Charlie (right) and me (also a Chuck) taking in the day.

Visited Charlie's Neighborhood Cafe yesterday to grab a latte while waiting for a SF City Guide tour to start and I can't say enough nice things about both the man and the cafe's environment. Within 5 minutes I felt like I'd known Charlie forever. He was so kind and welcoming, engaged me and my wife in conversation and had so many wonderful things to say and recommendations to make about the community and surrounding neighborhoods. During the 45 - 50 minutes that I spent there I was introduced to 6-7 friendly regulars and was made to feel very much at home. I will most definitely visit again soon when I'm in the area and wish every town and community around the country had someone as warm-hearted and kind as Charlie!

At the western end of Precita Park, this neighborhood hangout spot has the ideal location - though poor timing has prevented me from becoming more of a regular. That's because I don't live in the 'hood, but the park is near the tail end of an afternoon urban walk I often take from Excelsior. That means the door is often shut by the time I get here since they close at 4PM during the week. I end up walking over to Precita Park Cafe just to get my caffeine fix before they close at 5PM. Sounds like my loss because it looks like they have live music and a bakery pop-up on the weekends. Oh well, I was able to sneak in under the wire on a recent Wednesday and order a satisfying $3.75 medium Cafe au Lait (photo: https://bit.ly/3xCL00U) and threw in a $1 Chocolate Chunk Cookie (photo: https://bit.ly/3naQMlD). It was a tad stale but who am I to complain at that hour? They offer sandwiches, salads, and breakfast bagels if you come at a more reasonable hour. Someday I'll manage to do that. COFFEE - 4 stars...a smooth brew AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...a bit sparse when I was here SERVICE - 4 stars...friendly and efficient TOTAL - 4 stars...all the fun stuff happens on the weekends, otherwise it's pretty chill RELATED - Exploring Bernal Heights? Charlie's cafe is a great neighborhood coffee shop with plenty of items. The large white chocolate mocha was a great value and stayed hot for a long time. The bacon egg and American cheese on everything bagel was super tasty and just what I needed. No online ordering but you can call ahead.

Just moved to mission and find this neighborhood cafe that feels really cozy away from all the chaos on 24th, owner is super friendly and the lighting is great with a nice view of precita park.

Charlie's cafe is more than just yet another deli. On Friday evenings, it transforms into a neighborhood hub hosting events varying from a cozy concert to an art gallery to social activism events. Charlie himself is a lovely guy whose main concern is to make everyone comfortable and feel welcomed. Good food and coffee is an added plus!

The best place to get your breakfast bagel , fresh brewed coffee and enjoy local culture of Bernal Heights. "Charlie's Cafe" located in the heart of Bernal district with 5 min walking distance to Bernal hill where you can observe panoramic views of the city , close to Precita Park where you can enjoy great weather and your coffee from Charlie's. Bacon, Egg & Cheese bagel is a Must try! Fresh fried eggs and delicious smoked bacon will give you a good start of the day. LOX Bagel is delicious as well - good portion of salmon, cream cheese and you can add extra veggies for your health gut :) Best experience! Highly recommend!

Bad bagels, really expensive. Seems like they were made a few days ago and bagged up. I don't get what all the fuss is about.

In researching places near where we were staying, we learned about the Italian deli and shop. We were looking forward to stopping by to check out the store and grab lunch. The store itself is very cute and charming, full of so many items - fresh meats and cheeses, imported olive oils, pastas, desserts, wine, and liquor to name a few. There is an area where you can get coffee drinks and there is a deli area for ordering sandwiches, pizzas, specialty dishes, and salads. The variety of options is plentiful. I ordered an iced coffee beverage, which was great. My significant other and I ordered a sandwich to go, which we were splitting for a light lunch back at the hotel. The person helping at the counter was not very friendly or helpful with questions. We asked for our sandwich to be made on the Dutch Crunch bread, as we were looking forward to trying it. Unfortunately, when we got back to the hotel, it turned out that the sandwich was made on a regular ciabatta roll, which was not fresh. Additionally, the sandwich was mostly mixed greens. For the price, I expected more meat. With so many great food options in San Francisco, it is likely we won't stop by on future visits to the City.

Three people working a tight space with three toaster ovens, and everything comes toasted by default. Their DNA is from pizza making, and it shows. The menu has around 40 sandwiches, so I asked the guy behind the counter for his two favorites and started there. The Godfather: Genoa and pepper salami, oven gold turkey, provolone, and garlic spread on Dutch crunch. Great texture, warm from the toaster, and the garlic spread ties it together. A San Francisco classic done right. The San Franpsycho: it normally comes with honey turkey, but they had rotisserie chicken on the spit so I swapped it in. Gouda, bacon, pesto, garlic spread, and remoulade. The pesto comes through right away and the chicken tastes like real rotisserie. Fair warning: it is messy. It drips. Do not eat this in the car. I could not find a clean way to eat it and ended up taking half home to finish. In their defense, I went rogue with the chicken order so that might have messed up the flow.
