We went here to celebrate my son's and DIL's birthdays and we were all glad we did. My son made a great choice. He enjoyed the prime rib once again, I loved the shrimp linguini, my husband enjoyed his crab stuffed sole, and my DIL loved her seafood bouillabaisse. Our appetizers were tasty, too - hummus and the crispy, spicy tuna. The atmosphere is very relaxing and located at a great spot along the water. Such a nice touch - the added birthday boy's name on the menu. Too cute! In the area? Check Them Out! PS The Sangria was tasty and the beer was nice and cold. The bread basket made everyone happy, too! LoL
Christmas dinner was good. Unfortunately I wasn't hungry so I didn't get at it like I wanted to but what I had was better than I thought it would be when I saw it. I honestly forgot what I ordered when it came out and I was confused as to what it was when I saw them bringing it until they told me what it was. Once I tasted it, I was completely surprised by the taste and that I enjoyed it so much. That's a slice of tomato that they put the crab cake on. That tomato was cooked to add the right amount of flavor to the crabcake when eaten together although I ate half together and half separately because it was so good that I wanted both experiences. I should've started with the drink because it came first and it was the feature of my night but they say you should save the best for last. If you like chocolate and bourbon or any type of whiskey, you will likely love this drink. You can taste the chocolate in the drink but it isn't overpowering and it doesn't make the drink too sweet. Next time I will see if they can smoke it. I did say next time because I do have to come back and try a meal since I only had an app however, I will say that this app was in the shareable section and I just can't see how you share one crabcake. It was good but it wasn't large enough to share, especially since it was good. It was good enough to share but only large enough for one (of me).
It's been 6 years since we dined at Chart House. We had a late lunch Saturday, March 14, 2026 & to our surprise the quality freshness of both the seafood & steak was outstanding‼. Definitely recommend Chart House. I intentionally gave 4 stars bc when we entered there was no line yet the 3 employees behind the host area desk were busy having a conversation & didn't stop until my husband asked if we could have a table for two. Also there was a male young Caucasian server that didn't speak in a mild voice, rather more like a blow horn that waited on a table next to us (thankfully our server was not like that).
We had a reservation for 2:15 on a Friday and were seated right away but it wasn't very busy. We got the ceviche and the beet chips were awesome with it. Light, crisp with a good flavor that paired well with it. I do wish there was more quantity with this dish. My entree was salmon. It was really good and the orzo was flavorful. We had a nice water view at our table by the window. Our server was Bob and he was great.
I haven't been to Chart House in years until just a few days ago for lunch. The restaurant ambiance was calm and inviting. Our server, Elle, was friendly and accommodating. I ordered the shrimp tacos which were good, but could have used a little more shrimp and possibly a salsa. The sweet potato fries were freshly cut and fried to perfection with a hint of salt. I would order my meal again. Others I had lunch with indicated their meals were good as well, especially the crab cake sandwich, clam chowder and fish and chips. The weather was nice so there was a great view to enjoy and socialize by. If you're in Olde Town check them out.
This place has a wonderful selection of seafood and a nice view of the harbor. I had the black miso cod and the fish & veggies tasted very fresh. Also enjoyed the sauce that was given to pour over it. The one thing it could have used was a touch of course salt for finishing. Our server Cameron was super friendly and personable. The restaurant has a very classic look akin to fine dining waterfront restaurants. Very enjoyable experience.
It is my birthday and we made our reservation a month in advance because it is Valentine's Day as well. Got here 10 minutes before the time and check in and there was a wait. The restaurant is old and in need of an upgrade. There was no ambience. The salmon was just ok, the table next to us returned her meal twice. I gave my waiter my knife because it was dirty and he never brought a clean one back. I had to asked the server who delivered the salmon for a knife. This was a first and last visit for me. Nothing to write home about.
While in the area for my friend's son's graduation from the Naval Academy over Memorial Weekend, we met up with one of my cousins in the area for brunch/lunch after we went to Arlington Cemetery. The weather was beautiful. They didn't have outside seating available but were able to fairly quickly seat us inside with a window view of the water. We enjoyed the food and the view. Service was quick and helpful. There were many good choices on the menu and I'm glad we tried the crab items in addition to shrimp & grits and chicken & waffles.
I went here for brunch today. The menu selections are uninspired and much too expensive. The restaurant and the location are both gorgeous. And the service from Caleb was exceptional. He was very kind and attentive and professional and helpful and patient. He did an outstanding job. But the food was terrible. This prime rib hash dish seemed like it was made up of leftover items that were in the kitchen this morning. And it cost 27 dollars!! It was made of the same type of meat that is used in cheesesteaks. But less meat. They should be ashamed of themselves. And the cheddar waffles were dry and flavorless and not good at all. The only item that was passable was the calamari. But that was cold. The flavor was great and the sauce in the top was good. But it was cold. They need to do better.
I am incredibly shocked to see this place only has 3.5 stars. I did not check Yelp before coming here, which I usually do, and I usually only pick restaurants with 4+ stars due to experience. I am glad this was a fluke because this places deserves FIVE STARS. Everything was fabulous. Our waitress Caroline was very sweet, attentive, and helpful. We brought our small kid and he got a birthday Sunday at the end with a candle. The hostess was wonderful and allowed us to sit at a table next to the window over the water. The inside was very elegant with a low ambiance. Low lights and clothed tables. The bar was fabulous and had amazing cocktail options. The menu, in my opinion, was not overpriced. The prices were fair for seafood and the experience and worth every dime. They had a great selection for the kids menu. We ordered the Mac and cheese with the broccolini, which was a nice size! I ordered the shellfish dish with scallops, shrimp, and mussels. It typically comes as a boil with bread, but our waitress recommended adding pasta, which was a fantastic choice! The sauce was amazing and light. It was very light but flavorful. The seafood was cooked excellent. You also get starter bread, which was delicious. The crackers and pumpernickel bread were a fan favorite. The butter was fluffy and the bread added perfectly to my dish. I also ordered a small side of the asparagus, which came with a decent portion and was cooked with melted butter and bread crumbs. My boyfriend had the meal with a clam chowder (could choose salad), the prime rib with mashed potatoes, and a lava cake. The clam chowder was excellent. Not fishy and very creamy. All the potatoes, veggies, and clam were small sizes not large chunks. It was amazing. The lava cake was PHENOMENAL. By far one of my favorite desserts. I would order this as a stand alone it was so good. It was perfectly molten with chocolate sauce and nuts on top. It had a crust with a gooey inside. Truly a fantastic experience and would come back!
This place was great! Service was okay, but I get it they were busy, so I didn't take any stars off. Food was on point! Like usual. Noise level was a bit loud but not to the point where you couldn't have a conversation with your meal guest. Overall will come back and I recommend you come too!

This is a nice restaurant by the Waterfront of Old Town Alexandria. From the outside, it looks like a little lighthouse restaurant. My friends and I had lunch here on a Saturday and found the ambiance really nice and the food really good. They welcome walk in but highly encouraged reservation. We did not have a reservation but we were able to go in, they sat us at the bar since there are no available tables. It was still fun. We ordered drinks, mostly non alcoholic. Then we grabbed lunch. I ordered "The Lunchbox" which came with a choice of soup and an entree for $17. Good deal! Got clam chowder soup and fried cod sandwich. Taste good and it came in a big portion. My friends ended up getting a diner burger and fish&chips and they said they all tasted good. The staff are nice, accommodating and polite! Our server made sure we got all we need. They also have a nice bathroom. We didn't get to enjoy the view of the water while eating because we didnt get a table by the window but if you plan on dining there, make sure to put in your reservation and specify you'd want a table by the window. read more

I had dinner at the Chart House during Valentines Day weekend. We got the pre fixe dinner for two. I had the lobster bisque as my appetizer. It was flavorful and savory. My date had the strawberry champagne salad. This was equally delicious. It has sliced strawberries, candied pecans, and a champagne vinaigrette. As our entrees we selected the sea bass topped with a butter crab sauce. Fingerling potatoes and grilled asparagus were the sides. For dessert we shard the chocolate lava cake topped with a scoop of ice cream, chocolate syrup and bits of toffee. This was divine. I am looking forward to returning. The location is convenient to a couple of parking garages. read more

Restaurants on the water front? Yes! We didn't dine outside since it was about to rain but we still enjoyed our team lunch. The seafood cobb salad is filling and has all the favorite ingredients laid out in a meticulous manner. Almost didn't want to dive in since it looked beautiful but you gotta eat right? Paired it with a barrel-aged red blend wine which was heavenly. Other team members started with chowders and then ordered French dips. They devoured their soups and sands with satisfaction. One of them ordered the crab club sand and had no complaints. We found this place to be pricey due to location and decor so we'll likely eat here again when the company decides to cater or have a company event here. It is a solid place if you're visiting the area or want to go for date night. Try to dine outside if it's nice. Just don't fall in if you've had one too many! read more

Great place. Food was great and drinks were mid. I didn't really get a buzz and had two cocktails. The ambiance is to tier. Food came out slow but that was the only take away. Polite staff. The restaurant is easy to find. There is a parking garage across the street and street parking available. The restaurant has a nice view of the water and at night depending on your seating you have a view of the National Harbor lite up. The food and drinks were good. The Port of Manhattan was strong. The shrimp, avocado and mango stack was tasty. It just needed some extra seasoning. The Paneed Chicken was flavorful with a side of mushrooms. FYI the mushrooms are cooked in a beef gravy. The Baked Stuffed Shrimp needed some seasoning as well but over all was a decent meal. read more

Had eaten at the Chart House many years ago as it was one of the best places for brunch and the scenic view from the restaurant was one to remember. Came for brunch and surprisingly was seated quickly after I arrived with my family and guests. A good selection of seafood entrees with selections with Beef as well. Went with the Seared Ahi Tuna while my family and guests went with seafood salad, scallops and fish selections. Food was good but not what I had in the past and sadly not for the (high) price I paid. Wait staff was good but seemed to be non-existent after a large party was seated next to us - place really wasn't busy. Had to repeatedly ask for refills and when our orders would be arriving. For water we eventually just served ourselves and got a water pitcher from the waiter station (too long to wait for water refills). Good place to eat. Hopefully wait staff is better than our service for party of four. read more
My service was horrible. The waiter checked on my two during my two house stay here. I had to say excuse me in order for her to help e. It's ridiculous. I've been here lots of times but this is my first horrible experience. It wasn't busy at all. And not to mention I had to wait about 20 mins before the waiter actually came to help me. My extended family is in Alexandria, VA celebrating my brother-in-law's life this weekend. We immensely enjoyed the Chart House. The wait staff was excellent, the bread before our meal was yummy, and dinner was delicious. I had the King Salmon grilled with the mango pineapple salsa, it was great. The mango pineapple salsa was the perfect topper. Our entire party of 9 enjoyed the entire experience. I've been to Chart House several times throughout the years and each time I think, hmm, that was just OK. This past Saturday, when I took my mom there for lunch during restaurant week, I had the same impression. We both started with the Caesar salad which was completely average, from the lettuce to the dressing. I did like that there was a decent amount of parm shavings. Next up were the shrimp tacos which were nice and crunchy and had some heat from the sauce. My fave course was the dessert course - salted caramel creme brûlée. TBH, I'd come back for this alone. I have to make note that our server, Mark, was awesome - super friendly, helpful, and quickly moved us to a table near the window when we requested it, once we saw a couple leave. So, we had mom and daughter time with a great view, spacious dining room, and fab service. It was good enough, but the food just doesn't seem to be the primary concern here. read more

We came here for brunch on a Saturday for 2 reasons. First, we had a gift card and second, their brunch menu looked delicious. When we arrived, unfortunately, we found out that brunch was only served on Sundays. First we ordered drinks; Bloody Marys. They were delicious, perfectly spiced. I would say drinks are this restaurant's forte. We also ordered crab dip to start, which was good. The dip came with crostini. Personally, I would prefer a softer bread as the crostini tasted a bit too buttery. I ordered a crab cake sandwich, and my wife ordered fish tacos. We both ordered a side of sweet potato fries with the sriracha aioli. As far as crab cake sandwiches go, the sandwich was ok. The fish tacos were great, as well as the sweet potato fries. Our server was very well-mannered and respectable. He actually asked us if we wanted a dessert before we had our food. At the time, we were very hungry and the dessert sounded good, but we were very full after brunch and asked if we could cancel the dessert. He obliged. We would definitely come here again for drinks. Elegant seafood restaurant in the heart of the tourist area of Old Town Alexandria, there since the '60's. Great service, comfortable and civilized. We went for the special Happy Hour appetizers. And they were all good, a couple of them, excellent. Lobster ceviche: fresh lobster meat (cooked) tossed in a very light vinaigrette served with toast rounds. Quite good; New Englanders accustomed to lobster would enjoy and then yawn. Braised beef lettuce wraps: Sweet stewed beef, very tender and tasty. Iceberg lettuce was off putting. Should use Boston Bib or red lettuce. Fish Tacos: some of the best fish tacos anywhere, filled to the brim, topped with a perfect avocado wedge. Fried deviled eggs: egg whites deep fried in a light batter/crumbs, filled with yolk cream. Great execution, beautiful presentation, lacking in taste. No identifiable flavor other than creamy (mayo) and yolks. Maybe better with a curry infused filling? All together with a soft drink & mojito = $45 with gratuity. A very pleasant experience for an early evening outing. Worth a visit. Dinner menu is extensive. read more

We got the pleasure of dining at Chart House thanks to our amazing realtor, Faith. She had already picked it out and I was thrilled to finally try it! The place is just gorgeous. It looks like a little lighthouse and it's inches from the water. We got a beautiful panoramic view of the river and the National Harbor. I need to start with the most important, our server, Sam. He was the best server I have ever had to date. He was so kind, so quick, and knowledgeable like a head chef would be. I was just blown away. We took all of his suggestions and that truly made our experience special. Cocktails: I got the double berry mule and it was perfect. It had so much berry flavor too it and I loved it. Very refreshing and also light. Appetizers: The Kim Chee Calamari was Bomb. There was a TON of it. They batter was very light and they were perfectly crispy. There were even vegetables tossed in the mix that came out so well. My personal favorite was the zucchini. We also got the crab dip. It was nice and fresh, had a slight kick to it, and came with delicious baguette. All was amazing. Entrees: The lobster and shrimp carbonara was outstanding. It was so rich and creamy. I couldn't finish more than half of it! Can't wait to eat the rest tomorrow. The kings crab legs though were AWESOME. It seemed like that crab must have walked in right as we sat down it was so fresh. Just astounding entrees. Dessert: The Hot Chocolate Lava cake was really a work of art. It takes them 30 minutes to make it because it's slow backed and has a rich chocolate center that has to melt perfectly. Then it's finished with ice cream, chocolate liquor, and health bar. Chart House is easily one of the finest dining areas in Old Town Alexandria. Due to COVID-19, theres limited indoor seating so reservations are a MUST for weekend dining. I recommend putting in a reservation at least two days in advance for prime time hours. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the hostess. We requested a table by the windows because of the great view of the Potomac. We were lucky because a table upstairs opened up and they were in the process of cleaning it. Lemme tell you, the table we got was probably their number one table, upstairs on the second floor, centered looking out the window to the water. We were seated about five minutes upon arriving and greeted by our server, Andres, another five minutes later. Note that Chart House gives delicious, warm, complimentary bread. I decided to go all out and order the 14 oz New York steak and add on the Twin Tails (two lobster tails). It was easily one of the beat meals I've had in NoVa. I highly recommend anyone looking for a classy experience and a perfect date atmosphere to go here. Perfect for business casual date attire with light pop music in the background. I went to Chart House with a couple of friends! I always love dining in downtown Alexanderia because its a very cozy and scenic area, perfect for any occassion. I ordered the "Chart Your Course" for $43. Course 1: Cream of Crab Soup Course 2: 10oz Prime Rib Course 3: Mini Lava Cake. I didn't care for the Prime Rib because it was extremely fatty and very hard for me to enjoy because I spent a lot of time cutting the fat off, blah. However, the soup and dessert were amazing, I left very full. Considering, that we're in a pandemic, I appreciated the fact that the restaurant wasn't crowded and tables were more than six feet apart so I felt very comfortable. read more

Haven't been here in years and it'll probably be years before I come again. Ordered the prefix. House salad and 10 oz. prime rib. House salad was trash. Prime rib was dry and it's hard to have dry prime rib. It's like everything has been sitting in the kitchen all day. Appetizer was also not hot. SMDH. Went for the oysters. What a mistake. Seems like they washed them or soaked them in chlorine water. The waitress did offer to replace them, but I'm not sure the replacements would have been any better. Overstaffed and underserved visit. Plenty of better options very close by. read more

A friend and I were wandering around Old Town on a hot day looking for a cool spot to have a drink and grab a bite. We ended up at Chart House because the exterior looked inviting and they had a very large outdoor space covered by a tent right on the water. We were fortunate that we did not have to wait at all to be seated. The restaurant was very clean, everyone was wearing masks properly, and the tables were properly social-distanced. We felt very safe there! Our waiter, Andres, was very prompt with attention and taking our drink orders and making recommendations. I am going to go out on a limb here and say that Andres may just be the best server I have ever had...anywhere! He was engaging and attentive and made our visit to Chart House even better. We each had wine and we shared the Coconut Shrimp appetizer, which came with three sauces: Chili, Coconut Creme, and Soy-Ginger. I think the soy-ginger was my favorite. The shrimp were prepared perfectly and I would recommend this appetizer. We then each had he Shrimp Crab Mango Avocado Stack. You can see from the photo that this is a beautiful dish! But what you can't see is the flavor! The FLAVOR! Those flavors all meld together so well. It is served with Taro Chips, which I must say are just perfect for this dish! I had the Mohua Sauvignon Blanc, which complimented the dish just perfectly. We were so happy to be able to relax and enjoy our meals and beverages with a beautiful view of the river.
