I just imagined the typical Thai staples everyone knows and loves. Nothing new, right? I couldn't have been more wrong. ​Our experience started on a high note before we even sat down. When we arrived, my friend realized he had accidentally booked our table for the next day. Luckily, the server was incredibly accommodating and managed to get us seated within just five minutes. Looking around the room out of pure curiosity, we couldn't help but notice that almost every table had a stunning rattan basket overflowing with appetizers. It looked amazing, and we knew we had to order it. Was it as good as it looked? Absolutely! The Assorted Appetizer basket came loaded with veggie spring rolls, crispy pork toast, shrimp wraps, and crispy pork cakes. Every single item brought a unique texture and flavour to the table, making the whole dining experience incredibly fun and enjoyable. For the main course, my friend ordered the Tiger Prawn Pad See Ew and the Crispy Grilled Pork. The Pad See Ew was just as delicious and comforting as you'd expect from a great Thai spot, but the Crispy Grilled Pork was the absolute star of the show. It was so incredibly crispy on the outside that you could actually hear a loud crunch with every single bite. Somehow, it managed to be shockingly crispy without being greasy or oily at all. It takes real culinary skill to elevate such familiar staples into something unforgettable. ​If you want to explore Thai cuisine that steps outside the box, Zab Bite is definitely the place to be.

The veggie spring roll was decent, similar to any other much lower end places. The papaya salad didn't have much flavor except quite fishy. We ordered mild thinking this was based on authentic Thai spice scale but nope, the whole plate had no spicyness at all until one bite where all the chilli were at the bottom of the plate. The boat noodle was an absolute disappointment. Taste like a regular house special pho with less flavor in the broth. The crispy grilled pork was better, it was indeed crispy but we could not taste the char. Portion for most items were quite small as well. Service 5/5 Ambiance 5/5 Food 2/5 Price and Portion 1/5 Since food is the main criteria for a good restaurant imo, this place only gets a 2 star for me. It's a beautiful dance of flavors and textures, balancing sweetness, acidity, freshness, and crunch perfectly. The Hokkaido Scallop Cupcakes were visually stunning. The scallop isn't the dominant flavor, but the bite is elegant, balanced, and very enjoyable. The Hot & Sour Halibut Soup was outstanding. The spice combination was layered without being overpowering, and it came with a generous amount of perfectly cooked halibut. Ironically, the mistaken Tom Kha Coconut Mushroom Soup was also delicious and would make an excellent vegetarian option. The Squid was well prepared, but compared to everything else, its flavor profile felt a bit flat. Since we couldn't finish everything, that's probably the one dish I would skip on my next visit. The Lingcod was another highlight. I highly recommend enjoying it with a side of rice to soak up every bit of the sauce. For wine lovers, nearly everything we ordered paired beautifully with the Terralavista Vineyards Riesling from Okanagan Falls, BC. Finally, don't overlook the cocktail list - I tried the Chai Thai Negroni, which was excellent, and after seeing the creativity behind the rest of the menu, I'd happily come back just to explore more of their cocktails.
