Our last day in Boston for the week and we were looking for a small breakfast place in the north end. The reviews were good for Mangia and we walked about 5 blocks in the rain to get here. It's a quaint little neighborhood cafe and perfect for us. Even though it was not quite 10 am I asked the owner if I could order the meatball sub. He was very gracious and said yes. He told me it would be 10 extra minutes since he had to bake the bread. My wife orders the breakfast sandwich on a bagel. Glad I walked in the rain here. That meatball sub was really good. Crispy fresh bread and giants meatballs. Only wish I lived closer. My wife loved her bagel sandwich as well. read more

My husband and I just arrived to town and stopped in here for a quick breakfast. The owner was busy cooking but gave us time to figure out what we wanted. I saw tater tots come out and I was hooked! When we were done we told him we were visiting from out of town and asked where to get the best cannolis. He gave us two places and we tried them both. He was able to sit our group on short notice. There's not a lot of space in there but enough for our group of 15. He works efficiently and effectively and efficiently to get all of our orders and make them. All of our food was absolutely delicious! I finally made it to Mangia x2 after having it on my list for a few months. I opted for the classic chicken Parm and walked out a happy man. The sandwich had a few less bells and whistles than the others I'd tried around the neighborhood but the flavor was just right. The marinara at Mangia Mangia is really well balanced and has just the right amount of tang. Another advantage is that this spot is a bit off the beaten path and you won't have to deal with large groups of tourists. A bunch of North End locals have described this place as being the best burger in the neighborhood. I decided to order the burger today and it was pretty good. It was a thin patty cooked the way I requested with cheese, lettuce, and tomato on it. It reminded me of a better tasting fast food burger. I would come back again if I wanted a quick and cheap burger (around $5) however I would imagine most food lovers or foodies are looking for a more seasoned/complex burger. If you're looking for something cheap, quick, and simple this will definitely satisfy. However I still stand by Neptune Oyster as having the best burger in the North End. In general this is a cute little neighborhood place with fair prices and convenient to many living in the north end. It kind of reminds me of diner food. The price is great and the quality is good. It's pretty hard to screw up a lot of the things on the menu but for the price the quality is much better than one could expect. Myself, I favor the chicken salad sandwich on toasted wheat and with a coke its under $5 which is a deal in Boston. Aside from the price and the quality the clientele and the service is a riot. Having lived in the North End for a couple of years I have to say that it is spot on for the people in the area. You have hefty boisterous guys working the counter, old ladies who speak only Italian walking in, loud middle aged Italian men who sit in there for much longer than they need to. Young "hip Italian-Americans" and then your common, everyday business man who looks like a fish out of water. Worth at least one visit to get the neighborhood feel. read more

When I worked at Regina's I went here every day. It's the North End's best greasy spoon. When I go in and order their Chicken Escarole Soup (THE BEST) I always take delight in hearing the guy at the counter shout "Ma, soup to go!" Where is older parents are working in the back kitchen. They cook to order, which is awesome. If I want a runny egg, thats what I get. When you order chicken salad, they make it fresh right in front of you. This place is also SO cheap! You aren't going to find food for this price any place else. It's excellent. The only gripe is they aren't open on weekends and past four, but maybe that's a good thing because I'd be ordering tater tots well done for dinner every night. read more
