three rather small, thin, filets. This place was AMAZING!!! I'm so glad we went! We got the cheese fries and the fried jalepenos for appetizers and they were INCREDIBLE!! Everyone loved them!! This place has excellent seafood plates. On vacation with my mom and sister we ate here. They both had the fish and shrimp combo plates and loved them. I had the Cajun shrimp skewers over pasta, and it was excellent. We also got the crab cake balls, but were not so fond of those (I've had much better crab cake appetizers.). I also believe my husband and I ate here on our trip to Daytona, but I believe we only had an appetizer and drinks. The atmosphere was all right. They were really packed, and some of the guests were a bit loud (possibly intoxicated). It was also very warm. Not sure if the AC was on the fritz or because of how crowded it was, but I was extremely glad to get something cold to drink. Went for dinner 3.15.19 and ordered the grilled shrimp Alfredo. Received 8 medium grilled shrimp with pasta that was so over cooked it was mushy. Ate the shrimp and waited 20 minutes before waiter came over, so I could tell him the problem. He asks me if I wanted something else I said no because we had a show to go to. Chased down our check 15 minutes later and was told they "took off for the pasta", which was -$2.50. Seriously.... I was told because I did not ask for replacement food. I explained I would have if our waiter ever came back over. My husband had two shrimp left to eat on his combo plate and we did not have time to start dinner over. This restaurant was recommended by a couple of hotel employees when asked where to find the best sea food. When we arrived there was a line of people waiting to be seated, but the wait was relatively short. Once inside we enjoyed the nice atmosphere and excellent service. We had the crab leg dinner, cheese burger, and fish and chips. The crab legs were prepared perfectly and a nice 1.5 lb portion. The cheese burger and fish and chips were delicious and was a large portion size also. Price for the dinner was also very reasonable.
